Nuzlocke Stories: Of Joy and Tears

For a long time I have searched for a place where I could relate my own nuzlocke story, a search nearly ending in defeat. Now that I have the chance I have chosen to bring it up here. Thus this is a place for stories, of happiness or devastation. Share your woes, recount your fond memories, and have fun.

My story is a long one. It began with Joey. This is a tale few are unlucky enough to tell. Read on if you dare.

I was a trainer, skilled and confident. I was collecting my team for the perilous journey across Johto, which, at the time, included my starter, a Pigey, and a Caterpie. Sadly the wild Pokemon of route 30 claimed the poor Pidgey. Then I bumped into Joey. I was confident, cocky, angry. I was sure my Caterpie was strong enough. Joey's Rattata was stronger. Poor Flutrsqsh never stood a chance. My starter took revenge on the Rattata, but the damage was done.

Frustrated, I headed on towards Violet city. I swore to never let that happen again and what should show up? A Rattata of course. Many would have decimated the creature, if only accidentally, but i had a better Idea. I would train up the little guy to be the top percentage Rattata, or close enough to beat Joey's vermin. So I caught him and called him Statistics. Soon Stats was a big part of my growing, close-knit team.

Then came Ecruteak city. The team had grown into a family. My starter as a patriarchal figure, Nardia, my Drowzee, as the mother figure, and Benedict, the best Togetic I had ever seen. Stats fit it as the older brother figure, cool and strong. Maybe it was confidence in Stats or caring too much for little Benedict, but the gym in Ecruteak brought disaster.

I was facing the first of several gym trainers and Benedict had so far decimated the first two of three Gastly the trainer had. However, Benedict had been cursed, and knowing the finality of a KO on my journey, didn't want to risk Benedict's life. As I said it might have been cockiness or favoritism, but I thought without a doubt that Stats could finish the trainer off. A priority Sucker Punch and it would be over, right?

Wrong. Sucker Punch failed (for those that don't know, this move only hits when the opponent is attacking) and the Gastly decided to use Mean Look. Stats was trapped but as soon as the Gastly used an attack I would win. Only the next move it used was Spite, thus draining the remaining PP for Sucker Punch. Trapped in the battle with only normal or fighting type moves left Stats was doomed when the Gastly used Curse. Looking back it seems obvious, but back then I was distraught. I threw potions at Stats until I finally realized that Mean Look did not fade. The only way out of the battle was for Stats to die.

So die he did. Benedict returned and disintegrated the Gastly and I left the gym without one of my closest teammates and the first Raticate that I liked. For those who care my team trained up and Benedict and Desmodus, now a Crobat after training, exacted revenge for Stats upon the rest of the gym.

Far in the future Benedict would take Stats' place and teach Joey and his 'top percentage' Raticate a final lesson.

There, that's my story. Long? I know. Nothing good is truly short. Hope you enjoyed and were inspired in some way. If not then you might have to go back and read it again.
