Monochrome_Complex
So really i have very little experience battling online, although I have battled other friends before IRL. My attempts in x/Y or ORAS didn't go so hot but i wasn't trying too hard back then. Seems like Shodown is a good place to play with Reborn's community but I never really used Showdown before at all. A lot of the lingo kind of confuses me too, and I don't know where to start! So um...what's a good place to start, how does shodown generally work, what pokemon can I or cannot use, how are items done...anything can help, and you guys are pretty good with this stuff. TimTim
Smogon website suggests a lot of strats, but i wouldnt follow them all, 'cause veteran players can see through Smogon strats and figure out their counter strats against the usual sets~There are clauses to follow like Moody clause, certain items that are banned etc, and Choice stuffs, Assault Vest etc are commonly used depends on the mons you designate their roles to be~Serebii.net also offers some insights in their weekly pokemon of the week~and youtuber thenationaldex also gives some advice on battle strats for particular mon they feature each weeks~ P.S. sometimes its a mind game, overprediction always happens~ Edited October 15, 2015 by TimTim
mde2001
I would recommend starting with random battles (strangely enough). This will help you get to use showdown without having to build teams and so on. They are also a lot of fun. I agree with TimTim though. Read the smogon website to get information. Not to mention the surprise elements when you've got the whole team of NU against whole team of Uber in random battles LOL and then the damn luck of missing stone edge for four times in a row~ Edited October 15, 2015 by TimTim
Monochrome_Complex
I actually started with OU since a lot of pokeon I ended up liking to use were OU anyway. It's really addictive huh? I did about 7 or 8 OU matches last night I think, won at least 4 of them. Heatran was giving me trouble and so did MegaBro but I really didn't have much experience with fighting them at the time and know them a bit better now.I still can't mesh well with megas however, really my team looks more like a gen 5 one lol. K_H
Hey, we all start somewhere. My teams are kinda 'meh', despite my having mainly OU 'Mons in them.
Honchy
I would recommend chatting with friends on showdown, then battle with them, the whole tournament thing is a blast Hope this helped~
