sadcatto
This is the first chapter of Pokémon StoneGrey, a story I'm never actually going to finish, since I'm working on a fangame of the same name. “Paul, get up." “No, let me sleep…” “Paul, you need to see Prof. Spruce. It’s already 8:10.” That woke me like a Chesto Berry. “...Wait, what?!” “Paul, Mark is waiting for you. He wants you to come get your starter Pokémon at the lab!” I sprung out of bed in an instant, and nearly collided with my mom, who was standing over me. I yelled, “Sorry!” and continued down the stairs, almost leaving the house until I realized I was in just a T-shirt and underwear. I bolted back up the stairs, and once again nearly crashed into my mom, who was now leaving my room. “Sweetie, slow down! You’re gonna get hurt before you even leave the house!” “It’s fine, I’ve got a Potion in the PC!” “I don’t think those work on humans, dear.” I wasn’t listening. I quickly dressed myself in a pair of jogging pants, a T-shirt, my beloved Poké Ball hat, and my messenger bag. I ran to the PC to grab the Potion I had stored for today, and sped down the stairs. “I’ll be right back!” I yelled. I burst through the front door, and ran to Prof. Spruce’s lab. I burst into the lab, panting. “Sorry I’m late, Professor!” “That’s quite alright, Paul,” he replied. “Jeez, what took you, man?” Next to the professor was my long-time friend, Mark. “Sorry. I forgot to set the alarm on my Pokégear.” “Of all days, it had to be today, huh?” “Ahem.” Mark and I fell silent. “Here we have three starter Pokémon: first off, Flambuni, the Fire Bunny Pokémon. After that, we have Calflora, the Grass Calf Pokémon. Last, but not least, we have Aqursa, the Water Cub Pokémon.” I interjected, yelling, “Who gets to pick first?!” “Why don’t you two decide? They are your Pokémon,” the professor suggested. “Let’s do this fairly. Fire-grass-water. Mark suggested. “Alright, I’m down with that.” We got into standard position, face to face, one hand straight out at chest level, one hand behind the back. “Fire, grass, water, shoot!” I shot fire. Mark shot grass. “Yes! I got it!” I exclaimed. “Alright, go ahead. Take your pick,” Mark grumbled. I walked up to the table with three Poké Balls on it, face beaming, and grabbed one of the Poké Balls. “Flambuni, I choose you!” I pressed the button on the red-and-white capsule, and out came my Pokémon. Flambuni’s fur was a fiery orange, with flaming ears and a brightly burning tail. It looked up at me, confused. It seemed not to understand where it was. “Of course you took the fire-type Pokémon. I knew you would go for attack power over defense,” Mark said, as though it was obvious. “But I’m not letting you off the hook that easy. Just because I shot grass doesn’t mean I’m taking Calflora.” “Oh, jeez…” “Aqursa, I choose you!” “Darn it! I should have known you were going to put me at a type disadvantage,” I said, mildly defeated. “Paul, Paul, Paul. Why would you expect any less? You know me.” “I do know you.” I sighed. “You’re going to challenge me to a battle now, aren’t you?” “I sure am.” “Bring it on.” Edited August 29, 2015 by SgtDumpling
