Sound Sorting!

Hey! So I alluded to this in a couple other threads, but I -was- going to have you all help out with animations directly. I'm sort of going back on that regarding the bulk of the work just because the platform's not quite as friendly as I'd like and I want to be able to quality-check everything. So that may or may not happen, we'll see.

However there is something you guys can help me with. So we're doing animations, right? But that also includes sound effects. And goodness, sound effects and I do not get along... But that's a different story. So our current array of sounds for moves is pretty disorganized, and missing a ton. I also think there's stuff from the RTP in there, and most of you probably don't know this (or what that is) since this is a Pokemon game, but I detest RTP resources with a burning passion. Anyway, that's a mess and it's hard to work with, so basically I'm burning it to the ground and starting over. New sound files for everyone. Yayyyy.

I found a pack of Pokemon sounds that were put up for free use (I think they might be from PMU?? idk), and it seems to be pretty thorough, so I'm looking to get through those. The problem is, it's also terribly unorganized. Almost every file is just named magic####.wav. This makes it really difficult for me to choose sounds for moves unless I want to scan through all 1500 files myself and try to match them to each move from memory. Or just pick at random until I find something acceptable. Gross.

This is where you guys come in.

I'm going to post the entire download of ~1500 unsorted files. Y'alls task is to, as a team, sift through these files and post here when you figure out which sound might be good for what (kind of) move. I'll then rename it locally, so that I at least have a chance of finding what I'm looking for when doing these animations.

So, example:

• Say you open file magic12.wav and you realize, hey, that sounds like Hyper Beam. Just post here and tell me that magic12 is Hyper Beam.
• Now, suppose you open another random number, and you don't quite know what move it is, but you think 'damn this sounds like a sound for an electric-type move'. That's fine! Just post saying that.

I'll rename the file on my end, be it to Hyper Beam.wav, or just something like Electric1.wav. Then I'll update it on my end, and periodically update a refreshed file with only unidentified sounds.

You don't have to post something for every wav; even if you just do a few it helps. It also doesn't have to go in order, and we don't necessarily have to get all of them done, but I'm not likely to use any sound that doesn't get sorted.

Magic30 sounds like some kind of Bubble attack.

Magic36 is probably Teleport.

Let's get onto this:

Magic197 sounds like a cutting move,considering it's heard multiple times,I'm assuming slash or Leaf Blade.

Magic199 sounds like Gust or a wind based move.

Magic204 sounds like something wind based but stronger,potentially hurricane but works with Twister.

Magic215 is an exploding move,would work for both Self-Destruct and Explosion and perhaps even Aftermath.

Magic219 sounds like a draining move,not as strong as Giga Drain though,I'd say Absorb,Mega Drain or Draining Kiss.

Magic222 sounds like dig.

Magic223 is fire based and from the sounds of it,is Incinerate.

Magic224 is also fire based and is more along the lines of Flamethrower/Fire Blast.

Magic225 sounds like Absorb.

Magic236 sounds like a stat boost.

Magic563 sounds like Confuse Ray

That's what I've gone through and have been able to recognize for now,will add more later on.

Alright, sounds good. I plan on going through every single one so I'm leaving this for editing purposes.

EDIT: Here they are, mind my ramblings, I'm just listening to them on repeat and typing out my thoughts. Also I have bolded the ones I can't think of now and might come back to later. Will be updated as I continue through.

Also, some of these, I pretty much know 99.9% for certain. Those would be the ones that just say it simply like "Ice Fang" or "Yawn". More rambly=less likely to know, unless otherwise stated in the rambling, like Blizzard or Sludge Bomb.

These are definitely PMU sounds, hopefully my time playing the game will help out here... Alright, here are my attempts

magic1 - Harden/Swords Dance/other similar stat-boosting move

magic2 - This is easily recognizable as the basic attack sound in PMU... so I suppose that could translate to a Tackle/Pound/etc.

magic3 - If I recall correctly, Curse for Ghost types. May also be the Destiny Bond sound in the game.

magic4 - Headbutt/Tackle/Pound/etc.

magic5 - Rock Climb, I think?

magic6 - Ice Fang

magic7 - Moonlight/Morning Sun

magic8 - Definitely Blizzard. But it might also be the same sound for Hurricane and the like.

magic9 - Never heard this... Electric-sounding though

magic10 - Soak, but could be used for things like Dive as well

magic11 - I'll probably get the drain sounds mixed up but this sounds like Mega Drain

magic13 - Sounds like another basic hitting move

magic14 - Stat-boosting?

magic15 - Slash/Cut/Scratch/etc.

magic16 - Not sure, could be a Bubble sound, though I seem to recall that being longer and more pop-y

magic17 - ...I have no clue. Thunder maybe?

magic401 - sounds like a popping sound of sorts, could maybe be an Air Balloon popping?

magic402 - a wind blowing sound and then a crash. Maybe Brave?

magic403 - crashing sound, kinda like the end of Surf.

magic404 - mirror shot/varieties of mirror attacks

magic405 - sounds like impact of Ice Ball

magic406 - electric buzz and then crash?

magic408 - this sounds like Attack Order but without buzzing

magic409 - slightly electric-ish impact sound. maybe wild charge or volt tackle

magic416/425 - fairy-ish 'shing' sound (used in PMD for illumination iirc)

All right, I've updated everything posted so far, AND I pulled out all of the identified sounds from the file and reuploaded it. So, as of this post, the soundsorting file from the first page only has unidentified sounds in it, meaning you can be clear that what you check out hasn't been posted yet. We've already gotten through about 250 files, and that's great! But there's still a lot to go, so keep it up, everyone!

After one or two more waves of this, I'll start posting specific moves to look for sounds for.
