Another Felix
Log 1: The power of the mind We are the weak. While others use power to fight for dominance, we, the weak humans, those without power or special traits, still survive. Being weak forces us to adapt, to learn. They are the strong, we are the strong minded. The mind is our greatest asset. It enables us to learn, to live, and to thrive. A sharp claw is no match for a sharper intellect and cunning. Yet the mind does have its weakness: Fear. Fear lives in the heart of all, crippling those that would prosper and striking down those too weak to handle it. True strength comes not from the power one wields, but from how one faces the weakness of that power. I am referred to in most circles simply as Fresh, and am heading to a land called Reborn to prove the mettle of the mind and to overcome the unknown, a fear rooted deep in the human psyche. I intend to prove the power by only using those with the power of the mind, and those well known for instilling fear. The train I was on was destroyed, a bomb was placed within the station and made to explode as it pulled in. The manager, the white-haired one called Ame, was on the train explaining the region and the league to me. She likely would have continued had there been no issue. Miraculously, we both survived with only minor injuries. Others were not so lucky. I paid my respects to those who had lost their lives and then went to the Grand Hall, where all trainers start to prove themselves. It was at the Grand Hall where I met Victoria. A very sweet girl also looking to take on the Reborn league. A basic Fire, Water, and Grass Pokemon from the six regions with Gym leagues of their own were presented to me. Most of them were unremarkable, some simply being cute while others were... shall we say, less than desirable. But there was one who stood out from all the others; a peculiar orange creature with tufts of red fur in its ears. What stood out was its interaction when I looked at it. All the other Pokemon there jumped when I examined them, likely hoping that I would take them out and onto my journey. But this one simply stared at me... studied me. There was a strong mind with this one. It was then belayed that this Pokemon was a young female Fennekin. Sensing its will, I quickly took her and shall henceforth be referring to her as Lilith. As Victoria left with Ame to choose her own starter, a young man with a very unique hairstyle and mannerisms also came looking to register for the league, with his own starting Pokemon. He introduced himself as Cain, and eye contact creating the unspoken bond between trainers, we had a brief battle, Lilith versus his Nidoran. His Nidoran fought with the courage and savagery of most others. Lilith on the other hand, only confirmed my thoughts about her. She was very precise with her fire attacks, almost knowing exactly where to attack to hit. She was smart, there was no denying that. Lilith made quick work of Cain's pokemon. I would have offered to heal it myself, but the Pokemon Center was in the building as well. As he got his healed up, Ame and Victoria returned. Ame took Cain to register for the league and Victoria challenged me to a battle as well. I obliged and had Lilith go against her Tepig. This one was more work for her, as Tepig landed a few hits on her. But she showed resolve. Lilith took the hits and continued to attack it, regardless of how many times it charged. Lilith eventually won, but nearly collapsed. I immediately took her to the Center to heal. She was going to be an invaluable partner in the coming journey. Hello everybody, and thank you for checking this new run out. I know there were few people following my mono-electric run, but that got very linear and boring very quickly. Most Electric types provide the same roles up to the point I got to (Aya), so there was very little diversity when it came to moves, abilities, and strengths. It got very repetitive. This run is simply a duo Psychic and Ghost type run. Pretty standard rules: - Can only use Pokemon with Psychic or Ghost typing. As long as the Pokemon is at least partially one of those two, they are usable. - HM slaves are allowed, provided I give them the name "HM?" as I'm not sure if the Pokemon I can get can use some HMs, so Bidoof may be taken out of the box at times - I must nickname all of my Pokemon - Don't know if this applies to any Pokemon of these types, but I am allowed to catch Pokemon that can be traded for a Psychic or Ghost type as long as I do not level up the Pokemon to be traded Was also bored, so did somewhat of a story because why not? Will try to do some kind of inner monologue like the one above for each update/entry, as well as a summary of what happened in important battles and whatnot. After a lot of soft resetting, I finally got a female Fennekin with good IVs. Nature and ability are meh, but nothing too terrible. Lilith Nature: Serious (Works for the story, not great for battles, but at least it isn't detrimental) Ability: Blaze (Might change to Magician with a capsule, but not sure how useful it is against NPCs) IVs: 22 HP 13 Atk 19 Def 27 Sp. Atk (Her best) 19 Sp. Def 17 Speed Moves: Scratch, Tail Whip, Ember I mainly started this run so I could use the Fennekin and Ralts line again. Love those Pokemon. Another Felix
Log 2: "This poor city..." "What is wrong with this city?" were my initial thoughts as I left the Grand Hall to begin my journey. What lay before me was a festering cesspool of crime of toxicity. A cloud of smog covered the city and allowed very little sun to pass through. Street urchins and others begging for money, even trying to take it from me in battle. Lilith handled them all quite admirably, but this city is still in such a horrid state. Exploring the city, I eventually found the entrance to an old train system running beneath the city. It looked like it had been abandoned for years. The floor and walls were cracked an broken, and it even looked like some pieces of the ground above had caved in, providing very little light for the area. It was in that darkened underground when I felt the first test of my mind's strength. A light fluttering noise echoed throughout the tunnel, enough to make one's hair stand on end. A small swarm of Woobat dove from the ceiling and headed for me.. I and Lilith fended them off, and she got hurt in that ambush. Most of the Pokemon fled, and I was intending to take Lilith to the nearby Pokemon center as fast as possible. But one single Woobat from the swarm remained. It dove behind a rock and returned with a single Potion. I quickly healed up Lilith as it continued watching expectantly. It appeared to have a great deal of respect for me and her and seemed to want to follow us out of the cave. It graciously allowed me to catch it, and I named it Aero. I know not what kind of battler she will turn out to be, but any that can startle me are worthy of a chance to prove themselves. The people here are lowly thugs, some even belonging in prison. As I left the train tunnel, a loud cry ripped through the air. Three young hoodlums had cornered a Zigzagoon and were about to throw it off the bridge into the toxic water below. I quickly raced over there to save it. The boys claimed that I was interrupting their "fun" and that they were "just playing." They then challenged me to a battle, which proved to be a good test for Aero. Her moves tended to be more reckless than what I normally use, but what she lacked in grace she made up for in power. Aero and Lilith made quick work of their Pokemon. They ran away before I could call the police on them for Pokemon abuse. The Zigzagoon they were threatening to throw over ran up to me and seemed to plead with a helpless look in its eyes. I couldn't turn it away, but I could already tell it was not capable of any mental strength. I sent it to the PC storage system, where it will be cared for by professionals until I call on it. I may not train it or use it for fights, but every one is capable of doing something, and it may prove itself when the opportunity arises. As I started heading towards the first gym, a bum shambled over to me. He reeked of cheap alcohol and could barely finish a sentence. He mumbled something about the house down the alley and gave me a bag of PokeSnax. Why he had them when he had no Pokemon is a question for another day. But what he said about the house intrigued me. He pointed me down the alley towards the house, then promptly fell over, passed out from the drink. Carefully, I stepped over him and examined the house. It was falling a part, much like many other buildings in this city. The door was unlocked so I went inside, not expecting to find anything. Inside was a small Espurr, staring, unflinching, not moving. One could have even mistook it for a statue by how still and quiet it was. Nothing I did could break it from the trance-like state it was in. As I got up to leave, I heard a noise. It appeared that the Espurr was sniffing for something. Not really knowing what they were for, I took out one of the PokeSnax the bum had given and gave it to the young Pokemon. It snapped out of its trance when it saw the food. Cautiously, it took the food from me. Then it smiled. It started to follow me, and I could sense a very strong mind with this Pokemon. It knew who it could trust, and believed it could trust me. There was no way to betray that trust, so I caught it. A healthy male Espurr. Remembering people's horror stories of battling this Pokemon, especially when it evolved, I gave him a name of another adorable creature notoriously hard to fight. Seemingly perfect for him, he shall be known as Teemo. There was a note on the Gym Door, also the city's power plant, requesting the gym leader to go to one of the factories to the north of the city. Thinking this would be the best place to find her, I went to the larger of two factories in near the entrance to the Jasper ward. Along the way though, there were a few more trainers just looking for a battle. I did try using Teemo, but he proved not to be that powerful. But male Meowstic are known far and wide to mainly be more for supporting the rest of the team, so he will continue to train under me. Continuing along the path to the factory, there was another shady-looking character. He was trying to get attention from any passerby that he could, including me. As he approached, my initial thought was that he was either going to beg for money like many others here or challenge me to a battle. There was a sickly sweet smell surrounding him, one that reminded me of the time police came with Growrithe to my school and searched gym lockers. The poor track runner was arrested shortly after, but I digress. He had what looked like a pink balloon floating next to him and offered to give it to me, claiming that it was too much effort to raise. I was not sure what he was talking about until the balloon squealed, revealing it to be a Munna. In all good conscience, I could not leave it with someone who thought it was too much effort to train likely due to smoking some tall grass, so I agreed to take it. The man said her name was Shimmer, told me to keep her safe, and then quickly left. Shimmer looked quite upset, understandably so as she had just been handed off to me, some random trainer she never met. I swore to make good on my word and to train her, make sure she stays safe. I finally reached the large factory only to see the door locked and a green-clad youth mumbling to himself. No sign of the gym leader anywhere. I spoke to the boy standing there, and he introduced himself as The Swag Jockey Fern. And I am not making that up, he referred to himself as the Swag Jockey. It also sounded like his goal in life was to be as aggravating as possible. He quickly challenged me to a battle, and it appeared he only used Grass types. Lilith and Aero swept him easily. He then mentioned the other factory in the city and essentially told me to "F*** off" and challenge the gym leader. I may be one to try to control my mind as strongly as I can, and I'm not saying that I want him to be hit by a bus, but if he were hit by a bus, I would thank the driver. My next stop is the Electric Gym to hopefully challenge the leader, if she's had enough coffee to be awake. Oi, writing these takes longer than playing the game, but it's interesting to do. So yeah, most of the stuff is explained in the story above here, except for the part about Shimmer (Munna). I actually caught a Bidoof because I knew I could trade it for Munna, so I actually had to somewhat break my rule of not leveling up Pokemon to be traded, but I think this can be an exception because the dude wanted a Bibarel, but it wouldn't make much sense in the story. New team members ahead! Roll call! Aero Teemo Shimmer (I know Name Rater can change traded names, but not going to do that.) Thanks for reading the story, brought to you by my sponsors, Boredom and Insomnia.
Redo.
Seems this will be your team for a long while, mostly because a lot of catches together (So you can start swapping members if you grind'em all like I do) comes between Corey and Shade. Good luck I guess, at least your start is more solid than my mono and I can see both Fennekin and Swoobat being first team members for long. This is probably the first run that won't have any problem with Kiki.

But I agree on Lilith wrecking house, as well as Aero. Florinia may prove a greater challenge, but thankfully Desert field doesn't affect Fire moves. But Cradily will still be a pain in the ass to take down. I named mine Lilith too omg. Good luck with this monorun, it looks promising! Thanks man. Another Felix
Log 3: A Toxic Partnership After meeting with that most unpleasant being Fern, I decided my best course of action would be to check the Power Plant and see if Julia was there and ready to battle. She was leaving just as I was about to head in. She said that she was meeting a friend at the other factory in the city by the train tracks, and then extended the invitation. Seeing as this would be the fastest way to get her to battle me, I joined her. After blowing up the locked door (despite my offering to pick the lock), a new face and one face I would prefer never to encounter again showed up; Julia's friend Florinia, who spoke with a more monotone voice than Siri, and her brother, Fern. Why did it have to be Fern? The entrance to the factory smelled like a sewage plant. It appeared that this was the major source of pollution in the lake around the city. There was water that was dyed purple from the toxins being dumped, almost the same color as a Muk. In an effort to cover as much ground as possible, we decided to split up into pairs. Julia and Florinia went together, leaving me with Fern. I wonder if the toxins in the water are enough to dissolve a human body... The trek through the factory was grueling, fighting wave after wave of grunts. Apparently the organization that blew up the train station and was responsible for the poisoning of the lake is known as Team Meteor. An odd name for a group seemingly hellbent on ruining and killing the lives of innocents. Fern was still his normal self which made me want to shove his head in the machinery within the factory, but he at least proved himself competent enough to battle against these grunts. Fortune favored him though as the grunts we tore through their teams as they mostly consisted of weak rock types. This was also the first time I tested Shimmer's power in battle. She is strong. Very strong. She was able to both survive a lot of hits from the opponents, even the higher level admins, and able to deal quite a bit of damage. However, it seemed like she was... restricting herself, like she didn't trust herself enough to use her full power. It's somewhat understandable, not wishing to show her full strength with a trainer she doesn't trust. I must work with her, let her know that she's safe with me, in order to see what she is truly capable of. We eventually made it to the center of operations in the factory, with Julia nearly destroying the building in the process. Extreme levels of caffeine and explosives do not work well together. It turns out that a major head of Team Meteor was there, however he did not give his name. Julia and Florinia fought him, while Fern and I fought two Admins named Aster and Eclipse. They worked nearly in perfect sync with each other, so it is my assumption that they are a pair and have some kind of history together. We eventually beat their surprisingly powerful Elekid and Magby, but to the Meteor Head's dismay. It turns out their plan was to make the city uninhabitable by poisoning the water. People would then be forced to relocate, and the train station explosion was done to prevent any others from coming in. It seems their plan requires the city to be empty, but what that plan is remains unknown. After they retreated, Julia used some explosives that were in the factory to destroy it. Fortunately, no one was harmed. Unfortunately, Fern was unharmed. After this fiasco, there was finally time for Julia to battle me. Her gym puzzle was so simple it need not be called a puzzle at all. All that was needed was to lead Voltorb to gates and have them use Self-Destruct. This was required 4 times, each time requiring me to battle a trainer and wait about 5 minutes to get my hearing back. During the fourth trainer battle, Lilith evolved into a lovely Braixen. She still has the determined look in her eye she had when I first took her, but now there is also something else. She was constantly thinking. The look could really only be described as cunning. Again, I could tell she was smart when I first saw her, and do not regret doing so. Julia's battle took place on an electrified field. It felt as though there was static in the air, like it could combust at any second. Ironically for her though, it both messed up her hair and did not benefit her team in any way. Teemo, Shimmer, and Lilith all proved very useful in this fight. Aero had problems, but it's understandable due to her type. Next gym will be Florinia, the grass trainer, so she should be able to show her true power there. A big problem with her team was that there was very little diversity, which I suppose is a problem for Electric types. Most of her team relied on moves based off special attack, but none of them were particularly powerful. She opened with a Helioptile while I opened with Teemo. Knowing that most Electric types do special damage, Teemo set up Light Screen, which made some of her Pokemon do next to no damage on mine. Her team consisted of her Helioptile, two Voltorb, Emolga, Blitzle, and her ace, Electrode. Helioptile and Emolga were the only multi-type Pokemon on her team, so she proved not to be much of a challenge. Teemo's Screen, Shimmer's raw power and ability to take hits, and Lilith's power and cunning were just enough to take her out. Maybe if she thought more about her team composition, she'd fare better. Perhaps a Magnemite or a Joltik or a Chinchou, just something so she can actually prove to be a threat. And I was again proven right about Lilith's intelligence and ability to think on the spot. The battle came down to her versus Julia's Electrode. Lilith smiled as she missed her Ember attack, hitting the floor instead. Even I wasn't sure what she was planning to do. But as the ground heated up, Electrode started moving more erratically, seemingly in pain. It eventually started rolling directly at her. She ran into it using Flame Charge to knock it into the air and hit it with an Ember while airborne. The extreme static electricity the air combined with the fire caused Electrode to explode and then faint, thus scoring us the win. Lilith tried to get away, but was still knocked back by the force of the explosion. Fortunately I was able to catch her, getting knocked down in the process. She was a little banged up, but was still conscious, and she looked up at me with a smile that could only be taken to mean "thanks." Julia gave me the badge as well as the TM for Charge Beam. The special attack buff may prove useful, so I'll see if Teemo can make any use of it. The next open gym is over to the east of the Grand Hall, in the Obsidia Ward, where I will be going against Florinia unless something comes up. But first, there was an annual festival going on. Not exactly sure why, but it turns out Julia, who generally enjoys any kind of explosion, is also a skilled pyrotechnic, as she put on a rather lovely fireworks show. Thinking it would be a pleasant way to celebrate our victory over both Team Meteor and Julia, my team and I stayed and enjoyed the show. Or, most of us did. Teemo and Shimmer both seemed captivated by the fireworks, but poor Aero, she did not want to be let out of her Pokeball during it. She has very sensitive hearing, so I really can't say I blame her. Lilith was less interested in the show and seemed happier just to be with me outside of her Pokeball and not in battle. She's more than a partner to me; she's a very dear friend now. Another log done, dang these things take a while. All the major events from my playtime today are chronicled in my character's monologue above. I did embellish Lilith in the final battle a bit since that couldn't happen, but it makes it much more entertaining to both write and read I hope. Thanks for reading. No new team updates, but Lilith got upgraded and I couldn't be happier. I absolutely love the entire Fennekin line. Lilith I think she looks lovely. Anyone who says otherwise is both rude and wrong. And for anyone who forgets, there is a roll call in my signature of the team I'm using. Edited July 6, 2015 by Generalguy64
Another Felix
Log 4: Feeling boxed in My battle with Julia led me to gain some notoriety, as there were more trainers on the the bridge around the Grand Hall looking for a fight. Naturally, my partners were all able to handle them. Who would've thought a single badge would become that well known? My work at the factory also helped to prove our skill. Previously there had been two police officers preventing access to the Obsidia Ward in the East. Florinia, impressed by my efforts (although she showed no feeling about it), asked me to assist with the wild flora outbreak that was occurring. It seems that somehow, plants were growing rapidly throughout the ward, destroying streets, buildings, and any humans that lay in their path. This situation seems like it would be out of a B-list super hero movie, but it feels obvious that it is the work of Team Meteor. How this happened is still unclear to myself and Florinia. The rapid growth of the plants proved really harmful to the infrastructure of the land. According to Florinia, the source of the plant outbreak is in the park. However, the main road to it, as well as several buildings surrounding the road, was completely destroyed. Nothing remained but vines and a gaping hole into the old railnet. The only way through appeared to be through the slums to the south. Victoria met me there, although this hardly proved a surprise. She wanted to test me, make sure I would be able to safely traverse the sea of trash. As such, she challenged me to a battle. The poor girl. She has a good heart, but her team was all muscle, no brain. She stood no chance and was quickly taken care of, thus granting me passage into the a place no sane person would ever go. Whether I am brave, insane, or stupid is yet to be determined. And I had thought the Peridot Ward was disgusting and in shambles. This place made that ward look like Lumiose City. Nothing but bums, garbage, and Trubbish everywhere. I feel like one may need immunizations before going in there, it's that gross. Note to self: Frequently check pocket and wallet to make sure nothing goes missing. And frankly, it seems like 90% of the people in there were either high or drunk. And possibly very, very stupid. A box moved. Everyone down there lost their minds thinking the box moved on its own. Even though one could clearly hear it cry when someone approached it. NOPE! BOX CLEARLY MOVED ON ITS OWN! Pure genius. Anyway, after chasing whatever was hiding in the box, a Scraggy jumped out and ran away. It was just a simple Scraggy, plenty of other wild Pokemon down here. I only followed after it because there was no other way to get out of there. It led me right into an ambush though. Two more Scraggy, as well as a Scrafty, were lying in wait for me. They seemed to function as a gang, with Scrafty as the leader, and they challenged me to a battle. They actually proved themselves a challenge, with Scrafty belaying orders before joining the fight itself. It is kind of impressive how they were able to organize themselves. However, Aero and Shimmer took them out fairly quickly, Aero whipping up the winds and Shimmer powering up with Charge Beam. The Scrafty tore down the gate blocking the exit after being defeated, then quickly retreated. After finally escaping that garbage dump with paupers living in it, I realized that the scent of fresh air is one of the most beautiful things a man can experience. Two more police officers were preventing citizens from passing to the Obsidia ward to the north, so the only place for me to go and write this log was the Coral Ward to the south. Apparently a once proud port, this place was severely crippled when the lake became toxic. What I'll find here, I'm unsure, but I do hope I will be able to help cull the flora soon. A few notes before I close this log. I found a Moon Stone while traversing the slums. It seemed impossible that anything of any value could be there, but I suppose there is always something worthwhile even in the most remote locations. Anyway, I could evolve Shimmer with this, but I'm going to hold off doing so. I want her to trust me completely before I do anything as important as evolve her, especially with a stone. I also found an Egg down there. I don't know how it got there, what laid it, or what was protecting it, but it was there, in another pile of garbage. It is a pale blue color, so I assume it will hatch into a water type. But even if I don't train it, hatching it and sending it to a proper caretaker is the right thing to do. So finished the Slums. Didn't include the next part here because I haven't done it yet because I feel one major boss fight, in this case the Scrafty Squad, is enough for one log. And I won't be evolving Shimmer because she gets no moves as a Musharna.

Lv37 for Psychic (And Musharna preShade) or Lv47 for Stored Power (preSerra, also, for Stored Power to be better than Psychic you need at least 2 Calm Mind). IMO I don't think Munna can survive long enough for Stored Power, but it's your choice.

Another Felix
Log 5: Too much power The Coral Ward was a depressing sight. Nothing but broken ships, jobless sailors, and a clear view of the toxic lake. I met someone named Amaria down there, who is one of the highest ranking Reborn League Gym Leaders. She seemed nice enough, but I am looking forward to besting her in battle. She was down there trying to save an Oshawott, who was stranded on the island with the lighthouse. Coincidentally enough, Cain came by and heard about the Oshawott. He used his Grimer to cross the poisoned water and save it. Even though he is a poison trainer, he did decide to keep the Oshawott, and quickly challenged me to a battle to help it get accustomed to his team. We won easily. Amaria had been in the area to help clear the floral problem. She had only gone down to the Coral Ward upon hearing the stranded Pokemon's cries. I met up with her and Florinia at the entrance to the park whee the plant outbreak started. Florinia gave me the HM for Cut, which was fortunately modified from its original state so that Pokemon could forget the move without any help. The only members of my team who could learn it were Lilith and Teemo. I decided to teach it to Lilith and have her forget Howl, as that move was pretty useless on someone like her that rarely attacks physically. She seemed happy to be helping me as she cut down some small trees, allowing access to the park. Amaria and Florinia entered the park first, which proved to be a massive problem. They were quickly muffled and snared by wild vines. Inside the park was a large machine with a Tangrowth strapped inside and someone wearing a Meteor uniform. They introduced themselves as Zero, Eve, and Lumi, and called themselves ZEL. Multiple Personality Disorder, a rather interesting mental issue. They claimed that they and Team Meteor were the ones responsible for causing the plant outbreak. The machine was called a PULSE and it amplified the Tangrowth's natural power. As both the gym leaders were unable to battle and the useless police force wasn't showing up, it was up to me to battle that creature and stop this pointless attack. ZEL sent out the Tangrowth immediately to battle. It somehow mutated due to the machine, becoming twice as large with more vines covering it that one could possibly keep track of. Knowing it to be a Grass type, I sent out Aero first. Although her Gust attack was powerful, it still felt like she was hitting a brick wall. She was able to dodge most of the attacks from it, and fortunately resisted the few that did. What truly shocked me with how she fought this was by diving straight at it, jaw first. This Heart Stamp seemed to cause more visible pain to the Tangrowth as a few of the vines withered and fell off. Somehow, the machine also made it a Poison type. That actually worked to my benefit. Aero did unfortunately go down to a Mega Drain, so I sent out Lilith to finish it. She started by using Ember, hoping to burn it. Unfortunately, it shrugged the flames off with little trouble. Frustrated, but not defeated, Lilith showed off a move I hadn't even been aware she learned. Her eyes glowed blue as she fired a beam made of multi-colored rings at the hulking beast. I knew she had a strong mind and will, but to master Psybeam when not being a Psychic type is an impressive feat. The lumbering monster became confused from the beam. It stumbled over some new vines that had sprouted and fell to the floor, knocking itself unconscious and reverting back to its normal state. ZEL released the Tangrowth from the machine and quickly retreated before I could do anything to them. The overgrowth of plants quickly receded, including the vines ensnaring Florinia and Titania. With the plant outbreak taken care of, Amaria left for the Grand Hall and Florinia for her gym, where she would be waiting for me. It may make me a bad person, but I enjoy beating gym leaders, and I believe in my team and that their ready for her. Short update today, wanted to get something done. Beat the first PULSE, on my way to the second gym. Thanks again for reading.
Another Felix
Log 6: Taking care of the day care I may be here to prove the power of the mind and thus should have strong willpower and be very goal-oriented, but I can't turn a blind eye to those in need. With the forestation cleared, I continued exploring the ward, seeing if there was anyone else in any danger or trouble. Someone told me about the Day Care couple, who normally took in Pokemon and raised them for trainers. I've heard stories about some unscrupulous trainers using the day care as a way to forcibly breed Pokemon for better moves and stats, but that seems to go against any sense of human decency. But currently the Day Care couple was accepting Pokemon, but wasn't returning them. This sounded highly suspicious and quite obvious, so I took the time out to go pester them. They seemed like a normal old couple at first glance, but that guise was quickly shattered as they seemed to recognize me. They grew visibly frustrated as I wouldn't leave, and eventually revealed themselves to be members of Team Meteor who I had beaten at the Peridot Factory. What a surprise. I did enjoy their brief introduction though. We beat them again and they told me their plan was to impersonate the couple so they could steal the Pokemon of trainers. Seeing as how they've already flat-out stolen Pokemon from trainers, why the ruse? They said they hid the couple in a warehouse, but they had hidden the key someplace else and quickly fled. Aero jumped out of her Pokeball upon hearing this and began sniffing the area. She had me follow her nose to a small house inside the park, where the key was stashed. She may not be able to see, but her nose is quite the efficient sightseer and pathfinder. The only warehouses I knew of were in the Coral Ward, so I took the key and went to see if I could find them. While walking down there, a wild Spoink began bounding around the area, including on top of my head for some reason. Weird Pokemon, but there was a lot of Psychic power coming from it, especially the pearl on its head. Before I could catch it, it bounced away down south. I continued down there, hoping to both save the Day Care couple and catch that Spoink. There were multiple warehouses in the ward the key worked on. The first one opened had the Day Care couple. They told me that they learned what the Meteors were doing when they kidnapped them. It was also done to prevent them from allowing Pokemon to breed. Wait, they actually allow the forced breeding to occur? Ugh, maybe I shouldn't have intervened. They told me that they would be glad to take care of any Pokemon I wished. There is absolutely no way I'd ever even think of putting my partners in their care. Another warehouse was full of cages. There was a single Meteor grunt in there, saying, yet again, that they were transporting the stolen Pokemon from the day care scam. He ran quickly, muttering one about him missing one. The place was completely cleaned out of Pokemon, so they must have already sent them away. As I was about to leave, I heard a small whimper. It came from a Happiny that had hidden behind some crates and was looking for an opportunity to escape. I took it with me and put it in the PC to be cared for by the Professor since it didn't fit the requirements for my team. Hopefully I'll be able to find its original owner, otherwise I'm sure my sister would love to have it. There was only one other warehouse the key opened. This one was just full of empty boxes. I heard a noise when I entered the building, so I checked behind some of the boxes in there. The Spoink from earlier jumped out as I examined one. It seemed like it was just having fun and had landed on my head to see if I would play with it. Apparently the game was hide & seek. It bounced over to me and landed on my head yet again, but this time stayed still as I threw a Pokeball at it. Spoink stayed in with no resistance. So it wanted to come with me... cool. Probably hoping that whatever adventure I'm going on will be fun to partake in. I named her Slink and am looking forward to using her in battle. Short one today. Going to do the Trainer School & Gym in the next log. Slink I know Spoink/Grumpig aren't great, but it's better to have a full team than to not. Therrester
I really enjoy the style you have going with these logs. Feels like I'm reading a diary and each entry is written in a cheerful manner, which is refreshing with all the chaos going on in Reborn. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on your future entries. Best of luck with Florinia and the rest of your run!
Another Felix
Log 7: What are they teaching? Florinia's gym turned out to be located within a school in the Onyx Ward. A Trainer's School. Something I've always wondered about schools like these; what's the point? Yes, they teach you about battling, but battling also teaches about battling. And what exactly is this preparing someone for? Is "Professional Pokemon Trainer" that profitable? I'm doing this journey to prove myself, not make a career out of it. I went into the gym entrance and was met with the most unpleasant sight. Fern. Not the plant, as those are lovely when taken proper care of. No, the self-proclaimed Swag Jockey was there too. He called me a loser despite being a significantly worse trainer than I and said I was unworthy of challenging his sister. She probably stopped giving a damn about this runt years ago. He locked me out of the gym entrance, so I had to go through the school. Most of the students there battled me, saying they were under orders from Fern to defeat me. Like the child with the wealthy parents, he's likely only able to have that much power since his sister is the gym leader. Oh well, free training and experience for my team. There were two trials to get into Florinia's battle arena. The first was what the students referred to as "The Gauntlet." Such a menacing name for what equated to a few battles and quiz questions about Pokemon. There were a few computer screens which bore questions that I needed to answer in order to unlock the door. There were many books in shelves located throughout the school that contained the answers to the questions needed. Reading the books and memorizing the answers was the only way to proceed since my phone couldn't get a signal to access Bulbapedia. Teemo actually proved to be quite the research assistant though. We gathered all the books we would need, and it turns out he's a speed reader. He quickly found the answers to a few of the questions while I found the rest. Some Pokemon can read apparently. I'm still glad they seem to like us enough to not overthrow humanity and destroy all who lay in their path. The second trial was both easier and harder than the quiz. Easier because it was just a battle, harder because I had to battle Fern. That resentful pain in my rear stood no challenge. Lilith and Aero once again beat him with no trouble. Although it was a useful battle, as Lilith, using her innate Psychic power combined with her Ember attack and other Fire powers, learned Fire Spin to trap and hurt Fern's team. and Aero grew stronger too, her Gust move becoming the significantly more powerful Air Cutter. Fern fell quickly, then claimed I was still worse than him and that if I could do it, then he could do the League challenge better. He then left to go start his own journey. Good, hopefully I'll see less of him. The gym battle took place in a large lecture hall before a mass of students. She apparently uses her own battles to teach the students about preparedness. Florinia's nickname was the Desert Rose, so instead of trying to have a Grass team based around sun, she based hers around sand. It's odd. Most Grass types don't gain any significant benefit from a Sandstorm. But than again, if she had a Sun team, her weakness to fire would only be compounded. She lead with her Maractus. Knowing it to have many similarities to a normal cactus plant, I sent out Aero to try and beat it from a distance. Air Cutter really did prove damaging on her team, especially Maractus. It hurt so bad that Florinia actually used both Super Potions she had on it. But it wasn't enough to save it from Aero. Her next Pokemon was a Ferroseed. I can see how this Pokemon would be good in a sand-based team, but it still fell very quickly to Lilith's Fire Spin. Breloom came out next, but I sent out Shimmer instead of Aero. I actually spent some time with Shimmer to heal up Aero, but it proved unnecessary as Shimmer took care of Breloom quite admirably. Her Cacnea however, proved to be a greater danger. Its Pin Missile move became stronger within the Sandstorm, and it took out Shimmer quickly. Lilith sealed the deal though. Her final Pokemon was her ace, Cradily. That thing proved to be a massive threat, nearly knocking out the rest of my team. This was her only Pokemon that was actually able to whip up a sandstorm, so building her team around that weather didn't really prove effective. Unfortunately, it took down both Slink and Teemo before they could do much, but Teemo did use Covet to swipe its item, which helped us (I returned it after the fight.) Aero went out again and got very lucky. She got a Psybeam off which confused it and caused it to miss some attacks. Aero was able to capitalize off this by landing another Psybeam which significantly hurt it, but was then taken down by a rock from Cradily's Smack Down. Lilith was my last teammate remaining, so I sent her out even though she was at a type disadvantage. She took some damage from the sandstorm. She actually tried something risky and tried to use Fire Spin to block the rocks. It slowed the rock down, but it still hit her pretty hard. Cradily used Sandstorm again to heavily stir the field up. Lilith blind fired her Psybeam into the center of it, which hit something and caused a massive dust cloud to form. Both Florinia and I shielded our eyes from the burst. When the dust finally settled, her Cradily was unconscious and Lilith was barely standing with a very proud look on her face. The referee declared me the winner, and the audience was stunned. Then they started clapping. Their teacher had just been defeated. Florinia acknowledged her defeat and gave me the Canopy badge, as well as the TM for Nature Power. She then asked one thing of me: To head to the Jasper and Beryl wards. They had both been taken over by the same floral infestation as Obsidia, and I had the most experience dealing with them and Team Meteor. There is also apparently a gym there, so that is to be my next stop. Actually got incredibly lucky and beat Florinia on my first attempt. Next stop, Jasper ward. Another Felix
Log 8: Le Jasp! The Jasper Ward was in significantly worse shape than the Obsidia Ward. Where there were plants and cracks just starting to form there, here there were vines wrapping around buildings, giant trees sprouting in the middle of the streets, and entire buildings decimated. It was definitely the work of Team Meteor. If there had been any doubt in my mind, it was dispelled as I saw and battled a Meteor grunt in the area. The first thing seen in the ward, other than the untold destruction, was the Reborn City Police Department. Although they proved useless in the previous incident, I thought they would have at least some kind of information, or at the very least could tell me when this attack began. Only the Police Chief and a single Growlithe were inside. He said that there were five missing police officers, all lost after being sent out into the Jasper and Beryl Wards. As I needed to go through there anyway, I agreed to let him know if I found them, either dead or alive. I sincerely hope I can find them before it's too late. A jungle lay before me within the Jasper Ward. It had apparently been a normal park before this meteor strike. But now, vines and more trees were sprouting everywhere. There were also a lot of rocks, likely debris from the destroyed buildings, strewn throughout. Again, more Meteor goons were lining the paths, so we battled them. Unfortunately, none of them had any new information. I did find something of interest in a building outside of the jungle though. A police officer was trapped by a Meteor grunt inside a building. After beating him, the officer thanked me and said he was heading back to the station. This really only confirmed my belief that the police here are utterly useless. Seriously, unable to take down a single low-level grunt? I mean, I wouldn't wish any harm on the police officers, but that's just really sad. There was also another building that was still structurally sound. A woman shouted at me as I walked past towards the jungle. She was trapped on an upper floor, but the plants had destroyed the stairs and knocked out the power. I told her to remain calm and promised that if I found a way to get her down or restore the power, I'd come back for her. It's what a gentleman does. Back in the jungle, there was another PULSE machine, again with a Tangrowth inside. This time though, it was not ZEL who met me, but someone named Taka. He said that the machine amplifies the Pokemon's power and changes them, but if one is left in one too long, it can seriously harm the Pokemon. He expressed his desire to turn off the machine and to release the Tangrowth, but said he was unable to as he was part of Team Meteor. So he challenged me to a battle. His Lileep and Chatot proved bigger threats than the Tangrowth, but we were still able to handle them quite efficiently. Tangrowth reverted back to its unmutated form and quickly fled to avoid being imprisoned again. Taka seemed grateful that I was able to free the Tangrowth though. He seemed very passive throughout our confrontation, if you can even call it that. It was almost as if he wanted me to defeat him and stop Meteor's activities. His last words before retreated echoed Florinia, saying there was another PULSE in the Beryl Ward beyond here. It appears that truly is my next stop, provided nothing else stands in my way. As I was leaving the jungle, a young girl, no older than 10 or so, came by. She claimed that she sneaked away from her overbearing father to stop the "bad guys" as she called the Meteors. I explained that I had already taken care of them in the area, and she yelled at me, saying that she wanted to be the one to stop them and warning me to stay away from the Beryl Ward until she took care of it. *sigh* Everyone wants to be a hero. I have no intention of letting her get hurt, so I let her know I will be heading there, regardless of what she says. She then said some things that no 10 year-old should know and that I'm not willing to repeat here, and took off on a Salamence. A rude 10 year-old has a Salamence. I know Psychic and Ghost types are the most intelligent, and therefore the only ones I will be training here, but I can't help but be a little jealous. And to end things on a more positive note, I went back to the building where the woman was trapped. Now that the vines weren't entangling anything, I had Shimmer use Charge Beam to power up the elevator enough so I could get to her floor and get her out. She thanked me for the rescue by giving me a sticker to access a new floor of the Department Store in Obsidia. Fortunately for her, she had a friend who was willing to give her housing outside of the ward until the area gets repaired. I told her I was glad to help and went to the Pokemon Center for a brief respite. The next challenge will be the Beryl Ward's Tangrowth, and possibly whoever the gym leader is there. Haven't uploaded in a while, wanted to get another part done. Chatot tho... Anyway, will try to do the final Tangrowth and Corey sometime tomorrow, Friday, or Saturday, depending on when I have time. I'm not going to save all the Police Officers until after I beat Corey, as I did that on my main run and want to see how the story progresses with that. I know I get an easier fight against Corey since Corrosive Mist field won't be in play. Edited August 15, 2015 by Generalguy64
Another Felix
Log 9: A PULSE... a grave. The Beryl Ward was a short distance away from the Jasper ward, but the main area of it was blocked off by a multitude of vines. I first went east, along the Beryl Bridge. A vast desert could be seen to the north, while the Lapis Ward, to the north of the Grand Hall, could be seen to the south. Across the bridge was what was apparently the old power plant, now abandoned. There was a sign saying it was a gym as well. What is with this region and using power plants as gyms? I get that it saves space, but does no one think that could be dangerous? A stray attack could put the entire plant out of commission and cause the entire city to lose power. It was locked though, so I went back across the bridge, into the forest called the Rhodocrine Jungle. Another jungle to explore, likely another PULSE Tangrowth to free. One thing I noticed about the area was that even without any Meteor intervention, it was already a dense forest. Walking along through the mess of trees and vines, there was a very odd cluster of grass, leaves, and sticks in a large circle on the ground. It looked like it was trying to conceal something. It didn't take a powerful mind to realize what it was; all it took was seeing at least one cliche survivor movie or TV Show. I was going to walk around the pitfall, but was suddenly pushed from behind, causing me to stumble directly into the cluster, thus revealing it to be, surprise surprise, a pitfall. I landed on my back, so fortunately I remained mostly unharmed, but did fall unconscious for a brief period. My last thought before blacking out was that my Pokeballs might be damaged, which could prove disastrous for my team. I came to a short while later, but now I was in a cage. Two Nuzleaf were standing outside it and used a switch to close the gate, sadly trapping me here. The cage was enclosed at the top and the bars were too small for me or my Pokemon to get through. Hold it! My Pokemon! I checked the balls immediately. There was no damage to any of them, praise the sun. After about 5 minutes in the cage, there was some rustling and noise coming from the forest. Unfortunately, it was Fern. He said he came up here to battle the gym leader and all he found was a "scrub in a cage." And he still can't beat me in a battle. He offered to pull the switch and let me out, but only if I got on my knees and begged. Firstly, I didn't believe that he actually would let me out. Secondly, I have this foolish thing called pride, which wouldn't let me beg, especially not to him. Knowing my options were either beg or wait for something else to come along and free me, I did the foolish thing and refused. He said that I could rot in there for all he cared and quickly left. Being stuck in a cage is still better than speaking to him. I tried thinking of every option to get out of that cage. It was quite well built, so breaking it or having my Pokemon break it wouldn't work. In fact, I thought Shimmer would be able to blow it apart with her Psychic powers, but was unable. She did seem to trust me now though, so I gave her the Moon Stone I had been keeping. Even with the power boost, she was still unable to break the cage. Apparently those Nuzleaf were craftier than previously thought. Even thought about having Lilith burn it, but that could've set fire to the entire jungle, proving very dangerous to any wild Pokemon that lived here, and myself and my team wouldn't be immune to the fire. As I continued pondering my situation, a familiar face, one far less irritating than that of Fern, showed up. A Chatot walked up and pulled the switch to open the gate. It said "Release Fresh" and then hopped away. If I'm not mistaken, that was Taka's Chatot. That means he's here and is actually looking out for me. Continuing through the forest, I found the rest of the missing police officers, who I told to immediately to head back to the station. If they couldn't handle themselves before, then they would just be a hindrance to me. One of the biggest buildings that was still standing was the Beryl Library. Hoping to find something of value, I went in and was greeted by a survivor of the plant attack. He offered to share some of his supplies with me, which was a very generous offer. I accepted and rested for a bit in the library before continuing. While in the library, I found a Growlithe, marked with a small police badge. It was staring deeply into a hole in the floor of the library. Taking a look, there was the body of a police officer. It was a truly horrifying sight, him being crushed by a bookcase that had fallen. The Growlithe looked upset, so that cop must have been the partner. I told it to go back to the police station, as hopefully the Chief would understand that one of their own passed. It was dark by the time I left the library to continue. I eventually found the PULSE, again a Tangrowth. Taka, ZEL, and another Meteor member were there to defend it. As we were about to battle, the young, brash, pink-haired girl with the Salamence from the Jasper ward showed up to try and stop the PULSE. It turns out her name is Heather and that she is the daughter of the Beryl Ward gym leader. But surprisingly, it was the other Meteor goon there who knew about her. He took her on in a battle, leaving ZEL and Taka to me. A double battle against both of them using their own Pokemon proved to be far more challenging than I was anticipating. ZEL only used the PULSE Tangrowth last time, but this time they used their own team of Glaceon, Espeon, and Umbreon. Those three hit hard and were hard to take down. Taka used his Lileep and Chatot, who was definitely the one who saved me from the cage, and the Tangrowth. After some intense battling that actually saw both Aero and Teemo evolve into Swoobat and Meowstic respectively, we were able to take them both down. Those two retreated shortly after I beat them, while Heather was still using her Salamence to battle the last guy's Crobat. Shouldn't that have been a very one-sided fight in Salamence's favor? It is significantly more powerful, and could possibly Mega Evolve if she has the stone. Anyway, the Meteor ran from the fight and got away before we could catch up. Heather then spoke to me, saying she was tired of how controlling her dad was and that she was going to fly away eventually. I really didn't know anything to say to her for that, so I just went to the gym to battle her father. There was something to the west of the gym that drew my attention before I went in. A small cemetery laid there on the mountainside. There were a few Police Officers there with a gravestone erected to the fallen man. I paid my respects and continued onward. A single grave stood out to me from the end of the graveyard. It radiated some kind of dark aura. The name on the tombstone read Shadowkeeper, and as I read that word, a Shuppet jumped out at me. Knowing it could be a very powerful ghost type, I quickly had Slink do battle with it and caught it. Because it came from the grave, I named it Keeper. Hopefully it will grow more powerful as it travels with me. After all was said and done, I finally went to the gym. The leader, Corey, was not at the arena, so I had to head back out. There were a few strange machines in the lobby of the gym. After playing around with them for a bit, a secret room opened up. Knowing full well that I was invading his privacy, I entered and spoke to Corey. He said that he knew that I knew his daughter, and then said that he would be waiting for me to battle him. This battle should not prove that difficult, as he's a Poison trainer. Boy, was I misled. Our battle took place on some kind of bizarre field. It was mostly grassy, but it was looked like it was poisoned and dying. Corey described it as a Corrosive field, which would increase the power of all his poison attacks. He made this field to perfectly complement his team. He started with his Skrelp, and I started with Shimmer. Evolving into Musharna made her insanely strong, even if she won't learn the move Psychic in this state. But that likely won't prove a problem to her with her power. She managed to make herself stronger while taking down Skrelp with Charge Beam. His next Pokemon was Croagunk. Knowing it to know a few fast dark type moves, Shimmer put it to sleep with Yawn and healed herself with Moonlight, which was powered up due to the time quickly approaching midnight. Her Psybeam made quick work of the frog. Skuntank was next, and Shimmer put it to sleep again, taking it out with Charge Beam and getting stronger with each blast. Corey's Nidorina and Grimer were both taken down by a single powered-up Psybeam each. It was looking like she was going to be able to sweep his entire team. That is, until he used his ace, Crobat. Ordinarily, it wouldn't have been a problem as Shimmer had taken very little damage and can usually survive a few hits. But this is where his field really came into play. The move Venoshock greatly increases in power against Poisoned targets. But because of the corroded field, the move was far more powerful than normal. In fact, the move was so powerful that it nearly swept my entire team. A single Pokemon was able to almost turn the entire tide of the battle. However, I had one Pokemon who was able to finish the job. Ordinarily Lilith is my ace and my finisher, but even she was taken down. She seemed angry with herself for not being able to last longer, but it's OK. She can't always do everything, and that's fully understandable against something as stacked against us as this. No, this time, it was Slink who landed the finishing blow. Corey's Crobat missed its attacks against the constantly bouncing target. Her erratic movements disoriented it, which let her unleash her own powerful Psybeam to finish the bat and win the battle. As he was about to give me the badge, Heather walked in. She announced she was leaving, running away. Corey told her not to, but knew there was nothing he could do to stop her. It was a heartbreaking moment. After she left, Corey told me to meet him at the bridge if I wanted to see "a show." Fearing what could happen, and still not having received my badge, I followed after him. As I left the gym, I heard a loud cry from the roof of the gym. It was an Absol, the Disaster Pokemon. Realizing those frequently show up when something terrible is about to happen, I rushed to the Beryl Bridge to meet Corey. I got there just as he was releasing his Pokemon, saying he no longer needed them. He then told me his story, how he lost his wife during childbirth, how he raised Heather to believe hope is for the weak and that life is cruel as a way to spare her the torment he suffered. He asked me to watch over her since he was no longer fit to be her father, saying she would be targeted for her ruby ring. Then he jumped. Time seemed to slow as he fell. Thinking I could somehow save him, I sent out both Aero and Shimmer in the hopes that they could fly down and catch him, but it was not to be. By the time they were out, it was already too late. It was a sound I'll never forget, something akin to a large fruit or pumpkin being thrown against the pavement. There was only thing that could make the shock of seeing someone just jump off a bridge to their death be worse, and that one thing just so happened to show up. Fern said that he came up here to challenge him for a badge. He had absolutely no remorse for the situation since he never met the guy, and that it was just "natural selection." As I was debating throwing him off the bridge as well, the ground shook and a loud explosion rang out. Smoke could be seen coming from the Grand Stairway by the Opal ward. It sounded like a bomb had gone off. It looks like that is to be my next destination. Long one today. Got really lucky as Crobat went down to a random Critical hit. Much easier than the Corrosive Mist field. Team Update Time! Teemo Shimmer Aero And the newest member of my team, the first Ghost available... Keeper He needs more training. Another Felix
Log 10: Studying the team This will be a rather short entry into my log. I'm still en route to the explosion at the grand stairway, as well as the Lapis ward to find Corey's corpse and see what's happening with that, but some other interesting events have happened. I went back to the Beryl Library to find the other survivor there and get him to safety now that the plants were gone. Instead of another person though, I found a Gothitelle and her two children, both young Gothita. She spoke to me using her telepathic powers, saying that they had lived in the library for years, but saying that it was not suitable for them in the current state. She asked me to help clean up the debris from the fallout. It's a curse, being unable to turn a blind eye to those in need, so I helped them out by clearing some of the books and other trash that had been knocked around. For my services, she gave me something called a "Soul Candle." It burns with some kind of spectral energy, but I'm not really sure what it does. I'll hold onto it until I find a use for it. As I was about to leave the library, one of the Gothita ran up to me. It sounded like it wanted me to take it on my journey. After seeing the psychic power of Gothitelle, I was tempted to take him, but not before getting her permission to take her child. She said it would be fine and a good experience for him to grow with me, so she gave us her blessing and he joined my team, so I named him Beryl for the location. Unfortunately, this means I have more than 6 Pokemon, which means one of them needs to be left in the box so a professor can take care of them. Although she did finish the last battle quite admirably, Slink was just too random and unreliable and I feared she would not grow out of that habit. I left her with the professor, but I may one day come back for her. There was one other location I had to visit before continuing: The Police Station in the Jasper Ward. I wanted to make sure all of the cops made it back safely. Indeed they did, and as thanks for finding them all, the police chief gave me the Growlithe of the officer who passed away. It was a sweet thought, but I sadly can't train it, and it would be disrespectful to the deceased if I just placed it in the box. Fortunately (well, unfortunate form him), one of the police officers had his Growlithe stolen by Team Meteor, because they are that incompetent, and wanted a new one to train. I was willing to give him the one the chief gave me, and he thanked me for it by giving me a Pokemon Egg. He didn't know what was going to hatch from it, but he was very grateful for his new partner. After walking around and battling a few more trainers, the egg hatched. I was quite surprised to see a baby Phantump come from the egg, and an off-color, or shiny as some people call it, one no less. Wait, the Pokedex says that Phantump is possessed by the spirit of a dead child. Did.. did a child just die when this hatched? Ugh, Pokemon can be very bizarre sometimes. Anyway, I named him Groot and am looking forward to using him on my team, although that does leave me with another dilemma, in that I would need to put someone in the box again. I didn't want to put Teemo or Aero in it as they have very good synergy with each other, and Teemo fills a defensive role on my team not many have while Aero provides some very good coverage. I can't put Beryl in there as I promised to help him grow. Lilith was my first Pokemon, so even I built an attachment to her and want to keep her with me throughout my journey. Keeper needs more training before he can become a true powerhouse. So the only one left I can put in the box, even though she nearly swept Corey, is sadly Shimmer. She can become very powerful, but perhaps she will fight by my side again some other day. She seemed like she'd be forgiving if I did this though, so I'm grateful to her for that and for her service. So Shimmer, thank you. You've been invaluable to the team. OK, short one today just to set the story for the new team members without making the next log where I actually do stuff super long. Team balance is incredibly hard now due to actually having a character invested, rather than just being another player character who will change their team whenever necessary. Damn, I feel like a jerk putting Shimmer and to a lesser extent, Slink, who would've been replaced no matter what in the box. Team Update Lilith Level 28 Aero Level 28 Teemo Level 27 Keeper Level 23 New Members! Beryl Level 25 Groot Level 1 (just hatched thanks to Chubb) While I like Phantump and Trevenant, I'm mostly using him to get Destiny Bond to kill Garchomp. I didn't do it on my regular run and want to do so here. Many thanks for their service and I hope to use you again Shimmer Slink And thanks to anyone who is following along with the story of my writing. If you like it, comment or something. Another Felix
Log 11: The heart of Reborn After leaving through the Jasper Ward with my new team member in tow, I immediately rushed to the Grand Stairway. It was to the north of the Grand Hall. A large crowd had gathered there, all seeking answers as to what happened. The Grand Stairway had a massive hole in it and appeared to only be further breaking apart. The police who gathered there as well recognized me and let me through. However, my primary goal was not to inspect the explosion. I was simply passing through to the Lapis Ward to find Corey's body. The Lapis Ward really stood out from the rest of the city. This seemed to be the wealthiest area, although why anyone would even try to raise a family here is beyond me. The Beryl Bridge was to the north of the ward, so I headed there quickly. A large building stood in the center of the ward, with the sign out front calling it an orphanage. Yet the way it's designed really reminds me of a hospital. As I went towards the north end, I saw a woman standing out in front of it. She mumbled something about "Revenge" and "The Doctor." Was she trying to take revenge on the fact that there was someone new playing him? Not my problem here, and not something I want to get involved with. Lapis Library & Gym. That's what the sign read from what I could see, but a very large crowd of people had gathered. There was one recognizable face in the crowd, and it was one I was rather glad to see. Victoria saw me and called me over. Yes, Corey's body had landed behind the gym. It was a rather gruesome scene that I do not wish to describe or even recall. Blood is sadly one of the few things I fear and am nauseated by. It may be something I'm looking to overcome, but not something I wish to see happen again. Victoria was trying to comfort a young girl who saw his death. She was clearly shocked, seeing something as horrific as this. Her name was Shelly and as it turns out, she is the Lapis Gym Leader. But now is not the time for a challenge. She said she knew the man who died as Heather's father, as they are close friends. There had been a lot going on lately, with Corey's death and the explosion at the stairs. Shelly said she needed to be left alone for a bit, so Victoria and I decided to check out what was happening there. The police let us through again. I'm not an expert on demolitions, but there was no debris in the surrounding area. Seems like the bomb was somehow placed underneath the stairs so that when it was detonated, the debris collapsed down into itself. The police set up a ladder to the bottom and gave us permission to enter. Victoria went down first and I followed quickly after. Somehow, unbeknownst to most citizens of the city, a large network of caves lay under the ground. And I was correct in assuming that Team Meteor was involved, as the two admins from the factory, Aster & Eclipse, were there and had taken Victoria hostage. They said that I would need to follow them if I wanted to save her. It truly was a maze of caverns down there. Although I didn't find anything too interesting, mostly just a few wild Pokemon but none I was looking to catch, I did find some cave explorers and someone training down there. He gave me the HM for Rock Smash, saying it would help me train myself as well. Not really sure how, but thanks anyway. I eventually found my way to the bottom of the cave systems where they said they would be waiting. The first person I saw there though was someone I had never seen before. He simply spoke to me, said the city was filth and that it needed to be gotten rid of. There was a large door engraved with some weird runes which he seemed fixated on. Ruby, the seal of pain. Saphire, the seal of love, Emerald, the seal of faith, and Amethyst, the seal of the beyond. As he spoke those words, one of the runes lit up. Those are the the principles of reborn. I don't really know what he was talking about, or why he was telling me. Somehow, he saw it that it would be better if I knew, if everyone knew. I still wasn't sure what I was supposed to know, but he left without saying anything else. Aster and Eclipse were also waiting down there for me, with Victoria trapped behind them. She and I teamed up and took them on. It was a pretty straightforward battle, although there Magby and Elekid evolved since we last fought. Otherwise, it was just a normal fight, with the two of us coming out on top. They fled after they lost. Victoria explained that whoever that man was, he only spoke to her as well. After making sure she was okay, we left the caves and made our way back to Shelly to make sure she was still okay. We got back there and she was still in shock over what she saw. There was apparently a well-known psychiatrist in the ward, so Victoria asked me to find him in the hope that he would be able to help her in some way. I agreed to go find him to help the poor girl. One final note before I close this log, I apparently joined a street gang. Some thugs approached me, looking to mug me as I was trying to find the doctor. They challenged me to a battle, which we won with no trouble. They then took me into an alley and had their boss meet me. Said they called themselves Team Aqua, and that I was now an honorary member. Don't really know if I want to be considered liked by these people, but I suppose they may somehow be useful eventually. FINALLY entered another log here. Don't know if anyone reads this, but thanks for reading if you do. Edited August 21, 2015 by Generalguy64
Another Felix
Log 12: Caught the bug After that little Aqua escapade was over, I learned from the leader that the psychiatrist also runs the orphanage in the heart of the Lapis Ward. As I was about to enter the building, a meek pink-haired lady about a few years younger than me was exiting. She made herself scarce very quickly. No matter. I went in seeking the doctor, but instead I was met by multiple children, some of whom seemed quite "out of it." The first to introduce herself was a girl tightly clutching a Jirachi plush doll. She introduced herself as Anna, her doll as Nostra, and said that I was glowing. Haven't been exposed to radiation, so I don't know what she was seeing. Her twin brother was also being kept at the orphanage, a young, aloof boy named Noel. He was holding a Clefairy doll he called Nomos. Anna kept trying to say that Nostra and Nomos weren't dolls, but they were so. There was one other girl in there who introduced herself, Charlotte. She had a similar look in her eyes that Lilith has, one always planning. Coincidentally enough, Noel and Charlotte are gym leaders. They told me just what kind of person the Doctor was and what he did to them. It turns out that he uses multiple electric type Pokemon for a special "treatment" for the mental illnesses of the children called Electro-shock therapy. All three of them confirmed it, so there was definitely something going on (likely without the knowledge of the useless Police Force), and I intended to learn what was happening, and possibly challenge the leaders. I tried explaining what had happened to Shelley and why I was looking for the doctor. As they were warning me to not bring her here, Doctor Sigmund Connal entered the room and began questioning why I was there. Because they didn't want the real reason to come to light, Anna said that I had come to challenge the gym leaders. For some reason he found that interesting and had one of his assistants battle me. He used a team of Electric types, like the children said of the Doctor himself, which we took care of quickly. He seemed impressed by how effortlessly we were able to win, but said that due to the childrens' mental health that I was unable to challenge them. Anna rushed me out of the building before I could ask anything else, saying that I needed to remind my friend of who was most affected by the incident. I went back to the gym and told Victoria and Shelley what had happened, aside from the gang thing. Going to keep that a secret from everyone. Anyway, Shelly said that she was feeling well enough for a battle, although I did offer to give her as much time as she needed to compose herself. She insisted she was fine and said she would be waiting for me at her field. I felt kind of bad doing so, but I accepted her offer. Victoria challenged me to another battle to try and stop me, but again, she fell pretty quickly. The gym puzzle here was designed as a forest inside a library. There were multiple computers around which raised and lowered the bookcases. Pretty convenient for short people who need to reach higher shelves. Anyway, Lilith and I figured out how to raise the path to her field quickly. Wasn't hard once we figured out what each switch did. Also found a Leaf Stone in the ground. Unfortunately, I didn't see it until after I tripped over it. Not sure what I can do with it, but keeping it anyway. Lilith saw me trip, hid a smirk, then helped me up quickly. With friends like these... oh well; wouldn't change her at all. Shelly's gym was modeled after a forest, so it makes sense that her gym battle would take place on a forest field. This battle was actually a double battle, which gave me a decent strategy to beat her. She opened with her Masquedrain and Illmuse. I lead with Teemo and Aero. Teemo was primarily out to set up Light Screen to weaken her team, mostly comprised of special attackers. Aero used Calm Mind, which, due to her ability being Simple, gave enough power to set up and sweep. With her Air Cutter move, she was able to take out most of her team, although her Anorith was able to take down Teemo. He did his job admirably, and I sent out Lilith to help continue the fight. This was actually a very simple battle, but it didn't feel earned. Shelly still seemed emotionally distraught, which likely affected her ability to battle. Nevertheless, she gave me the badge and then asked me to report Corey's passing to Ame so the backup gym leader could be notified. I thanked her for the battle and am currently en route to the hall, but here is where I shall end for now. Another Felix
Log 13: A shocking development Corey was dead and Shelly was defeated. Unfortunately, I had no clue as to where I had to continue next. Apparently there is a reserve leader for each gym in this league. Seeing as it seems to be the only place with any information, I made haste to the Grand Hall, partially to tell Ame about Corey's death and to find out who's next up. Sadly, the first face I saw there was Fern. He was also there reporting Corey's suicide. He mentioned that the new Poison leader lived out in the Bybli-, no Bibix-, ugh, who came up with these names? The Byxbysion wasteland. And then he rubbed the fact that he had a key to get into the region, still acting like he was better than me. He said he would tell me where he got the key if I beat him in a battle. Was tempted to beat him with my own two fists and take the key, but a battle it was. Yet again, we won, he claimed he was still better than us, same old story, same old song and dance. At the very least he did say that he got the key from some singing guy with a weird haircut and fishnet stockings. I think he then made some kind of gay joke, but whatever. He said Cain was at the Beryl cemetery, then left. Honestly was hoping that him being on his own journey would mean I would see less of him. I found Cain at the cemetery, with him looking at one of the graves. Couldn't see the name on it, but my best guess would be that it was where Corey was buried. Since I was the last one to see him alive, Cain said that he was trying to find his daughter, Heather. Said that he knew what it was like to be abandoned and alone and that he didn't want her to feel that way. Touching, but not why I was there. I told him about my need for the key. There was a bit of tension in the air. He said he didn't really like giving the key out to people since he wasn't a fan of people challenging his sister. Hmm, a family of Poison trainers, one of whom is a gym leader. Wonder who is better. He offered to give me the key if I could beat him in a battle, which we did quickly. Surprised he doesn't have a Skuntank or Drapion on his team though. He's really weak to Psychic. Lilith evolved into a Delphox this battle, which greatly enhanced her powers. She made quite a large spectacle using both her Psychic and Fire powers to take his team down with style. Flashy she may be, but still very calculated. As our battle finished, a loud roar came from overhead. The Salamence landed on the mountain next to us and Heather looked over. Cain tried talking to her, saying that he wanted to look out for her since her father passed. It was clear that she was resentful of her father and all authority figures, as she claimed that Cain would just try to make more rules she had to abide by. He said he didn't want that and that he really just wanted to be a friend to her, but she said she already had a friend and took off to go to her. And now we had to head back to the Lapis gym to talk to Shelly and Heather. Cain went on ahead of me. As I was following, I heard a child shouting about being kidnapped. Again, no police officers, so I went towards the source of the noise. It turns out there was a child and a Drifloon there. Sadly, the wind picked up and Drifloon got away before I could catch it. The child said that he grabbed the Pokemon thinking it was an ordinary balloon and that it somehow dragged him to the outside of the abandoned power plant. I told him to get home since his parents must be worried sick. He ran off with reckless abandon. Kids... I continued to head back through the Jasper ward, but the kid screamed again. This time, two Venipede and a Scolipede were swarming on him. These bugs challenged me to a battle, and much like the Scraggy Squad in the slums, the Scolipede seemed to command the other two in battle. Again, curious as to how things like this really work. Anyway, I defeated the bugs and they retreated quickly. This time, I grabbed the kid's hand to keep him from running off again. It turns out he lives in the Lapis Ward anyway, so I took him there back to his home. As thanks for finding her son, his mother gave me a sticker to access another floor of the Department Store in the Obsidia Ward. After that I headed to the gym. Cain, Heather, and Shelly were all there. Heather threw some kind of hissy fit and stormed out, prompting Cain, Shelly, and I to follow her. We found next to the orphanage, with Dr. Connal and his assistants talking to her. As it turns out, some kind of law in the system grants him the authority to bring in any child who has no living legal guardian. Sadly there was nothing we could do without risking prison. The assistants dragged her back to the building, kicking and screaming all the way. We went back to the gym to plan our next move. Cain tried comforting Shelly, who blamed herself as the reason for why Heather was taken. But there was nothing we could do. As Cain was speaking to her, the lights dimmed briefly, some kind of power surge. A bloodcurdling scream rang out over the ward. Shelly recognized the voice as Heather's. We went back to the orphanage to figure out what the hell was going on. Locked. At least that's what Cain said when he tried to get in the front door. When I tried it though, it unlocked. Anna was the one who unlocked the door, saying that she saw my "glowiness." I don't think humans can use Flash, nor do I even have the TM for it, so still not sure what she was talking about. The children said that the doctor brought in a new girl and brought her upstairs, which is where he performs his electrical experiments. Cain stayed behind to defend the room while Shelly and I pushed upstairs. We found Noel locked up and decided to turn this into a full-scale break out. Our primary goal was to save Heather, but we also had to get back the Pokemon of everyone here. After fighting through some more orderlies, all of whom used Electric types by the way, we found the storage locker where all their Pokemon were held, as well as Charlotte's cigarettes. Dr. Connal and Heather were on the top floor of the building, as expected. Heather was strapped to a table with an Electrivire standing over her. So the doctor really does use Pokemon for torture. Great. We greatly overpowered the orderlies there and outnumbered the doctor. Charlotte burned him with one of her cigarettes and we took Heather out of there. Everyone said that the next place to meet up would be the Underground Railnet where the tracks broke off. I agreed to meet them there soon. One final part here, I actually helped the Aqua Gang today. I know I shouldn't be involved with them, but they needed my help to take over their rival gang, Team Magma's base. Well, I suppose having one gang would help prevent turf wars and innocents getting caught in cross-fire, so I agreed to help them. We simply took them on in a series of battles, eventually with me against their leader. He was quite a challenge, but Beryl evolved into a Gothorita, so that power spike, in addition to Lilith's newfound power, gave us the edge we needed to win and get them out of there. They offered me a Carvanha, but I turned it down. Not a fan of fish that can kill me. Team Updates! Lilith I still don't think she's ugly, regardless of what anyone says. Beryl It's still weird that Gothitelle said she lived with her daughters in the library, but this Gothorita is male.
Another Felix
Log 14: Shades of black So we got the children out of the orphanage. The next step was to get the hell out of the city before the police showed up. Granted, they'd probably take an eternity and be incapable of taking us down, but I would likely be the primary target as the "leader" of this event, so I don't really need them on my tail. Charlotte mentioned that her sister lived in the Chrysolia region which could only be accessed by train. Yet the trains have been out of commission for years now apparently. Luckily, the train tunnels are still standing, so that is where we all agreed to meet to get out of here. The plan was to go through the tunnels and find Charlotte's sister. Fate had other plans though, the signal being a locked door. Yureyu, the original corporation of Reborn, had the trains running underneath their headquarters. When the earthquakes happened years ago, the company, as well as the train system they maintained, ceased functioning. The door in front of us was controlled by the Power Plant. Not the one run by Julia; the one across Beryl Bridge. I fear heading back to the bridge, but there is no other way. There being a gym leader there apparently, it was actually Shade, the one who cleaned up Corey's body.. I agreed to go there, find Shade, and get him to turn the power back on. Everyone else had to wait here to not attract any attention. Another power plant as a gym, this one in significantly worse condition than the one in Peridot. There was some kind of shadowy element to the place, almost as if it was haunted. If it was, all the better for me though. I could always use a new team member. I did find something interesting though. Earlier in the Railnet, Aero picked up an odd-looking stone with what looked like a cable etched into it. Shelly called it a Linkstone and explained that it could evolve Pokemon who normally needed to be traded to be evolved. Unsure if it worked, I gave it to Groot. Miraculously, he did evolve into a Trevenant. I'm unsure as to how a stone could carry that kind of power, but I'm really not complaining. It was nearly pitch black inside, only illuminated by brief flashes of static. I brought out Lilith to help light the way with the flames on her stick (or "wand" as she prefers) as well as Groot to combat any ghosts we were likely to find. There were three paths stemming from the entrance, one on either side and a path blocked with metal barriers. So we went to the path on the right first. Mostly through the brief flashes of light and Lilith's guidance, I found some kind of computer attached to a large monitor. After tinkering with it for a bit (I'm not great with machines), the lights flashed back on and an image showed up on the screen. What we saw was more traumatic than I'd like to admit, but the screen showed Corey jumping off the bridge. I... I don't know what to say. How the hell did this happen? I even started tearing up after realizing how I was unable to save him. Usually, I'm not emotional. But when I screw up badly, it gets to me. The lights flashed off again, and Lilith and Groot lead me away from the screen, seemingly trying to comfort me. They're good friends, both to each other and to me. Wouldn't trade them for the world. I got over it and we continued exploring the plant. We found another computer in the same room, and I was frightened by what could be shown. Nevertheless, I turned it on. Again the lights flashed on and something on the screen showed up, this one slightly more confusing: A woman with green hair was just standing there. She was suddenly engulfed in a series of bright flashes, which quickly dissipated. When the lights disappeared, she was still standing there, but then fell apart, completely dismembered. It was gruesome and Lilith and I looked away in disgust. The lights flashed off again just as we found a locked door, so the only way to go was back. A few times, we were ambushed by some wild Pokemon. Mostly just Magnemite, Klink, and Voltorb. Electric Pokemon in a power plant, seems fairly typical, if possibly dangerous. One loose spark could've knocked out the entire plant when it was in commission. But Groot was actually able to scare most of them off. There was only one other Pokemon that found us. Thriving in the darkness lived some Ghost types, as I had predicted. A Yamask appeared before us and seemed to want to battle, likely to get us out of its home. I would've just continued walking, but Groot seemed insistent on fighting this thing. Not sure why. Maybe it insulted him? Anyway, Groot hit it with both Will-O-Wisp and Leech Seed, which severely weakened it. Not wanting it to suffer, I quickly threw a Pokeball and caught it before he could finish it. It stayed in the ball, so I caught a new Pokemon and named him after something that terrified me when I was younger, so Yamask shall henceforth be known as Fiddles. We quickly left the building to get to the Pokemon center to heal his burn. Again, catching someone else forces me to take one of my current members and leave them with the professor. In this case, I sent Keeper back. While he could become powerful, he really wasn't able to pull his weight in battle. Maybe if I find Banettite I'll continue training him, but until then, Fiddles is staying with me. And back to the Power Plant we go. Man this is a tiring journey. Back in the power plant, again with Lilith's flame, I noticed that two of the metal gates had been taken down. Realizing that it was because I had used the screens there, we went to the left hallway to find the other computers. We were ambushed by more wild Pokemon here though. Fiddles jumped out of his ball before Groot could scare them away, seemingly ready to fight, and boy did he fight. He may not have been the most powerful attacker, but his Ghost moves seemed far more powerful due to the lack of light. He was actually taking hit after hit and still staying in the fight. Damn he's tough. Somehow during the battles, he evolved into a Cofagrigus, which is honestly one of the coolest looking Pokemon I've ever seen. The evolution seemed to frighten off most of the other Pokemon near us, so we continued looking for the screens. The first one we found showed a familiar face, Amaria if I'm not mistaken. A red-headed girl, one with a steely conviction, ran up and pushed her, seeming causing her to fall off something. Hopefully I won't be faced with another death. One more screen, this one showed an elderly woman facing me. A Garchomp appeared behind her, causing her to turn around, just in time to be killed by an attack from it. Yikes. As that was the last screen, we went back to find Shade. He was obviously down the central hallway now that the barriers were gone. He said nothing as he floated into the air and smiled. This battle was about to begin. He started with his Gengar, which he called Corey. It seemed to have an unnatural hate for me. Is it possible that this actually is his spirit? Ugh, not thinking about it. I sent out Teemo to do what he does best: Cripple and annoy the opponent. Teemo quickly set up both Reflect and Light Screen, which significantly hindered the Gengar. I brought him back and sent out Aero, hoping she could survive a hit. She set up 2 Calm Mind moves, which greatly increased her power, especially as Gengar tried using Thunderbolt rather than a physical move. Her boosted power let her take it down, but then he sent out Banette. While she may have been able to beat it, Aero was caught off-guard by its Shadow Sneak attack hitting her from nowhere. Here is where Fiddles really made his debut. With Teemo's Reflect still active, Fiddles got Banette with Will-O-Wisp to severely weaken it's attack. From there, he used Hex to KO it rather quickly. Shade's next Pokemon was a Doublade. Here I sent out Beryl, as I knew this was my chance to help him set up, possibly for a sweep. He first attacked with Charge Beam, which both powered him up and turned the light back on in the gym. Shade flinched as the lights came back on, likely not used to them. From there, Beryl took out both his Doublade and his next Pokemon, Golett, with Dark Pulse. He likely would have continued beating his team, but Shade's Rotom got a powerful shot just as Light Screen ended, KO'ing him. Now it gets kind of interesting. I sent out Groot who both burned and Leech Seeded it without too much trouble, but we noticed it was holding Leftovers to heal. Both of us seeing the opportunity, I said not a word as Lilith jumped into battle and blasted it with Psyshock, stealing the Leftovers in the process. Rotom fell in the blast, but Lilith remained unharmed and holding the healing item. His final Pokemon was a Chandelure. Fortunately, Lilith was able to take it out using Psyshock again. Had the lights been off, it likely would have been able to take out most of my team with Shadow Ball, but that was not the case. Shade handed over the badge and TM for Shadow Claw with minimal speaking, as usual. I asked him to turn on the power, which he did. There was one final screen behind him. When this one turned on, it showed the children waiting for me in the Railnet. The door behind them opened and as it did, Meteor grunts came out and took all the children. Only Cain was able to get away, having his Nidoking use Earthquake to cover his tracks. I had to get down there immediately. "So dying souls are the key to your gain. Let them not suffer the poison in vain." Team Updates! Groot Couldn't find an animated shiny sprite New Team Member Fiddles 3spooky5me Thank you for your service. I will call upon you should I need you again Keeper Maybe once I get the Mega stone and the bracelet. Until then, you are outclassed. I do appreciate what you did for us, and I hope to have you fight by my side once again. Edited September 2, 2015 by Generalguy64
Another Felix
Log 15: Making sludge waves I immediately ran towards the underpass. Cain had destroyed the path so there was no way for the Meteor grunts to chase him. When I got there though, I was actually greeted by Victoria. She explained that due to Cain's actions, we'd need the HM for Strength, as well as the badge to use it. She said that her sensei on Apophyll Beach had the HM and that Cain was on his way to the Coral Ward to get there. I thanked her for the information and ran back out. Dammit Cain, can't even cut through the underground passage due to you. When I finally got there (I might actually get into decent shape with situations like this), Cain informed me that the lake was still too toxic for any boats or Pokemon to surf on. Luckily, Cain had done this before with the Oshawott. He sent out his newly-evolved Muk into the poison-filled lake and had it ferry him. I had to fall back to reconsider my options since I don't have my own living pile of sludge. As I was leaving, Amaria came out of a warehouse, saying that she found out where the source of the lake's pollution was coming from. I didn't get the chance to ask her about what I saw on the screen at Shade's Gym before she ran off to the Blackstream Factory and told me to follow. Unsurprisingly, the entrance was locked when we got there. In a stroke of brilliance, Amaria used her Lapras to create a frozen stairway up to the roof, where there happened to be an open door. Upon getting inside, we found more Team Meteor members. Yeah, high source of pollution, no one can say they did not see this coming. Anyway, her Pokemon were quite powerful, being able to take a few Meteor grunts in a battle by herself. Good thing I won't be battling her for a while. More grunts were waiting for us downstairs. Amaria had her Kingdra clear a path for me so at least one of us could get through. Upon getting through though, someone who was clearly high up in the ranks of the team was waiting for me, and he opened a trapdoor where I was standing. The fall was the longest 3 seconds of my life. Fortunately it was only a 1-story drop, so I was able to get up and walk it off. After a brief overview of my surroundings, I found I was trapped behind a fence with some other caged Pokemon. A Makuhita, Ditto, Jigglypuff, Loudred, Cyndaquil, Vanilish, Roggenrola, Lickitung, and Abra were all trapped in cages. I wanted to set them all free, but there was a guard there. He was actually asleep, but likely would've heard the noise. My first instinct was to try and have one of my team teleport us out of there, but there was some kind of machine preventing escape by Psychic means, likely because of the Abra. Instead, I had to actually remember something from that Materials Science course all those years ago. Metal becomes very brittle and susceptible to breaking when heated, then cooled very rapidly. The Abra may not have been able to teleport us out of there, but it was able to move the Pokemon in cages around. We got the Cyndaquil in line to heat the metal fence, then the Vanilish to freeze it. Finally the Roggenrola took it out with a single boulder shot. I still wanted to free the Pokemon, but there was no way for me to get the cages open. And miraculously, the guard stayed asleep throughout the entire time. Teemo even picked up a pen and started scribbling on his face. It took a lot of willpower not to laugh, but we quickly got out of there. After fighting through a lot more guards, we eventually found our way to the room where all the toxic waste was coming from. Waiting in there was ZEL, the man who opened the trapdoor on me, and another PULSE machine. This time it appeared to be a Muk rather than a Tangrowth, which makes sense. This was a poison based attack, not a plant one. The higher-up explained to me that the PULSE amplifies the Pokemon's power, but can hurt the Pokemon if it's in there too long. "Now that your back is turned, Garchomp. Dragon Rush. Execute." That's exactly what I heard before hearing the cry of a Garchomp. This man actually just tried to kill me. I was only saved by the power of Pokemon Ex-Machina, I mean, Amaria having her Lapras freeze it with Ice Beam before it attacked. My initial thoughts were non-existent. I was not thinking at that moment, solely in a state of shock. The first thing I remember thinking was that I really should push this guy into poisoned lake and wait until the bubbles stop. ZEL came at me for a battle before I could kill him. Amaria took him on while I tried to deactivate that machine. ZEL used their usual team of Glaceon, Umbreon, and Espeon. Wonder which belongs to whom. But their Glaceon and Espeon fell fairly easily to some strong attacks. Umbreon was more troublesome, but was still fairly simple since it is a more bulky Pokemon rather than an attacker. They then sent out the PULSE Muk. I thought Muk was an ugly Pokemon before, but this... this was unbelievable. And the smell is something I don't know if I'll ever forget. I sent out Teemo to set up defensive screens again, and it turns out this Muk had the Protean ability. It used Mud Bomb and then became brown like mud rather than its usual purple color. After the defense was up, I sent out Lilith to finish it. As soon as she got out of her Pokeball though, she wretched, likely from the smell. Glad she was able to continue to fight though, as she took out the Muk fairly easily with some nice dodging of its attacks. The machine was down and the Muk gone to parts unknown. Amaria was still battling the guy's Tyranitar. He then explained that their plan was to poison the lake so people wouldn't have clean water, and then be forced to leave the city. And still no one explained why they want the city empty. As a final parting shot, he had Tyranitar use Superpower on Amaria. Amazingly, she was still able to walk after that though. She gave me the key to her boat and limped off, possibly to a hospital. I thanked her for the keys and headed back to the pier. Hopefully I can still catch up to Cain. Another Felix
Log 16: The Fighting Mind I made it back to the Coral Ward rather quickly. Amaria's boat was sitting at the dock. I looked at the key in my hand and had a small panic attack. Never actually driven any sort of machine vehicle, land or sea. But there really was no time to second guess myself. I shoved the keys in the ignition and took off. Or I attempted to, as the boat was apparently in reverse and I nearly slammed into the wall behind us. It wasn't too bad once we got onto the lake. Lilith and Aero came out here to help drive the boat. Lilith lit the sky with flames to increase visibility, while Aero flew ahead and served as a guide. She lead us to the shores of Apophyll beach, but still no sign of Cain. The air was unusually humid there. The sand on the beach was a mix of black, white, and orange. It turns out the black sand was actually ash from the volcano on the island. A school at the base of a volcano. Has no one here ever seen a movie? The volcano always erupts or something causes it to blow. Although maybe it isn't so bad. Worked out great for the city of Pompeii. A large wooden dojo lay in front of us. It appears that this is the famed Apophyll academy, where students train their minds and bodies. We were looking for the master of the school, but it turns out she was in the middle of a lesson. We went down to the training area where a large group of students, some in traditional dojo garb, while others were from all walks of life, gathered. At the focal point of the mob, an elderly woman was just finishing up giving some kind of speech on priorities or something. Didn't really hear her. This was clearly the master, as she introduced herself as Kiki. She asked me to follow her back to the academy so she could sign me up as a proper student. Didn't even have time to explain the situation to her before she left. Victoria showed up as I walked in. She said that she was a student here, but another student said that she was actually Kiki's protege. Wasn't really interested since all I came here for was the HM for Strength, which I quickly explained was crucial to saving the children. She said she would go tell Kiki of the situation and see if there was any way to quickly get the disc. Before I could follow her though, I noticed a large poster on the wall. It was something about the proper method of mediation, but I really don't remember. What I do remember is that the girl who butted in as I was talking to Victoria handed me a Pokeball, saying that I had an extremely focused mind and that I should master what was inside. Wasn't actually in a state of zen. Just couldn't read the poster, but oh well. Got a Meditite. She told me that her name was Hammer, and that she would only listen to someone with a focused mind. Sadly this means I had to box another of my team members. I left Aero with it, but I fully intend to bring her back out to continue training her. I followed to Kiki's room, where Victoria was just finishing up explaining what was happening. Kiki said that the HM was reserved only for graduates of the acadamy, of which I was not attending as I quickly corrected her. Victoria spoke up, saying that she would like to apply for graduation, obviously to give me the HM. Kiki, still not trusting me, said I would need to prove myself. There was a student mediating and I would need to battle him. Where was he? At the top of the volcano, of course. Because that isn't a stupid idea. To say the inside of the mountain was scalding would be an understatement. It was unbearable. Even Lilith, who usually prefers to follow me outside of her ball and is a fire type, found it too hot to stay outside. Can't say I blame her. There were a lot of broken rocks in the way on my path to the top, so this was the perfect time to test Hammer. Using Rock Smash, she made very quick, precise, and powerful strikes. I can tell she'll be a very strong fighter, but I don't know if she understands me yet. There was a warm breeze at the top of the mountain. It was still insanely hot, but at least it was somewhat more bearable. As Kiki said, there was some guy meditating there. He didn't seem to notice me until I spoke up, saying I was there to battle him. Victoria had told me his name was Cain and that he used to be the fire gym leader. For a gym leader, he was pretty simple. His team mostly consisted of the first fire Pokemon in every regional Pokedex. Since three of them were weak to Psychic, it was pretty easy to take him down. My team was more than ready for this battle. After taking him down, we went back down to the school. It was still a burning journey to get back down. Will never enjoy that. Kiki did say she would let me challenge her for the badge now. However, Victoria gave me one more battle, saying that she wanted to protect Kiki, since she, by her own admisssion, was close to dying. Again, with her Fighting team, she lost though. Kiki was much more of a challenge. She also had a fighting team, but hers was far more prepared for a fight like this. They had trained in the art of mediation, which seemed to be greatly benefited by the serene locale. In the end though, her team was just incapable of standing up to us. Victoria declared me the victor, and I was set to recieve both my badge and the HM. Then Kiki collapsed. In the middle of the field, Kiki just collapsed. Victoria and I carried her back her her room, where she explained that she didn't have much time left and wished to be left alone. As per her wishes, I quickly left, only to have Victoria tell me something even more troubling: Cain was missing. He had never shown up at the beach. She said that the only place in between here and the city was Azurine Island, a breeding and research ground. It seems to be the only place he may be, short of something terrible happening on the open waters, so that is to be my next stop. I did continue writing this for a while. Don't know why I never posted them here.
