Maelstrom
When I left two weeks ago, I imagined I'd be gone a lot longer than this. There were a lot of small things that piled up together, certain things that became aggravatingly more prominent to the point where I felt that I would feel better if I just left. That was definitely true: I feel a lot better now. I just thought it'd be much longer than this. It turns out it was one of those things where I didn't need to leave, I just needed a breather. It really annoys me that it was so short- it just ruins a goodbye, like when you say goodbye to someone and then the two of you end up sharing the same path for several blocks before your paths split. I didn't think my leaving would make a ruckus, but it kinda did and that makes coming back all the more awkward... But I guess I'll have to get over the awkwardness because I'd rather be here than not (if in a much more limited way than before) and it just wouldn't be me if I didn't look at a small hangup like that and NOT go "I will break you". *snaps problem's spine in half and slams it around like Hulk playing whack-a-mole with Loki* visual included: So, what else brings me back, you might ask? Well, a lot of it is not being able to share the funny, interesting, cool, nerdy, and awesome shit I run across. I didn't have a mental outlet that even came close to replacing the organization, diversity, and community of reborn. So, I suppose that means I missed you guys. Plus, I was told that some of these AMA's were worth checking out. So, in the spirit of those other threads, I'll talk a bit about ancient reborn history. Like, really ancient. For me, Reborn history starts way before even the 2010 birth year of Reborn as a site. When I think of 2010, I think of it as the year I graduated college and I know for a fact I'd been on forums posting and messaging with the likes of Ame for years before that. It wasn't just poke-place or monkeypro before then, but a series of other small invisionfree boards started by various people. Hell, I'd still been in highschool when I first encountered Ame in cyberspace. Which reminds me, she went by the name of Cyberian at the time. I'd say that happened around 2003/2004. So yeah, I wasn't kidding when I said ancient. She was at the peripherals of my internet awareness at the beginning of everything but we would be staff on several different places before Ame invited me to the stability of Monkeypro. Heh, the guy who co-created the earlier boards with me was the one who tried to destroy it a couple of times and other people staff + drama meant that some others also abused their powers to try to bring the boards down in flames. I think at one point they tried to blame Ame for messing with some coding that made the boards go out of whack. More towards the end, someone made an amusing (if inaccurate) comic of the history of GU (gamer's underground, as the community was called) that initially portrayed me as the bad guy for some reason (we'll just call it artistic liberty). But I decided it was all in good fun and decided to roll with that role. That is actually where I began to take on and enjoy the role of devil's advocate, as had been my title here for a long time. With some googling I managed to find one last incarnation of GU and even found some random place where someone had put the comics. Sadly the pictures have expired from imageshack, but you can glean a few things by the titles. I went by Soulstrike back in those days, oftentimes shortened to SS or Soul. So for me, Reborn, while DRASTICALLY different from those days and places, feels more like a fruition of certain seeds planted back in those earliest of days than something that just started with this site or poke-place. I wonder how many of these names bring back memories for Ame. Honestly, there's so much stuff to that past and so much about it that I've forgotten that it's actually quite frightening. Trivia: As some of you may or may not know, I co-founded poke-place with Ame. But I wasn't around when it transitioned from being pokeplace to reborn. I was actually away at basic training when it happened. When I was finally able to access the internet again and join reborn proper, instead of being member #2 again (or anywhere in the single digits), I joined as member #117, which, as a halo fan, was just fine by me. Not that I really noticed till trainer cards were a thing. Sheer coincidence? You decide. xD Trivia 2: For reasons that I think had to do with Ame's hair in a picture, Ame was often referred to as Bear on monkeypro. =P Also in keeping with the other topics, I'm opening this up as an AMA as well, but with a slight twist. I want you guys to answer a few questions as well. I'll probably update this OP with more questions later but have these to start: Which of my many avatars do you like and/or remember the most? What was the last thing I said to you or talked about with you? Look at the top 100 billboard songs of the year you were born and name your 5 favorite songs from it. In spoilers, of course. Arkhi
Which of my many avatars do you like and/or remember the most? What was the last thing I said to you or talked about with you? Look at the top 100 billboard songs of the year you were born and name your 5 favorite songs from it. In spoilers, of course. 1) I've always associated you with the image in your signature that reads "It never gets easier. You just get better." 2) In-depth? We were discussing various songs to include in out song-off in the Feels thread. 3) Number 5 Number 4 Number 3 Number 2 Number 1 Glad to see you're back. TRHStatement
All the way back in 2003-04? I'm pretty sure my family bought our first computer at that time. The roots this site has really run deep. Your Questions: 1: I honestly can't remember your avi's. But I remember you had really amazing pics in your signature, so there's that. 2: IIRC, I posted this in the Funny Picture Thread and you said you always knew I was a dog at heart. 3: From 1997: I Believe I Can Fly - R. Kelly Mo Money Mo Problems - Notorious B.I.G Feat. Puff Daddy & Ma$e Hypnotize - Notorious B.I.G Never Make a Promise - Dru Hill Smile - Scarface & 2Pac My questions: 1: How has your time in the army shaped who are as a person, and what advice would give someone who is considering to enlist? 2: How has the forums changed from the early days in your eyes? And where do you see it heading in the future? Welcome back!!!

Global Mods Ice Cream Sand Witch Posted December 12, 2015 Global Mods Share Posted December 12, 2015 Which of my many avatars do you like and/or remember the most? All of the avatars you have are good, although I'm not sure if I've seen any of them more than once XD I also really like the one signature you had where two people were fighting and one had a chain made of fire and the other had one made of ice. What was the last thing I said to you or talked about with you? IIRC, it was the "I deliver the ice cream sandwiches" status I made during the "I deliver" status trend, and you said you're still waiting on yours. Since I never got back to you on that, here's an ice cream sandwich: Look at the top 100 billboard songs of the year you were born and name your 5 favorite songs from it. In spoilers, of course. I actually don't remember what year I was born :x
Maelstrom
I really liked your... honestly, I like all of your avatars because of how amazing they all look. There was one where there was someone walking between two buildings? That was the most memorable one and it always screamed "Mael" to me. Idk why. :s I pm'ed you the day you said adios, matey. We talked about dreams too. c: Uhhhh, UHHHHH, Genie in a Bottle is the only thing I remember listening too rip. pls don't hate me. ;; and, my questions! When did your whole dreaming aesthetic start? What makes you so immersed within them? As a fellow dream voyager, I must know. What's your most memorable dream? If you had one wish, what would it be? You're a really strong individual I look up to, one that follows his ideals headstrong. From when did this persona of yours start? If so, has it made life more difficult/easy for you? Speaking of Persona, what Arcana can you describe yourself in? Did you ever try the old Reborn League? What's your favorite Pokemon? How are you today? Do you like cake? PS. I'm really glad you're back, you know? c: Thanks. And yeah, I know exactly which avatar you're talking about. -When? I'd have to guess late elementary, early middleschool-ish. -Most memorable? I'd have to say it was one of the first of the more epic sized dreams I had. I'll try to keep it simple: It involved me living as a very young knight of minor noble heritage in a magic city-castle. The castle seemed to have a mind of its own and rooms and their contents appeared as they were needed. Like that one room in Hogwartz, but it was the whole castle and way before the Harry Potter series even existed. There were a lot of people but two key figures were the princess (who I had a crush on), who was beautiful yet always looked sad and alone, and my cousin, a prince in his own right. One day, the adults were having a meeting when an army infiltrated the castle and surrounded them. Their leader, who reminded me of Ganondorf, demanded something of them and threatened them. When they didn't give in, he started burning the place down around them and sent in robots with flamethrowers to torch the whole place. I happened to have been nearby when it all happened, so I ran back through the castle ahead of the bots to warn everyone else. Everyone began running for the back exit and escaped. During the escape, I was magically drawn to a suddenly created room. It was a girl's bedroom I'd never seen before but it instantly conjured up a memory of a girl I used to know but would never see again. She was standing in a field of tall grass with a summer breeze gently pulling at her hair. I teared up at the memory and wondered why the castle would choose to show me this room and memory- especially then, of all times. I left and was the last to escape the castle. We all reached the safety of the next city over. Even from miles away, we could see the blazing fire where the castle burned down and where most of our parents had died as a result. And then the war started. My cousin and I were key heroes in the war. Individually we cut down scores of enemies in our path, but during the times we teamed up in battle, we were completely invincible. Very decorated warriors, but still I was unhappy. After one battle, a goblin commander begged for his life and offered a ruby ring in exchange but he said it was cursed. I accepted it and wore it in defiance. I was already unlucky. No cursed ring could make it any worse. And truly, nothing bad happened to me. My cousin and I were back at home on a short break from the front lines and the war was nearly over. The Princess was in the room as well, still looking like a hollow shell of herself when suddenly the words of some kind of passage come to me. I don't remember the words at all but it was deeply philosophical, poetic, and uplifting. I recited the words aloud, enraptured by them. The princess listened and it was as if life flowed back into the both of us. The things that had been weighing us down suddenly didn't matter anymore and the princess and I s at eacmiledh other in mutual understanding while my cousin, unaffected, gave us both a weird look. The ruby ring on my hand shattered. And then I woke up. -If I had one wish? I'll have to get back to you on that one because I would cram a lot of different things with specific stipulations into that one wish. It would not be a simple wish, I can tell you that. -Well, I've always endured and used to have a lot of patience. Much less headstrong and impatient compared to now. But I'd always had a lot of pride. I did really well in sports and academics, so I also had a lot of confidence growing up. Even if conditions were unfavorable or there was something I didn't like, I was always proud and confident that I could and did weather it well, but I rarely bragged about it. I was ever a believer of an ideal that I found out the special forces uses almost like a moto: the quiet professional. (So now you can see why I hate swag so much and prefer class) But then you do eventually wear down, people take your effort for granted because you strive to make it look effortless, and they can end up treating you like a pushover because you don't complain. I also found that being indifferent, indecisive, or not having a strong opinion one way or another is... well, it's boring. It's pretty much like not having a personality. Even if you are well adapted and really don't care, having an unpopular or dissenting opinion is better than not having one at all and it really negatively affects you socially. And so it was that I decided to formulate opinions and stand behind them, and to assert myself for what I wanted. I decided to care and take control of the direction of my life by actually communicating when I wasn't happy with a choice or decision or circumstance, or whatever. It was a bit of a long, gradual change from a strong, stoic shield that blocks attacks as a challenge to walking forward through the crowd with my shield up to make a path and move forward in a direction I wanted to go. -As far as persona arcana, I think my birthday actually puts me as the Star arcana, which I think suits me. Margaret had this to say about it: "It's a strong card, one that gives hope to those on the ground below. It shines in times of need. But, eventually, it is destined to fall to the earth and disappear... Even I can feel the sadness of this inescapable destiny..." Margaret, Persona 4 -Yeah, I tried the original league but I got stuck around halfway through. I also knew a lot less about the metagame then than I do now but I learned a lot about it pretty quickly from the others. But at the same time, my desire to really be competitive with pokemon just plummeted dramatically as a result. I didn't make any serious attempts at league after that. -Favorite? I'd say it is a three-way tie between Blastoise, Torkoal, and Mewtwo. -Today? Well, I'm actually really tired right now because my sleep schedule is out of whack and I'm staying up as late as I can to try to get it back on course. -I like cake. Without too much frosting and usually with a cold glass of milk or else it has the tendency to be too sweet. As for your question, do you remember our first encounter? If not... http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9073 Let bygones be bygones, yeah? Oh yes, I remember that. I could have sworn we'd had some interaction before that. But yeah, I remember it but it never comes to mind whenever we talk or I think about you. I think it's safe to say the hatchet is buried and rusted away at this point. =P bruh Wow, I had no idea you went back that far with Ame. That's impressive. So, let me answer these questions... 1. I honestly can't remember them 2. Years ago on the server... I believe it was about some of your experiences in the army? 3. 1994 - Any Time, Any Place (Janet Jackson), Hero (Mariah Carey), The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (Prince), Please Forgive Me (Bryan Adams), What Is Love (Haddaway) My question to you... have you been around a major community on the Internet outside of Amethyst's communities, and when? I can really only put those years as an estimate because the reason I actually went online and joined a forum was to get help with either MMBN3 or 4, I forget which. And so my first major community was that forum I joined. I can't remember the name, but it was the forum for a major gaming media help/review site, rather like ign. It might have been gamespot, but I really don't remember. Maybe Ame does. The main site and forums were taken over by new management and I lost interest in being there after all the changes and I hadn't looked back more than twice. Other than that, I was on Gaiaonline for a while. I was good at fishing and enjoyed the OMG mmo they've got. Now I don't remember how to get back to the crystal room so I can un-lower my character levels. As for when? There were both around the same time, so yeah 2004-ish. I logged into the old profile recently out of curiosity and let me tell you, the inflation is ungodly. 1. The army has made me an angrier person in that I really resent the military and the way it is run and it has pushed me to be more bold and expressive because there's only so much stupidity I'm willing to tolerate now that I'm no longer contractually helpless. I also appreciate school and civilian-side jobs a lot more. It also gives me a different perspective to some that. For example, I'm unafraid when the news screams that they're 'militarizing' the police because while most people see them as getting more dangerous and lethal, I see a bunch of dudes simply putting on more armor and gear that protects them more and weights them down and gets in their way and just holds more tools. They're not adding weapons or lethality, they're just adding utility and defense because they're worried about the heat the civilians are packing. 'Oh, they have a military truck now!' well the truck itself is garbage to ride in, but it does protect you more, and is way better at stopping bullets heading their way. There's no machine gun on top, so you can stop being scared now. The cops are more scared than you. And that's not a good thing. Advice? My best advice is to not enlist, but go officer. If you really must join a service, join the airforce. It doesn't matter which job, they're all cozy and treat you well and have better everything. EVERYTHING. Navy ranks second and it's a toss-up between army and marines as to which is worst. If you must enlist, do not be infantry. They will treat you like shit and waste your time and think of you as free labor. Also, don't be a medic because they'll put you in with the infantry and do everything with them. Don't be a supply guy. If things are run legit and by the books, you will regret it. Pick a job that will train you in skills that you can use at a job outside the military if you choose to leave it. 2. It's gotten way bigger, of course. There are a lot more younger people than there used to be, or at least it seems to me, so I'd say overall the maturity level has gone down, but that's just an overall average. There are just gonna be a few things that I put different value and priority on than they do and it can be exasperating sometimes. I really don't see it changing much in the future, tbh. The biggest push for change in the forum member base will most likely come from Ame's next game project after Reborn. I mean, I still see a lot of the same old metagame debates that have been going on for years around here Which of my many avatars do you like and/or remember the most? All of the avatars you have are good, although I'm not sure if I've seen any of them more than once XD I also really like the one signature you had where two people were fighting and one had a chain made of fire and the other had one made of ice. Maelstrom
Now question for you: If you could only be in one place for the rest of your life where would it be? That's a tough one. I've been to a lot of places but not really one I want to settle down in. I'd love to go to Japan and Australia and Europe but as a place to stay forever? I'd probably have to say back home in El Paso by default. Lots of family and stuff I know there. Couldn't you be gone just a little while longer? We had a pool going. Well maybe you should have let me in on the winnings. Told them you'd be back. <3- that old issac one - idr probably whatever before you left it wasn't that long ago i could check skype It was cheatplanet. I remember we were usually the ones around the GBA help forum giving people advice on MMBN3 and Golden Sun and such. this one? That's right, and then it turned into games radar. Even back then, it was all about those Nintendo handheld games. 1 - Fitting, hmm? You are Batman. 2. Something about this video, on the server. btw, you co-founded Poképlace with Ame? List of things I didn't know about Reborn's history: this. I have two questions for you: > Knowing yourself, would you say you are a role-model (Both forum and irl) or do you think you don't fit that description? > What was the worst moment of your life, and how did you go through it? Italian spiderman is ridiculous. I think there certain aspects that you could pick and choose might be something to aspire to but I really don't feel like one right now because I'd rather lead by example and experience. Right now I've gotten lazy and haphazard so in some respects I really wouldn't be leading by example. The worst moment? Well, that burnt out feeling towards the end of college was pretty bad but the year I spent as an armorer was easily the worst. It was just so bad and I wanted to get out of there. Some other bad moments: getting injured from a parachute malfunction, moving away twice, some relationship regrets... everything else seems minor when I think about them. Now to my questions: 1) What is the topic you argue the most about with others? 2) Your favorite extinct creature? Would you want to bring it back? 3) How (in your opinion) the next 20 years will be? 1. Religion, mostly, but I really don't jump into that in depth like I used to. 2. Hmm, I'd have to say Triceratops off the top of my head. Idk that I would bring it back. I don't think they'd fit in well with the current ecology and would probably end up being more of a problem than anything, but if it turned out brontosaurs or some other extinct creature tasted absolutely delicious as a steak or something, I'd be very happy if we brought them back. 3. 20 years is a long time to look ahead. It's highly unusual if I think about something going on in the next week. Next 20 years? Things could go south pretty fast with Trump, but I'm sure even useless old congress would shut down all of his ideas. A lot will change depending on how Europe and the US end up dealing with ISIS. I definitely feel like they could handle things a lot smarter than they are right now. Other than that, who knows what technological goodies will show up during that time to start even more social change. It's a whole lo take in and grasp. But on the lighter side- hopefully more books, manga, and comic book stories get made into quality tv series and movies. There's a lot to be said about values expressed in popular and intellectual media. Questions: Have you ever been in actual military combat? Fortunately/unfortunately no. I didn't have to shoot at anybody during my deployment but I was always out there on patrols talking to people. Our combat outpost did get attacked with mortars a few times- they already knew not to try to take us on head on. IED's were always a threat and luckily I didn't end up on any of the patrols that found any the hard way, but we did find quite a few the safe way. Do you like potatos? As fries, mostly. Sometimes as leprechaun bait.
Flux
Which of my many avatars do you like and/or remember the most? The most memorable for me is the one with what looked like Godzilla. As for my favorite, you've had a couple that I've liked, though there are too many for me to remember. What was the last thing I said to you or talked about with you? It would either be when we attempted to play Soul Sacrifice but my internet was junk, or something about Rivals of Aether. I don't remember which came last. Look at the top 100 billboard songs of the year you were born and name your 5 favorite songs from it. In spoilers, of course. To be completely honest, I looked through the list and only recognized a few songs, all of which were songs I find really annoying. I tried listening to a few, didn't like any of them, and decided not to try going through the entire list. I'm really not a fan of today's popular genres, and I don't keep up with any of those artists. I might get to asking you some questions later when I think of some good ones. Maelstrom
I've had several that WERE Godzilla, not just looked like him. I don't think you're young enough that any song that was released during your birth year counts as a contemporary song, exactly. Darvan Korematsu
1. I remembered once that you had some weird pirate ship or ghostly ship as an avatar once. I only really remember it because it struck me as unusual. I also remember a lone guy just walking down a long road staring down. 2. I believe it was something related to Smash, but can't remember because I don't interact with you a lot. 3. Top 5 of 100 for birthyear: 1. "I Believe I Can Fly" by R. Kelly 2. "Fly Like an Eagle" by Seal 3. "Macarena" by Los del Rios 4. "Go the Distance" by Michael Bolton 5. "All by Myself" (Celine Dion version) by Celine Dion You know what mate, I feel like you'd be the kind of guy I could sit down at a bar, crack open a beer and shoot the shit about life for a couples hours. I'd like to ask some stuff to you later by PM of you didn't mind.

So I just looked at the current top 100. Whoops. I might have to give that another look sometime. Also, the avatar I'm thinking of was Godzilla with a bunch of orange in the picture. I don't remember if it was the sky or fire or what, but I'm pretty sure there was a lot of orange.
Maelstrom
I swear, it's hard to believe you guys don't recognize songs from your birth years. If I can figure out what year you were born in, I'll just have to take a look myself and give you a top 5. =P Except for Arkhi, I saw your choices and I like your taste.[s/] I'm sure once you've seen some of 'em linked instead of listed, you'll remember. Or maybe actually hear something you've never heard before but totally should. Shia- This one looks pretty silly looking back on it, but this is classic. I forget whether or not this was Brittany's breakout song or if it was a different one. Man, memories. I see it was also a major year for teen pop, so look up the backstreet boys while you're at it. "I Want It That Way" came out that year too, but I'm not a fan of it. The meme-rific theme song for sad animal montages everywhere, this song is iconic for its beautiful sound and lyrics. The title just says it all- it's pretty smooth. https://youtu.be/6Whgn_iE5uc?t=14s What can I say about this one? Just give it a listen. A lot of people decided to take their Spanish classes a little more seriously this year. Not me though. It's been a long but he recently came out with a song I really liked That song from the City of Angels. Oh, looks like there are too many songs from this year in the top 100. Anyways, have that song from The Prince of Egypt. Oh shit, Mambo #5. This one is fun. I never knew who did this song before but now I know. Wide-ish variety, no? @ mde- I see what you mean, theirs kind of a dirth of good songs to choose from there. But here's 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPLV7lGbmT4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIANBamMgas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJO5HU_7_1w @ Ame Man, Ame, you're old! =P Slimmer picking here too but I definitely found some I recognized. Definitely a different time period for music. Lol, just compare this to the stuff from Shia's year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrIiLvg58SY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHRpWQOqe14 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKAJs8waYd4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ58TVYNFro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcEaUJoo0NE @Gaunt- probably not your style but here's 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_D3VFfhvs4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79fzeNUqQbQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTcu7MCtuTs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1ubrA5SsUo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1ubrA5SsUo @Dobby- damn boy, you have a lot to work with, what're you talking about? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXvMT_mVbqw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lyu1KKwC74 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KT-r2vHeMM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjeX1HESi6Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC_q9KPczAg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpRpRrpLHfQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQnAxOQxQIU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J95gaG7MYQY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNoouLa7uxA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNZH-emehxA Flux, do you mean this one? Gaunt
@Gaunt- probably not your style but here's 5 Thanks these are good (except Madonna can't stand her), "Simply Red - If You Don't Know Me By Now" was the best. Now to the question: if you could choose one (and only one) avatar to represent you what would it be?
Flux
Yep, that's the one. I guess the orange was dragons and fire.
Maelstrom
@ Guant- One? Idk, it'd be a tough toss up between these two: Edit: No, I changed my mind. It would be this one. @ Flux- it's actually one badass dragon with 3 heads. It and Hydreigon were inspired by the same mythological dragon.
