GenOneRaisedGenY
This is probably a small technicality, but there's a point in the game (shortly after beating Noel) where both the ruby ring and amethyst pendant are in your possession AND you can access the front door to Arceus's palace (the one you met Solaris at). I just feel like you should be able to use the two keys in the door, but you're not given that option. I know you wouldn't fully unlock the door, but it seems like the two keys should at least partially unlock the door...
Shadow Tack
It would make no sense storywise for this to be possible, since both items are important later and if you used them there you would likely leave them, breaking the story, I don't think that counts as spoilers on my side since i only said why it would make no sense in the most vague way possible. dead account
Unlocking that door is pointless unless you have all the keys. Also what if Team Meteor goes back there and takes them? They'd have 2 keys and you'd have none because you left them behind.
Masquerain
I would assume that you are trying to prevent the opening of that door, given that team meteor are trying to open it... that could answer the question why you're not given the option to use those keys you have on the door...and of course, what was already mentioned, leaving half the keys behind would be a terrible idea
GenOneRaisedGenY
I'm not saying leave them in there. But surely the protagonist might be curious what would happen if he/she/xe exposed the two keys to the door (ie. to see if they're even real keys) if they were on hand at the time of being around the door. Avarice
You can't open a door with half a key. All four pieces make a whole. I doubt Lin would make Team Meteor go look for fakes.

Then you can go back to what I said and not be curious about opening a door the bad guys are also trying to open
dead account
This is literally a door that the bad guys want open. The same people who have been purposefully destroying entire sections of the city want to get in the door. Why would the protagonist even consider even partially opening the door, knowing that the bad guys want what's behind it?
Vinny
Couting curiosity in it or not, and danger or not, I still feel that this is the most obvious reason: You can't open a door with half a key. All four pieces make a whole. But that's just me.
GenOneRaisedGenY
Then you can go back to what I said and not be curious about opening a door the bad guys are also trying to open Regardless of whether you agree on the door-opening issue (and it seems everyone disagrees with me lol) I feel like this is a game of moral decisions, and it shouldn't be assumed that the protagonist wants to keep the door shut. That's like assuming that the protagonist wants to: Save all the police officers in Beryl Save Heather from Sigmund at the Yeryu HQ Protect the orphans when Laura's place is invaded Fight Taka at the Water Treatment Centre to make him look innocent to Solaris Maybe I just want to be the one to unlock the powers that lie beneath Reborn? (I don't, but I'm making a point).
Xiri
Maybe the protagonist is just smart enough to know that all four keys are required to open the door? Idk.

You as the protagonist don't get to choose whether you wanna help the bad guys achieve their goal or not, you're forced to oppose them. To have it otherwise would be to make an entire different reborn where you can opt to be one of the bad guys, or be a megalomaniac yourself. What reborn is telling you is that you DONT want to unleash whatever power lies behind that door, sooo uh yeah, youd never be allowed to make that choice 3 gyms into the game
