Ganolth
I started a ground mono run and I chose Turtwig as my started. Would it be out of spirit to use it since it won't be a ground type until Torterra? Also should I only choose dual type Pokemon with Ground first? Haven't done a mono run before. Guzam
Well if no early ground types is your problem I may have a solution and it requires messing with your save file to put a ground type in there, but I find that out of spirit as Turtwig and Mudkip are available off the bat, and onix after Julia. So I don't think it's out of spirit for a monorun. Kind of like how you can use Seel in mono-ice even though it is not ice. Speaking of mono-ice... Ganolth
What's up is there a Ground type available in an older episode?
Zane0144
Isn't there a Numel you can get early on?
Ganolth
I want to say it appears on rainy days, but I think that event got removed.
Vlado Vladimir
I think you can also get an Onix...
Zane0144
Nope, Numel is in my game before beating ZEL even. Not sure if you need to beat Julia first. Just make sure it is a normal rain maybe. Not a storm with lightning.
Ganolth
I might restart a do a fire mono run since I wouldn't feel guilty about using a non ground starter.
Another Felix
You could always get a Mudkip and train it to level 16, which you'll probably need to do for Julia anyway.

That was one of the first issues whether that would be against the spirit of the mono run.
Zane0144
Why not lol. Take an advantage where you can get it. A marshtomp is a ground type, use it lol
Lost Lore
Typically, so far as mono-types go, so long as the final form is of your type, the initial one does not have to be. So Mudkip/Turtwig in a Ground mono are fine, as their final forms are both Ground-type. Before Julia, you can get your choice of Mudkip/Turtwig and technically Burmy, since Wormadam Sandy Cloak is a thing (don't ask me where you'd go to evolve it into that, though). Don't think there's anything else until after her.
pyrromanis
For my ground monorun I chose turtwig even though it isn't a ground type until level 32. But beleive me, you would not regret for using it! The only hard part is until you beat florinia since you can only use grotle, but if you manage to set up a lot of curses you can sweep her with ease. The same applies for nidoking/queen, if you tolarate for using it for a bit as a nidorino/a until toxic spikes then it would be one of your most usefull pokemon for the monorun. Fumble
Also, you can get Mudkip a bit later on in the game. I'd recommend getting that Burmy, just so you have some more Pokemon (probably death platter).
Ganolth
Thanks guys I chose Turtwig, because I know how to get to Mudkip even in the dark ( 2nd favorite starter). Edit: Also I am restarting my main game, because I found my ep 11 Reborn. The IVs on my Togekiss are terrible and I don't think I can get a stone to evolve another Togetic. So my mono run may be neglected for a little while. Edited April 25, 2015 by Ganolth
