Why is exercise so haaaard?

Recommended Posts

So, bicycling is hard as heckle.

I've been trying to get used to it, for the last 3 weeks, and wind up breathless no matter what.

Not to mention, I live in a VERY hilly area. So, every morning I have to climb this huuuuuuge hill, with the most ridiculous incline ever. This hill could be an amusement park ride, goodness.

Anyone got advice or want to share exercise stories?

I know the feels.. It is annoying when you work out and are half dead and then realise it has only been 15 minutes.. I still prefer cycling since the place here is barely inclined.. It's much better than jogging.. So much better...

I just feel like I'm getting nowhere with my trials.

I've been trying my hardest to get fit, and its pretty difficult when your dad's idea of a healthy meal is grabbing fast food for dinner every night.

Not to mention, I have a tough time getting motivated to exercise and when I do I just feel overexerted and bleh about it.

Good music helps. A lot. If you have a stationary trainer at home, you can even watch movies while you work out ^_^

Music sounds like a good step, movies not so much, because I get drawn into them far too easily and it might just end up making me laze about more, lol.

If you've got some exercise music recommendations, I wouldn't mind hearing about those~

I know right.. I have so much junk food at home, and it is soo difficult to not eat it.. The worst part is my sister is the one who gets it but doesnt eat anything.. It's all kept in the cupboard right infornt of my room.. So every time I get out of my room I see it.. It taunts me... Also good music does help, but it won't motivate you to work out.. If your in a lazy mood nothing helps.. At least that I know off..

okie so motivation is an issue going to a gym could be decent motivation you see other people work hard you are more inclined to as well try mixing up your work out , do a jog instead of cycling once or twice a week and music really is a great pace maker trying to keep your rhythm with the base line or when the song ups its tempo you up yours etc it really makes you want to push a lil more its a challenge more than anything else, if your cycling long distances if you are starting out take a break every 10 miles get off the bike and stretch your legs hope this helps in some sorta way

Personally I prefer jogging over cycling. I feel like I'm getting more exercise done when I'm jogging.

All you really need is discipline. Just set a date and time where you will force yourself to go out and exercise no matter what. Like every Wednesday and Saturday, just give yourself 30 minutes to do some exercise. Before you know it, you'll fall into the habit and keep doing it.

About food, just tell your parents about it and I'm sure they'll try to give you healthier food. Though, when I started living out of my parents place, I managed to eat more healthily. So, my advice, move out. Nah jk.

And yes, music definitely helps. Either you lose yourself in music and exercise without thinking of how long you've been doing it, or you get pumped up to the music and get more energy.

The food thing, I've tried to talk dad into getting healthier stuff, but fast food is 'convenient'.

So, fml on that point.

I guess I'll try to give the music thing a whirl, since so many people have suggested it thus far.

I appreciate y'all taking the time out to help me with this~

I prefer jogging than cycling. Okay so your diet is pretty much out the window and that's the important part. Set a routine where you jog up and down the hills to build your stamina and leg muscles with cardio workouts. After a few days or weeks you should start cycling without a hitch. Your diet is the main issue regarding stamina...

Instead of asking yourself "Should I go to the gym today?", ask yourself this: "Do I want to better myself today?".

Exercise is the best hobby you can have, if you even want to call it that. It prolongs life, makes you look great, but most importantly, it makes you yourrself feel great. The amount of benefits you get from exercise is honestly too long to list here, but the pros far outweigh the cons.

95% of your workout is getting to the gym. That's it. Just showing up. Human beings in general are professional procrastinators, and your body will tell you it's ok to relax on the couch all day. Your body will tell you it's ok to order (and eat) two entire pizzas. The junk food you're being exposed to, by the way, has this habit of releasing endorphins into your brain as well, which result in people getting hooked on the stuff. Few have the willpower to say no to it in your position, especially when you've approached your dad and has dismissed your concerns for the sake of conveneince.

The big thing you've got going for you right now is the fact you're posting this here. That tells me enough that this is on your mind frequently enough for you to cause concern.

Take me through a normal day for you. Just so I give you proper advice, I'm going to ask you a few questions. If you don't feel comfortable answering them here, feel free to shoot me a PM:

* How long do you bike for?

* What's the average amount of food you eat in a day?

* How many times do you eat daily?

* What foods does your diet mainly consist of?

* How much sleep do you get on average a night?

* When was the last time you've had a check-up at the doctors?

* Do you have any other exercises besides cycling?

* How many times a week do you go for a bike ride?

* What kind of goals are you looking to accomplish from exercising?

The thing about things like biking is no matter how good you are and how good you get, you will always be breathless if you keep pushing yourself. Breathless or breathing hard is kind of what you want. You can be putting in what feels like the same level of effort, but maybe you are going farther or faster than before.

For something like cardio, it is a slow work up process. Getting strong is easy. Gaining stamina is much harder. That system doesn't build and grow itself nearly as readily as muscles.
