Woobat for Ubers! (spoilers)

Who needs legendaries or pseudo-legendaries when you have WOOBAT!

If you're wondering why I used unevolved pokemon for this.. pretty much the answer is 'because I could'.

I would've much much rather had a magnemite with sturdy than the pichu to paralyze the Yveltal, but since magnemite isn't obtainable by that stage in the game it was kind of unavoidable, and pichu was pretty much the first pokemon I saw that could get thunder wave. In terms of the number of resets it's probably better to send both roggenrolas out before the pichu, but since the most common way for the run to go wrong was for the pichu to get hit before the thunder wave I just sent it out early so if it went wrong I didn't waste much time, rather than spend a few minutes setting up sand attacks only to have the thunder wave fail anyway (it's not impossible to win without the thunder wave of course, but it means I can't set up minimizes before the agility since I need to outspeed the Yveltal to be able to substitute before it attacks, and also paralysis reduces the risk of the Yveltal running out of PP - if it runs out of PP she will switch pokemon which is a problem - I think it was more time efficient to just reset every time the thunder wave failed rather than spend a lot of time on a run that's likely to fail).

The other noteworthy thing is woobat learning endeavor midfight - I wish I could claim to have had the foresight to have planned that far ahead, but it was honestly a complete fluke. I didn't even know Madame X had a 2nd dark pokemon at first, and I actually beat her once without using endeavor by just spamming air slash a bunch of times (but it didn't record properly so I had to redo everything again..), and then i realized that endeavor was actually a really useful move for taking down the hydreigon a lot more safely - in terms of this fight replacing calm mind would've obviously been better than replacing substitute, but since substitute is a TM it's easy to get back later on if I want to whereas calm mind is a lot more difficult to get back, and I didn't really want to ditch the woobat especially since I've already invested an ability capsule in it to give it simple.

Thank you for the spoiler...

Actually to me it wasn't really a huge plot twist or anything. I forgot about the player's mom as soon as I started playing. The only time I remembered her was when they mentioned her in the game, and then I proceeded to swiftly forget her. There was no relationship built between her and the player so that had no impact, and there really isn't any "spoiling it" for me.

Yikes! Closest I came was managing to take down Yveltal and Garchomp. Yveltal fell to Curse + Substitute from a Cofagrigus, and I poison stalled the Garchomp thanks to Poison Touch on Toxicroak. I didn't think it could be done. Well done!

Once you get a magnemite this strategy becomes amazingly consistent to be honest - once I got a magnemite I beat both Crawli and Angie (on the highest difficulty, not that the levels of their pokemon really matter very much) on my first attempts using basically the same strategy but with a magnemite instead of a pichu (Angie was more annoying because she leads with abomasnow which kills my sturdy pokemon with hail and also had a priority move which can potentially kill if it hits twice in a row, but still manageable). Level up all of the pokemon at least high enough to outspeed a paralyzed pokemon and lead with magnemite to paralyze them immediately and you can almost always put them down to -6 accuracy too which is really easy to set up against.

I even beat the Chandelure event on the first attempt despite the 2 back to back fights, albeit *very* barely (my magnemite was fainted in the first fight which made it immensely more difficult and I couldn't set up fully, I literally had only my woobat left at the end with 1 health and no substitute up when I KOed the chandelure)

The downside of course is that it's tedious as hell to fight non-boss fights like this (especially if you can't heal inbetween fights), and also it doesn't work in the slightest in 2v2 fights.
