Fumble Posted December 27, 2015 Share Posted December 27, 2015 I've just beaten the fifth boss, so while I haven't finished the game and beaten the last two bosses that I've heard are more difficult than any others, here's what I think so far: Reveal hidden contents Starter: Chespin Partner: Fennekin These two are pretty nice: Chespin gets some great physically offensive moves (Vine Whip, Bite, Pin Missile), while Fennekin is more specially offensive (Ember and Psybeam with the Effect Boost emera). I'm very excited to get Gold Bars and trade them in for better TMs, though, like Shadow Ball and Flamethrower for Fennekin. The Bosses are pretty easy when you have alliances, tbh. I just use a Slumber Orb, let the lackeys go to sleep, and start spamming an alliance on the boss(es). I don't really have to fear hunger because your hunger is refilled before a boss, and I usually have plenty of Tiny Reviver Seeds just in case. Protect is always annoying, though. However, the Dungeons themselves are pretty difficult... Back in Nectar Meadow, I was not prepared for Gulliotine Durant, and the first Gulliotine one used against me hit. Then there were the Spite Shuppets in Gentle Slope Caves making me lose PP and my Elixirs (I almost ran out before finally leaving...) The Mismagius, Mienshao, and Garbodor can be pretty tough to beat, too, but Drifloon was worse than all of them. Aftermath is horrible for Chespin because Rollout damages it multiple times, but Unburden is bad, too, because of double the Minimize... The Emera idea is nice and all, but sometimes I find them a bit too strong, to be honest. Power Boost X + Power Boost Y, Barrage, Comeback, and Type Bulldozer are extremely good offensively, Guard Boost and Berry Power are great defensively, but I guess it's kinda hard to find them all in one Dungeon. I like Clairvoyance and Big Ears, though; they're helpful but not OP. The temporary boosts you can get by using worse Emera or Oran Berries on yourself (like [status] Guard) are amazingly powerful, though. I dislike the fact that you're forced to do story rather than doing more quests, but I guess they don't want you grinding too much before the final bosses. Oh well, I guess I'll make do with the Joy Looplet I bought and the Training Seeds I have. That Rotom quest though. I haven't used Rotom yet after that. >> I luckily had some Orbs... ...Also, I did one of the harder Dungeons using Pelipper Island Pokemon. I'm never doing that again. Xiri Posted December 27, 2015 Share Posted December 27, 2015 Okay so I've just beat the final boss and contrary to what everyone else said, the boss was pretty difficult for me. Here are my thoughts on it: Reveal hidden contents The Difficulty Difficulty-wise, it was probably the hardest MD game I played. Grinding is pretty much impossible as the game forces you to progress with the story unlike in previous games (I guess this makes more sense because it was kinda dumb to prioritize capturing an outlaw at Apple Woods over saving the world from getting paralyzed). Some missions were really difficult (e.g Salamence) but still manageable. You're given pretty OP mons through missions - but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll breeze through the missions. I barely finished this one mission involving defeating a Liepard but I had to defeat another exploration team who were also chasing after the cat - and my team of Dragonite, Salamence and Bisharp almost fell to a team of Trapinch, Natu and some other Pokemon O_O. New mechanics involving Emeras, Looplets, Alliances were pretty neat. Some emeras like Barrage and Distance Dodge are pretty OP but I don't think they made boss battles too easier. The Plot Maybe my expectations were too high... but I was slightly disappointed with the plot. I was kinda expecting a legendary-heavy plot - as the teasers did hint that a lot of Legendary Pokemon were going to be involved. But Pokemon like Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyogre, Lugia only made appearances via cut-scenes and weren't directly involved at all - which seemed quite odd. The first plot-twist (up in the mountain) was kinda expected because PMD tends to like those sorts of scenarios, but the plot-twist at the end was really neat. But overall, I felt the plot was quite rushed towards the end. I feel they could have slowed it down a little like the beginning of the game. They could have also made some effort to dish out some character development of some important characters like the Expedition Society members, which was another aspect I found a little disappointing. I kinda wish they did something where you still had the random missions like the old games, but the Orb was there in addition to them. But other than that, I do enjoy the gameplay, even though I thought the story was kinda weak. I also wish the continents had more story to them as opposed to just being towns with lists of dungeons attached to them, but that's kind of a minor thing. Well once you realize they more or less recycled gates story with a better execution..yeah it starts feeling weak. I also wish there was more story to those continents.. Also I would've preferred an actual Pokemon as a final boss. Other than that, I really liked the story aside from the epilogue which I thought was weak. The plot of the story and this final boss for super, got so ridiculous that I just started speeding through the text lol to hurry up and finish the game. They really could have done better. I was really disappointed we didn't get the special episodes that look into other characters like Sky had. In the Future of Darkness is one of my favorite plotlines in any pokemon game. It was so nicely done and interesting to see a story in the perspective of another character than your own human self. But who? -I'd also wanna see something involving Hoopa, because the fact that it has such a unique way of being in your party is neat and I wish there was more to Hoopa in this game. Well, it used to happen with explorers (We got sky) , so if this one ends up being popular enough, maybe they will consider remaking it and improving it... but as it is now, with all the continents and all the easter eggs from prev. games, it really feels like they wanted to make a game for all games but they failed hard in expanding properly on it. They ended up making everything seem randomly put in the game and serving no real purpose except a cameo. I think it is not too far-fetched to hope they remake it and improve all these things. Regarding plot and chars.. (bit of a wall ahead) Reveal hidden contents You are completely right about Krookodile, he was this hardcore criminal who'd fook your sheet up if you looked him in the eye, fast forward to turned to stone and suddenly he turns over a new leaf with no explanation or anything. This could indeed easily be a special episode I agree with the human part.. In every other game, it is something not so credible to find out someone is really a human.. Instead here, everyone down to elementary school kids hardly bat an eyebrow at the revelation. Yes, we did find out you fought off the dark matter in the past with Mew as well, but none of the pokemon you know now were there to see or know that. Not to mention, how many years ago did you fight ? How old are you if you're going there for the second time? Does time pass the same way in the pokemon world as it does in the human world? They could have made a mini episode of this you of the past who had to fight the dark matter with Mew. As for Mew, they did not properly expand on any of its plot either. Yes, we found out special powers, fought with you in the past, reincarnated as your partner again etc but.. We never found out why? Why did it possess the powers it had, why did it have to leave at the end if it would return to being a random Mew inhabiting a jungle? They could have also made an episode about that..and the way you get back your partner is a bunch of ...underwhelming tauros poop Oh look we already have 3 potential special epidoses.. They could also make an episode for Espurr and show us her perspective during the time she was a double double agent and stuff. There are many possibilities, they took none of them Another thing is that they hyped this turned to stone thing as something super absolute but in the end it turns out to be something that only lasts until plot convenience is needed. To be honest when I saw trailers and the story with all the legends showing, I really thought it would be a Hoopah-centric plot and it had potential to be something really cool..but instead, wellp, nah, let's recycle gates. Vague post game spoilers Reveal hidden contents I never felt compelled to play Sky past the final, final boss, but SMD really made me want to complete the game and recruit all the pokemon. This is probably just due to the fact that everything is more stream-lined in SMD; they lay out every mission you can do in the Connection Orb. Sure, "The DEFINITIVE Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game!" was a bit of an exaggeration but but! here's what I think The game is absolutely huge. There’s so much to explore, the story is paced so that you don’t even really begin to look into the main conflict until like halfway through the game, which is cool. The partner character is extremely lovable, and the character development is apparent. The game isn't really as hard as everyone says. The Looplets and Emera’s were a surprisingly fun piece of strategy, and I deffo have my favourite emeras (BARRAGE AND TYPE BULLDOZER OP) and if you happen to find an emera that isn't particularly good, you can simply 'use' it to increase stats. No grinding is necessary in this game, though I still wish they added a Dojo :[ Another thing is that the pokemon you recruit early on in the game are pretty darn overpowered (SALAMENCE) chances are your Pokemon are the weakest on the team, and you have the opportunity to control any three of them. So missions aren't that much of a problem. speaking of missions... The Connection Orb is genius, it’s a fun way to take on jobs and recruit teammates in a way that is far less tedious and more rewarding–everything you do can get you any number of new friends, which makes all the hard work feel far more worth it. Sky awakened the completionist within me, pretty sure I did everything there was to do, the 7 treasures, secret dungeons etc etc. the Connection orb wanted me to do that too,,,I dunno, I just get this awesome feeling of satisfaction every time I connect with a new pokemon. And you can meet all 720 Pokemon in this game, at least 300 of which just as NPCs in the main story, and they all have individual quirky dialogue which makes them fun to seek out and talk to, which I really appreciate. OKAY so the writing might be a bit choppy at best but jESUS CHRIST that ending-- alSO I LOVED THE VISUALS EACH DUNGEON WAS UNIQUE AND BEAUTIFUL (like that one mountain dungeon. holy shit that was mAJESTIC) Though I was a bit disappointed when they just revealed all the continents. I was hoping that in each game, we explored bits and bits of it. But I guess that was bc of the Pokemon Nexus.. I hope they so something with the Sand Continent though, a new game, perhaps? (I KNOW I KNOW this is highly unlikely, but I can dream, right?) here's a neat thing: Reveal hidden contents Did I mention the game is gorgeous? I definitely found myself audibly gasping at some of the scenery sometimes. Finally, of course, the music is absolutely fantastic. Couldn’t expect anything less of a Mystery Dungeon game. I still like Arata Liyoshi's style better but the new composers also did a great job with this. So glad they remastered old tracks such as Grand Canyon and Amp Plains QvQ (Note: I've never played Gates before js) All in all, though its plot may not be on par with Sky's (it's still OK tho, not great but OK) it improved the gameplay. No more going through the menu to select a move, bless. No more grinding (Even though I enjoyed it, it was kinda time consuming..) and IMPROVED GRAPHICS <3 (but I still like Sky's pixels too!) Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon is ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. This game is packed with Pokemon, missions, and lovable characters. It’s cute, it’s quirky, its fun, it can be a challenge, and an unexpected heart breaker. The plot is paced on the slow side but fills with twists towards the end that make it a complete emotional roller coaster. get Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. also regarding the plot: somewhat spoilers!! Reveal hidden contents So I realized that some of the messages in this game are similar to Gates to Infinity, the final antagonist is made of negativity much like the Bittercold, though that’s not the prominent theme this time around. In fact the main theme centers around how your characters are just children, and spend most of the time being told they can’t do anything because they are children. The adults put them down, their enemies put them down. It’s definitely something to think about, considering when all the adults are afraid it’s the kids who look at the situation with hope. That’s another message: never give up. I don't think you have the right to publicly laugh at our opinions because that's just rude. It's either number 1 or 2 on most people's favorite PMD games, so I guess. Gates to Infinity wasn't as great, though.
