[Spoilers] E16 Status Discussion

Do you think it could be at all possible to see a mobile pulse system? almost like a suit of armor? iirc, all the pulse systems we have seen so far have been sort of stable defensive wall-esque pokemon that wouldn't move. Not wall as in like a blissey, but literal walls. Tangrowth? Wall of vines and plants. Avalugg? Wall of ice/Glacier. Swalott? Poison sponge wall. They've all been stationary.

But what if pulse armor became a thing? Turning a pokemon into a physical weapon. On the thought of shadow pokemon, they had their hearts "closed" essentially turning off their morality and turning them into machines. It is fairly clear in reborn that the bad guys (apologies for my lack of formal nouns, haven't played the story in a few months) pokemon, like Sirius' garchomp will openly attack people, as well as others. So what if a mobile pulse armor was created to even further enhance a pokemon's destructive capabilities? Like Sirius' garchomp on a free-roaming pulse machine literally tearing down Reborn city again?

It would be an interesting development, as we have slowly been tearing down team meteor and re-uniting our forces (Gym leaders and other potent figures) so what power plays would meteor have to stop us? Lin can't possibly beat every single power player we have (speaking in terms of Us vs Team meteor)

Also, i still don't know who the voice was when we left the Arc de Astray (apologies for the misspell, and apologies if i just necro'd a potential conversation from earlier in the thread).

Solaris is the one with Garchomp, and I believe in terms of Pulse pokemon as a Weapon we have seen Camerupt although he was stopped, we also know of a Clawitzer I think it was being used as a cannon, I don't think we will ever see them mobile as the pulse machines are huge and are unlikely to shrink any time soon as they likely use huge amounts of energy to produce the enhacement effect

I mean, it's not like we've never seen any enhancing dark armors, right?

... right?

Been there, done that.

Mobility has always been an issue with the PULSE's, as the Meteors mention several times. The Pokemon are easy to move, but that machines are all very heavy. It's actually quite impressive how they package up and move the machines around as they do. Abra was given armor to help connect it to the machine, and while this gave it a much higher degree of mobility than other PULSE's, it still suffered the fate of being attached to the machine's base. A mobile PULSE would require a great deal of updates to the current model, making it significantly lighter and smaller.

Say, what have ZEL been up to? Haven't seen them in a pretty long time...

It's been about two months and we're getting close to 100%, so I'm going to reiterate this for those who did not get a chance to see it.

Hate to drag the discussion off topic for a moment, but I'm just hopping in to give a casual reminder to everyone. It's been a while since our last release and we've gained a lot of new members since then (welcome, by the way, if I haven't ever greeted you). Now, I want to let you guys know that once the status reaches 100%, that does not mean the episode is immediately released. After reaching 100%, the developers participate in a brief alpha test or two before shipping the beta off to our ace members. After the completion of the beta testing, then Episode 16 will be shipped out to the community to sift through the remaining bugs. After that's finished, Episode 16 will be put on the downloads page for everyone to use.

Additionally, following the community release, the forums and server will be placed under a one-month spoiler lock to prevent spread of game spoilers immediately. For more information on the spoiler-lock, I recommend checking out this gem.

Out of curiosity, when it DOES get released in it's alpha beta etc forms, do you guys just go through and TRY to break the game and whatnot?
Like, "I wonder if this wall is actually a wall", and you just run at every single wall to make sure it is? With each trigger, and event and, and puzzle?

I've never participated in an alpha so I cannot speak on the alpha testers' behalf, but it's beta testers choice as to what they test. Some people thoroughly test each tile and event, while some just skirt through the storyline. It's really up to each beta tester. Though it is recommended that beta testers test as much as they can during the beta testing period.

Alpha testing is given to very limited group and involves finding simple things that would make the game otherwise unplayable (ie: talking to this NPC causes the game to crash, or this puzzle has a big loophole in it where you can XXX). Beta testers involve a larger group and find smaller bugs (ie: the player can walk through this wall, or there's a typo in this NPC's dialogue) and find a general sense of overall balance to the game (ie: PULSE Swalot was level 90 in beta testing, but got lowered for public release) The whole process takes a few weeks typically, a month at most.

When speaking of "Ace Members" for beta testing, does that refer to all members with the "Ace Member" tag on the forums who are willing to participate in the beta testing or is it just a bigger group of handpicked people?

I know Ikaru is one of the alpha testers (probably Inuki as well), but I can't think of too many. Generally that part of testing is focused on making sure the game is playable. It's generally very closed off as the game could cause major crashes and such. After the initial testing there is done, it's passed onto the beta testers which is way, way bigger of a number in order to stop many of the minor errors and sometimes major missed glitches, but that's not the only thing they do. We also give oppinions and thoughts on the game's fights such as when Ame asked us if the Maison fight was too hard due to the design.

Both of these periods last at least a week each but if I remember right episode 14 took two weeks before it came out (I wasn't actually an ace then...so hard to remember).

It refers to ace members, yes. There's an ace (and staff) exclusive subforum which is where the betas are posted.

Alright thanks, and if I've understood right, you get Ace Member automatically by being registered for a certain amount of time, like you get Familiar after being registered for 6 months? Or is there some other process like getting a certain amount of posts etc.

goodbyewavingtvdoctor-who.gif

You are correct and if I'm allowed to divulge a super top secret procedure that only the toppest of the top elite users here know abo-

Alright so anyway yeah, basically I'm pretty much the only alpha tester but we do it in a skype call (very secret!!!) and I screen share (cmon discord get your shit together) it for Ame + potentially Dan and/or Inuki; for the most part I just play through it as anyone else would and make sure it's, you know, playable, from start to finish. If I catch any side-quests like any other player would I do those. If there are any especially complicated side-quests I am generally told to go out of my way to (try to) do those too. Sometimes there are things she fixes for me that don't necessarily solve the problem for others. you know, like the yureyu building

tl;dr I kind of just play through it once and once it works that far it goes to the beta people. That's when things that aren't immediately obvious start breaking because unlike me they are not one person and all do things and cover a wider area so to speak.

I'm a little hesitant to mention the exact process because it's eventually going to change but more or less yes, that's correct. The member ranks currently go Member -> Familiar (6 months account...time...?) -> Veteran (Familiar + 750 posts) -> Ace Member (site shop item use).

If I remember correctly, you have to be a Veteran, which is the 750 posts, and get the item needed from the store. It's not like you get it off the bat either because to truly be an ace member, you have to have the 750 posts as well. Of course, there were other ways of getting Ace a long time ago, but alas, they are no more. Only way to get ace now is the 750 posts and have the store item at the same time. And to get the store item, well.... You'll need a lot of rupees for that, which are made by well, posting in rupee-designated areas.

I do know this is a little off-topic from what this thread is for, but I wanted to be a little more specific on how the transition from Veteran to Ace worked.

As Ikaru explained, the basic process is playing through the whole game once, and making sure nothing crashes too hard. Then the beta testers check the sidequests, the individual tiles, the dialogue, problems with moves and/or abilities, and try to find as many mistakes as possible. In general, it's detailed playthroughs, but if Ame wants something extra that she cannot find or do herself, we are more than happy to.

Usually there are nice surprizes like Techie Jonathan's sudden rise in power or certain wards disappearing from the map.

I found White Reborn music for most fo the city wards on youtube. Except for White Beryl and White Obsidia. Are you saving them for the final release Ame? :-)

ahhahaha wow i totally forgot about white obsidia

i

guess i'll do that soon

Like for instance Titania, her values are +5/-8. Does this mean that your maximum relationship value with Titania is 5, or does it mean that there are 13 point giving interactions with her and in this example the player made 5 good decisions and 8 bad decisions, and that hypothetically your values with Titania could be +13/0?

those are current max/mins

or rather max/mins up to the end of 15 when playing on E16

---

regarding alpha/beta testing, i am going to have more than one alpha tester this time because those who have played the betas can probably attest to the fact that one doesn't seem to be quite enough. and, because there's so much in this update that has changed or been added (or is just generally fucky like the city update) I intend to leave it in beta for a longer period of time than usual.

so heads up with that.

E16 area is evented and the puzzle is done. it's... i originally felt iffy about the puzzle but then i took like pieces of three different things and smashed them all together and now it's cool.

actually.

i'm pretty sad because i ended up having to trim a lot out of it in order to solve for lag :c the game seems to start lagging at around 200 event tiles per map, and i got like halfway through the puzzle in one of the rooms, realized i was coming up on 300 tiles and was just like 'well shit.'

so i had to scale back and i'm disappointed about that. it also cost me a bit of time for having to tweak it so much. but ultimately, the core parts of what it was are still in tact, and it's not like it'll be boring.

it might still lag a little on lower end computers though... it shouldnt be too bad. I'm pretty sure I have everything under 200 at least

now for the fun part.

Did you try to report the lag in Essentials? I only found some old topics on Essentials forum, nothing recent. And most claim that lags have not been reported for a long time. It really is a shame that you have to cut things because of this.

EDIT: Oh and even though White Beryl music is in E15 game files it's still missing on youtube.
