Tangrowth boss is EXTREMELY overpowered

Try using acid spray-sludge spam Gulpin or Stunky, targeting Tangrowth's lower special defense in lieu of massive defense~Acid spray severely drops sp defense, even after PULSE Tangrowth undergoes Pulse transformation and gains secondary poison typing, acid spray still does neutral damage, and then proceed to take it out with a special attack, not physical~

I don't have anything with those moves. I have an Ivysaur that can tank a few hits from Tangrowth, but he can't do much damage. I have a Skitty that can do a lot of damage to him, but is 2 shotted by drain/acid. When he dies by drain, Tangrowth regains a good third of his health, and at that point, I'm left with fodder pokemon that will die before they can even get any moves off.

Gulpin and Stunky~You can get Munna in a trade for Bibarel in Peridot, Munna learns psybeam(special attack) pretty early on~and also Tynamo using charge beam, or Pansear with Ember/Flame Burst? There are plenty of mons that have special attacks

P.S Welcome to Reborn~

I beat tangrowth with a pachirisu with bide, if you manage to keep him alive, bide will do all the dirty work. You can get pachirisu on the opal bridge, after beating some punks who wanted to throw him in the river, but sometimes a different pokemon which i don't remember is found instead. If not, try with the espurr at the empty house behind the guy who asks for money, Confusion and psywave are really useful.

Also, try paralysing it or confusing it, luckily i had pachirisu to paralyse, wingull to confuse, and espurr and braixen to finish him off. Even with all that, it took me a while to finish him off. Just be patient, i'm sure you'll find the way!

I'm pretty sure by the end of Reborn you'll have spent well over an hour on some challenges...

It is a very hard game.

And that's why i love it. Nothing better than the game I love to destroy me :D

Regarding the Tangrowth issue, i'd recommend having your pokemons near the level cap, that'll help a lot for that battle and next ones to come. And remember, even your fodder has to do something useful, or you're going to suffer. Learnt that the hard way.. Bennett i hate you so much...

You could try and go get a kricketot at the apartment building in lower peridot ward, the one nearest to the railnet. Level it up to a kricketune and he'll wreck with fury cutter \o/

THIS LIL BUG CAN WRECK THROUGH SO MUCH THINGS WITH FURY CUTTER OH MA LORD

The ability to be soft resetted to Technician to maximize the fury cutter damage(Technician boosts moves with base power 60 and below)~

Another solution: Trubbish learnes Toxic Spikes early on, so if you setup some Toxix Spikes before he send Tangrowth, it will get poisoned when it's send to battle, since it has Grass Type only when its send and only "PULSE evolve" to a Grass/Poison type afterwards. It is then still poisoned, and if you managed to badly poison him, you just need to tank it and wait that it dies from the poison :)

Train up your filler Pokémon. Heck, in a game like this, you shouldn't even have "filler Pokémon." Each and every team member should be equally competent and able to pull its weight.

I had a rough time beating it myself. Here's what i did

I Used "Fake Tears" 2-3 times against it (Gothita or Swirlix) to reduce the special defense. and then i used Meowstic's Psyshock on it 2 times and it's dead

Isn't that kind of contradictory? Psyshock calculates damage based on physical defense, not Special Defense.

Wait, what? Somebody is talking about a boss being too hard, and not being too easy? It's been a while.

A kricketune can be your best friend in this fight. And in a lot of other fights after that.

Seriously, get a Kricketune and spam Fury Cutter forever.

Trust me, if your having problems with Mega Tangrowth, your in for a wild ride. As for advice, I found inflicting status ailments like burns to be extremely helpful for it. You could also use Pokemon with aftermath, lover it's defensive stats, or use the overpowered Espurr. Aside from that, making sure you entire team is decently powerful is the basic way to succeeded in Reborn.

Well I've had a couple tricks I ran through with the Hardcore mod (the first Tangrowth is more or less like fighting two Tangrowth), the thing is bulky, but pretty much anything you have will outspeed it. Running status moves like Yawn or Nuzzle with help you get some more hits and even Confuse Ray will help add to your hit count. Flinching moves also help add up as Super-Effective moves won't really do too much to it, if anything, focus on your stab.

The first trick I did was Simple Numel where Amnesia basically makes its defense 2.5X increase in just one turn. And Stockpile pretty much makes it bulky, but Acid Spray is a big danger to it. It should still manage to pull of quite a few Flame Burst putting it down to the red or yellow before dying though.

The other is Spoink. Tangrowth has growth...and it is deadly on a certain field effect, but little Spoink can use a Psych Up and also become quite deadly. 3 shots will more or less KO Tangrowth or come really, really close.

Reading this topic made me so glad that I picked charmander for my starter. I bsed it down by using dragon rage against it. That being said, don't think you can blaze through this game on the backs of just a few pokemon. The level cap is pretty strict so you can't just win with sheer brute force. Especially when you reach a certain area not too far ahead. Let's just say you REALLY won't want to have any dead weight pokemon on you when you hit this point. I learned that the hard way.

I actually used an Ekans to take care of Tangrowth. Glare + Bite helped with hax, and Wrap is a very good move for damage over time, since it's 1/8 of max HP. It also resists Mega Drain, so that's nice.
