Tips for Recruitment of Team Members or for a Recruitment Thread

Hello Reborn Community.

I have a game I have been working on quite nicely and I know I'm at the recruiting stage of my game's development since I have completed as it mentions in the do you want to make a fangame thread where Tomas says to finish what you are good at and so I have finished episode 1's story, have bios, story plot fleshed, etc and I need a team to help me be able to develop the game.

I am making this thread so if anyone has any advice for how to do a good and interesting game recruiting thread, you can easily post it for others like me having this concern to be able to use as a reference.

I would appreciate any advice and thanks for checking this out and helping.

Have a great day or night.

You'll need to clearly define who it is you're looking for. What particular roles are you looking from people to fulfill? Do you need a spriter, RPG Maker adept, other programmer, or entirely different developer role filled? Additionally, what will you offer to them? How will they work alongside you, will they receive in-depth details about the project, will you create a site for the game and need moderators, how many people are you actually looking for, etc. You can't be too detailed, so include lots of information about your game.

I agree with Arkhidon on the level of detail required.

But my main advice is just do it. If people are going to want to be part of your team they will sign up. However they won't be able to if you put it off too long. The most important thing is to get a good thread out there detailing what you want and if there are people available and interested they will come. If they aren't interested in joining a fan game team then it doesn't matter how perfectly planned your intro is. They won't join.

So don't rush it but also don't keep putting it off because you're nervous.

I have to be honest in saying you can never be too detailed (well unless each description is like a page long then maybe you've gone a little too far). If you simply say you need help in a couple departments then...most people will be hesitant because they don't know what they're signing up for. What kind of coding program will a programer need to be experienced in? How skilled do the spriters have to be? How much time and commitment will be needed to work on this? If you simply run up to people saying you need help, they'll look at you and say what kind of help.

Asking for help in a project is a very big thing and being professional and clear about it is key. Even the number of people is important to making it work. You wouldn't want a team of 8 when 4 would suffice as the other 4 would do nothing half the time (and smaller groups are easier to work with). It's also usually quite a commitment as everyone does expect the work to be equally done. I know your nervous and it can be quite nervous asking for help which is often why I ask a few questions and do some simple tests someone I know would work well with me would be able to answer quite easily. It's more of a clicking than anything.

I'm sorry.

Not really.

Hahaha Ronan nice job. I actually was expecting someone to make that reference.

As to everyone else, your responses to this thread have been really helpful and I have read all your thoughts and I highly appreciate all of them. I will reply asking for clarity if I need some but this is just a general acknowledgement of your responses and giving thanks for them. :D

This. This so much. Have my like, Commander.

Seriously, as I explained in my guide you need first of all to have a clear, well-defined project, and then you need to LET OTHER PEOPLE KNOW that ylj have a clear, well-defined project. Communication is key, as people will be able to help you if, and only if, they know exactly what the project is about, and what their role in it is going to be.

So yeah, when it comes to information, operate on a "the more the merrier" basis: it is better to risk a spoiler by saying too much, than causing miscommunication and confusion by hiding critical info.

Wow thanks for the amazing responses.

I would like to ask other than features and plot, what information should I try to include when explaining the game to potential recruits in the thread? Do you have any advice for this question?

Have a great day/night.
