Commander
I guess I could also give you an example of what a boss design kind of would look like. Generally, I prefer a bit of story behind each boss. I'll give an example from both the project that's coming up (it's a minor spoiler) and a late one from my canceled Fire Emblem RP. Pokemon Explorers Boss: Guardian of the Forest, Xerneas Species: Xerneas Approx Level: 85 Difficulty: Very Easy Moves: -Psyshock -Moonblast -Thunder Wave -Geomancy Bio: Xerneas guards the deeper parts of the forest forbidding trespassers from entering. The group encounters this legend after receiving an SOS letter from a lost Plusle. Xerneas does not listen to any reason and will attack at full might to try and stop any that move too close. Her attacks are powerful enough to one shot any PC, but...something seems odd in her attack pattern. Additional Notes: The battle will automatically end after 5 rounds Even with that shortened Bio, you can tell there's a lot more to this than a simple boss battle. I can't reveal what it is due to huge spoilers, but I'm sure there will be some ideas. It's also an example of a scripted battle that the outcome will generally result the same way. If I were to give this to the co-host though, I'd reveal a bit more info regarding the story behind it. And here's the Fire Emblem one. This is one of the Five Onishian Generals who were going to be very difficult checkpoint bosses throughout the RP: Phase 1 Name: General Zagan Race: Onishian Class: Sentenial Weapons: Brave Lance, Spear, Shield* Skills: Jump*, Aegis, Pavise Allie: Renie Race: Annean Class: Dancer Weapons: None Skills: None Difficulty: Very Hard Overview: Unlike many other high ranks, General Zagan fights alongside his men at the start. Fortunately, Heizen and Virgil are here with some forces to help reduce their numbers. The queen will aid you as well casting Meteor who will cut down enemies far away or hidden. Once reaching the big man, the real battle begins. Zagan has the ability to jump very high to move around the field. This is very dangerous due to the prisons many different levels. Even with three very high ranked members on your side, Zagan will use any dirty trick to win. Renie uses many dances to boost Zagan's speed and attack. This allows him to dodge and cut through many soldiers with ease. Reaching her to either kill or rescue is quite difficult, but once done, the general is nothing more than a pushover. When Zagan is pierced and hit enough times, he will retreat deeper into his fortress using his jump ability. He feels death approaching him and asks Demitri for his aid. The sorcerer grants his wish, but says it will come with a price. The general complies to face the consequences. Phase 2 Name: Holy Soldier Class: ??? Weapon: Holy Lance* Skills: Holy Storm*, White Void* Name: Dark Soldier Class: ??? Weapon: Phantom Lance* Skills: Soul Eater*, Eclipse Difficulty: Extremely Hard Overview: Zagan's soul has been split into two forming these two creature you face. Dimitri comments on how the White Soldier seems much weaker than the Dark showing how corrupted Zagan has become before leaving. The white soldier is indeed much weaker than the Dark and relies on far range attacks. His Holy Storm functions similar to white magic attacking those who are within range. White Void is a bright light that stops all projectiles and spells. Enduring his attacks and piercing his armor should be enough to conquer this one. The Black Soldier is a symbol of the corruption Zagan has become. He uses the Phantom Lance to pierce and even suck the souls out of his victims with his Soul Eater Skill. At the start, he leaves the players alone attacking soldiers from both armies watching as they try to escape his prey. He'll join his twin once he is in danger to aid him. The soldier also has a skill called eclipse that can pierce through armor no matter how thick or strong it is. What's worse is that his armor cannot be pierced by any normal weapons. Once the Holy Soldier is defeated, he disappear leaving the Holy Lance behind. If a player is deemed worthy to wield it, they can use it to attack the Dark Soldier and damage it to cause it to retreat. Demitri will appear demanding you give him the lance. Giving into his demands will cause him to retreat, but attacking may cause a death upon the player. If no players are able to wield the lance, one of the PCs will choose to stay to keep the Dark Soldier tied up while the rest quickly retreat. The fight will end in the PCs death with the Dark Soldier fleeing deeper into Onishian territory.
