So I've had this Nuzlocke idea just lying around without really any motivation to write it down. So with me illustrating Ame's Nuzlocke run i thought there was no better time . So here is my Nuzlocke adventure in Pokemon Emerald. (As a little side note, there will be a story to be told and yes, the Pokemon are going to talk. If you don't like it then spheal with it.) Feedback and criticism is appreciated.

RULES:

1. If the Pokemon faints it's considered dead, either box it or release it.

2.Only allowed to catch a single Pokemon per route, if it's a duplicate oh well.

3. (this is my own rule) the Pokemon at game corners/ etc. are counted separately so you can get one of those if you've gotten another Pokemon in that town already.

4. START ALREADY!

Chapter 1: The Start of an Adventure

Chapter 1: The Start of an Adventure

Our story begins in the town of pallet in the back of a moving truck. With the hero of this tale sleeping soundly upon boxes of items, until he is awoken by the stopping of the truck and is thrown violently to the floor.

Ugh I have got to stop sleeping on these boxes when we move...

The truck door opened and our unnamed hero jumped out to be greeted by his mother.

"Oh Zipo! I'm glad you're awake" Zipo's mother exclaimed. "I was just about to come get you. I hope the ride over wasn't too bumpy, but take a look at our new home" she said gesturing to the house. "Why don't you go inside and take a look at your new room."

Stretching his stiff limbs, he made his way inside. As Zipo crossed the room, he noticed that the mover's Pokemon were doing all of the work. Meanwhile, the movers were all sitting down doing nothing. Scoffing in disgust he quickly climbed the steps. He gazed around the room and noticed his bed from their old house, his computer, and a new clock that his dad had bought him.

I might as well set this thing right now, there's no use in having a broken clock hanging on my wall. After setting the clock he sat down in the chair next to his computer. Taking a look on his desk he noticed a note most likely left by his father.

I'm sorry I couldn't be there to look at the new house with you but as you know I must take my Gym Leader duties very seriously. I'll see you when I can. Signed, Dad.

Sighing, Zipo crumpled up the note and tossed it into the trash bin. "He's never here, it's almost like he cares about the gym more than he cares about us" Zipo said aloud. Picking up the potion that was on his desk he returned downstairs only to be met face to face with his mother.

"Zipo come here quick" his mother exclaimed. "They're talking about your father on TV!" Walking over to the television he noticed that it was the end of the program, but sure enough the news team was there in front of the Petalburg Gym. "Oh i guess we missed him" she said with a hint of sadness in her voice. Perking up again she said, "why don't you go outside and introduce yourself to our neighbors. Afterwards you can visit Professor Birch and get a Pokemon! You are old enough to be getting your first Pokemon after all. Now off you go" she said pushing him out of the house.

Almost tripping out of his house, Zipo walked next door to introduce himself. Knocking politely on the door, he was met by a feminine voice beckoning him inside. "Hello! You must be the new neighbor I've heard about" the woman exclaimed. "I'm May's mom. May is our daughter and she's just about your age! I believe she's still upstairs in her room, why don't you go and say hello" she said gesturing to the stairs.

"Oh um, alright I'll do that. By the way my name is Zipo" he said nervously. Walking up the stairs he was blinded by a bright pink room that looked somewhat identical to his room. Except for the obvious fact that it was pink and there was a Pokeball on the rug. This must be May's Pokemon, I wonder what it is he thought reaching for it. Just then May came bounding up the stairs.

"Who are you?" She asked questioningly.

"I'm Zipo, I just moved in next door" he said somewhat nervously.

She continued to stare at him questioningly, but her expression lightened up. "I'm May! It's nice to meet you! I can see that you don't have a Pokemon so why don't you go see my dad. I'm sure he'll give you a Pokemon! Besides, I'm supposed to be helping him with field work anyway, haha" May said scratching the back of her head.

"Oh uh, if you say so" he said opening the door.

"Oh shoot, I almost forgot! You go on ahead, I'll be right behind you." May said heading back to her desk. "I still have to pack up some essentials."

Zipo quickly walked down the stairs and out the door. Thinking to himself, he remarked about the girl he had just met. Man what a weird girl, but she did say something about her dad so I might as well try to find him.

Walking towards the exit of town a small girl came running up to him. "E-excuse me! I can hear the cries of Pokemon out there and I'm scared! Can you go check for me?" The girl asked shivering.

"Sure thing kid" Zipo said walking outside of the boundaries of town. Who was he to decline someone in need? So he set out past the trees when he heard a cry for help.

"H-help me" a voice shouted out from beyond the trees. Running forward as fast as he could, Zipo noticed someone being chased by a Pokemon he had never seen before. "You there! Please help" the man said being backed into a corner. "In my bag there are three Pokemon, take one and help!"

Rummaging nervously through the bag, Zipo fumbled with the Pokeballs before grabbing hold of one. Throwing it high into the sky, the ball opened up in a flash of light. Out of the ball came a red chick looking Pokemon.

"What do you need me to do trainer?" The Pokemon asked.

"Di-did you just talk?" Zipo asked astonished.

"Well of course I did, you new to this or what?" The Pokemon said staring at him. "Anyway from what I can gather, we need to defeat that Zigzagoon over there, would I be right in saying that?"

Still astonished by the fact that the Pokemon was talking, Zipo could only nod.

Sighing and shaking it's head, the Pokemon told Zipo what to do. "Just tell me to use scratch and I'll do the rest!"

Doing as he was told, Zipo called out to the Pokemon shouting scratch. The Pokemon then leaped into the air and raked its claw across the Zigzagoon's body sending to scurrying.

Wow, for a first battle I didn't think I would have to save somebody, Zipo said to himself.

"Not bad kid for a rookie, now call me back" the Pokemon said. Once again obeying it's orders, Zipo returned it to it's Pokeball. He then walked over to the professor, who was dusting himself off, to see how he was faring.

"Whew, that was a close one" the professor said wiping the sweat from his brow. "Thanks for the help back there, without you showing up I don't know what I would have done."

"It was nothing sir" Zipo said scratching his head. "I was only helping someone in need."

"Well you're certainly modest I'll give you that" the professor said chuckling. "Anyway, you're a new face so you must be Zipo, come with me to my lab and we can talk more there."

Zipo followed behind to professor, keeping a wary eye for any more Pokemon that might try and jump out at them.

It's a nice start. You do well at rationalizing the basic steps of the game, but i would advise you to take a few more creative liberties. We know what happens in the game, and we're not reading to see that described, but to see how your own tale diverges.

Arriving at the lab, Birch took a seat facing Zipo. "Once again I can't thank you enough for saving me back there. It seems that you can handle yourself pretty well with a Pokemon though so why don't you keep that Torchic there, but you did seem a bit confused when you called it out though."

"Ah so that's what it's called, I'm pretty new to this region so I had never seen a Pokemon like this before. I came from Johto with my mom and dad. Although, my dad isn't around that much since he's the gym leader in Petalburg," explained Zipo. "I was pretty sick when I was younger so I wasn't able to go out that much. Even though my dad is a fantastic trainer and was able to be accepted as a gym leader, I still wasn't around Pokemon that much."

"That would make sense, a lot of the Pokemon here aren't found in Johto, and I'm sorry about how sick you were, but at least you're better now" Birch told Zipo. "My daughter May is out doing some research for me, why don't you go and meet up with her, she would be able to teach you how to be a successful trainer.

"Thanks a lot Professor, I'll keep an eye out for her. I'll see you around." Stepping out of the lab, Zipo called out his Torchic. "So rookie, I guess you're my trainer. My name is Rez and I'll be sure to coach you through all of this" Rez told Zipo. "Well Rez, I'm glad to have you as my partner, I know for sure that we're gonna go all the way to the league. By the way, the name is Zipo, not rookie" said Zipo extending his palm. "Alright, alright, Zipo don't get too sappy on me, now lets go." Rez hopped up onto Zipo's shoulder and they set out towards the next town.

Walking on route 101, Rez was instructing Zipo. "Now Zipo, wild Pokemon appear in the taller grass on these routes, so you'll have to be on your guard. In most towns there are Pokemon centers and marts where you can heal up or buy items, it's highly recommended to buy these items."

"Thanks a lot Rez," said Zipo blindly passing through Oldale town. "Rez I think I can see May up ahead, lets go."

Treading carefully through the tall grass Zipo confronted May while she was doing her field work. "The Pokemon located on route 103 are... Oh Zipo I didn't see you there. I can see you visited my father and got a Torchic. Why don't we have a battle!"

Cautiously looking at Rez, Zipo nodded. May quickly sent out her Pokemon. "Hey Rez, what kind of Pokemon is that" Zipo asked quizzically. "That would be a Mudkip, a water Pokemon, but it seems to be around the same level as I am so we shouldn't have to worry about any water moves." Commanding Rez to attack, Zipo called out Scratch multiple times landing successful hits. May waited for the opportune time to attack "Mudkip, tackle attack!" Her Mudkip tackled Rez landing a Critical hit. "Rez! Are you alright?" Zipo asked concerned. "Oh please kid, it'll take more than that to take me out, just toss me that potion you've been carrying and I should be just fine." Using the Potion, Rez seemed to be re-energized quickly defeating the Mudkip with a few more scratches.

"Well done Zipo! I can tell you're going to be a great trainer" May said returning her Mudkip. "Now lets head back to the Lab."

Following behind, Zipo was having yet another conversation with Rez. "That was a pretty close battle wouldn't you say?" Zipo said still a bit concerned. "Come on Zipo, I had that all along. Besides you were there to back me up, so I had no doubt that we would win."

May called over to them, "over here! Come on lets hurry home!" Rez gave a slight yawn. "Come on Rez, back in the ball for you, get some good rest." Rez nodded, "good idea Zipo. Just don't forget about me." Returning Rez back to his Pokeball Zipo rushed back to the lab right behind May. Stepping in the door he noticed the Professor had a large grin on his face.

"Congratulations Zipo! I heard you beat May on your first try. I could already tell that you would become a great trainer so I want you to have this." The Professor said handing Zipo a Pokedex.

"Uhm thanks Professor, but what is this" Zipo asked. "Now that Zipo is a Pokedex, it records the information of Pokemon that you have seen or caught" explains the Professor. "Oh wow! Thanks a lot Professor!" May then butted into the conversation. "So now you have a Pokedex like me, thats great Zipo. Now here's a gift from me" she said handing him five Pokeballs. "Now you can add more Pokemon to your team!"

"Thanks a lot May. It's getting a bit late so I think I'll head home. See you all later" Zipo exclaimed waving back at them while exiting the lab. 'Wow a Pokemon trainer, I still can't believe this' Zipo thought to himself. 'I guess if mom lets me, I'll start my journey tomorrow.' Walking up the stairs, he laid down in his bed, waiting for tomorrow to come.

(For next update, I'm counting route 101 and 103 as catch-able routes since I didn't have any Pokeballs to use before.)

Chapter 2: The Real Adventure Begins

Waking up from his nights rest, Zipo headed downstairs stretching. Expecting his mom to be there, he was surprised to find a note instead. Dear Zipo, I'm so proud of you for taking your first steps to becoming a Pokemon trainer. You are just like your father and I can tell that you will achieve great things with your Pokemon. I went out shopping for supplies, but just in case I wasn't back in time, I left you a present that will help you on your journey. Remember to stay safe. Love, Mom.

Setting the note down on the table, his eyes rested on the gift. Gently prying the top off of the box, he peered inside. It's contents were a new pair of Running Shoes with a small description attached. Their description saying You'll be able to run faster with these shoes on. Slipping on the new shoes, Zipo made his way back upstairs, grabbing his pack, Pokedex, and new Pokemon Rez, before he headed out to route 101.

Sending out Rez and setting him upon his shoulder Zipo set out into the tall grass. "This is where your real adventure begins" said Rez. "Now you can capture other Pokemon, just remember that you're only allowed to catch one Pokemon per route."

"Why only one?" asked Zipo. "Whats wrong with catching a second one?"

Rez quickly explained, "That's how it always is, each trainer obeys this rule, and if you don't then... severe consequences will occur."

Looking around, Zipo spotted a Pokemon. It appeared to be a bug Pokemon. Quietly sneaking up on it Zipo threw a Pokeball at it capturing it. Afterwards he sent out his newly captured Pokemon and looked at his Pokedex for information about it.

"So, you're a Wurmple? Is that right?" Zipo asked the frightened Bug Pokemon.

"Y-yes that's right. My name is Mel and it's nice to meet you" said Mel with a small nod.

"Well Mel, it's nice to meet you too," said Zipo. Pointing to his shoulder he explained, "this is Rez, although he might look a bit scary there's no reason to be afraid of him." Picking up his newly captured Wurmple and setting it on his other shoulder, Zipo set out for route 103 looking for a new teammate.

While exiting route 101 he stopped abruptly staring at Oldale town. "Rez, was this town always here?" asked Zipo.

"Uh I don't remember, we might not have noticed it" Rez said. Buying a few Potions and Pokeballs from the mart, Zipo once again set out for route 103 after picking up a free sample from the employee outside.

Stepping into the tall grass, Zipo was immediately encountered by a Poocheyena. Weakening it with a few scratches from Rez he hurled a Pokeball at it capturing it. Once again registering his newly caught Pokemon in the Pokedex, he sent her out."So you're the trainer I'm stuck with" asked the Poocheyena rather rudely. "Well I'm Hilary and as my trainer you better not let me down."

Taken aback by this response Zipo replied "I'm Zipo, and while you may not like me at the moment Hilary, I'm sure that we'll be able to get along."

Tapping him on the side of the head, Rez brought something to his attention. "Zipo I know that you're new at this but we're going to need some training if you want to be able to defeat the gym leaders. So I suggest we train" explained Rez.

"Before one of us gets killed" added Hilary quietly.

"Alright guys, I'll start training right away, but lets see what we can catch on this next route" said Zipo. Encountering another Poocheyena, he was able to weaken and capture it with the help of Rez. Learning that his new Poocheyena was a lot nicer than the other one, and that it's name was Christy, he returned her to the Pokeball to start training.

After the training session, Zipo walked along the route when he was confronted by a few trainers. Although, he easily defeated them thanks to Mel poisoning them in one hit with a Poison Sting, and then taking them out with a few tackles. Close to the exit of the route, Zipo was challenged by another trainer. Leading off with a Zigzagoon Zipo sent out Mel. Going for the tackle to see how much damage it would do, Zigzagoon used growl weakening Mel's attack. Then Mel used a string shot to slow the Zigzagoon down. The Zigzagoon then proceeded to tackle dealing a critical hit. Worried about Mel, Zipo called her back replacing her with Christy. Getting a few tackles off the Zigzagoon dealt another Critical hit. Christy then decided that enough was enough, defeating the Zigzagoon with her own critical hit. Returning his Zigzagoon, Zipo's opponent then sent out a Tailow while Zipo switched Christy out for Hilary. Landing a few tackles, Zipo could see that the Tailow's pecks we're hurting quite a bit. Not wanting to take any chances he decided to finish off the battle with Rez landing a critical hit on the Tailow.

"Phew that was a close battle" Zipo said walking back the the Pokemon battle. "That trainer almost got you guys" he said jokingly.

"Well, there was nothing to worry about. As long as we have each-others backs, there is no opponent that can defeat us" Rez said boasting.

Walking back towards the end of the route, the team got into one last battle before the town. Mel quickly defeated the Poocheyena and started glowing. "Wh-what is happening to me" stammered Mel.

"It would appear that you're evolving Mel! That's great news" exclaimed Zipo. Mel stopped glowing and in her place, instead of a caterpillar was a cocoon looking Pokemon. "Mel how did it feel to evolve?" asked Zipo. He was only greeted by silence and the blinking of his evolved Pokemon. "I guess I'll have to ask her when she evolves again, but until then I guess it's time to say hello to dad" said Zipo walking into Petalburg City.

Stepping into the Gym, Zipo was confronted with his father standing before him. "Well son, I see you've made it here in one piece, and with some Pokemon too! I'm proud that you've taken your first steps to becoming a trainer, but you still have a little while to go before you can challenge me" exclaimed Zipo's Dad.

"No need to worry about that dad, I'll be challenging you soon enough. I've got a team of strong Pokemon and together there's nothing that can defeat us" Zipo said confidently.

Chuckling to himself Zipo's dad responded, "well you sure have my spirit for battling. There's no doubt in my mind that I'll be seeing you soon, but first you'll have to defeat a few gyms. The first one is in a place called Rustboro City, where Devon corporations is located." Before Zipo could say farewell to his father, in walked a nervous looking boy.

"Um, I'd like to get a Pokemon, please" said the boy shifting from foot to foot nervously.

"Ah you're Wally right?" Asked Dad puzzled.

"Yes that's me. I'm going to be staying in Verdanturf town with my relatives and I thought I might not be as lonely if I had my own Pokemon. The only problem is I don't know how to catch a Pokemon" Wally said a bit ashamed.

"Well, no need to fret Wally. My son here, Zipo, has just become a trainer himself, and he'd be able to teach you how to catch a Pokemon. Until then though, I'll lend you one of my Pokemon" Dad said handing Wally a Zigzagoon. "Here's a Pokeball too, there's no sense in sending you out there to catch a Pokemon without one."

Nodding his head Wally responded, "thank you sir!" Turning towards Zipo he asked, "will you really come with me to help?"

Leading him out the door and towards the previous route he responded, "of course I will. Now you need to walk around in the tall grass for a Pokemon to jump out at you" Zipo explained to the novice. "Send your Pokemon out to weaken it and then capture it with a Pokeball. You got that Wally?"

Nodding his head again he responded, "yes I believe so." Walking in the tall grass, Wally was soon greeted by a small Pokemon. Sending out the Zigzagoon, he weakened it within catching range and threw the Pokeball at it. Hearing the satisfying noise of a capture, Wally picked up his Pokemon happily. "Thanks a lot Zipo! Lets go back to the gym so I can show your dad."

Returning triumphantly to the gym and showing the newly caught Pokemon to Norman, Wally earned a congratulations. He returned the borrowed Pokemon and left the gym shortly after. Turning to Zipo, Norman said sternly, "now Zipo if you're serious about becoming a trainer you have to be sure to train all of your Pokemon before challenging a gym. Otherwise, who knows what would happen to any of them. As I said before, you should head to Rustboro City and challenge the leader Roxanne. If I remember correctly she specializes in rock type Pokemon so you should probably sit your Silcoon and Torchic out. After Roxanne head to the next City and defeat that gym leader and collect badges from them. Doing this we will battle one day, but only after you've become stronger."

With that Zipo said farewell to his father and headed west only to be stopped by a man wearing a set of sunglasses. "Excuse me! From the way you're dressed I can guess you're a Pokemon trainer. Although I'm not too sure, your clothes aren't nearly dirty enough. You're either a rookie or just an ordinary kid." Pausing for a second to recollect his thoughts the mystery man continued on. "I'm roaming the land in search of talented trainers, I'm sorry to have taken your time." Quickly walking away, Zipo didn't have a chance to even utter a word to this mystery man or even get his name, but in the back of his mind, he knew that he would be seeing the mystery man again. Quickly breezing through the next route, Zipo found himself in a forest.

Walking through the tall grass, Zipo caught himself a strange, mushroom looking Pokemon named Shroomish. Learning that he was named Emile, Zipo welcomed him to the party filling in all six of his available party slots. Easily defeating the few trainers along the way, he ran into a man who seemed out of place in the forest. "Hello there" the man said. "Have you seen a Pokemon named Shroomish around here anywhere? I really love that Pokemon."

Sliding Emile's Pokeball warily behind his back, Zipo replied, "no sir I haven't, but they're bound to be around here somewhere." Just then, an odd man came walking up to the two. He was dressed in a striped blue shirt with blue pants.

"I was going to ambush you, but you had to dawdle in Petalburg Woods forever, didn't you? I got sick of waiting so here I am" the man said gruffly. "Devon Researcher, hand over those papers" the man said reaching for the Devon Employee.

Retreating to safety behind Zipo, the Employee pleaded with him. "You're a Pokemon trainer aren't you? You've got to help me!"

Turning towards the man Zipo stared at him angrily. "What do you think you're doing? A kid like you protecting him? No one who crosses Team Aqua gets any mercy" the grunt shouted sending out his Poocheyena.

Sending out Mel, Zipo proceeded to attack using Poison Sting. Launching a volley of poisonous stingers at the Poocheyena, one impaled itself in the Pokemon's fur. The Poocheyena staggered from side to side before hitting the ground, weakened from the toxin injected into it.

"You're kidding me! Defeated by a kid? Bah!" The grunt yelled angrily. "You've got some nerve meddling with Team Aqua kid! Come on and battle me again!"

"Um alright, do you have anymore Pokemon that you can battle with?" Zipo asked questioningly.

Grumbling a bit, the grunt responded gruffly. "No I don't, but that doesn't mean you've seen the last of me! We of Team Aqua are also after something in Rustboro. I'll let you go today" the grunt shouted running away.

"Whew that was a close one" sighed the Researcher. "Thanks to you, he didn't rob me of these important papers. As a reward you can have this Great Ball!"

Thanking the Researcher Zipo simply replied "I was just helping out someone in need it's no big deal."

Pausing for a second, the Researcher pondered something. "Didn't he say they were after something in Rustboro too... Oh no! This is a disaster" he cried out leaving Zipo wondering what was wrong.

Walking through the remainder of the forest with his Pokemon at his side, Zipo was thinking out loud. "I wonder what problems Team Aqua is causing in Rustboro.."

Rez, piping up from his shoulder simply replied, "it's nothing we can't handle Zip. Besides did you see how well Mel took out that Grunt's Pokemon? It shows that you're more then capable of handling anything that Team Aqua throws your way."

Nodding his head, Zipo agreed. "I guess you're right Rez, there really isn't anything to worry about."

Running into one last trainer battle, Mel easily defeated the Bug Catcher's Pokemon ending with what could only be described as a large grin on her face. Suddenly once again, Mel started glowing signaling once again that she was evolving. From what Zipo could see, The cocoon seemed to be cracking and from out of it came a Beautifly. "Ah~ It feels so good to stretch my wings. You have no idea how cramped it can get in there" Mel happily said.

"So Mel, congratulations on another evolution! Even though you've gotten a lot stronger Mel, I won't be able to use you in the next gym unless absolutely necessary. Is that okay with you" Zipo asked.

"Of course it is, I wouldn't want to be cleaned off of a rock, but I'm here for you when you need me" Mel replied flying around Zipo.

"Well that's good because we're almost there" he said pointing towards the lights up ahead.

Chapter 3: Are You Ready To Rock?

Visiting the flower shop and talking to the boy just outside of it, Zipo received the TM Bullet seed and a Wailmer Pail. Advancing further on the route, Zipo found himself in his very first double battle as a trainer. Although it wasn't a difficult one with Rez and Mel easily defeating their opponents, it was still a neat thing to witness. Entering Rustboro city, Zipo visited the trainer school. Inside he once again he saw the mysterious man from Petalburg city. The man introduced himself as Scott, saying how he'd been traveling everywhere looking for outstanding trainers. Other then that, Scott seemed a bit preoccupied watching the other trainers. Wandering around town more, he was greeted by a man with a cheery expression on his face. He then proceeded to give Zipo the HM Cut knowing that he'd put it to good use. Talking to some of the locals, Zipo learned that Roxanne wouldn't be an easy victory so he then decided to do a bit of training on the next route.

Sighing and stepping onto the next route, Zipo walked into the tall grass to see what new teammate awaited him. Unfortunately for him, It was yet another Poocheyena, and he wanted nothing to do with it. Defeating the trainers here in one fell swoop, Zipo returned to the gym ready for the challenge ahead.

"You ready Emile" Zipo asked looking at his Shroomish.

"Oh please boss, those rocks won't know what hit them" replied Emile. Holding Emile out on his hand, Emile opened fire on the opponents Pokemon easily taking them out with Bullet seeds. Jumping up onto Zipo's head, Emile shouted "Who's next huh? I'll take all of you on!" Clearly, the victories had gone to his head.

"So, you're the challenger who has been making all the ruckus around here" Roxanne said stepping forward. "Since you're obviously here to challenge me, lets get this battle started" Roxanne exclaimed.

"Just warning you Roxanne, there's no way you can win this" shouted Zipo.

Sending out Emile, Zipo quickly defeated Roxanne's two Geodudes with a pair of Bullet Seeds. Then came the big guy. Roxanne sent out her Nosepass, a bulky rock Pokemon that Emile was hardly damaging with Absorbs . Changing strategy, Emile shot seeds out which clung to the Nosepass and continuously drained its energy. He then spread some powder around, making the Nosepass have a difficult time moving or dodging. Shooting more seeds out of his mouth, Emile managed to crack through the thick defense of Roxanne's Nosepass. Thus earning Zipo the Stone Badge.

"Well done trainer" Roxanne said. "As dictated by the league rules, upon defeat I must award to you this Stone Badge. Also, as a gift from me. Have this Technical machine Rock Tomb."

Accepting both items and thanking Roxanne, Zipo hugged Emile tightly almost squeezing him to death. "We did it Emile! We got our first badge" Zipo said excitedly.

"Come on boss, enough with the mushy mushy stuff. After all of that I wouldn't want to be done in by my own trainer" Emile joked. Simply setting Emile on his shoulder, Zipo walked out of the Gym only to see a Team Aqua member running away from Devon Corporations with a small package in his arms.

Following close behind the Grunt, Zipo noticed him entering what looked like a cave. Edging closer to the cave he saw an old man pacing outside. "Excuse me sir? Is something wrong" asked Zipo.

"That Aqua member, he stole my precious Peeko. What am I to do..." the man said furrowing his brow.

"Don't worry sir, I'll get Peeko back for you." Entering the Rusturf tunnel, Zipo noticed a sort of fog in the air. Unfortunately, Zipo ran into a Whismur that was quickly defeated by a critical hit from Rez. Sighing a bit, he continued onwards.

Running up to the Grunt, Zipo stared him in the eyes commanding, "give back those stolen goods and that stolen Pokemon!"

Sighing the grunt replied, "turns out this Pokemon is completely useless and I ran into a dead end coming in here. Although if you still want these goods you'll have to beat me in a battle."

Easily scorching the Poocheyena with a few Embers, Zipo snatched the stolen goods from the grunt and led Peeko outside to the old man. "Oh thank you for returning Peeko to me young man" the old man replied happily.

"The name is Zipo sir and it was nothing," said Zipo scratching the back of his head.

Furrowing his brow the man said, "nothing eh? You reunited someone with their cherished Pokemon, that is something my boy. Now I don't believe I've properly introduced myself. My name is Mr. Briney, I live in that cottage by the sea. If you ever need to get to Dewford town I'd be happy to escort you there," Mr. Briney said.

"Thank you Mr. Briney I'll take you up on that offer" Zipo said.

"Splendid! Now just visit me at my cottage when you're ready to leave" Mr. Briney replied leaving for home with Peeko. Thinking to himself Zipo couldn't help but remark at how good it felt to help out people in need.

Heading back into Rustboro city, Zipo noticed the Devon Employee standing in the road. "Oh are those the goods that were stolen" he asked gesturing towards the package Zipo was holding.

"Indeed they are sir," Zipo replied grinning.

"I can not thank you enough for getting those back to me safely. As thanks you can have another Great Ball" he said handing Zipo another Great Ball. "Oh and if you could, would you please follow me" he asked leading Zipo to the third floor of the Devon building. Once inside the Employee proceeded to tell Zipo that this was the President's office floor and that the President would like to see him. Also asking Zipo if he could deliver the Goods to the Shipyard in Slateport, the Employee left Zipo to meet with the President.

"So," the President said. "You're the boy who helped retrieve the Devon goods! I can't thank you enough for getting those back and for saving our staff. I'm Mr. Stone, the President of the Devon Corporation. I understand that you'll be heading to Slateport to deliver those goods. On the way could you stop off in Dewford Town, I was hoping you could deliver this letter to Steven."

Nodding his head Zipo replied, "sure thing Mr. Stone. I was heading to Dewford anyway so I see no harm in it."

As Zipo was about to leave, Mr. Stone stopped him for a moment. "Zipo, as you may know I am a great President, so I'd never be so cheap as to ask a favor for nothing in return. That's why I want you to have this" the President said handing Zipo a strange device. "That device is called a Pokenav, it has a map of the Hoen region stored on it so you can check where the towns are. By the way, I want you to be careful, I've heard that the groups Team Magma and Aqua have been making trouble."

Nodding again Zipo replied with a thank you quickly heading out of the building. Soon after though he was stopped by a Devon Engineer. The Engineer asked for Zipo's Pokenav adding a calling feature onto it so he could chat with people who he had registered. Thanking the Engineer, Zipo set out for Mr. Briney's cottage.

Advancing upon the exit of the city, Zipo was greeted by an ever so eager May. "Hey there Zipo! Long time no see" she said. "What have you been up to?"

"Nothing much" he replied. "I'm on my way to deliver some things for Mr.Stone, he gave me a PokeNav in return."

"You have a PokeNav too?" May asked. "Let me add you! I bet you've gotten stronger too, why don't we have a battle?"

"Sure thing May" Zipo said, "But it wont be hard to win."

Sending out a Torkoal, Zipo sent out Rez. Attempting to get some damage off on the Torkoal, Rez attempted to rake his claws across the Torkoal, dealing minimal damage because of its bulky shell. May commanded her Pokemon to stand its ground and soak in power from the sun in order to raise its defense and attack higher. Rez stood his ground as well, focusing on his target looking for any weak points. Still soaking in more power, May's Torkoal continued standing its ground. Rez unleashed fire around the base of the Torkoal where it wasn't protected by its shell. Catching it off guard, it took some hefty damage, but then it finally attacked. Luckily for Rez, the Torkoal missed and Rez was able to take it out with one last blast of fire.

"Not bad Zipo" May called out, "but lets see how your Torchic does against my Mudkip!" Quickly reaching for his Pokeballs, Zipo returned Rez and sent out Emile to take out her Mudkip. "Ah a grass Pokemon, good job" May said. "but don't think I'm going down that easy!" That said, she was quickly defeated when Emile spat a series of seeds at her Mudkip. Zipo soon departed again towards the cottage by the sea.

Reaching Mr. Briney's house safely, Zipo stepped inside to arrange his trip to Dewford. "Excuse me sir" Zipo said. "I'd like to go to Dewford town."

With a grin on his face, Mr. Briney said, "Of course my boy! Anything for the person who saved my darling Peeko."

So they then set off for Dewford, along the way Zipo recieve a call from his father. "Hello Zipo, is that you? It sounds windy wherever you are" he said. "I just heard from Mr. Stone about your PokeNav and I thought I'd see how you are."

Replying Zipo said, "I'm just passing on a few routes to Dewford town, I should be there any minute."

Chuckling to himself, his dad said, "That's great Zipo. I've got to get back to the Gym. You take care now" and with that the call was over. Looking to the horizon, Zipo was eagerly awaiting what would happen next, but little did he know that something was watching him as well.

Chapter 4: Never Stop Fighting

Stepping onto the sand Zipo stretched a bit before heading into town. Being greeted by a fisherman who loved fishing too much, Zipo acquired the old rod. Laying in the sand for a while, Zipo waited patiently for his fishing rod to snag something. Suddenly a Pokemon was hooked! It was a Magikarp which only flopped around on the sand. Simply sighing to himself Zipo caught the Magikarp that was uselessly floundering around. "MERE MORTAL" the fish said. "I am the almighty God Poseidon! You shall refer to me as such" demanded the Magikarp.

"Sure thing Poseidon" Zipo said "I guess I should say welcome to the team." Heading north west, Zipo came upon a cave. The people in Dewford were saying that the man named Steven was there, so Zipo entered cautiously.

Inside, Zipo ran into a Zubat named Tobi, who he quickly stored in his bag before talking to the Hiker that was also in the cave. "Hello there boy! It's really dark down there so you should take this" the hiker said handing him the HM Flash. "Although you'll need the Badge from Brawly to use it though." Thanking him, Zipo continued on his way deeper into Granite cave.

Stumbling his way through the darkness, Zipo made his way into another section of the cave where a man was waiting. "My name is Steven, I collect rare gems and fossils so I'm always traveling," Steven said. "And who might you be?"

"My name is Zipo, and I have a letter for you from Mr. Stone," Zipo replied.

"Oh a letter for me? Thank you for that. You went through all that trouble to deliver that letter so I'll give you this TM Steel Wing" replied Steven. "Your Pokemon seem quite capable, if you keep training you could become the Champion of the Pokemon League one day." Pausing for a moment he sighed and began speaking again. "Well that's what I think at least. Why don't we register each other so we can keep in touch" he said adding himself to Zipo's Pokenav.

"Thank you Steven, I'm sure we'll see each other again soon," Zipo said. "I'm not so confident about you since I've just begun my journey, but I'm sure I'll become champion."

"That's the spirit, I'm sure we'll see each other again," replied Steven with a wave. "Until then, goodbye."

Training up his Pokemon more, Zipo finally decided it was time to challenge Brawly. During the training, Zipo taught Tobi Steel Wing, and unfortunately for Rez, he learned Cut. Easily sweeping through the gym with Mel gusting away all of the trainer's Pokemon, Zipo found himself at Brawly. "So challenger! You think you can defeat me as easily as you defeated those other trainers? I'll show you what we're made of," Brawly shouted.

Brawly began the battle by sending out his Machop while Zipo sent out Mel. Zipo proceeded to open up with gusts, buffeting the Machop with the high winds, defeating it before it could get of a final strike on Mel.

"You're pretty good trainer, lets see how you do against this" Brawly said sending out his Meditite. Keeping Mel in, Zipo quickly healed her up with a potion, shortly afterwards defeating the Meditite with a few gusts. "Seems like I'm on my last legs. Lets see how you fare against my strongest Pokemon" Brawly shouted sending out his Makuhita.

Attempting to poison it, Mel launched a volley of poisonous darts at the Makuhita, but only after it was able to strengthen itself. Changing tactics, Mel buffeted the Makuhita repeatedly with gusts of wind. Waiting for the opportune time, Brawly's Makuhita grabbed Mel and flung her to the ceiling dealing serious damage. "Mel!" Zipo cried out rushing to his Pokemon's aid.

"Don't worry about me Zipo! I'm not done yet," Mel replied. Healing her up, she continued to launch wave after wave of strong winds at the advancing Makuhita. Judging by its condition, it would go down once the next attack struck, but of course, a strong Pokemon like that wouldn't go down so easily.

"Alright Mel, we've got this in the bag" Zipo called out. "One more gust should do it then he'll go down to poison!"

Smirking Brawly said "I wouldn't be so sure, you shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch." Upon uttering these words, Mel had gotten off her gust, bringing the Makuhita down to its last legs. "Now Makuhita," Brawly said. "Reversal!" His Makuhita then proceeded to land a punch on Mel, sending her flying into the Gym wall raining rocks down ontop of her. It then proceeded to slump to the ground, defeated.

With wide eyes, Zipo slowly turned around towards the back wall before rushing over to help his Pokemon. "Mel" he cried out tossing the rocks away. Gently picking her up with tears in his eyes, "Mel I'm so sorry!"

Giving off a slight flutter of her wings Mel said, "What is there to be sorry about Zipo? We won didn't we? For that you should be glad."

Sniffling he replied, "I'll get you to a Pokemon Center Mel! Just hold on a bit longer."

Shaking her head she quietly replied, "That won't help Zipo. It's time for me to take my leave. You are a special kid, and in time, you will learn why this is happening to you. Zipo, I want to thank you for taking me from that forest and treating me so kindly. Now pick your head up and hold it high. I want you to continue on this journey." With her last breaths she gave him some final advice. "When everything seems lost and you're at the end of the road. I want you to remind yourself, to never give up, and never stop fighting." Uttering those last words, the slow fluttering of her wings ceased and her body grew limp.

Hugging her close to his body, Zipo stammered, "No... Mel you can't be gone... We were supposed to be a team forever..."

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Laying in the sand, Zipo just stared at his second badge, wanting nothing more then to crush it. The memory of getting it was continuously playing in his head, like a movie, except it was stuck at the most depressing part.

Stuffing the badge in his pocket, he grudgingly got up on his feet. Sighing to himself and looking over to the fresh grave, he fought against the tears that he knew would start falling. Slowly trudging away from the grave, he thought to himself, How could this have gone so wrong? Pokemon aren't supposed to die when defeated in battle, they're just supposed to faint, right? What did Mel mean by, "I'm a special kid?" Not paying attention to where he was going, he accidentally bumped into Mr. Briney.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Zipo said, quickly apologizing. "I wasn't watching where I was going."

"It's quite alright my boy. It would seem that you have a lot on your mind," said Mr. Briney. "Although, you shouldn't dwindle on past events because you can't see where to go unless you keep looking forward. Now, if I remember correctly, you also have a package to deliver in Slateport. Climb aboard and I'll get you there quickly."

"Thanks a lot, Mr. Briney," Zipo replied, stepping onto the boat.

Setting off for Slateport with the wind whipping past him, Zipo just stared off towards the sunset. Deciding he should let his Pokemon stretch their legs a bit, he sent them all out before heading off to sleep.

"So, anyone else notice Zipo isn't his usual self?" Rez asked.

"No duh the Boss isn't feeling to good" Emile said. "I mean, we lost a great friend today. I'm surprised he isn't more upset."

"He may not act like it on the outside, but on the inside he is mourning Mel's death greatly" Rez said.

"He shouldn't beat himself up over it, though," Christie said. "He made the good call keeping her in. None of us could take the damage that Brawly was dishing out. It was just really unlucky that he got that hit in when Mel's guard was open."

"I shall avenge our friend's death," shouted Poseidon. "Once I evolve, those gym leaders won't be able to take another of our friends' lives!"

"You say that, but what if you don't make it that far?" Tobi asked. "What if you're taken out just like Mel was?"

Chuckling a bit at this, Poseidon responded rather coolly, "If it happens it happens, I guess. But I have faith in our trainer, and I know that he's going to push himself more to keep us safe."

"Lets just hope that he doesn't push himself too hard," Rez said before falling asleep on the deck.

Chapter 5: Pillaging of the Pirates

Departing from the ship with a yawn, Zipo stepped onto yet another beach. Looking around, he saw people doing various activities, such as building sand castles, tanning, or battling. Slinging his pack over his shoulder, Zipo headed off towards Slateport, where he could drop off the Devon Goods.

“Hello, is anyone here?” Zipo called out, entering the shipyard.

“Ah hello there, how can I help you?” A man said while staring over some blueprints.

“I was looking for Captain Stern; do you have any idea where I could find him?” Zipo asked.

“Oh, you're looking for the Captain. You must have the Devon Goods. I'm Dock, Stern's assistant. Last I saw, Stern was heading to the museum; why don't you check there for him,” Dock said.

“Will do, thanks Dock,” Zipo thanked, leaving the shipyard. As he was walking towards the museum, Zipo just happened to catch a glimpse of someone wearing blue entering the establishment. Zipo thought to himself, It can't be... what would Team Aqua want in a museum?

Walking briskly into the museum, sure enough he was met with the sight of a dozen Team Aqua members inside. Most of them though seemed to be acting nonchalantly and were just looking at the objects around the museum. Although, one grunt did recognize him.

“What are you doing here?!” The grunt exclaimed. “Look, I don't want any trouble! Have this TM, it suits you more than me!” he said handing over the TM. “I hope I never see you again!” the grunt exclaimed again before rushing out of the museum.

“What a strange guy,” Zipo remarked to himself. Heading upstairs, Zipo found a man staring at a ship.

“Um, excuse me sir; would you happen to be Captain Stern?” Zipo asked.

“Yes that would be me,” Stern said. “What can I help you with?”

“I have these Devon Goods to deliver to you, sir,” Zipo said, reaching in his pack for them. At that moment two grunts barged into the room.

“Hold it” they exclaimed. “We'll be taking those parts!”

“Wh-what? Who are you people?” Captain Stern asked.

“They're a group of thugs doing bad things to good people” Zipo told the Captain.

“Enough with the talking! We're taking those parts,” the grunts said, sending out their Pokemon.

“You know, I'm really not in the mood for you thugs right now,” Zipo said scowling. Throwing out Emile, Zipo held him up on his palm shooting down the grunt's Pokemon with Bullet Seeds.

“Agh! I didn't expect to be interrupted by some meddling kid. We need those parts otherwise the Boss will be furious!” the grunt shouted. Suddenly a man in the same sort of outfit as the grunt's walked in. He seemed to demand attention, an air of an executive swirled about his physique.

“Tch. I came to see what was taking you so long to snag some parts” the Boss said “and it seems that you simps are being help up by a mere child?” Turning towards Zipo, the boss hailed, “We are Team Aqua, and we love the sea! I am Team Aqua's leader, Archie! Why do you interfere with us? You can't be a member of Team Magma, you're not dressed in their goofy looking costumes... ."

Team Magma? Zipo thought to himself. They must be another group like Team Aqua. “My name is Zipo, and I'm interfering because you're attempting to do horrible things!”

“Well, Zipo, Pokemon and people, they both depend on the sea. Team Aqua is dedicated to the expansion of the sea. Don't you agree that what we are doing is a magnificent undertaking?” Archie asked with a glimmer in his eyes.

“I don't agree! Are you stupid? Without land where would people and Pokemon live?” Zipo replied.

“You are still too young to understand our noble objective. But I warn you, don't even consider interfering with our plans again. The consequences will cost you... dearly. Don't forget this meeting, boy,” Archie said with obvious menace before leaving the museum with his grunts.

“Are you alright Captain Stern?” Zipo asked, shakily.

“Yes--yes I'm quite alright. Thank you, my boy," the captain's face was filled with fear even after the crime lord had left. "So, your name was Zipo?"

“Yeah,” Zipo said handing over the Devon Goods. "I was sent to deliver these to you, as a gift from the Devon Corporation."

“Oh, yes, these were exactly what I needed for the submarine!” His eyes filled with childish glee as he took the parts from the boy. “There is no time to lose; we have to set out on our ocean-floor expedition posthaste. Thanks again, but I must run! Feel free to wander around and check out our facilities, though.”

“I'll be seeing you, sir. Good luck on your expedition!” Zipo called to the departing man. Stepping out of the museum, Zipo was stopped by Scott.

“Huh? I'm sure we've met somewhere before...” Scott thought aloud, perplexed that he did not remember such a trainer.

“We have; back at Petalburg City. You remarked on my unstained clothing.”

“Ah yes, you were that rookie trainer. If I hadn't introduced myself before, my name is Scott. I just saw Team Aqua run away from here like they were stung. Let me take a wild guess and say you drove them away?” He asked.

“Yep, that was me. They weren't too tough at all,” Zipo said.

Turning away, Scott started talking to himself. “Hmm. Maybe, just maybe. This trainer...” Turning back to Zipo again, he told Zipo. “Alright! I think you might be worth the investment. Here's my number; I'll be sure to keep track of you,” Scott said.

“O... kay?” Zipo was extremely confused as he handed the strange man his PokeNav.

“Excellent. Well, as much as I'd like to tag along with you, I still have to keep an eye out for others like you, so I'll keep in touch. Let's meet again sometime, alright? Good." And he was gone just as quickly as he'd come.

Zipo was troubled with all these strange encounters; what did it mean? Aqua actually thought their dastard plan was noble? What did Scott mean by "worth the investment"? He began contemplating these as he set off to the Pokemon Center, to the heavens, and on towards tomorrow.

Chapter 6: Toughen Up Cupcake

Departing onwards to route 110, Zipo encountered a small, green looking Pokemon with a yellow stripe running down its side. Capturing the Electrike, Zipo learned of its energized personality and of its name, Psyche. Continuing along the route, Zipo ran into none other then Professor Birch.

“Oh, Zipo! Imagine seeing you here, haha,” the professor laughed. “And where might May be?”

“May? I'm not sure; we've been traveling separately... Although, I've seen her a few times,” Zipo explained.

“Ah, well, that's fine. I heard that you've received a PokeNav! Why don't we register each other, that way you can check in with me on your progress as a trainer?” Birch proposed.

“Sure thing, professor,” Zipo agreed, handing over his PokeNav.

“Alright, Zipo. Please keep an eye out for, May will you?” Birch asked, a slight hint of worry in his voice.

“I'll do my best, sir,” Zipo answered, scratching the back of his head.

“Good. Well, I had better get going. See you again, Zipo!” the professor called as he walked off.

“Yeah, see ya!” Zipo said as he waved.

Continuing along the route, Zipo called out Poseidon, deciding to talk to the small orange carp.

“So Poseidon, how are you liking the team?” Zipo asked.

“Well, I am enjoying myself. I find this team suitable for someone like me,” Poseidon said as he struggled to keep up with Zipo as he swam.

“Someone like you? Not to burst your bubble, but you're not exactly the strongest on the team,” Zipo said chuckling.

“Oh is that so?” Poseidon asked before quickly diving underwater.

Rushing to the edge of the water, Zipo tried to see where his Pokemon had gone. Oh great, I just made him run away, Zipo thought to himself. Then he saw a big shadow rising to the surface. Backing away from the edge of the route, he gaped in awe as a giant Pokemon that rose out of the water.

“I think you should retract that statement, mortal,” Poseidon said.

“Woah, Poesidon! You evolved! I guess I do owe you an apology, haha," Zipo said while laughing. “I'm sorry Poseidon. Now let's head out.”

Further on in the route, Zipo encountered May, who was busy training her Pokemon.

“Hey, May!” Zipo called out.

Turning around, May noticed Zipo there. “Oh, hey Zipo! Long time no see! I've been training and my Pokemon have gotten stronger; want to have a battle?” She asked Zipo.

“Uh.. Sure thing May” Zipo said, sending out Rez.

"Let's fire this up," Rez said, letting out a small Ember.

May sent out Lombre in retaliation. "Lombre's half water-type makes fire neutral!"

"Light up the night," Rez jumped towards the water/grass hybrid, sending out a flurry of Pecks. The Pokemon fainted before it even knew what hit it.

“That's quite the powerful Combusken you have there, Zipo! Let's see how he does against another fire type!” May shouted as she sent out her Slugma.

“Come get some, sludge ball,” Rez taunted. The slug fell to after a flurry of pecks and kicks.

Zipo rejoiced and called to May, "Hey, you really think you got this?"

A bit flustered, May retorted, “I-I can do this. Don't count your chickens before they hatch...!” She sent out her Marshtomp, who looked eager to defeat Rez.

Blankly staring at May, Zipo was stunned. “Wh-what did you say?” His mind reeling back to his battle with Brawly.

“"Alright Mel, we've got this in the bag!" Zipo called out. "One more gust should do it. Then he'll go down to poison!"

Smirking, Brawly said, "I wouldn't be so sure; you shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch." Upon uttering these words, Mel had gotten off her gust. "Now, Makuhita," Brawly called, "Reversal!" His Makuhita then proceeded to land a punch on Mel, sending her flying into the Gym wall, raining rocks down on top of her. [i/]

“No... it's gonna happen again,” Zipo said shaking.

“Zipo, get you crap back together and help me out here,” Rez shouted, doging a water gun. “Give me a command or something, goddammit!” Missing with a swipe of his claw, Rez narrowly dodged another water gun. “Get your head in the game!”

“No... I can't do this, I'm not fit for this...” Zipo said, slowly backing away.

"Alright! Enough of this,” Rez shouted charging at his trainer. “Zipo! Let's see you grit those teeth!” Jumping up in the air, Rez quickly came down, belting Zipo in the face. “Listen to me, Zipo. Nobody blames you for what happened to Mel. It's sad that she's gone, but you have to quit blaming yourself. I promise you if you ever get like that again I'll belt you another one.”

Rubbing the side of his face, Zipo smiled at his Pokemon. “Thanks, Rez. I needed that. Now, let's show May, no, the world what we're made of!” Zipo shouted.

“Now we're talking,” said Rez smiling.

With newly found strength, Zipo shouted to his Pokemon, “Rez! Double Kick, now!” The chicken fighter's foot connected with the bipedal mud fish with astounding results; the thing was instantly knocked out.

"Ah..." May was in shock. "Y-you! I will get you back one day! You think you can just waltz around destroying others dreams? If you do, you've got another one coming to you!" She ran away after that outburst, leaving Zipo in shock.

Throwing his hands behind his head, he asked Rez, "Do you think it's a bad thing we beat her?"

"Who knows." Rez was just as confused as his trainer. He gave him that look that just said, "Chicks."

Zipo smiled. "Thanks for that during the battle. It's what I really needed." He and his Pokemon walked off to the rest of the grassy maze.

  • 2 weeks later...

(What is this? I almost forgot to update here, two chapters incomming.)

Chapter 7: Shocked into Submission

Casually strolling into Mauville City, Zipo took a look around observing his surroundings. As he scanned the area, his eyes rested upon the Gym. More specifically, who was in front of the Gym. It was none other then Wally! As Zipo walked up to him, he noticed that Wally seemed to be in deep discussion with someone.

“Aww, Uncle, please?” Wally pleaded with his Uncle. “I want to challenge the gym and see how much better I've become. Please? May I, Please?”

“Hang on a second Wally. Since you've started living together with Pokemon, you have grown stronger, but I don't think you're quite ready to face a Gym.” His Uncle explained.

“But Uncle! With Ralts by my side we can beat anyone!” Wally said with a glimmer in his eyes.

Softly coughing to gain the attention of the two of them, Zipo provided his own thoughts. “If I may, I'd like to voice my own opinion.”

“Oh hi Zipo! I've gotten a lot stronger since we met” Wally said.

“I bet you've gotten stronger, but if you only have Ralts then I'm not sure you'll succeed” Zipo told him.

“You don't understand how powerful we are! I'll prove it to you with a battle!” Wally shouted throwing out his Ralts which looked eager to prove itself too.

“Alright Wally, have it your way, but I'm not going to go easy on you!” Zipo shouted sending out Christy.

Although eagerness is well received, it wasn't enough for Wally and his Ralts this battle. Christy clamped down on the Pokemon biting down on it hard Knocking it out instantly.

“Well that was quicker then expected” Zipo said scratching the back of his head. “Well done Christy.”

“I do my best Zipo” Christy said happily.

“I guess I lost... thanks for the battle though Zipo.” Turning to his Uncle, Wally apologized. “I'm sorry Uncle, being a trainer is harder then I thought. I'll go back home now.”

“Now Wally you don't need to be so hard on yourself” his Uncle said reassuring him. “There isn't anything keeping you from becoming stronger and stronger. All you have to do is get stronger and then you'll be ready.”

“Exactly, all you need is a little more experience and you'll be a great trainer” Zipo said patting him on the back.

“Alright then, that's just what I'll do! I'll get stronger! Thanks for your help and kindness Zipo, but I have to go now. I hope I'll see you again soon” Wally said waving goodbye.

“You too Wally!” Zipo shouted back to him waving goodbye. Turning his sights to the Gym new thoughts bloomed in his head. I'll be sure to beat this Gym without any casualties. All I have to do is keep my head level and think of a suitable plan of attack. Mauville City Gym, here I come!

Passing through the Gym with ease, Zipo was almost at Wattson. While Rez was battling a Magnemite, Zipo was having a chat with Tobi. “Tobi I don't think you should be out while we're in an electric Gym, it's kinda dangerous” Zipo said concerned.

“Oh please, I can handle anything they throw at me” Tobi said with much bravado. Then a Meditite came from nowhere going for Tobi with electricity swirling around its fist. Simply batting it away with a wing attack Tobi was unfazed. Tobi then started glowing until in his place was a larger bat.

“Nice job Tobi!” Zipo said congratulating his Pokemon.

“I told you I could handle anything they threw at me” Tobi said landing on Zipo's shoulder.

“Alright, alright, you were right. Now get back in the ball, I don't want to risk you against Wattson” Zipo said returning Tobi to his Pokeball.

Sending out Rez, Zipo had a little pre-battle chat with him. “Rez this Gym battle is all up to you. I know I can count on you, and I just wanted to tell you I got your back.”

“Why are you telling me stuff I already know Zipo? I already knew you got my back and I got yours. We're in this together, now lets go get us another Badge” Rez said getting fired up.

“Hahaha, so a challenger has made it past my puzzle? Well then shall we let the battle commence?” Wattson asked tossing out his Voltorb.

Nodding to Zipo, Rez led off leaping into the air and kicking the Voltorb sending it flying into the wall knocking it out instantly.

“Nicely done challenger! Now go Electrike!” Watson commanded sending out his next Pokemon.

Smirking, Rez said “let's set fire to the sky.” Rez opened his mouth spewing out fire into the air, all of it moving like it was a living creature. It then moved and wrapped itself around the Electrike knocking it out as well.

“Interesting! Let's see how you fare against this” Wattson shouted sending out his Magneton.

Rez responded by doing much of the same thing he had done before. The only difference was this time Wattson's Pokemon lived. It then Paralyzed Rez with a Thunder Wave. “Rez! Catch!” Zipo shouted tossing him a Paralyze Heal.

“Thanks partner!” Rez quickly sprayed himself down and finished off the Magneton with another Ember.

“This is turning out to be quite the battle! It would seem I'm down to my final Pokemon” Wattson remarked throwing out his Manectric. It snarled at Rez clearly not afraid of him.

Scoffing at this, Rez said “looks like somebody's got a little backbone. Maybe you'll be a challenge.”

The two slowly circled each other waiting for the other to make the first move. Wattson's Manectric attacked first with a Quick Attack which Rez narrowly dodged. Responding quickly with an Ember, Rez blasted it back to it's original position. While it was getting up, Rez leaped into the air landing a kick on it sending it across the floor with it's nails digging into the ground. The Manectric unleashed a Shock Wave attack which Rez attempted to dodge, but it seemed to follow him landing a hit. It then followed up with a Quick Attack leaving Rez on the ground. Casually walking up to him to deliver the final blow, Wattson's Manectric readied another Shock Wave. Rez countered with a powerful Ember attack which surrounded the Manectric burning it. The Manectric attempted to unleash one final Quick Attack but it was finished off mid attack by the burn.

“Well done! I concede defeat and give to you the Dynamo Badge! Oh and here's a little something extra from me, it's the TM Shock Wave. You might have noticed in our battle how the wave seemed to follow your Pokemon. Well that's because it can never miss!” Wattson explained to Zipo.

“Thanks a lot sir” Zipo said waving goodbye to the Gym Leader. Stepping out into the breeze, Zipo looked at his partner with a wide grin on his face. “Nice job Rez, it couldn't have gone any better.”

“You got that right, now wipe that grin off your face, you look like an idiot” Rez said grinning.

The winds of chance have changed seemingly in Zipo's favor. The only question is will they stay blowing that way, or will they shift once again?

Chapter 8: Trouble in the Falls

Heading north, Zipo continued his journey. Walking, running, biking, and even taking a nap or two, he was progressing towards his next Gym battle. Unfortunately for him, He'd have to encounter a little detour before he could advance. Quickly capturing a Numel, it was sent to the PC. He then trudged up the stairs. Reaching the peak of the stairs, he noticed some people in red by the cable cars.

Who are those people in red blocking the entrance to the cable cars? Zipo thought to himself. Judging by their outfits I would say that they're part of Team Magma! I guess it's time to teach them a lesson.

"Hey Team Magma! Quit blocking the way!" Zipo shouted at them.

"Move along kid, there's some operating being done on this cable car so we're just waiting here to make sure nobody gets hurt. We're the good guys" one of the grunts explained.

Looking past them to the cable car station, Zipo had his suspicions. "If you say so... But I'm keeping an eye on you" Zipo said turning back. Sighing to himself he thought, what am I going to do now? The cable car system is the only way I could get to the Gym. Scanning across the landscape with his eyes, Zipo noticed a cave dug out into the mountain. Entering the cave, he noticed that it was very straight forward. Walking through the path, he tripped over what he thought to be a rock at first, but was instead a turtle shell. Tossing the Poke ball at the sleeping Torkoal, Zipo sent him to the PC.

Continuing on, out of the cave and down the route, Zipo thought he might as well get some training in. Throwing out Tobi, he quickly defeated each wild Pokemon that came towards him. As Tobi took down the last Numel, he started shimmering in the sunlight.

"That's odd" Zipo said to himself. "I didn't think Golbat could evolve." Watching his evolving Pokemon, Zipo was eager to see what Tobi would become. As the shimmering subsided, in his old Pokemons place was a slightly smaller Pokemon. Although it was smaller, Zipo could tell that it was a lot stronger. It's extra wings most likely to be used for new attacks or to give his Pokemon more stamina. "You see new things every day" Zipo remarked, "I guess the Zubat line isn't so bad after all."

"You got that right" Tobi said hovering in place, "there's more to us then people expect."

Continuing on with Tobi flying by his side, Zipo stepped into what appeared to be ashy grass. "Hmm I guess the soot from the volcano gets carried down here by the wind" Zipo said observing the area. Plodding through the tainted grass, Zipo was keeping an eye out for a potentially new teammate. Gazing at his surroundings, he noticed what appeared to be a metallic bird. "Whoa what is that?" Zipo asked quizzically.

"That is a rare find" Tobi remarked. "That would be a Skarmory, they're very rare. I wonder what one is doing down here..."

"Does it really matter? I think it would make a great addition to our team" Zipo said readying a Pokeball. Catching the bird off-guard, Zipo lobbed the Pokeball at it catching it without much resistance.

"That's odd too" Tobi said. "Skarmorys should put up more of a fight then that. Something must be wrong with it."

"Yeah that was a little too easy" Zipo said looking at the Pokeball. "Well we wont learn anything just standing here, we might was well talk to it to figure out what was wrong." Tossing the Pokeball, out rose the metallic bird.

"Tch, just my luck being caught by a human while I wasn't at my prime" scoffed the Skarmory.

"Not at your prime? What do you mean?" Asked Zipo.

"Well I guess you could say I had a stroke of bad luck. I got into a fight with another Skarmory and we clashed wings, so to speak. He got lucky and hit me while my guard was down and ripped out my feathers" the Skarmory said gesturing to his metallic wings. "So with my inability to fly or fight well, I was named Fallen and was kicked out of the family."

"Well, uh, Fallen. If you'd like, you could stay with us" Zipo said. "I'm sure your wings will grow back in no time, and until them we'll protect you."

Bowing his head towards Zipo, Fallen said, "I thank you for your kindness, and I humbly accept your offer."

"Alright then it's settled, lets keep moving forward." Zipo said with his new teammate tagging along beside him.

Acting as bodyguard, Emile escorted the two of them towards their next destination. Shooting away all opponents with a storm of bullets, the team left a path of destruction in their wake. As a result, Emile glowed with a great ferocity. In the mushroom's place was now a larger version of it's previous self. The only exception was that now it had limbs, most likely used for punching, a tail, and a pretty cool hat. "Now boss, what do you say we get out of this wasteland?" Emile said smirking and tipping his hat.

Lightly coughing, Zipo stepped out of the sooted over grass and arrived in Fallarbor Town. "I'm glad we're out of there" Zipo said still coughing.

"You humans don't adapt very quickly do you?" Fallen asked. "Pokemon from other areas aren't bothered much by this kind of climate."

"Yeah well.... Shut up" Zipo said looking away. "Now, time for some training, you need to get stronger."

Slowly training on the Pokemon that showed themselves, Fallen pecked the enemies into submission since his wings were useless at the present time. Taking his eyes off of Fallen, Zipo gazed around for anything more interesting. His eyes stopped at the entrance to Meteor Falls. He could've sworn that he had seen a flash of red entering the falls. Quickly grabbing Fallen, Zipo traversed the rugged landscape entering the falls.

Trying his best to act stealthy, Zipo hid behind the rocks, moving silently behind each one until he had a clear view of what was occurring. What he saw appeared to be a few Magma grunts with a frightened scientist. Zipo could just barely make out what the grunt was saying though.

"With this Meteorite, that thing in Mt. Chimney will..." the grunt said. It was getting harder to hear the grunt so Zipo tried moving up more. Accidentally slipping on a rock and falling with a loud crash, the grunts turned around quickly seeing him there. "I don't know who you are, but if you get in the way of Team Magma, don't expect any mercy!" The grunt shouted at him. Just as the grunt was about to unleash his Pokemon, a shout came from the other end of the cave.

"Hold it right there!" Shouted the voice. "If you think you can do what you want with this world without a fight, then you've got another thing coming!" Trying to focus on who was shouting, Zipo zeroed in on the target, revealing it to be none other then Archie.

"What a surprise, Team Aqua is here too" the Magma grunt said. Acting a bit nervous he said, "It would be too much trouble to take all of you on, but it doesn't matter! We already have what we came for" the grunt said before running off.

Carefully studying Zipo's face, Archie asked him. "Have I met you before? At the Slateport Museum?"

Shakily getting up dusting himself off, Zipo replied to the Aqua leader. "My name is Zipo, and we did meet at the Museum."

Scratching the back of his head, Archie said. "I thought you were a Magma grunt back then. Guess I was wrong, haha" he said laughing. "But you are one odd kid. Just warning you, Team Magma is a dangerous group of fanatics wanting to expand the land until it completely takes over the sea! The complete opposite of our goal!" Archie shouted with a twinkle in his eye.

"Both of your groups are a bit insane in my opinion" Zipo said. "Both of you would be destroying habitats for Pokemon either way. What would you gain from making the world all water or all land anyway?" Zipo asked quizzically.

Just as he was about to answer, Archie was interrupted by one of his henchmen. "Sir, we should really be going after Team Magma" the grunt said.

"Yes, we must right away! There's no time to lose!" Turning back towards Zipo, Archie uttered a warning. "Zipo, get it through your head that we're the good guys. Don't be fooled by Team Magma's tricks. In the end, I know you'll pick the right side. Until then!" Archie said leaving with his men.

Approaching the frightened scientist, Zipo helped him up off the ground. "You're safe now sir" Zipo reassured him. "My name is Zipo, and you are?"

"M-my name is Cozmo" he stammered out. "Team Magma threatened me so I had no choice but to guide them here. They attacked me once I had led them here and they took my meteorite" Cozmo explained. "Then that other group, Team Aqua, showed up. After that I don't really understand any of it" he said pushing his glasses back up to his eyes. "But Team Magma are going to Mt. Chimney for sure, they said something about using the meteorite there."

"Hmmm, what could they be using that meteorite for?" Zipo asked aloud. "Alright Cozmo, why don't you head home and get a bit of rest, you need it after what you've gone through. I'll head after those thugs."

Departing from the cave, Zipo stared up at the mountain casting it's shadow over the town. With his next destination in sight, what awaits him at the peak, and what challenges will he have to face.

Chapter 9: Blazing Inferno

Stepping out of the Fiery Path, Zipo looked over to the cable car station. The grunts appeared to be gone, so Zipo headed for the station. Climbing onto the rickety cable car, it swayed slightly before embarking towards the peak. Remarking at the sight before him, Zipo couldn't help but think, this is an amazing view. Exiting the car, Zipo stepped onto the peak and was covered by a thin veil of soot raining down. Peering across the landscape, he could see members from both Team Aqua and Magma having battles and being locked in a standstill. Still gazing around, he saw Archie locked into combat with a few Magma grunts.

"Ah Zipo I see you've finally arrived," shouted Archie.

"Y-yeah! I'm here now," Zipo replied reaching for his Pokemon.

"You don't need to worry about me," Archie said not breaking his concentration from the battle at hand. "The guy you need to worry about is over there by the edge of the volcano. Take him out and these grunts will crumble!"

"Alright Archie, thanks for the tip, you just keep holding off these guards," Zipo said passing Archie by.

"Will do kid, just don't let me down," Archie replied with a hearty chuckle.

Quickly blowing through the few grunts the Magma leader had protecting him, Zipo soon stood face to face with the leader. "Stop right there," Zipo commanded him.

Slowly turning around, he scoffed at this youngster trying to tell him who's boss. "Who do you think you are trying to command me? My name is Maxie and if you talk so tough then prove it."

"Alright then Maxie, my name is Zipo and I'll show you what I can do," Zipo shouted readying a Pokeball.

The battle soon commenced with Maxie sending out a Mightyena, and Zipo following up by sending out Rez. Snarling fiercely at Rez, the Mightyena lunged at him snapping its jaws at him. Quickly sidestepping the attack, Rez powerfully kicked the ferocious dog in the jaw sending it sliding back to its trainer.

"Tch. Seems there's more to you then meets the eye, but lets see how your chicken does when the ground is sunken from beneath him" Maxie said sending out a Camerupt.

Worried about this comment Maxie made, Zipo recalled Rez back and tossed Poseidon out onto the field. "MORTAL, THIS SHALL BE OVER QUICKLY," Poseidon said in a booming voice. Harnessing the power of the nature around him, Poseidon unleashed a volley of rocks upon the unsuspecting Pokemon knocking it out instantly.

Returning his fainted Pokemon, Maxie sent out a Zubat. Zipo responded by sending out Tobi, to deal with the small bat. Simply batting it away with a gust of wind, Tobi was victorious over the frail Zubat.

"Seems like I took you for granted," Maxie said recalling his Pokemon. "You win this time, but mark my words I will be back." With that he departed leaving Zipo next to the mouth of the volcano.

Archie then made his way up to Zipo with a grin on his face. "Zipo! Nice going, with your help we sent them running!"

"It was nothing really," Zipo replied scratching his head.

"Yeah, I guess it was nothing," Archie said with a chuckle. "But I have to ask you, whose side are you on?" Looking away and then turning back, Archie just shrugged. "It doesn't really matter though I guess, we had better go. I'll be seeing you Zipo!" Team Aqua departed soon after leaving Zipo alone on the volcano.

Carefully removing the meteorite from the device situated on top of the volcano, Zipo deactivated it. Pocketing the meteorite he then began his long hike back down the mountain, onwards towards the next town.

For some odd reason, Zipo thought it was a good idea to bike down the volcano. Unfortunately for him, there were many ledges along the way and he lost control. Face-planting in the ground, a Pokeball flew out of his bag capturing a Machop. Climbing to his feet and dusting himself off, Zipo jumped down the final ledge and strolled into Lavaridge Town.

From what Zipo could see, this town was similar to most other towns except for the fact that this one had a hot spring. Walking over to it, Zipo could feel the heat radiating from the springs. An old woman gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. "Excuse me young man, but I happened to notice that you were a trainer. So would you mind taking this Pokemon egg?" She asked him holding out the egg.

"S-sure thing ma'am," he replied taking the egg. "What Pokemon will hatch from it?" He asked the woman.

"I don't know, but you'll find out when it hatches," she said smiling.

Carefully putting the egg in his pack to protect it from harm, Zipo turned his sights on the Gym and entered. He quickly noticed the change in temperature since it went from warm to blisteringly hot in a few seconds. He deduced from the heat that this environment would suit Fire types well, so his logical choice would be to choose Poseidon.

Easily breezing through the trainers in the Gym, Zipo was soon faced with the person who could only be the gym leader, Flannery. "Welcome," she said to Zipo. Turning away she quickly reconsidered her choice of words. "No wait... that's not right." Pondering for a moment she turned back to Zipo, "Puny trainer! How good to see you've made it here!"

"Uh are you alright?" Zipo asked the Gym leader. "You seem a bit flustered."

"Ohhh," she said putting a hand to her head. "I'm kinda new at this so I don't know if I should be intimidating or not."

"Hmmm, well I think you should just be yourself," Zipo said. "I don't see why you should be anyone other then who you really are."

"Alright then! My name is Flannery and I'm the fire type Gym leader!" Quickly reaching for a Pokeball on her belt, she snatched it up and released a Numel to the floor. "Get ready to get scorched," she said with a fire in her eyes.

Tossing his own Pokeball in the air, Zipo released Poseidon. Swatting the small Pokemon with his tail, Poseidon knocked it out by launching it into the Gym wall with his tail and finishing it with a large fireball. Sending out a Slugma next, Poseidon simply swatted it away with his tail without much resistance.

"This isn't looking good, but lets see how you fare against a much tougher opponent," she said sending out a Camerupt. Firmly rooting itself in the ground and bracing itself against attacks, her Camerupt released a fiery attack straight at Poseidon. Dodging the fire easily, Poseidon turned to the Camerupt unscathed.

"What was an attack like that going to do?" Zipo asked Flannery. "Poseidon is way faster then a slow moving attack like that!"

Grinning she responded by pointing to the ceiling above the battlefield, "Maybe I wasn't aiming for your Gyarados!" Whipping his head upwards, he was just in time to see the fire explode upon impact with the ceiling leaving a large gap in the roof. This gap allowed the sunlight to stream through uninterrupted. Charging up a large ball of fire, Poseidon released it again hitting the Camerupt square in the chest knocking it back to its trainer. "Well done getting this far," she called out, "but this battle isn't over yet!"

Sending out her Torkoal, it stood strong in the sunlight seeming to command authority and gain power. Retracting into its shell, the Torkoal quickly spun in place gaining speed until launching itself at Poseidon. Not expecting such speed from a slow moving Pokemon, Poseidon was struck off guards head on and crashed to the ground. Slowly getting up from the hit, Poseidon became enrage and spewed fireball after fireball at the Pokemon earning direct hits each time. The Torkoal seemed to be slowing down, and with great fury, Poseidon swung fiercely at the opposing Pokemon with his tail. Just as Poseidon was about to make contact, his tail stopped and his body twitched. This was due to the shock of the attack earlier. The Torkoal took this opportunity to charge up what could only be a last resort move. Engulfing itself in flames, the Torkoal was charging up power to deal with Poseidon. Regaining mobility, Poseidon swung down at the Torkoal with great force driving it into the ground leaving a small crater.

"Aww... I lost," Flannery said sadly returning her unconscious Pokemon.

"Don't beat yourself up," Zipo said grinning, "I had a great time."

Perking up a bit at this comment, Flannery grinned a bit. "Well I'm glad you enjoyed it, I had a good time too. Since you beat me you can have the Heat Badge!"

Gently taking the badge from her, Zipo thanked her. "Thank you Flannery. Just one more thing before I go, remember to always be yourself when you're battling. It doesn't make sense to be someone you're not. Now I had better go, good luck with being a Gym Leader Flannery!"

Turning around ready to leave, he was suddenly hugged from behind. "Thank you Zipo, you're a really nice guy. Do you think maybe... you could stay a little longer?" Flannery asked him still hugging him.

Chapter 10: Burning Ambition

Resting in the shade of a nearby tree, Zipo was gently holding his newly made love interest, and was reflecting on the events that had just occurred. He was about to just leave the gym when he was confronted by Flannery. The things that happened afterwards were a bit of a blur to him. There was a dinner, and a nice long conversation in the hot-springs, ending with the two lovebirds under the tree relaxing. They were both happy, but someone was going to tear that happiness apart.

Stretching a bit Zipo nudged Flannery. “I had a really great time Flannery, but I have to get going,” Zipo said. “I still have to defeat the other Gym leaders and beat the Pokemon League.”

Looking at him sadly, Flannery only nodded. “I guess you do have to go... I'll miss you a lot Zipo.”

“I'll miss you too Flannery, but I'll be sure to visit when I have time,” he said smiling.

Grinning a bit, she replied “you had better! Otherwise I might get angry at you.” Standing up she pulled Zipo to his feet as well before pushing him towards the exit of town. “Now you'd better leave!”

Nearly tripping, he stumbled a bit before regaining his balance. “Alright then, goodbye Flannery!” With that he departed, leaving Flannery staring after him.

Jumping down the ledges east of town, Zipo looked behind him at the town he had just left. He was about to continue on his way when he noticed smoke rising into the sky above the town. “That can't be good...” He said aloud. Sprinting towards the cable car station, he could only hope that nothing bad would happen to the town or Flannery.

A few moments earlier....

Flannery had just seen her newly found love leave town, and hoped to find some solitude in her Gym. Entering the Gym, she slumped up against a wall in attempt to earn some rest. Unfortunately for her it was only bad timing that she decided to head back to the Gym at this time. Before Flannery could react, the Gym gave off a creaking sound and collapsed inwards on itself burying Flannery in the rubble.

The scene from outside was a mess. Flames covered the grass and the supporting structures of the gym had been melted through. Struggling past the debris, Flannery crawled out from the rubble badly bruised and weak before collapsing on the ground outside.

“Oh you poor girl, whatever shall I do?” A mysterious figure asked rhetorically. “Bad things happen when you touch things that don't belong to you.”

Looking up as best as she could, Flannery could only see the shadow of the person standing over her. Although, she could make out that is was a girl. “Wh-what are you talking about?” Flannery asked weakly.

“Zipo is mine, and you stole him from me. For that, you must pay. Now I believe it's time for you to go” the mysterious girl said. “Marshtomp, finish her. Rock tomb” she commanded. Her Marshtomp then proceeded to bury Flannery under mounds of rocks, leaving her for dead. They swiftly departed leaving without a trace, and without anyone but Flannery seeing them.

Unfortunately for Zipo, he sprinted through the treeline only to be met with the sight of a burning field, and a broken Gym. “Flannery!” He called out hoping for a response. Scanning the landscape for anything, his eyes rested on the mound of rocks just outside of the Gym. Running over to them, he pulled rocks away uncovering the battered and beaten body of Flannery. Gently lifting her out of the rock like coffin, he held her close to his body fighting back tears that would surely come.

“Zipo... Don't cry okay” Flannery said weakly from his arms. “You're stronger than that, you shouldn't be crying.” Smiling at him, tears fell from her eyes. “I'm glad I met you Zipo, even if it was for a short amount of time. You were so kind to me and I can't thank you enough.”

“No... Flannery... I'll... I'll get you some help” Zipo said with tears running down his cheeks. “You'll be fine, I promise!”

“Zipo... you're so nice... don't ever change” Flannery said slowly closing her eyes.

“Flannery don't go yet, stay with me” he said shaking her. “Who did this to you?”

“I... I don't know. She never said her name but she had brown hair and has a Marshtomp with her. Zipo... be careful okay? Be careful for me...” She said softly. With her final breaths said her head rolled to the side, her eyes shut, and she ceased breathing. Flannery was no more.

Crying over the body that lay in his arms, he swore vengeance on whoever did this, and he vowed to take their life as payment for the deed they committed. Several hours passed, and Zipo had dug out a hole in the ground. With tears no longer flowing, he buried Flannery and set out on his way again with darkness growing larger in his heart.

Petalburg... Time to go see dad. A dark air seemed to surround Zipo wherever he went now. Passing through routes, Pokemon would skirt away from him keeping their distance. Finally he arrived in Petalburg, where he would be able to get his next Gym Badge.

Plowing through the Trainers in the Gym, Zipo found his father, waiting patiently for an opponent. “Zipo! You've finally made it here” Norman said with a grin on his face. “I'm so proud of you! You've come a long way!”

“Yeah, yeah, sure.... Let's get this over with” Zipo muttered, his eyes never meeting his fathers.

“I see... Straightforward and to the point! I see how it is. Alright then Zipo, I won't go easy on you just because you're my son!” Tossing out his Spinda, he was ready for battle. “Now, let the battle begin!”

Throwing out Emile, Zipo started the battle by throwing some medicine at the Breloom. Using the medicine, Emile's attack would rise for the battle. Glaring at his opponent, Emile sped forwards unleashing a devastating punch, leaving the Spinda unconscious on the ground. Calling back his Spinda, Norman replaced it with a Vigoroth. Unfortunately, it went down just as easily as the Spinda. Returning his unconscious Pokemon once again, he unleashed his most powerful Pokemon, his Slaking. With a mighty yawn, Slaking entered the field looking extremely unsatisfied. Emile, hoping to finish off the battle quickly, sped forwards once again, punching the Slaking square in the gut. The Slaking stumbled back a bit before regaining balance. It swung with astounding speed and hit Emile across the field almost touching the wall of the Gym. Slaking gave yet another yawn, letting Emile have a wide open shot. Dashing forwards for the final time, Emile lashed out with his fist, catching the Slaking in the jaw. The Slaking fell backwards defeated earning Zipo a victory.

“Well done Zipo! Congratulations! You've beaten me, I didn't know you had it in you” Norman said chuckling. “With this victory, now you can continue to advance on your journey. What do you say we go get some food to celebrate? My treat.”

“No... Stay away from me!” Zipo commanded taking a step back.

Startled by this sudden outburst, Norman was speechless. “Wh-What are you saying?”

“Don't come near me. I don't need you” Zipo said scowling. “You were never there for me or Mom! You always cared about your Gym more than us!”

“Zipo... You know that's not tr-” Norman started saying before getting cut off.

“I don't want to hear it! You have no idea how much pain you've caused! So stay away from me, or else I will kill you” Zipo said before hastily exiting the Gym.

Norman was left there speechless, with the words of his son swimming through his head. The words of a boy, who's heart was crumbling into nothing.

Chapter 11: Failure Ensues

Advancing into Mauville City, the predicament Zipo was in hasn't improved. The blackness inside his heart is gnawing away at him, destroying all positive emotion, only leaving anguish and despair. The dark aura surrounding him seemed to only grow larger as he continued on, and attempts to cheer him up, made by his Pokemon, were all failing. Although, this dark air couldn't be seen easily by most others, unless of course, Zipo opened up to them, or they knew the events that occurred.

Wattson, the Gym leader, saw Zipo meandering through town and intercepted him. “Zipo my boy, long time no see” he exclaimed.

“Oh, hey there Wattson” Zipo said sullenly, “What have you been up to?”

“I was just about to head out to New Mauville, where we keep the generator. For some reason it's been turned off recently so we've had to resort to the above ground generator. Would you mind turning it back on for me? I'll give you a reward,” Wattson said grinning.

“Sure thing Wattson, I'll head out right now,” Zipo said turning back and exiting the town. Surfing across the water, Zipo cautiously entered New Mauville, dedicated to the task he was given. Progressing closer and closer towards the generator, Zipo's eyes shifted at the sight of a round object moving swiftly across the floor. Lobbing a Pokeball at it, Zipo captured the Pokemon without much resistance.

Tossing the Pokeball to the ground, he sent out his newly captured Pokemon. Out of the Pokeball came a nearly identical ball, the only difference was that it was a larger size. “Did I just capture a Pokeball using another Pokeball...?” He asked aloud.

“Not quite sir,” the ball said turning towards him. “I am a Voltorb trainer, and my name is Reggie. Although I am commonly confused for a Pokeball considering my shape and colors” Reggie said clarifying that he indeed was a Pokemon.

“Ah I see... a Voltorb. You're more commonly known for your... explosive nature,” Zipo said staring at the sphere.

“We typically are associated with that,” Reggie said, “Although you'll find that I for one wouldn't like exploding, considering the main result is death.”

“Well, that's good to know. Anyway since this is your home Reggie, could you lead me to the Generator?” Zipo asked the Pokemon.

“The Generator? And what would you want to be doing there?” Reggie replied with his own questions.

“To turn it on obviously, Mauville needs more power and Wattson told me to activate this Generator.” Zipo said looking around.

“Well you see... uhm”

“Zipo, that's my name,” Zipo told the Voltorb.

“Thank you. Well you see Zipo, that's a no can do. There's a reason why the generator keeps turning off. It's because it messes with the circuitry of the Pokemon around here. It attracts them to the Generator and fries their systems. So unfortunately, turning it on wouldn't be the greatest idea,” Reggie told Zipo hoping for an agreement.

“I'm sorry Reggie, but Wattson gave me a job to do, and I intend to see it through,” Zipo said once again turning to his Pokemon. “Now will you lead me to the Generator or not?”

Sighing, Reggie reluctantly agreed to his trainers demands. “I guess I don't really have a choice in the matter. Follow me Zipo, I'll lead you to the Generator.”

Advancing through the maze-like domain, the team found themselves before an imposing Generator. From the corner of his eye, Zipo could see the shapes of Pokemon, eagerly awaiting what his next move would be. Searching around, Zipo located the switch that would activate the Machine. Quickly returning Reggie to his ball, Zipo pressed the switch. With a whur of its parts, the Generator sprang to life with a roar of energy.

Turning his head back to the Pokemon hiding in the shadows, he could hear the screeching of metal grinding against the floor. The sounds coming closer and closer until a multitude of Pokemon were sent flying in the direction of the Generator. Magnemites and Magnetons were flung, clinging to the Generator having their very life force extracted from their bodies.

Attempting to leave the facility, Zipo was knocked to the ground by two Pokemon rushing forwards towards the Generator. Whipping his head around, Zipo identified the two Pokemon as fully grown Electrodes. Each of them stuck to a side of the Generator, concentrating greatly, soon glowing with a fierce light. Shielding his eyes from what was about to happen, Zipo was blown backwards as the two Electrodes exploded into a cloud of smoke, metal, and electric components raining down from the sky.

Once he regained his senses, Zipo looked surveyed the damage that was done. The Generator was completely destroyed and he could hear the creaking of the building around him, sounding as if it was about to collapse inwards on itself. Rushing outside, Zipo nearly avoided being buried alive in a metallic crypt. Steadily climbing to his feet, he dusted himself off checking to make sure everyone made it out alright. Staring across the lake, he could see a commotion crowding around the shore of the town. Not wanting to look Wattson in the eyes after his failure, Zipo dove in the water and swam away, heading towards his next destination.

“His progress is declining,” said a mysterious voice. “Maybe you should commune with him, send him back on the right track.”

“I suppose I can try,” another voice said. “Although I doubt it would do much good. He is grieving too heavily and that has clouded his judgment. His despair will lead to his own downfall.”
