  1. 1. When would you like to see my game released?

    • In a month?
    • In two months?
    • In three months?
    • Who cares, I just want to play a well-made game!
  2. 2. Who is your favorite character?

  3. 3. Would you like Save Points to be the only method of saving?

    • Yes
    • No
    • It makes sense, given the very "different nature" of your game, so yes.

Apologies to randomly interject, sadly haven't been in the loop recently... Have you done any livestreams in recent time?

Have I done any streams as of late? Not really, since I've been working 3 jobs, but I try to do one whenever I get the chance. Been mostly working on my own, off stream.

But you can read some of the past pages if you want to catch up on some of the new stuff as of late.

Sooooooooo, I've made huge progress over the weekend, in regards to my game, as well as many other cool new stuff's. However, stress has been high, and I've been super angsty irl, mainly due to finances and shiz that's been bogging me down, but I'm sure you guys are more than aware of that by now. But, once I get some of those problems taken care of this coming month, then I shouldn't be too stressed.

But, progress that was made was making new additions to maps as well as giving boss specific arena's, such as this below:

Verlas Forest - Dark Grove (Since Masquerain played my game, she should know what boss I am referring to in this area, and how... odd it was of a fighting location, where it originally took place at.)

09810e8b826a36d96d80a6bd208eb0ae.png

I've also improved more older maps and evented about... 30% of the entire game with the new gestures and animations.

However, as of now I've been distracting myself with Dragon Ball Xenoverse, because... I've been needing to play another game, as of late, and it will help me alleviate a lot of the tension that's been plaguing me as of late ^^;

nice touch. yeah i suggest to not show that scene if its near the end of the game. it will feel more rewarding for the player to see it firsthand when he/she actually reaches there.

i will also be a party pooper this time and point out that waterfalls out of small puddles of water (not even lakes) are odd. the water has to come from a source. now you might tell me that they are underground springs but...

Well, chances are you will be able to reach it, since I won't release the game until it's finished.

You don't really know what that mountain really is underneath it, so it's best left up to the player to decide for themselves if there is a spring under it. It's referred to as coming to your own conclusions. It's an excellent trick to employ on some maps that do things like this. Because, it's never stated if there is a spring there or not, so it's best left up to you to decide for that or not.

Important announcement! This coming week there will be several new characters announced, one of whom is the true villain of the game, so if you don't want to be spoiled, then don't click next week's spoiler. And the rest are characters that the party will meet in the Next Dimension, as well as new villain characters :D

Secondly, I'm done playing Xenoverse, so I managed to de-stress myself and whatnot from last week, and I managed to pay off one of my 500+ dollar debts, so that's good ;D

However, the Sunday that I worked just a few days ago ended up botching my back pretty badly. So bad in-fact that I have to go see a chiropractor to have them take a look at it, since I had the misfortune to inherit an awful back from my parents. Basically put, one of the jobs that I work requires a lot of physical labor, and lifting something that weighs around 50-60 pounds and your supervisor basically forcing you to dead-lift it off the floor, knowing that you have a horrible back, led to that result. In short, I may end up quitting that job because of the amount of ass kissing that I do there, with little to no regard for my health that they have.

Also, here is something exciting. An original composition made for a location referred to as Relia Island! Again, Masquerain should know about that location, since she did play a super early version of my game, but here is the song for you all to enjoy!

If anyone is wondering why in the world the song is so... eerie and ominous, it's because the island is forbidden, because of the dangers that the island entails. It also possesses one of the 9 Tower's of Heaven, which serve no purpose in Symphonic Horizon, but they do serve huge purpose in Symphonic Horizon: Verdant Tales.

So, new artwork, for like the first time in a long time. This is an already established character, who is not Vaan or Vice, but this is actually Nero Cresthart eighteen years before the events of this game. So, this is basically Nero around the age of eighteen. Vaan's fraternal twin, who by chance, shares similarities with Vaan, aside from Nero's red eyes and black hair. Most of you are probably familiar with his current appearance, where he is actually evil. Also, in my game, red eyes does not equal evil, just so you all know, before some of you ask. Why do Vice and Vaan look alike you may ask? Well, that's for you to find out.

commishdylanrockinnero01_by_rialynarts-d

Most of you are probably not aware of this, but Nero is actually the opposite to Vaan. Vaan was more uncaring and generally more concerned about himself in the game prior Symphonic Horizon. He never really batted an eye if he was needed or if someone was in trouble, but at the same time, he would do that just so that way he wouldn't get involved. Vaan didn't care if they were good or bad, he just didn't want to actually get involved in something that doesn't concern him. Nero on the other hand was the complete opposite, and was more in-line with intervening if the situation demanded it.

That said, Nero became evil, not because he wanted to, but because he was forced to. That much, is all I will say.

Also, side-note, I personally think that Nero is way cooler looking than Vaan, tbh. But then again, the regal attire is par for the course with anyone in the Cresthart family.

Abilities that he has, when battling him as an adult are:

Percentage Power - Throughout the game, Nero states that he is capable of utilizing a certain percent of his Pokemon's power, so that way he can increase or decrease his Pokemon's powers when necessary. The first time this is used is when Nero first fights the party, and uses only 10 percent of his Pokemon's potential, while stating that 15 percent would be more than enough to take down everyone, but didn't want to because in doing so he thought it would've been too good for them to see his Pokemon using 15 percent power.

The second time this is used is when Nero humors Vivian during the attack on Namira Village with 45 percent of his Pokemon's potential. Afterwards Vivian comes out victorious, with Nero stating that he was holding his Pokemon back, and could've used more power if necessary. While afterwards his Pokemon get back up, unharmed, and Nero states that he will take the next fight more seriously by increasing their power to around 60 percent. However, that fight does not occur, due to plot reasons that I cannot mention.

New maps and character art update :D Plus Pokemon Go.

So, before I get into showing stuff, how is Pokemon Go? I hear it's... kind of having a lot of problems at the moment, is that right? I haven't played it yet, because I've been trying to catch up with progress with my game and stuff.

But, in the past day I've created a few new maps for new areas of the game, as well as new character art for the true final boss, and true villain of the game.

Ardent Path - This area is a path that leads up to the Fairy Sanctuary.

Fairy Sanctuary - Radiant Garden

Character Artwork: Falset Neohart (his name is a pun on the vocal technique of a "falsetto")

commishdylanrockinfalset01_by_rialynarts

Falset is the true villain of the game, and his appearance is denoted much, much later on in the game, during the Next Dimension Tournament. Not going to say much on the guy, aside from his abilities, since a lot of what I have to say about him is spoilers.

Abilities:

  • Dark Pokemon Posession - When Falset appears in Symphonic Horizon, after

    his "Resurrection"

he materializes several Pokemon from his unique "Poke Ball." Essentially, with the Pokemon that were stored within it, since it can hold many more Pokemon than a standard Poke Ball, turned them into tainted versions of their former selves. Basically enhancing their abilities, while taking away what sense they had of themselves.

  • Levitation - Basically he can float and levitate.

werent you gonna put it in a spoiler ?... Wellp so much for that :s

Because I'm an awesome liar XD

Also, to my frequent readers: Pokemon GO has claimed my life ;A; I've met a lot of people while I was out and about playing Pokemon GO who were also playing it, and so far... I love it. I might've ended up completely drenched, soaked, and disgustingly sweaty with the stench of my B.O. all over me. But that's what makes it so authentic XD And if Ash Ketchum can do it... then so can I, damnit. And Ash sucks, so I should definitely be able to be a Pokemon Trainer IRL.

Anywho, aside from the Pokemon GO obsession that I'm going through, atm, character art update :D Nero's fully colored design, from Verdant Tales! This is what Nero looked like, before he became the leader of the Dark Fangs, and things going all down hill at the end of Verdant Tales. TBH, I think he looks cooler than Vaan, but that's just me, tho XD

So, here is an update on the character artwork for Falset Neohart, aka the true villain of the game, and the final boss of the game:

13664717_120300000035969483_1943331021_n

This is him, in all of his full-power glory! I will not say much on behalf of him, but rather, I will let you all find out more about him, when the game comes out. If it comes out that is XD But, right now I am working on the Next Dimension Tournament, and once it is finished, I will be posting videos of the story matches that happen during it, as well as what happens during the entire tournament. I will also be posting small snippets of what is to come later on in the story, and unlike what I did with Falset, I will be posting those in spoilers, so you don't have to watch it ;D

I will also be uploading a new video on the jump mechanics which I modified in the past week, and am quite proud of ^^ It includes sprite animations and new functions, as well as being utilized during the new Hydro Sanctuary puzzle and Fairy Sanctuary Puzzle. It is used somewhat in the Oblivion Forest Sanctuary puzzle, but not as much as the priors.

Update: So, for those of you who don't want spoilers, don't click the spoiler below, and stuff. But, if you don't care, then here is a screenshot of one of the new areas within the Other World. Most notably, the leader of the Other World. And just as a heads up, it isn't a human, who rules Other World ;)

I haven't checked this thread in several months but has this game been released? If it hasn't is there any approximate ETA?

The game has not been released and won't be released for a good long while. I've taken a 2 week break from working on my game, and now just started working on it, again. Also, I only really have 3 or 4 days a week that I can actually dedicate a good amount of my time to working on my game, because of all the jobs I have to work.

Update: Where has Dylan been?

I've been busy with work, and the fact that I'm going back to school next month, so there's that.

Also, I've been doing a lot of monotonous work in regards to some new features with the game, and other stuff. Also, I've been working on the Next Dimension, which is coming up very soon, here: Take note, it's a work in progress, as it's been... quite hard with all the new tiles that have been added in.

0d6c5ecc157320392b8f1806168ca448.png

Also, I've been debating in my head...

Should I continue posting content about my game, here? Because I know some people hate the way that I post content to the thread, like artwork and whatever. Which is fine, but... if people really don't want to see the artwork or all the hard work that was put into that stuff, then should I really even have a thread at all? I don't know.

I say that mostly because people don't want to see any spoilers, which is understandable. But, artwork was made for public viewing and to criticize.

Just put them in spoiler tags and it's fine, at least for me. Also, I noticed that there are some inconsistencies with the style of the tiles you are using. My suggestion is to be carefully chosen so they have similar styles each other. For example, some of the tiles is borderless while some has borders. So, try to edit them, if you feel want to.

Well, having a progress report will help people to get the idea the progress of the game and building the hype, but that's not a priority for me. Plus, progress report can be an additional pressure sometimes. The good thing about a progress report is that you can tease your audience with the percentage, which add more live to the thread XD

Tbh the reason I prefer games with episodes to one full game is because it's nice to see the development of the game from their early stage, then the old content get new update together with new stories. Seeing the developer grows their skill as more episodes progress is one of the reason I prefer fan-games to official ones. This is apparent with Reborn and Rejuvenation. But again, the decision is yours. This game will be different from any fan-game either, so no matter how long it takes it'll be awesome, I'm sure.

The reason why the tiles look like they're borderless is because of the screen being as zoomed out as it is, currently in the screenshot. Those tiles were made by the same creator, and I can guarantee you that they do have borders. The only one without a border is the circle, and that can easily be adjusted.

I actually don't mind doing progress reports, as I can post everything that I want to say in as much detail as possible. But, there are people who don't like it being detailed and it being too long, or having way too much information in it. Which, again is fine.

And as I already made apparent in the past: I don't do episodic games, mostly because: The story telling structure of the game does not hearken itself to an episodic narrative, and having it be episodic would be incredibly jarring, and unnecessary. I'm going for authenticity and not something against it. I'm also the kind of person who wants to have everything in one big game, as opposed to 20 different games.

Lastly, and this is just because of something I've noticed on Pokecommunity that really made me question the whole episodic thing: People using the term "Episodic" incorrectly, and using it as a click-baity attention grabber, used by amateur developers who have no understanding of what the term "Episodic" even means.

That said, rant about Pokecommunity aside. I understand your liking towards an episodic game, but for me, it would seem unnatural, poorly paced against my game's current plot structure and narrative. It might make things easier on me, but I've already committed myself to making things harder for myself as it stands, already.

Lastly: Video.
