Xiri
I've been having a lot of fun playing in monotype tiers - and I was wondering if I managed to build a well-functioing team. Feedback will be much appreciated! And just for your information, I'm planning to make a monotype team for every type (mostly OU). The order is going to follow the order of the Reborn Gyms. I actually made a Grass mono-team a few days ago, so I'll post that team up in a few days. Then, it's going to be Bug, Ghost and so on. ELECTRIC TEAM Thunderbolt (M-Manectric) @ Manectite Ability: Intimidate (Lightningrod)EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD Timid Nature - Flamethrower - Hidden Power Ice - Thunderbolt - Volt Switch The team's Mega and powerhouse! Self-explanatory really. Thunder (Zapdos) @ Leftovers Ability: Pressure EVs: 248 HP / 176 Def / 68 SpA / 16 Spe Bold Nature - Defog - Heat Wave - Thunderbolt - Toxic The team's physically defensive Pokemon. With a Focus Sash-Galvantula and Sturdy-Magnezone chilling in the party, entry hazards are a pain - which Defog handles. I was debating Roost over Toxic - but Roost makes Zapdos Earthquake-bait, and that is obviously not good for it. Toxic seemed to work well by crippling down walls slowly. Evilire (Electivire) @ Expert Belt Ability: Motor Drive EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD Jolly Nature - Cross Chop - Earthquake - Ice Punch - Wild Charge The team's only physically offensive member (there weren't many options available in terms of physical attackers for electric types). In this case, Expert Belt seemed to work better than Choice Band or Life Orb - as not being restricted to a single move and suffering recoil damage was too much for this guy. Knife (Rotom-Wash) @ Leftovers Ability: Levitate EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 SpA Calm Nature - Hydro Pump - Pain Split - Volt Switch - Will-O-Wisp I always like to make my Rotom-W a specially defensive Pokemon - which applies in this team too - as Zapdos already handles the physical side relatively well. Pretty much the standard Rotom-W set - although I might replace Pain Split with something else. Tulalut (Galvantula) @ Focus Sash Ability: Compoundeyes EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD Timid Nature - Bug Buzz - Energy Ball - Sticky Web - Thunder Galvantula almost always is my lead (unless my opponent is rocking with a mono-flying team). Sticky Web is crucial for fast mono-teams like another electric, flying, dark etc. Thunder is run over Thunderbolt because of Compoundeyes. Coil (Magnezone) @ Choice Scarf Ability: Sturdy EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def Timid Nature - Flash Cannon - Hidden Power Fire - Thunderbolt - Volt Switch I used to hate Choice items, but I've grown to love the Scarf item ever since I used this guy in OU (and now in monotype). I'm running Sturdy over Magnet Pull as the only time the latter ability is useful is when I'm fighting a mono-steel team. This team has one SEVERE weakness though - and that is Mega Venusaur. It eats up super-effective fire and ice attacks very easily - and I don't have any Psychic or Flying coverage on this team. Worse, it packs Synthesis, so it can restore its health after I have done so much to inflict damage on it. Since M-Venusaur is pretty much a necessity in mono grass or poison teams, I think I do need to have a decent counter for it. Raikou with Extrasensory seems like an option - but I have no idea who I'll replace... Assault Vest-Latias also wrecked my team too (but this was before Electivire was added, so I might have a better chance now).
Vlado Vladimir
In my opinion you should consider changing Electivire (which is not as good as it looks actually ] , for anything else immune to ground, such as Thundurus(can be mixed or the Nasty Plot set) or an Eelektross (Assault Vest) or just bulky overall so it can switch on Excadrill when Zapdos gets too weak. If you hate Choice teams that much, I have tested a pretty cool Magnezone set. that can get rid of Excadrill (which is the one of the biggest threads for a mono electric), you'll use a Balloon Magnezone, but you have to be careful and make sure the foe's Excadrill will use Earthquake, then you use Magnet Rise, and start spamming HP Fire, it does a pretty decent job. Try it if you want to. And if not, change yours ability to Magnet Pull anyway. Magnezone @ Air Balloon Ability: Magnet Pull EVs: 128 SpA / 252 Spe / 128 Def Modest Nature - Flash Cannon - Hidden Power Fire - Thunderbolt - Magnet Rise Assault Vest Latias?! Is that a thing now?! :/ Edited June 23, 2015 by Vlado Vladimir
Reignited'Light
You have several solutions for your Mega Venusaur problem. You can replace Electivire or Rotom-Wash for Thundurus-I (imo replace electivire), which beats Mega Venusaur with Psychic. It also supports the team with Prankster Thunder Wave, which is always good. If you keep Rotom-Wash, I would use a more speed invested spread to beat Adamant Bisharp which can be a issue. I think Galvantula should go as well. You say Sticky Web, but I don't think it's that important for your team. Replace it with Raikou. (You have Defog, so you won't always have Sticky Web up anyway) Thundurus @ Life Orb Ability: Prankster EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Thunder Wave - Thunderbolt - Focus Blast - Psychic Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers Ability: Levitate EVs: 248 HP / 132 SpD / 128 Spe Calm Nature - Hydro Pump - Will-O-Wisp - Volt Switch - Pain Split Raikou @ Choice Specs Ability: Pressure EVs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Thunderbolt - Volt Switch - Hidden Power Ice - Shadow Ball I hope these changes are successful for you! I would just like to point out that you recommended Thundurus-I because it gets Psychic, but the set in the spoiler doesn't include Psychic O.o
Vlado Vladimir
Consider Superpower or Knock Off on Thundurus instead of Focus Blast, so Chansey doesn't completely wall your whole team once Electivire is down.
Reignited'Light
Ah whoops. I was on a phone, so I just copied Smogon's spread and saw Psychic, lol. Fixed You can also use this Rotom-W set to cripple chansey which can be a problem like Vlado said. Rotom-Wash @ Choice Scarf Ability: Levitate EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Timid Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Hydro Pump - Volt Switch - Will-O-Wisp - Trick
Xiri
Whoohoo lots of comments let's go! Magnezone @ Air Balloon Ability: Magnet Pull EVs: 128 SpA / 252 Spe / 128 Def Modest Nature - Flash Cannon - Hidden Power Fire - Thunderbolt - Magnet Rise Assault Vest Latias?! Is that a thing now?! :/ Turns out that I don't really hate Choice Scarf sets now since I feel I'm slightly better at utilizing them. Your Magnezone set does look cool though! I'll definitely try it out on another electric mono-team. And as for AV Latias... yeah I've only encountered it once - but it demolished my team (This was when I had a Raikou instead of Electivire, so I guess it was a reasonable loss) You have several solutions for your Mega Venusaur problem. You can replace Electivire or Rotom-Wash for Thundurus-I (imo replace electivire), which beats Mega Venusaur with Psychic. It also supports the team with Prankster Thunder Wave, which is always good. Wow I actually never thought of Thundurus and Psychic! That's actually quite a good solution. I'm really reluctant to get rid of Electivire though - because Earthquake has been helping me immensely with the common mono-fire teams. Nevertheless, I will try out Thundurus. Also, I've replaced Galvantula with your Raikou! Hopefully it will work out! As for Rotom-Wash, I didn't really face any problems with Bisharp to be honest - so I think I'll leave it for now. Thanks for all the input! Consider Superpower or Knock Off on Thundurus instead of Focus Blast, so Chansey doesn't completely wall your whole team once Electivire is down. Urgh yeah Chansey is a problem now! Knock Off is going in definitely!
