Zane0144
You are thinking of Cal. I mean Blake and Victoria. Blake is the suped up ice version of Fern with 30% more jerk and slightly less swag. And oh yeah I forgot Noel. Although I guess he can get a pass since GameFreak was at fault not him Edited October 5, 2015 by Zane0144
SkyRunner
With all the "lost" monotypes going on in the game, I'm tempted to somewhat break mine just for immersion's sake. We must keep our monotypes pure. But yeah, it really is a shame that so many monotypes were broken in the game.
dead account
Well, that was a humiliating mistake. Anyway, I'd prefer if more characters kept their monotypes. It makes their battles easier more interesting.

Guest
Speaking of teams, Sirius' team is particularly interesting to me. He uses non-competitive-like mons, with the exception of Chandy, and he even uses a Floatzel. It's just weird to see a high-ranking Meteor member like him to use a not-so-powerful kind of mon. Then again, he used his Seviper to attack Saphira, used his Chandy to burn houses and people. I wonder what he'll use a Floatzel for?
Tringus
I thought Taka used Floatzel, not Sirius. Unless that was changed, though I don't even know.

Sirius also has.. Manectric, Probopass, and Honchkrow, I think?
dead account
Maybe the Floatzel saves people who are drowning, then after the person thanks it and turns their back, the Floatzel pulls a pun gun and shoots them? Or maybe he just makes it drown people. Either way, I'm pretty sure his team aren't meant for straight up fights, and more for just ambushing and killing people. Hence why we only ever battle him like once. Edit: how did I not notice that mistake earlier? My Dr McNinja reference is ruined... apart from the fact that there are no dolphin pokemon... Pulling puns on people is the best way to make them want to shoot you kill someone.

Abyssreaper99
So looks like we're due a battle with Sigmund and Sirius then (I can imagine ZEL being in charge of the Agate PULSE) as we haven't battled them for a while. I feel like Fern is going to get a team change again if he uses megas. Victoria could have a mega medicham if she used megas and if we rematched Cal then a mega charizard (not bothered). I don't know if Cain will need a team change or not if he will use a mega. So many possibilities for rivals and other important trainers.
Masquerain
We must keep our monotypes pure. But yeah, it really is a shame that so many monotypes were broken in the game. Yeah I also think so. On one hand, They kind of break the 4th wall with the "lol you think im dumb enough to go fight a poison gym with a full on grass team?" It's something we've always wondered about in mainstream games, how certain npc with completely noob teams manage dto get badges or such On the other hand, breaking their monotypes kind of breaks their characters as well for me. Also it's basically admitting that you're weak if you have to get a SE 'mon to beat a gym (for monotype teams) Edited October 6, 2015 by Masquerain

Also it's basically admitting that you're weak if you have to get a SE 'mon to beat a gym (for monotype teams) To be fair, in Fern's case, like 4/6 of his team were weak to Aya's team. That's on top of the fact that they were battling on the wasteland field. Even if he wasn't a complete pushover, I still think Fern would have a tough time. In Cain's case, the Oshawatt just wouldn't let him go. Cain still mostly uses Poison types. And I already mentioned Cal's Medicham(I mistook him for Blake ealier). And Cal still uses mostly Fire types.

My statement stands that they're admitting their weakness by breaking their monotype, mostly in Fern's case because Cal and medicham is a symbolic thing and Cain's oshawott could have still been the sole exception to his team but nop
Zane0144
It's within Ferns character to break mono at least I guess. I could easily see him being like, "cheap noob gym leaders with their type advantage and field effects. There's no way they could beat me if I could use pokes that advantage theirs too. In fact..." dead account
Well, nobody ever said Fern was a good trainer. I'm sure Fern wanted to break his monotype for a while, and just used the poison gym as an excuse to try and(fail to) make it seem more like a common sense thing than admitting weakness. Either way, Fern's team got worse after breaking the monotype, which kind of says a lot about his team building skills anyway. Also, what do you mean about Samurott not being the sole exception to Cain's team? I don't remember him adding non-poison types apart from Samurott to his team. When was this? Global Mods Ice Cream Sand Witch Posted October 6, 2015 Global Mods Share Posted October 6, 2015 Cain added Galvantula and Absol to handle Radomus (who he never ended up battling). I think the team changes actually fit Fern's character. Back in the Showdown league, he was apparently known for disconnecting in battle when he was losing (saying his Internet lost connection), and then coming back on with a completely different team. Btw, when did Cal use a Medicham? I don't remember that.
