laggless01
So I tried to play mother 3, and I'm in a bit of a bind.I stopped playing when an annoying bass brought my game to a screeching halt by being stupidly powerful.I didn't feel very affected by certain important events, like the brutal death of mother and the dissapearance of my brother. I felt as if I didn't spend enough time with those characters to care so much. The transformation of the town after two years and the monkey events had more succes, though. It has to be note that I didn't play Earthbound, since that's actually impossible for me as far as I know.I stopped playing it for a while, so my question is: should I try to play it again/further, or should I leave it be?And if the former, should I restart, or go on? And how do I beat that damn bass?
Commander
TBH, I thought the mother thing was quite sad...not due to what it was, but how well they did it. Just seeing Flint break down like that right in front of his kids...knowing I'd do the same thing in his position...kind of hurts. Some people don't connect to video games like that and its fine. As for the bass, you have to learn to use items and your skills effectively. Unless you're stupidly underleveled, it shouldn't be too bad (I can't remember because it's been a long time). I know there's a guide somewhere if your really stuck. And trust me, the fights do not get any easier from there.

When the mother died, seeing how every family member reacted differently was emotional on a new level. Claus leaving to get revenge, Flint lashing out at others and Lucas fading away into misery. The feels hit me like a ton of bricks. As for bosses, try using some of the Theif's Tools. Use the Scary Mask to slow down their offence and the Tickle Stick to do more damage. PM me if particular bosses are givin ye strife Edited August 31, 2015 by Jacobliterator

But with everything in mind, should I start over, or should I try to progress? I haven't played it in months. (P.S. as for levels: grinding isn't easy, yet it sometimes feels required, like for that bass)

By bass, do you mean the Jealous Bass?

With its damn sidekicks... And I didn't mean giving up, I meant restarting for story purposes. On the other hand, it took me quite some time to get where I was. When His buddies are out, he'll get mad and raise his attack. Be prepared to raise your defense or lower his attack. He can use Hypnosis too so watch out for that. It has 978HP and a quite high attack, but it has weak defenses. Either dull his attack, or hit as fast and hard as possible. He's also weak to Fire so try that. sadcatto
Here's my advice: Stock up on Pencil Rockets. I suggest going all out, and buying 3 or 4. Yes, they're 500 DP, but they'll help you in the end. Also, use PK Love, or whatever you said your favorite thing was, but make sure you don't spend all of your PP on it. Either save some to use on Lifeup, or if you have Magic Gelatin or Tarts, use those to refill your PP. I say not to let it dip below 15-20 points. If you run out of PP and Pencil Rockets, you should just beat up the Jealous Bass with physical attacks. I suggest going back to the Clayman Factory to get a Good Stick from the Squaking Sticks by the train station. It's got +27 Offense on it. You'll probably need to beat up a whole bunch, though, since the odds of a Squawking Stick dropping a Good Stick are only 5%. Plus, they drop regular sticks more frequently, which are worth 200 DP, and you can sell your Easy-Grip Stick for 1500 after you get a Good Stick. These statistics are from the top of my head, so I could be wrong. I'd look it up on EarthBound Wiki just to be safe. Yes, I obsessed over this game. There are tough parts, but if you power through them, you will be satisfied. Take my word for it.
laggless01
Well, this topic might want this update...with the help of Starmen to help me understand mechanics and such, I managed to beat the game.Sufficed to say, that ending was heartbreaking, then endearing. It really surprised me.I do stand with it that I felt the beginning felt a little bit rushed...maybe having a couple days living with your mother at the beginning instead of one would have solved all the problems I have with it.I do think it's a great game, though.(P.S. Maybe someone can change the topic title to a more appropriate status, please...If I can do it myself, please tell. Thanks )
Jacobliterator
I don't think a single person would've predicted the ending to this game. I love that it cut off just as Lucas pulled the final needle. We saw some cataclysmic scenes, but that's it. We knew everyone was ok too, so its almost like it's saying "Everyone's ok, isn't that all that matters?" If it wasn't for Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, it would have easily been the best story in gaming. Even so, it's still incredible. Sad that its last games weren't that good :/
