Pokemon Academy Ch. 3: Queued-Up Battles

{Jacob vs. Slade}

"He's revealed himself! Freeze the vines, then use Body Slam!" Jacob countered. The Lapras's naturally cold skin and her Freeze Dry attack stopped the vines about halfway to the ice, preventing the Pokemon from taking damage other than from the initial contact with the vines. She then reared up, causing the thin icicles around her neck to break. As Sasuke missed her neck with his Cut attack, he ended up underneath the Lapras's stomach. She slammed down, hopefully using her superior size to trap or cause serious damage to the Frogadier.

{Ryan and Raiza}

Ryan had discussed with Glacien between rounds how imperative it was that he dodge these attacks, especially when they're green, as they're probably grass moves. Glacien knew this well and rolled to the side, the Energy Ball barely scraping him. The Spheal cringed at first, but then shook off the pain and waited for his orders. "Get defensive." Ryan had started to use different phrases to represent moves so his opponents would have a harder time predicting. Glacien swelled in size as the stockpile boosted his defenses.

[Zephyrus the Priestess]

From behind the cover and safety of some fake trees, the Ghost-Fire type concentrated. Assuming from how the blue ball of blubber didn't try to seek and strike him, the Spheal was probably preparing for something absolutely horrendous. "Lucifer, F-Bomb!" called Raiza. Ah, that just might do it. If a regular Confuse Ray wasn't good enough to nail his prey, then this just might catch him off-guard. The thought helped fuel the flame on his head as it burned brighter and seemed to swell, shining with an odd light. Hovering to and appearing in a clearing between some trees suddenly, Lucifer flung the attack straight at Glacien; even if the center of the Flame Burst-Confuse Ray combination missed, surely the scattering embers and lights would throw the Water-Ice type into disarray.

{Ryan and Raiza}

Ryan grinned into the collar of his hoodie when he saw the attack. Unfortunately, he wasn't keen enough to notice the Confuse Ray flickering inside the fire. He knew that Glacien knew exactly how to bait out a fire move, but the Confuse Ray would come as a surprise. As the fire came closer, Glacien stood still. Right when it was about to strike, he opened his mouth, releasing a small cascade of water. As if by magic, it began swirling around Glacien, deflecting the Flame Burst. However, it was unable to block the Confuse Ray, and Glacien suddenly became dazed by the light.

{Ryan VS Raiza}

Both Litwick and his Trainer saw how the lil' ball o' blubber swayed on the spot. "Break the barrier with Energy Ball, then follow up with Clear Smog!" The sentient candle hovered closer, firing a virid plasma-like ball at Glacien, followed closely by a misty, translucent mauve spray that seemed to spread the further it traveled. Hopefully the Grass attack would penetrate the veil of water at least, making way for the leveling move.

Unlike most pokemon, if they were to get dizzy and start falling, they would be stuck on the ground, almost immobile. Well, Glacien was just a rolling monster. The dizzied Spheal suddenly hurtled towards the left and began rolling across the field in varying directions. All the while, he was firing off Water Pulses whenever he thought he caught a glimpse of Lucifer (or perhaps what he thought was Lucifer).

[Zephyrus the Priestess]

Startled and a bit bewildered at the turn of events, Lucifer watched the ball roll around for a while. Long enough to get hit by a spray of water that had, luckily, hit the tree in such a way that the brunt of the attack was blocked, but nonetheless the water stung and sent the Ghost-Fire type reeling. Back at the Trainer's platform-thing-where-the-trainer-in-battle-was-stationed, Raiza watched, with rising anxiety, as her Litwick tottered a bit, almost floating into a tree. "Oh, no," she murmured. When he shook his head vigorously, though, she let out a sigh of relief, though her heart still pounded violently. He hadn't gotten his circuits scrambled from the Water Pulse, no, but the way he reacted showed how hard the Water attack hit. "Calm Mind, sweetie! Just hang on; you can do it!" As the Ghost-Fire type hovered where he was, by the trees, he tried to focus and calm himself, trying to keep whatever darkness engulfed him the day before at bay-- unaware that his Trainer wished she could calm herself just like that.

{Slade Vs. Jacob}

"Knot escape, then lick!" Slade quickly said to Sasuke. Using the hole he made from the grass knot from before he quickly summoned another vine to drag him under ground before he was hit slam by Chalchi. Of course being dragged into the hole damaged Sasuke but not as much as the Body Slam would've done. After Chalchi slammed onto the ground Sasuke jumped up, and using his long tongue proceeded to try and lick Chalchi's face hoping for the paralysis.

{Jacob vs. Slade}

Attacking the only part of her that can really dodge? Okay, I guess you're asking for it, Jacob thought to himself. "Chalchi, dodge and use Freeze Pulse! Keep him locked down!" The Lapras lazily moved her head to the side, avoiding the Lick attack as her body gave off an immense amount of cold. drifting a freezing mist along the ground as Chalchi fired a Water Pulse down at the Frogadier. Just before it would have contacted the Frogadier it burst, firing a cone of water at the Lapras's foe instead of the normal Water Pulse. The cone began to freeze rapidly from the ground up due to the Freeze Dry, threatening to catch the Water-frog since it would be difficult for him to maneuver out of the double-sided attack whilst vulnerable in midair.

{Slade Vs. Jacob}

Sasuke landed in the ice shell trapped with no where to escape to. "Sasuke, Smoke screen then cut a way through the ice!" The frog opened his mouth and spun around leaving anyone looking from outside seeing only darkness threw the ice. Once the cover was set the frog then quickly cut the ice on the floor with his blade to make it less icy, then stuck his blade threw the lower part of the side of the dome away from Chalchi. Beginning to cut a hole for which to escape his icy prison as well as prepared for Plan B.

{Jacob vs. Slade}

"Chalchi, ignore the smoke! Crush the prison, now!" With that, the Lapras threw herself on top of the icy prison, shattering it and crushing everything remaining inside it. The Trainer looked over to Slade, pleased with himself. "I'll bet Sasuke's getting tired by now, Slade. All you've had him do so far is sprint around at full speed. No one can keep that much effort up for so long. If he even managed to escape Chalchi's attack, he's gotta be exhausted from cutting through the ice."

{Slade Vs. Jacob}

As soon as Sasuke heard Chalchi coming he went straight for Plan B. Using Knot Escape once more (Grass Knot) to drag him into the hole he uncovered from the ice. Jacob was right though, he is getting really tired. 1 more clean hit and he could be done for, though this next attack should help level out the playing field. After smashing the ice prison that had been filled with smoke, it bursted out surrounding Chalchi in black smoke. Slade then turned towards Jacob, "Ofcourse Jacob, if I didn't know that then what kinda trainer am I? That's why we came up with Plan B just for you." After Slade had said that roots broke out from the ice from around Chalchi (Grass Knot) and began to go over her and press downwards as she is trapped in the shadows of his smoke. With all that weight Chalchi is sporting this attack should deal massive damage if it hits.

{Jacob vs. Slade}

Jacob knew what he had to do the moment the Grass Knot was fired off. "Chalchi, this is why we did all that defensive training! Tank the hit, then use Water Pulse!" The Lapras gave a grunt of pain as she allowed the vines to wrap around her. However, just as they became tense around her she used Freeze Dry on the vines. Although she took substantial damage from the attack, thanks to her training and strategy she was able to shrug off the worst of it. "Now, fire!" Jacob ordered. The frozen vines shattered and Chalchi fired a Water Pulse down into the hole. After it burst, soaking the tunnel in water, the mist from Freeze Dry froze the hole over and trapped Sasuke inside.

{Ryan vs. Raiza}

Glacien was too discombobulated to realize that he had actually hit Lucifer. In his moderate confusion, he began a tremendous roll right into a tree and bounced off. When he landed, he was finally able to steady himself and a bruise had evidently formed on his head. However, as if by magic, the ring of water floating around Glacien began to funnel towards his bruise and it seemed to heal within a few seconds. And as if no water was expended, the rings formed back around Glacien and began, once again, their beautiful orbit. Glacien, always used to Ryan helping him if he got hurt when they played, was angry to see Lucifer just standing there while he had so obviously been hurt. With unexpected agility, Glacien rolled closer to the Litwick, shooting a Water Pulse when he was close enough.

{Slade Vs. Jacob}

'Jacob's up to something I can feel it' Slade thought to himself watching the hole freeze shut. "Head towards the other side of the tunnel then grass knot." Slade said to sasuke who headed to Slade's side of the field. The exit of the hole was cloaked with layer of ice so he couldn't get out without breaking it. Even if it isn't much, this should put some distance between what Jacob might have planned though they didn't lower their guard for when things start to get hairy. Then once again roots came out through the ground proceeding to try and squish her once more. (Grass Knot)

{Jacob vs. Slade}

As the vines were coming up Jacob shouted, "Chalchi, Body Slam!" The Grass Knot reached up, catching the Lapras in the air and pulling her down. However, by using Body Slam she was able to mitigate the damage from hitting the ground as well as drastically increase the force of her fall. The ice beneath her cracked as the earth crumbled beneath her, collapsing the tunnels made by the Grass Knots on top of the Frogadier, who was trapped inside them. Chalchi groaned in pain, but managed to pull herself upright after the attack.

"There's no way Sasuke got out of that, Slade!" Jacob said grimly, his clothes soaked through by Chalchi's rain.

{Slade Vs. Jacob}

Jacob was right and as such Sasuke was buried in dirt though close enough to the surface to make his way out. Once he made his way to the surface he flopped on the floor and was K.O. "Sasuke, return." Slade said with a mixture of sadness and proud of his pokemon's work. "You did your best buddy, now take a good rest." He then turned towards Jacob, "Nice battle, I hopped it wasn't too boring for you." He said with a smile. "Now, can someone please get rid of the lava. It's kinda overkill at this point to keep everyone sweating and us stranded here ya know."

[Jory]

{Jacob vs. Slade}

Jacob pumped his fist, smiling broadly. "Alright!" Chalchi brayed happily in response before disappearing into her Ball in a flash of red light. Jacob crossed the field toward Slade with his arm outstretched, going for a handshake. "That was an awesome battle, Slade. You did really well," he said amiably.

{Accumula Town, Unova Region}

Jacob's family jumped off the couch, whooping and celebrating the teen's victory. "Alright!" said his uncle excitedly. "He's doing so well. I wouldn't be suprised if he won at this point!"

[Chim]

(Final Four: Danielle vs Jacob: Wind Turbines)

While Brand announced the first semi-final, the wind turbines popped up and started blowing. It took a minute before the test run was over as Brand continued to explain the rules. "This semi finals are all Double Battles! You're allowed to switch during the battle only once! If one of your Pokémon goes down, you are allowed to use your third even though you already switched. However, if two of your Pokémon go down, you lose!"

[Jory]

{Jacob vs. Danielle}

Jacob nodded at the rules and looked around, trying to figure out how he could take advantage of the wind turbines. Well, the wind will make it hard for Spitfyre's flames to do a whole lot. So I guess I'm backed into a corner from the beginning, he thought to himself. He took two Balls off his belt and threw them into the air. Chalchi appeared in her usual flash of snowflakes. When Teo's Ball burst open, it released a cloud of sand that swirled upward around the Trapinch, followed by a bright orb of light that rose from him and dissipated higher up in the air. The pair landed on the field and looked at one another. Jacob chuckled.

"Danielle, this is just like our first battle! Try not to run onto the field this time, okay?" he teased.

{Jacob vs. Danielle}

Danielle whistled approvingly at the battlefield. She was hoping to get a shot at this field after hearing about Mareek's battle. There are two Pokemon that could take advantage of this fully so far, so why_not have them showcase their talent first? Danielle enlarged her first two capsules and allowed Avis, the natural flyer, and Corona, the baby floater, to take the stage.

"Have fun, you two~" Danielle encouraged her duo before turning to Jacob. "Will do Jacob! I'll fly over instead! I heard that was more fun than running!" she chuckled. "Ready when you are!"

[Chevaleresse]

Steel cage? I'm not sure if this plays to my advantage or not. "Alright, Lucas, you ready for this?" The Ralts let out a confident chirp and slid downward off of Kage's shoulder, stepping forward with quiet determination. He didn't do much, other than give the Cubone a cool look. "Remember what we just talked about?" The Ralts nodded. "Let's get this done," he called out, turning to face his opponent. He wore his sunglasses - though unsettling people with his 'gaze' might actually work out for him.

{Mareek vs Kage}

"Not gonna take the first move then?" Mareek called back, examining the fairy across the field all the while as Nemo did the same. The young fighter decided there was something more to this foe than met the eye, something to watch out for... there were not many who would enter a battle last and not take the first move, and Nemo knew from experience it either meant they had a plan or they were cocky. But most of the time it was the former.

Before his trainer could give any orders, the Cubone's body took on a bright glow as four flashes blazed before him and the sound of rocks grating against steel rang out as the thick, flat slabs of grey fell around him in a protective shield formation, a single, tiny space left vacant to provide a view of the opponent, though whether the move that had created it was stealth rock or something else was hard to tell. Nemo leapt back from the rocky barrier, glancing at Mareek, wondering why he hadn't been given any instructions yet... and to the ground types surprise his trainer seemed completely lost for a moment... looking around the field and at the audience as if he were a deer in headlights.

"Cube!" Nemo shouted, banging his club against the steel floor.

"That voice... could it have- no... had to have been the wind.""Nemo..." The boy still seemed to space out for a moment, his eyes briefly fixing down at his own hoodie before shaking his head, feeling his focus return gradually. The first thing that caught his attention was the orphan's initiative. "Good, you're learning. Now use what Java taught you." He nodded to down to the steel floor of the cage. Nemo gave his affirmative with his fist becoming cloaked in teal blaze of electricity growing larger and larger as he honed his focus and balled his empty fist tight, the sound of a thousand chirping birds filling the cage. Another nod was the only prompt he got to begin, and without a sound, Nemo slammed his fist into the floor with as much force as he could muster, the entire metal surface becoming live with electricity as the current spread in every direction as the ground type pumped more and more juice into the attack... fully expecting his opponent either to stay on the ground and get fried like a fool or make some maneuver into the air that would leave them a sitting duck...

Kage vs. Mareek

Shit. That sounds like - "Lucas, Trick Room and use the time to Calm Mind!" The dimensions inside the cage seemed to warp oddly, producing a disconcerting visual effect - and, more importantly, warping the space between Nemo and Lucas to give him time to maneuver. The Ralts focused intently, gathering his energy and bracing for the impact. When it hit, the Ralts shook, but remained steady.

Mareek vs Kage

"Wait a minute... did he really just? But why? When he's..." "Hey, Kage, was it?" the boy called across the field, honestly a bit worried this whole thing would be the fight with James all over again... "You uh... you do realize that a Cubone is slower than a Ralts, right?" As if to testify to the truth of the statement, Nemo suppressed a chuckle as he twirled his club in his hand briefly before firing it off fast as lightning towards the psychic type, his movement a near blur thanks to the room's effects... This looked like it might be as easy as Java told him the fight against that weird ghost had been!
