prologue: the quake

it was a pleasant day. nugget, an 11 year old kid, walked down the road to school. it was a normal day for nugget. his birthday was in about a week and he was excited.little did he know that something odd was coming. a bus crashed past. nugget jumped, as he was quite afraid of loud noises. he hurried to school.

at school he met up with his friend, doloby. doloby was quite clumsy and big but he was nice. you probably noticed that everyone had weird names. well,this wasnt exactly earth. it was an alternate reality really. everyone had magic powers apart from nugget, even if it was something stupid like spawning animal poo. nugget didnt have a power but he was ok with that. he usually sat on the laptop playing video games.

at period 2 (7 periods in a day) it was geography. geography was a fun subject because we had a fun teacher. all the teachers are really nice apart from this one who just puts on a movie and is moody and bossy. something odd happened as nugget entered the class. the building shook slightly, making a cobweb in the corner fall down. was it an earthquake? no, earthquakes ahppen in scotland but they are so minor it does literally no damage. maybe it was that. the building shook a bit more. the geography teacher put on the news. then i saw the new map on the tectonic plates. they had significantly changed. a line went smack bang in the middle of the school. nugget hid under the desk. doloby asked what was wrong.

"the freaking tectonic plates, thats whats wrong!" nugget whispered angrily

"what do you mean?"

"that news report! a line went smack bang in the middle of the school!"

"what!!!" yelled doloby

the building shook violently. wall displays fell down and skylights collapsed, falling on to people. doloby was a telekinetic luckily so he saved them

"we need to get out!" nugget shouted

"agreed," doloby said

they ran out of the class. they saw the mean teacher, ms skerdina get crushed. blood oozed out.

"serves her right," said someone behind the duo

"faril?" nugget said quietly

faril was the tallest kid in the year and the strongest. he always aimed to eliminate competition; even by murder. basically a psychopathic bully. he had more than a few screws loose, his brain had collapsed.

"well nugget, it seems like you are getting brave. which means you have to go." faril sneered.

"well you cant batter fish so how can you batter me?"

faril obviously took offense to that. he charged at nugget but doloby stopped him with his telekinesis.

the corridor started crumbling where the classroom was. nugget decided to let faril go. obviously faril was stupid and ran into the crumbling corridor. the corridor collapsed behind him.

"run!" nugget screamed.

a display board fell down and water was leaking. nugget decided to use it to surf down to the lower floor. doloby got on as well. the display board tipped down the water and landed in the concourse.(the main area)it clattered to the floor. there was a fire at the science classrooms. people had most likely not noticed what was happening before it erupted in flames. it was depressing.

nugget and doloby ran out past reception and out of the building. as they took on last glance back, it was like the whole school was staring at them. they looked at each other and looked back and they had disappeared. faril was stumbling towards them. the duo quickly ran out after though. that day was devastating.
