Grizzlybrand
Awakening The Sleeping Giant Part 1: A Preamble Ramble Hello! I've been playing casual pokemon for years now, I've done pretty well in Monotype leagues, and I occasionally do local tournaments but I wouldn't exactly call myself a competetive player. Since Gen 1 my favorite pokemon has been Snorlax, So much so that I've carried the same Snorlax with me all the way from my Red game up to Generation VI (Before the game I had him on got destroyed, Rip Bigboy). In his memory, I've decided to do the Redemption League building around my Favorite bear (is he a bear? I think he is), and this is what I have so far! Part 2: The Squad Big Al (Snorlax) (M) @ Chesto Berry Ability: Thick Fat Shiny: Yes EVs: 150 HP / 204 Def / 154 SpD Careful Nature - Power-Up Punch - Rest - Stockpile - Body Slam/Crunch The son of Bigboy, and the carrier of his grand legacy. For many years Curselax had been useful, I was thinking it was time to switch it up to something else. This build Seeks to make him this unkilliable Wall, getting off 2-3 Stockpiles and the resting up the damage. Then begin snowballing with power-up Punches. With 160 base health and a decent special defense, Snorlax is hard to deal with quickly, Stockpiles make taking him outbefore he takes you out exponentially more so, I'm stuck on whether to have Body Slam or Crunch as it's second attack, one one hand It's Stab with a chance for Paralysis, but Ghosts can wall him all day. Crunch is the alternative, nothing is immune to it and it's supereffective on ghosts and psychic types with that sweet chance to lower Defense, but then Fairy types become an issue. For now I'm sticking to crunch. G.H.G (Gengar) (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Levitate Shiny: Yes EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Shadow Ball - Focus Blast - Destiny Bond - Sludge Bomb Needing a safe switch in for Ground/Fighting/Normal types I brought in G.H.G. Great Hero Gengar brings the heat (Not literally) with monstrously high special attack and speed. The Standard Stab coverage and Focus Blast allows him to hit almost everything neutrally or for super effective damage. Destiny bond is to deal with tanks and threats the team can't handle. Savage (Machamp) @ Assault Vest Ability: No Guard EVs: 174 HP / 252 Atk / 82 Spe Adamant Nature - Dynamic Punch - Earthquake - Knock Off - Stone Edge Savage the Machamp is a Bulky threat that breaks walls and faces. Dynamic Punch and Knock off mean anything that's not a fairy type is gonna hurt. Edgequake combo is for the Flyers and those that resist said Dynamic punch and Knock off. Assault vest makes him a decent special tank, as well. Coulomb (Magnezone) @ Choice Specs Ability: Magnet Pull EVs: 172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe Serious Nature - Volt Switch - Hidden Power [Fire] - Flash Cannon - Thunderbolt Magnezone actually brings quite a lot of presence to this team. It's here to kill steel types and prevent them from switching out. it's a pretty standard Specs build for Cou, coverage and momentum. Old Salty (Crawdaunt) @ Life Orb Ability: Adaptability EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe/ 4 Def Jolly Nature - Knock Off - Crabhammer - Brick Break - Aqua Jet it was around this point that I realized all the pokemon I've selected for the team is either Gen 1 or Originated in Gen 1, which is funny because I started in Gen 3. So I decided to bring in my favorite Gen 3 pokemon, the angriest lobster Crawdant. Adaptability Life orb makes him hurt like a truck. And he even gets some good priority in Aqua Jet. Trogdor (Dragonite) (F) @ Lum Berry Ability: Multiscale Shiny: Yes EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - Dragon Dance - Outrage - Extreme Speed - Earthquake Welp guess we're going back to Gen 1 aren't we. So In this slot I wanted nothing more to use one of my favorite Gen VI pokemon, Tyrantrum, but it was at this moment I realized that the Redemption league doesn't always stick to Singles, and I really needed something that won't die to my own Earthquakes. Lo and Behold Dragonite, my fourth favorite dragon type. (rip Behind Garchomp, and Mega Ampharos). Multiscale lets him basically set up the first Dragon Dance up without too much an issue, and then Dragonite just does what dragonite does best: End people. So I would love to hear suggestions, Moves, Pokemon Critisims, I wanna hear all of em. I was going to put this in the Redemtion league RMT but this was going to be a casual team I'm gonna build from scratch once I get a DS again either way. Darvan Korematsu
Okay opinion time. This is for Redem, and not Casual, so I'll give you Redem opinions. Snorlax is kinda a weird mon. If you absolutely wanna use it for the Redemption League, Knock Off will be about next to everywhere that can be fit, because the leaders will be allowed to bend their teams against you. Stockpile I'd immediately wanna say no against because CurseLax is amazing and you still have a free open slot to fit something like that division in Body Slam or Crunch because you won't be able to alter your moves. Gengar is Gengar. Nothing real special to his game except for maybe fitting in Will-o-Wisp for clerical reasons. Machamp I'll raise my hand first and say how amazing it is in versatility. Although if you want more sheer power and a better priority, I'd suggest Conkeldurr. Although No Guard D.Punch is brutal. Magnezone. First off change it to Modest or Timid from Serious. I'd also throw in Sturdy is a very useful ability in online Leagues since you don't need to Sash. Otherwise you can slap a Scarf on Mag and have a field day. Crawdaunt might like D.Dance or Swords Dance either one over Crabhammer since it nearly wrecks face as it is. That meh speed can be helped by Aqua Jet, although you don't want to become reliable on that. AAANNNDDD Dragonite is Dragonite. Nothing more special to say about him, except maybe swapping EQ for Fire Punch. It gives you another out to annoying things that your team may not be adept at covering. This is merely a surface analysis. I'd say you might get far in the Redem League if you got a good head on your shoulders, because this is a decent team as it stands. Though I actually don't think Snorlax learns Knock off. Which bites but that's what crunch is for eh? (ba dum tss)
