Qoseph
I bet he's just trying to be cool. He wants to be a cool silent guy but he has to explain to you what the badge and TM that he gives you are. Saying "This is the TM for Shadow Claw" would be too lame though. So he just says "Shadow Claw"...."40" thinking that he still kind of sounds cool. And then at the water treatment plant he shows up to tell you the latest news. Does he communicate with you like a decent, normal person? No! He just has to speak in cryptic poetry. It's like he floats around his power plant when he's alone thinking of ways to sound mysterious.
leocain
Well, he acts like a ghost (I still don't know what he is supposed to be), aside from helping you out sometimes and battling anyone with enough bladder control to go into his gym, he's gotta have a lot of free time. Anvilicious
YES! This is exactly what I think, too. "Let not them suffer to the poison in vain." Seriously, who talks like that!? A teenager going through that trying-to-be-cool-and-mysterious-but-really-looking-like-a-dork phase. That's who.

Nah, at least Shade sounds coherent and it has an useful meaning, at least he knows how to sound like a wise guy, instead of an idiot trying to seem smart. At the very least, he took poetry classes. Monochrome_Complex
Shade is a ghost I'm pretty sure, seeing as he took Corey's soul and turned him into a gengar(which selfish people can turn into when they die according to pokelore). Kiroen
Shade is a ghost I'm pretty sure, seeing as he took Corey's soul and turned him into a gengar(which selfish people can turn into when they die according to pokelore). He didn't take his soul, just his corpse. If Corey was, indeed, going to turn into a Gengar, he just needed to have the corpse in an isolated space to battle and capture him without much trouble. Also, for those of you who have seen the last episode's Corey's content: I don't think I'm the only one expecting a team up with Shade/Corey for an important battle against Sirius, out of which he may lose more than the another eye. And who knows? Maybe Shade may want to do that just to make Corey redeem himself.

Wait I always thought that Shade adopted Corey's Haunter and evolved him into Gengar. In some episode, I vaguely remember that Corey has a haunter (does he still have it now? I forgot :/). Sheep
Last time I fought him I don't think he had the Haunter. Then again, I think I remember him having different teams depending on his field so I'm not exactly sure that he doesn't have it at all. I definitely remember Skrelp, Skuntank, Croagunk, Nidorina, and Crobat. Maybe the last one is Haunter after all.
Jaromir
Yup, Haunter is part of Corey's team, at least as of e15. Honestly though, I never thought about "Corey the Gengar" not being Corey. If he isn't, then more questions appear about Shade. Maybe he isn't a ghost but a human that possess some unique abilities and is related to the Arceus Meteor? Another Felix
I fought him recently and I don't remember Haunter.
Abyssreaper99
The Gengar must be Corey's soul as you can't change the name of pokemon when traded.
Anvilicious
The Gengar must be Corey's soul as you can't change the name of pokemon when traded. That makes no sense. After all, you can nickname both the Croagunk and the Nidorina.

Vinny
Hey man, Shade can't be shaded by the other characters. Shade needs it's poetry~ No idea what's Shade up to. Shade is probably going to be the exposition entity at the end, ofc. More interested if Shade knows how to cook, though.

BlackMage
In Reborn, you can change the names of traded Pokémon. But that doesn't count for Croagunk, Haunter and Nidorina's case as Corey is DEAD (most likely possibility since some here on the forum are assuming that he isn't). What stops a person from nicknaming the dead's former pokemon ? So, maybe Shade nicknamed the Haunter/Gengar 'Corey' in respect to the former Poison leader. Nothing stops them, as we could nickname Croagunk, Nidorina and Skuntank. I don't think that he has a Haunter. If I recall correctly, his team is Skrelp, Skuntank, Grimer, Croagunk, Nidorina and Crobat on the Corrosive Mist Field as of E15. I don't know what his team is for the Corrosive Field though, so feel free to correct me.

Then again, Shade is hardly what anyone would call normal. What I want to know is how Shade knew about Kiki's death and Amaria's attempted suicide in advance. Monochrome_Complex
Ame and crew should probably clear us up on Corey the Gengar. Seems like people either interpret it as being Corey himself or his haunter evolving and being named as tribute.Personally I like former theory more.
