Fumble
What's your favorite villainous organization in the real games? Mine would have to be Team Plasma, due to the split teams in Black 2/White 2. One side wants to liberate Pokemon so they can stop suffering (which they later change to helping the Pokemon), while the other side is simply power hungry. Plus N was in Plasma. ZEL
Overall, I likes Team Rocket the most, simply because they were basically just that: a criminal organization abusing/stealing Pokemon for what appeared to be mostly money and power. The concept worked out very well, and Giovanni is awesome.I like that their goals are so "simple" compared to what others teams have been trying to achieve, even though i do appreciate the evolution of storytelling in the games. Black/White and their sequels were nicely done, but just for the team itself, yeah, I'll say Rocket. Though Cyrus and Colress are my favourite antagonist characters. Team Rocket just need better grunts. And Team Rocket in the manga was awesome as f***.

Tomas Elliot
I honestly believe Team Rocket made no sense. I mean, what's the point in stealing Pokemon and selling them illegally? I mean why should a person purchase a Slowpoke tail for a million Pokedollars, if they can buy a Poke Ball for 200 Pokedollars, catch a Slowpoke and chop its tail off? I mean, the games establish the Pokemon to be so omnipresent in the world, that it really wouldn't make sense to steal them. I mean if a 10 YO kid can catch a terrible genetic experiment that destroyed the lab in which it was created, an average person should be able to catch a Slowpoke, right? Guzam
I will rate them worst to best GO: Team Flare: Fuck them pansies >> Team Rocket (Gen 2): Not as cool tbh. Didn't do much of note. Team Aqua/Magma: "Maybe it's called the sand, because it's between the sea and land." Team Rocket (Gen 1): The mafia idea and theme really worked well to start with, but they lacked the seriousness an evil team would need in the form of something like a legendary. Team Galactic: Cyrus is a fucking monster and I love it. Not to mention his amazing as fuck theme. Team Plasma: Holy fuck this team. Nevermind the "Save the pokemon, hahaha jk take over the world" Schtick. They were threatening and were everywhere and had a reason to appear (unlike team flare >>) N was very threatening while at the same time being an antihero of sorts. Ghetsis was a maniacal bastard, the Shadow Triad were cool, Colress is awesome and Ghetsis literally tried to fucking kill the main character. He would have too if N didn't save your ass. Not to mention the music ;~; Edited May 11, 2015 by Pyrrhon
Cepheus
we had this thread before (or at least similar): For me, the Teams got progressively worse: 1. Team Rocket + Goals were simple - money and power. and they weren't hypocrites or fanatics about it. (even though it somehow made no sense with with Pokemon running around EVERYWHERE - but that's what the mafia does... they beat you, and break your legs if you don't pay) 2. Team Aqua/Magma + Goals with somewhat understandable/reasonable goals (extending land/sea for living space) - Only saw one side... they didn't think about the drawbacks 3. Team Galactic - Goals were to create a new universe under their rule / after their imagination... they (read: Cyrus) was just a power-hungry maniac. 4. Team Plasma + Goals were liberate Pokemon - yay - they were total hypocrites about it... when they wanted to liberate Pokemon, why are they 'enslaving' them themselves? - Ghetsis was, again, just a power-hungry fanatic (+ N was the only one who was NOT a hypocrite in regards of those goals) 5. Team Flare + Create a new world... - ... by destroying the old one and like 99% of the worlds population (on the 'chosen ones' of Team Flare should survive) - Power-hungry fanatic - C'mon... those outfits are ridiculous! (and they thought they were fabulous...) Edited May 11, 2015 by Cepheus
Taska
Gotta be Team Plasma. They were the most mature team. N is pretty interesting as well.
Jacobliterator
Galactic. Cyrus is just so much more awsm than any other leader, though Team Magma/Aqua aren't bad either.
Tomas Elliot
Team Plasma hands down. They're the evil organization with the most characterization to me. From N to Ghetsis, they really made sure that these characters aren't just pixels, but also have their own unique personalities, and that makes them more memorable. Their theme about the clashing of ideals is wonderful, and it also shows that different perspectives can exist without cancelling the other one. Fuck Team Flare. I definitely agree with this. Specially that lat line.
Masquerain
All I can say is that I definitely have Team Rocket ranked as last . They're just a bland mafia whose goals don't even match their doings ( like someone up there already pointed out, anyone can catch a slowpoke and cut off its tail. We don't even see them try to catch a legendary or something, we just keep seeing them trying to control pokemon via radio signals without doing much with it) Flare.... well its a cheap knock-off of team rocket, really. If you want only the beautiful to remain in the world, why have ppl pay 5million pokedollars to join your team? Will that make them beautiful? Will it clear away their ugliness? No it won't. In the end their goals make little sense as well. Sadly, the only thing flare has going for them in my eyes is Lysandre's theme. I think it's one of my favorites. Character-wise and plot-wise, Team Plasma and Galactic are my favorite. They felt like they were a threatening presence for once, with Plasma making for one of the best games out there (esp bw2) . Galactics had me with their explosions and admins + cyrus. Also, I like how Cyrus was duping even his own organization in the end Goal-wise, my favorite is Magma. Sorry, not Aqua because to me, Aqua's goals lack sense. Expanding the sea would only provide living conditions for more water types, disregarding both humans and the rest of the pokemon. In my eyes, Magma is the "canon" team, since it's completely understandable that s1 would like to expand the landmass, making room for humanity to develop and whatnot. Maxie didn't see the bigger picture either, but yeah, goal-wise, I like the hoenn team most. Edited May 12, 2015 by Masquerain
Cepheus
you know about Team Rocket... yeah, they are a Mafia... but considering the Events just prior to the beginning of Pokemon Blue/Green/Red and the events occuring in these games makes Team Rocket not THAT evil... they are trying to be the good guys! (like Team Magma in Saphir, and Team Aqua in Ruby) "why do I think that?" - you ask? ... well let me explain: befor the games start, Team Rocket is working on "Project Mewtwo" - to create the most powerful Pokemon in existence - so that it can do their bidding (and most likely serve as a bribing tool - "give us control or it'll decimate your city!") - Ok that is evil... BUT Mewtwo is self-aware, doesn't want to be controlled, gets an existencial-crisis and goes on a rampage - destroying the lab on Cinnabar Island and fleeing to the Cerulean cave. NOW the game begins... and Team Rockets "evil plans" are involving capturing Mewtwo so it cannot run rampant and destroying everything! They accepted that Mewtwo is uncontrollable for them, so they put every thing they have into stopping Mewtwo! ... well in their own "cruel" ways... Encounters: - The fossils at Mt.Moon - "Maybe the ancient Pokemon are strong enough to be able to keep Mewtwo at bay!" - The player denies that! - Cerulean City - TM Dig - "We need to access that cave unnoticed... if someone sees a bunch of us someone might get suspicious!" - the Rocket Grunt at the nugget brigde is a lookout... to report if Mewtwo decides to leave the cave, and trying to recruit the player because he sees the potential in the player to maybe able to stop Mewtwo! - The player denies that! - Pokemon Tower/Celadon City - Rocket HQ / Silph Scope - "There is an invulnerable Ghost Pokemon in the Pokemon Tower! - Maybe we can use it to stop Mewtwo!" Ghost-types are very effective against Psychic types... (the immunity to Ghost types in the first generation was sadly a coding error, which was not intentional!) - again the player denies that! - Silph Co / Masterball - "This stupid brat is denying all of our plans to stop Mewtwo! ... If we can't battle it... we have to catch it! - I hear there is a prototype of a ball that can catch ANY Pokemon!" - They want to use the Masterball to catch Mewtwo as a final effort to save Kanto! - but yet again... the player defeats them... so Giovanni says: "Screw it! Take the Masterball kid! I hope you know that you have doomed us all!" - Veridian Gym - Now Giovanni is just plain pissed! You foiled his plans and now you dare to stand before him in a gym-battle! - That man is already broken, now you are just giving him the finishing blow and he dismantles Team Rocket... It is PURE LUCK that the plazer stumbles upon Mewtwo in the cave after becoming champion... you know, Mewtwo could have gone on a killing spree, while the player enjoyed being the champion! The player doesn't even have to go into that cave... it's totally optional! Yeah... you just averted the destruction of the whole region and possibly more, by pure luck, and stopped an organization who would have done it, if you wouldn't have foiled their plan to do so... MULTIPLE TIMES! The encounters on the Sevi-Islands in FireRed/LeafGreen are a different division of Team Rocket... they weren't in contact with the Boss or the rest... and so they didn't want to believe that Team Rocket was dismantled... The Johto encounters, were purely to bring Giovanni back as their boss! They continued the research and experiments in hope that their Boss would return, to lead them again! Team Rocket is the deepest of all of the other Teams... who are mostly just selfish, power-hungry fanatics...

Darvan Korematsu
Rocket seems like the most realistic team. They are essentially the PokeMafia and they have the most realistic goals of making cash and a side-business genetics department. Everyone else was pretty cool in their own way, but Rocket was the most believeable.
Another Felix
Team Plasma. Honestly, I kind of agree with them. If the Pokemon are kept as pets and companions, then I guess it's fine as long as they're cared for, but using them for cock fighting is really wrong, regardless of how available healing is. ZEL
Galactic and Flare combined kinda do remind me of Meteor, to be honest. Galactic was all about destroying the world as we know it so Cyrus could play god and try to create one to his liking, whereas Flare was about cleansing the world and restoring it to beauty again. What always bothers me a bit is that we usually get a good picture of what the Bosses are like, but as far as Administrators/similar are concerned, a lot of potential gets lost. I don't remember anything interesting about most of them other than that I could tell them apart. Not as bad as the grunts, though. Even something as simple as giving them names already adds a little bit: I mostly noticed this in Reborn, how the mere fact that all the Meteors have names makes the team feel more lively to me, because suddenly I'm able to start associating their dialogues with them as individuals, which makes them a lot more human. With Team Flare especially it bugged me, because it was implied that there aren't THAT many of them, considering it was expensive as hell to even join them. Perfect opportunity to give more personality to the existing ones.
ZEL
Something that just came to my mind is that it can be justified in-game in the sense that the grunts wouldn't want to have their names/identities revealed, since they have a life outside their criminal activities and don't want their reputation ruined? That'd make some sense, actually. Even though, personally, I'd still prefer names. I mean, the trainers get them... (and yes, it was necessary as soon as the Phone number/Re-match business was introduced, I know.) Fumble
Now that I think about it, nobody's mentioned villainous teams from spinoffs like Ranger. TBH, most of their desires are really... stupid, like the Societea's desire to get the Golden Armor to stay young. Cipher was pretty cool, since it had Miror B, so that's my favorite spinoff team. If only the spinoffs had more popularity... Edited May 13, 2015 by Chubb the Pig
