Nope, that was not a joke. He's actually a pretty cool guy, all said. Really funny, too. Did you know John Travolta apparently used to hide behind a door near an open window, and scream like he was falling when they were kids? Because he apparently did that.

Do we have, like, an in-depth plot yet (I mean, beyond what Ultima's doing)? Or is thwarting Ultima's plans going to be the main story (rather like Reborn after the Orphanage)? What about the order of the Gyms? Or even a map of the region? I think knowing the order (and names) towns and routes, plus what they look like, would be helpful in plotting.

Heck, even if we don't have the cities just yet, known roughly what the region looks like can be a huge help in figuring that out.

I'm working on the region map at the moment.

Okay, cool. When you're finished, you should probably show everyone, so they can pick out their cities/order of appearance-- well, unless you want to do that yourself.

Still, showing off the basic map will probably good, if only to get suggestions. Can we possibly get a teaser of what if might look like?

Will there be islands, or is it mostly a mainland? Mountains? Caves? Other geographic features?

Are you going the "mainstream Pokemon game" route, and basing it off of an actual place, or making it totally from scratch?

The people want to know~!

Edit: Oh, didn't see that. Thanks, that's actually useful!

Edit 2: Although, looking it over again, it may be a little outdated, considering new content -- like Rochelle and the Mega Stones thing. No biggie, but still, a little revision never hurt anyone.

I can't quite show a teaser yet, but probably tomorrow. It's a mainland region without much water. My idea was to take some inspiration from Zelda:Spirit Tracks. A region split into four distinct sections. Where you start is in the foresty section. Forests and grasslands abound. That's why the Grass and Bug leaders are relatively early on. They're not completely split up (Some mountains may be in the watery area and volcanoes may be in the earthy area), but those are the general themes.

Ooooh, Spirit Tracks, I like it! Will there be trains to take you to the main cities of each quadrant, too (after you unlock them, obviously)? That would be very cool.

It shall be done. Might be tough to code them being gradually unlocked, but I can probs get it right. Since it's the foresty area you start in, the first few gyms are Flying, Grass, Bug and either Fairy or Poison. Which do you think fits better?

Well, you could do the variable (player has said badge, train unlocks) then just do a transfer player with possibly a fancy animation.

Oooh, if we're going by that, then would the Pokemon League be in the center of the region? Or will it be somewhere far off into the distance?

And he hits the nail on the head! The Pokemon League will be in the centre. The actual area is a large city and the actual league is a tower in the centre of that city. Think about it. A battle with the champ, at the top of the tower.

I was thinking stamps on your train pass (as a Key item) or Trainer Card (which doubles as said pass), kind of like how you unlocked more Sevii islands in FRLG, mixed with the color-changing trainer cards from the main games. Still via Badges, tho.

Either of those can be easily achieved, so we don't really have to worry about them not being doable.

Oh, I know, I was just going by textual or visual, in terms of what our director wants.

Edit: I just thought those would be a neat little indicator, you know? Not necessary, but adding to the atmosphere.

Perhaps the Trainer Card can double as the train pass. Just to keep that simple. Don't wanna skew our priorities. Also, I just did the math. 18 badges, 4 areas, we've got two gyms unaccounted for. We could put the other two in the outskirts of the city area. Make them Electric (Battled after 8 badges) and Steel (final gym battle).

Just had a thought about the trains: could they be a version of the SS [whatevers] of Pokemon past?

As in, the first time around, you get a room with healing and a computer, plus a corridor of willing trainers, ripe for exp. Every subsequent trip is just a speedy little graphic, but, hey, exp! (And possible showcasing of Pokemon available in the new quadrant)

Or not. It doesn't really matter; I'm just tossing out ideas.

As the steel gym representative I am fine with that

Excellent. Here's the definitive gym order by the way.

1.Flying
2.Bug
3.Grass
4.Poison
5.Rock
6.Ground
7.Fire
8.FIghting
9.Electric
10.Dark
11.Fairy
12.Psychic
13.Ghost
14.Normal
15.Ice
16.Water
17.Dragon
18.Steel
1-4:Forest
5-8:Mountains
9:Electric
10-13:Spirit (Wastelands and graveyards aplenty)
14-17:Ocean and Icelands (Based on Northern areas like Canada and Russia
18:Steel
Lorekeeper:Maybe. Don't really know any train inside graphics to base it on, but if I find one, sounds like an interesting idea. The different quadrants could have different SUPREME Pokemon too. For example, the forest area could have a SUPREME Weezing that's clouding the forest in poison gas to repel Pokemon for deforestation.

I guess I'll give one last bit of advice before I take my leave. Setting up an outpost is fine, but how is someone not going to be suspicious of it (and don't use the Ampped Malamar for that reason). There's no right or wrong answer for this (literally, you could just put up a sign saying out of order). The other thing is that most players will only have one or two established teammates with a bunch of death fodder on their team at that point (and from what you've presented the leader would have six pretty strong ones). which would either make this section a complete pushover or really overwhelming making the leader very underwhelming.

I can't make any suggestions about the comic relief rival joining them. Don't know anything about him.

-------------------------

And Snow I have a warning to make sure you know what you are doing. Using any music in a game is considered copyright infringement. Nintendo and Pokemon don't care too much about this (especially remixes) but it's always good to make sure the creator wouldn't get upset with you using it without their permission even if you credit them (which you must). When you step outside of Pokemon games, the risk of "suing" is greater. By suing, I mean getting the game completely shut down. That's the reason why Ame got rid of the original orphanage music.

:/ That's.... Worrying. I was hoping we could avoid copyright, since there won't be any money made off of this and I was planning to give credit (of course). A lot of the music we have so far is from Ninendo(whom I don't think I can contact or get permission from...) but still, I don't want to get the game shut down. Especially when it comes to the themes from outside Nintendo. I do know some tracks will be safe, like the ones from Electric Mudkip. So yeah, I'm worried now. Great. Brb searching for info on copyrights.

Excellent. At the moment, I'm just sampling from my collection. For example, this is the current Route 1 music. Sounds sorta triumphant like "Yeah! Let's go!"

Fits perfectly!

I think the classic elements go something like earth, fire, water, air. I'm curious to see where you'll put the ice area. Mountain? Or tundra? And ground, rock and fire seem pretty volcanic, so there's that. What about Normal?

EDIT: ninja'd :P

Poison. Fairy fits in more with a group like Dark, Psychic, fighting and Ghost.

Also makes sense, since electric and steel fit in with a city theme.

Trains could be easy. Maybe. A little bit of manipulation on the SS Anne or another ship's tiles could serve as a base.

As to all of the music: obviously using remixes and asking the people who made them is fairly easy, and checking copyright complaints from game companies should probably be... not difficult, if you use teh google?

Either way, I'm sure certain artists would be fine with letting us use their remixes, especially if they get credited somewhere (outside of the Credits.txt file, even; if we put in the Pokegear MP3 player, it'd probably be easy to add credits there as well), since, hey, free advertisement. We just have to ask nicely, and phrase carefully.

I'm doing some research now. I have some good and some bad news. The bad news is that apparently Nintendo is VERY protective of their music. I don't think this means we can't use it, I'm not sure. I'll keep looking. However, the good news is there are some titles which are safe from this protection (huh. Weird phrasing). These are pokemon and Xenoblade. Edit: Kid Icarus Uprising too

Will keep you posted on what I find
