So after bravely battling viruses for a few days and having to reset my computer in the process, I lost my save data etc. Not sure if I feel like working my way back up with the 'exact' team as before, so how about some starter suggestions? (Inb4 no)

For the record, i've already used: Emboar/Torterra.

You should use Chespin or Piplup.

nah not piplup. you can get another one later on in the game easily.

Personally, I'd start with Charmander. Reason being because Charmander/Charmeleon learns dragon rage at level 16, which makes for unbelievably easy sweeps of the first couple gyms, which I found to be some of the hardest parts in the game.

Cyndaquil becomes pretty amazing later on in the game. It's a slightly above average Fire Type early on, but once it gets Eruption via move tutor I'd say it becomes one of the best Fire Types in the game. (It's really fast, and hits ridiculously hard) Eruption demolishes a lot of the field effects, even turning a few of them into the burning field. (Making battles like Noel and Blake into cake walks) It's also quite useful for the Gym leaders that are double battles. I'd honestly say Typhlosion is the fire starter best at taking advantage of the field effects.

Quite true, but should you do that you miss out on some of the battles that Typhlosion is especially useful in, such as Noel and Radomus.

EDIT: By miss out on, I don't mean you miss the battles, I just mean you don't have Typhlosion in some of the battles where it's at it's most useful.

Don't forget Protean Froakie. That's a lot of fun to play around with, especially in the late game once you get extrasensory.

I find Torchic to be the most useful starter (Speed Boost) the game is not really that hard if you build your team around that. Prottean Froakie is very good too (with Dark Pulse, Extrasensory, Hydro Pump and...Grass Knot(?)

I think you shouldn't pick Cyndaquill, Bulbasaur, Tepic, Mudkip because you can get them later in the game (We'll have Piplup soon too)

Piplup is already catchable in the story. You can get it by trading a man so want "rare candy" in 7th street.

Chimchar is the best. Iron fist ability and mach punch = falcon yes.

I actually feel like playing through Reborn again. Sounds pretty fun starting over and changing your strat/team.
I'm pretty sure all the starters are gonna be obtainable sooner or later but... I heard u liek mudkipz

Thanks for the suggestions, though I ended up going with chimchar (Since basically the highest suggested ones were Apes/Frogs w/ 3 each.) So thanks again.
