Need tips for a Fangame: Creating Characters and Dialouge

Recommended Posts

Eep. Everyone has so much to contribute. I might even be rehashing what others have said. Iunno but here goes.

The way I see it, writing dialogue for a character boils down to two important points.

  1. You have a solid idea of who your character is, what their motivations, personality, etc are.
  2. You are able to put yourself into your character's shoes and understand their perspectives during situations in which they speak.

For starters, I wholly agree with Hiss13. Even putting one aspect of yourself into a characters helps you think of how they might think or act.

The problem I found (and it was trial and error before i figured this out) is that I kept trying to make my characters to be the best that they can be.

This does not have to be the case.

Not sure if you have this part is even relevant to you, but here goes.

Most of the time I find myself wanting to OP a character just because (perhaps out of attachment) and start cramming just about everything into them.

But that just leads to my problem of my characters stagnating and becoming boring, simply because they have no growth.

It's because my characters are flawed, that allows them room to become the character I had originally envisioned them to be.

I apply aspects of humanity (again, don't know where you're going or what your characters want to be) such as greed, selfishness, and pain.

Avoid plotshields, perhaps create scenarios where your character is forced to make a decision, for better or worse. Implications.

A scenario that (doesn't necessarily HAVE to be) is unavoidable no matter what.

Do I choose between to save my lover, or the person who can save the world?

If I don't help Citizen A, I'll never be able to see how the economic fluctuations impacted the kingdom as a whole.

Cereal or Eggs and Toast??!?

*pant* *pant*, that was longer than I had expected.

Eep. Er- Um- I mean-

(don't eat me alive pls)
