Soft-Resetting for Shiny Shadow Pokemon

So how does soft-resetting for shiny shadow Pokemon work? Does it show a star when you battle it as a shadow Pokemon, or is it determined when you purify it? I'm wondering, because I want to catch a shiny shadow Froakie, but I don't know if I have to purify it to determine that or not. Heck, I don't even know if shadow Pokemon are locked from becoming shinies or not.

From what I know, in the real games, Shadow Pokemon have a chance to be Shiny upon catching, and then a chance to become/stay shiny after purification.

Don't know if that's how Essentials works, however.

I haven't seen that before. I checked bublapedia and it was said it was a glitch in the old games. However the glitch was fixed in the old games.

I don't think you can't get a shiny pokemon from the shadow pokemon.

I know this is Rejuvenation, but in Zeta/Omicron shininess is determined both when you catch it AND after purification. In other words, there's a chance for it to have a star when you catch it, but when you purify it the shininess is recalculated, so it could lose that star. And vice versa. It might work similarly here.

And when it doesn't have a star when catching, it wouldn't have it when it's purified, right? Unless it's recalculated, and it could have a star when purified, but not when catching. I could be wrong, though.

If it doesn't have a star when caught, it could still become shiny when purified, I think. Honestly, this isn't very well-documented though. It would be a good opportunity to experiment with it, since Rejuvenation has a high shiny chance.

  • 4 weeks later...

After repeatedly trying to get a shiny Frogadier upon purifying it with no success, I say that Shadow Pokemon cannot be shiny upon purification. Well, for now, that is.

I don't remember seeing this topic.... whoops. Nevertheless, they can't be shiny because their data is predetermined.

Thanks for clearing it up, Jan. I guess it also wouldn't work because Shadow Pokemon are the failed versions of alternate colored Pokemon, as it was mentioned in that journal in Carotos Mountain's Xen Lab.
