Monorun off to a Shocking start

...Not really yet, but still did this run partially to make as many puns as possible. I'm really amped up about doing this though.

Let me introduce you to my team. Not far along yet, but will keep you all updated as it goes on.

Introducing...

Alice

joltik.gif

Named after a friend who's favorite 'mon is Joltik.

Pyrrhon

blitzle.gif

Named after the wonderful mod who hacked my game so I could start with these two. Also gave me a shiny Chikorita with perfect IVs and Judgement.

Panzer

pachirisu.gif

Panzer is a more pronouncable version of some kind of tank, and this thing is here to try and take a few hits, especially since its attack/special attack stats are very underwhelming.

Just started the game, so don't have any others yet. Waiting for a stormy night to get Elektrike.

I see you did go with my advice for Blitzle and Joltik! Good luck with the run, I've promised you and Electrilizer once I reach Cancellon in E15 and I'll see it through. Let's see how the showdown against the Flobot will go!

  • 2 weeks later...

After a lot of changing the date, I'm finally ready to introduce the newest member of my team...

Storm

electrike.gif

This thing was a pain in the ass to find and catch. And it's already level 15 at the time of capture, so can't even battle with it much yet, but she will become very useful against Julia.

Also introducing, the only non-electric type I'm going to catch without the intent to trade

HM?

bidoof.gif

Need someone for Rock Smash and Cut. Fortunately, I should be able to get Helioptile eventually for Surf, and I'm sure some other Pokemon of mine can use Cut and Rock Smash.

Double post, I know, but want to keep you all updated.

Julia has gone down. Only thing that gave me any trouble was Helioptile, as it kept lowering my accuracy with Mud-Slap, although the attacks did almost no damage. Combined efforts from Panzer and Pyrrhon took that guy down. From there, I just sent out Alice, who swept the rest of her team with Fury Cutter. Thanks for the advice to take this girl.

After only He knows how many resets, Florinia finally fell. A big problem I had was the fact that most of the moves my team know at the time of beating her are electric or normal, which don't really fly in this field. If Titania's field is like this... Well, I should have a Stunfisk, Lanturn, and Rotom by then, so this won't be too bad.

Also introducing a new member to this team...

DC

minun.gif

He's adorable, but kind of useless at the moment. Hopefully will be better upon leveling up

And after a bit of grinding and one common candy, Storm has evolved into a power Staraptor Manetric!

Think I've had enough of Reborn for one day. And a question: What type is PULSE Tangrowth? Grass/Poison?

I'll be honest, I had a lot more trouble on my regular playthrough with Taka and the PULSE Tangrowth than I did with this team. Nuzzle on a tank OP.

And now for a new, probably temporary addition to the team...

Satoshi

pichu-2.gif

Will likely be replaced by Emolga once I get the right weather.

Another update: All three PULSE Tangrowth's have gone down. Found them so much easier on this run than my normal run. Either I've gotten better, or my team is just good.

And for some Team updates.

Pyrrhon got upgraded

zebstrika.gif

And Satoshi was replaced, but not by Emolga as I don't know the right weather condition to find it sleeping on the street since it's apparently not Windy required.

Sheeple (Name is terrible, don't care)

flaaffy.gif

Yeah, so this was apparently owned by the guy who was constantly running in his building the the Jasper ward. I actually went to give it back as a Mareep, but he was no longer there. Oh well. His loss, my gain. And it knew Electric Terrain, which is an Egg move. Cool.

I feel Corey didn't make much use of his field effect in this fight. Yeah, Venoshock is powerful, but none of his Pokemon had Poison Heal or anything. Actually, had this been the Corrosive Mist Field, I wouldn't have been able to beat him without serious grinding. As it stands, most of my team were significantly below his levels, but he went down after 2-3 resets. Don't recall that Absol appearing on the roof of the gym after beating him though. Probably new. If we ever battle Ame, I expect her to have the Absol she used when introducing the trainer on the Train.

Also, Electric Terrain ruined his field temporarily. Very useful as an egg move on Flaafy.

And finally, Team Updates. After Corey, here's how my team is looking:

Pyrrhon Storm Panzer Alice Sheeple

Level: 28 26 28 27 21

And the newest addition to my team...

(Air) Jordan

Turns out it just needs to be a normal sunny day.

It's a mono-electric run. I can only use Electric type Pokemon. Rock gym isn't available yet, and I'll have enough good Pokemon for the Ground gym when I get up to her (Rotom Wash, Lanturn, Emolga which I already have.

Epic mono electric team combo against Shelly: Zebstrika + Manectric. 2 Charge to raise Zeb's Sp. Def, Spark on Zeb to raise Manectric's Sp. Atk if Struggle Bug was used, and Discharge on Manectric to hit both of her Pokemon and buff Zeb's speed. Didn't even need to grind.

A big problem with a mono-electric run I've found is that there are a lot of Pokemon you can use, especially early game. So many choices...

Anyway, my newest team member is here, replacing Panzer for now (will try to keep him up to snuff with the rest of the team though)

Solaris

helioptile.gif

Even if I find a Sun Stone, I need to hold out on evolving him for a while so he can learn Thunderbolt, since that still isn't a TM.

After countless soft resets, Shade has finally fallen. Paralyzed his Gengar with Jordan's Nuzzle, then used the field to my advantage and getting lucky by having Storm use Charge Beam so his Sp. Attack got boosted about 3 times, while killing his Gengar and wasting his Ultra Potions. Then took out Banette, Doublade, and Trevenant with Discharge, and then took out most of Rotom's health, but unfortunately Rotom took Storm down. Then Pyrrhon came out and finished off Rotom with a single, field-boosted (field was damaged at the time) Spark, and hit Shade's Chandelure with another to take it almost all the way down before fainting. Finally, I just sent out Sheeple as it could take a hit to use Thunder Wave. From there, Power Gem was all that was required to beat him.

And now, Team Updates:

Alice is now far more terrifying to Ame/Poptart, and I'm pretty sure I'd run screaming if I saw something like this in real life as well.

galvantula.gif

And Sheeple has thankfully gotten a name change

She now goes by the name

Jasmine

ampharos.gif

Much like within Team Meteor, Solaris proved to be utterly useless, so I swapped him out for...

magneto.png

OK, fine.

Been quite some time since my last update. Cal was annoying, but I managed to prevail by getting rainy weather, which really helped my team. Currently I'm trying to get enough coins at the game corner since my team is not strong enough to beat Kiki. Need a Shinx with Intimidate to cripple a lot of her team.

EDIT: After a lot of soft-resetting for a good attack IV and then needing to use 2 Ability Capsules (ugh), I'd like to introduce anyone still following this run to...

Flips

shinx-2.gif

IV's:

HP - 10

Attack - 24

Defense - 28

Sp. Attack - 25

Sp. Defense - 31

Speed - 4

I'm going to go train her into a Luxray tonight and take on Kiki tomorrow. Also, thanks to anyone who is still following this run, even though I, unlike most other people keeping track of their own, don't create any kind of story about the run.

So why did you name her flips? Great run btw

Because I had to grind for coins in the Game Corner by playing Voltorb Flip in order to purchase her.

EDIT: Flips has become a Luxray, who was key to taking down a few of Kiki's Pokemon. But by Arceus was she hard to take down. Had to use 3 revives and no idea how many potions. Hell, the only reason I was able to beat her at all was because of incredibly lucky paralysis.

Temporarily boxed Pyrrhon and Magneto to use Flips and pull out Solaris, who actually helped a bit with Electric Terrain. Truthfully, I may not use Pyrrhon that much any more. Flips has a higher attack, but slightly less diverse movepool. Big problem with this type run is that there are a lot of Pokemon one can use, so balancing the team is difficult.

Another battle with Aster and Eclipse done. These guys were easier than I expected, even without a partner here. They took down Panzer who was brought out for Cut the first turn, then Magneto and Storm got buffed from Charge Beam and took out a good amount of their team with Discharge and Flash Cannon.

Off to lose to Garchomp.

EDIT: I admittedly forgot about the battle with Taka that came right after the Aster/Eclipse fight when I made this post. Oh well. Gligar is a good option against my team, but fortunately it did very little damage and Jasmine beat it with a few Power Gem attacks. His Cradily was annoying because it got two buffs from Ancient Power. But other than that, his team fell pretty easily.

Ugh, I'm sorry everyone following this, but I'm very tired of this run already. Got up to Fern before Aya, and I realized that my team is far too one-dimensional, which is a massive problem and gets very stale very quickly. Sorry to everyone following this, but I'm stopping here. I will be starting a new run though, Duo psychic and ghost since they have a lot more diversity in moves and typing and are my favorite types. Thanks for following what I did here, and maybe this will eventually get started again. But I doubt it.
