Administrators Amethyst Posted August 12, 2010 Administrators Share Posted August 12, 2010 Rather than clogging up the new Pokemon thread. In regards to what types are weaker/stronger/offensive/defensive/cooler/lamer/worthy of attention/etc. Carry on from the other topic then... Bullet
*copypastas* *Warning long rant ahead Warning* While I can't entirely agree with Valentime, he does hae some good points. A type being "frail" or anything is only a generalization. There will always be exceptions. And yes, there can be "weaker" types, whether offensively or defensively. For example, poison. The only type it can hit super effectively is Grass, and there's a type that has an immunity to it, making it poor offensively for the most part. Face it, Pokemon aren't meant to be equal. Every type cannot be dominating in any given metagame, and there are constant shifts with new movesets being dicovered, as well as the Pokemon brought by each new generation. Currently, Grass is a rather "weaker" type, in comparison to types like Ice and Steel. I'm not sure who said Steel was unbeatable(WTF?), but it can't be denied that Steels have many advantages, with 11 resistances and and 1 immunity, as well as a pool of diverse Pokemon. The point is, saying that Grass types are just as good as any other is nice and all, but it's just simply not true. /rant
N8theGr8
In my opinion, in this Generation of Pokemon, the best offensive type is Dragon. Why? Although it doesn't hit anything super effectively except for other dragons, it's only resisted by one type: Steel. So, if your going by both of Rawrchomp's STABs, you've already nearly covered everything for neutral damage except for Skarmory, Levitate Bronzong, and maybe a few others I can't remember. All you need then is a Fire fang/Fire Blast/Flamethrower and you're good. Plus, look at it this way: Although Dragon types are few and far between: EVERY DRAGON IS OVERUSED/UBER EXCEPT ALTARIA. Even then, Altaria gets seen fairly often in the UnderUsed environment. There are no 'NeverUsed' or even rarely used Dragons. Also, in the Uber tier, the only non-legendary Pokemon BESIDES Wobbuffet are of the Dragon type. Many legendaries don't even make it to OverUsed! (Moltres, Entei, Articuno, Raikou, etc.) I have always thought Dragon STAB is incredibly powerful. Also, Dragons have access to one of, if not THE best stat-boosting move in the game: Dragon Dance. Boosting both Attack and Speed in one turn is invaluable and is the reason why Gyarados and Dragonite are the monsters that they are. Because of Dragon STAB being so powerful, my opinion for the best defensive type is Steel. With Dragonite, Flygon, and Kingdra running freely in OU, it's invaluable to have a Pokemon that can resist an ongoing Outrage or Choice-locked Dragon Claw/Pulse. Many famous (or infamous?) OU walls are of the Steel type (the most obvious being Skarmory, but some others are definitely there, mainly Bronzong and Forretress). I, in fact, love Outrage because it allows my Skarmory to safely set up entry hazards while only taking around 15% damage each turn. In my opinion, the WORST offensive typing is definitely Poison. Like Dragon, it is only super effective against one type, but unlike Dragon, it is resisted by three types and IMMUNE to an extremely common defensive type: Steel. Poison types usually have very limited access to offensive stat-boosting moves, such as Swords Dance and Dragon Dance. The worst defensive typing in my opinion is Fire for many reasons: First and foremost, it opens a weakness to Stealth Rock, one of, if not THE most commonly seen move used in the OU metagame. Fire is also weak to two of the most commonly seen offensive moves: Earthquake and Stone Edge. You never see the term 'Defensive Fire-type', because although it is a decent offensive type, it shows too many weaknesses defensively. Thank you for being able to read that huge amount of text~
