Not sure where to put this...

So not sure where this really belongs but I had a thought about the beginning of the game. I've noticed that throughout the game there are several classes of people notably Street Rats, Police Officers, Students, Meteor Members, and Members of the Group saving reborn with Ame etc; now this said I feel like once the main story line is "complete" alternate beginnings could be a lot of fun with different pokemon that could be deemed stereo typical as starters such as the ones found in the alley ways or Growlithe. Just a thought because the current beginning has never to me clicked with the theme of the game and starting somewhere that seems story line appropriate to relate better to the darker style of the game. Not saying that whats there isn't amazing its just a thought I've never understood what makes the main character so special they should earn the right to that starter pokemon and entry into the reborn league.....just thinking out loud.

Anyways thoughts comments commentary on this? Love the game and I have been playing sporadically since episode 6 or 7 so I like to contribute my thoughts to this marvelous work of art.

Heh, I'll freely admit that I have a headcanon for this.

My PC formerly having been a Street Rat who managed to steal/earn enough money to eventually save up for a train ticket/move to another region, hoping to find better fortune there. But with Meteor blowing up the station, they instead settled for acquiring a license for the Reborn league, figuring it'd still be better than going back to the streets empty-handed.

...But that's just me trying to make sense of the situation. I didn't like the idea of the character coming from a different region, so I reasoned that maybe the train was trying to leave instead.

I actually love the idea of having to use a different set of starter pokemon as opposed to the ones from the canon games.

I would not have minded starting with something like a Pidgey or Poochyena or anything else that seems like it could easily be found on the street.

But I suppose to some degree it'd be a huge let-down for a lot of people to not be allowed one of the classical starters?

My big thought for that is that you earn the right by "impressing" ame and then you get the option to keep what you started with or Select a Canon starter to start a "new" life so to speak it could be a lot of fun adding some extra flavor for some of the people that might have recognized you from your past life kinda thing.

You mean sort of like how you get your starter in RSE or DPP? You don't originally get to pick it at the lab, but the professor deems you worthy after seeing you fight?

I always liked that. It would put more emphasis on your potential to be a good and caring trainer to your pokemon, something which I suppose would seem admirable to Ame, what with her efforts to save the city and make it more habitable for people and pokemon again.

Yeah I always liked the thought of the PC actually being from Reborn, especially since they all kind of look it one way or another. In fact my headcanon even has where each PC came from

Vero: lower Peridot ward, guy looks like he used to be a street punk

Alice: Beryl(that's where Corey is, right?) as she has a gothy sort of look that fits the atmosphere of the place.

Decibel: Lapis ward, as his outfit makes xyr look kind of wealthy compared to the others

Kuro: Onyx, looks kind of like a dude who'd spend a lot of time at the game corner

Eri: Jasper, she has the most dystopian look of the PCs and Jasper is the most wrecked ward in the city.

Lucia: obsidia, seems like she'd hit up the salon and candy stores

This is an incredibly common trope used within games and other such media to distinguish the protagonist and make it easier for the audience to identify with the protagonist. Simply put, odds are you aren't gong to identify with Gym leaders, Hikers, Scientists etc so odds are you're going to identify with the OTHER guy who doesn't fit in.

True enough, honestly I think about it as more of a challenge some Pokemon I avoid because they aren't terribly strong and training them to me is a waste of EXP so being stuck with one to would be the only time I'd train one. I love story cohesion as well and a weak beginning takes away from that a bit to me, so having a direction to come from makes my OCD happy :D
