CURIE
Now before you say this should be in the creative writing forum, this is for people who don't write fanfiction. If I posted this in the Creative Writing forum, which is pretty much about writing fanfiction, it would be kinda pointless. Anyway, chances are if you're reading this you've never written a fanfiction and probably don't plan on writing one anytime soon. While Sturgeon's Law applies to everything, this niche market of writers is probably the most notorious for its "ninety percent". Many people associate fanfiction with poor writing, wish fulfillment, and trying way too hard to be edgy. While there are a lot of really good fanfics, just like there's a lot of really good anything, the only people who ever really read them are avid fans of whatever the fics are about. And for most people, the idea of writing a piece themselves never crosses their mind. Well now let's say you have to write one, for whatever reason. What franchise do you choose? And what is your story about? Who knows, maybe you'll come up with an idea everyone here really likes, and might be encouraged to actually write it. I'll start. If I were to write a fanfiction, it would take place in the universe of Madoka Magica. It wouldn't actually contain any of the show's characters (except Kubey) and would instead be its own self contained story about characters I made up myself (except, of course, Kubey. You kinda can't have a Madoka Magica story without him involved). It would be about a guy whose girlfriend was a magical girl, and recently was killed in battle against a witch. But he doesn't know about any of that, and is investigating her mysterious disappearance.
Global Mods Ice Cream Sand Witch Posted January 29, 2016 Global Mods Share Posted January 29, 2016 A love triangle between Ronald McDonald, the Wendy's girl, and Colonel Sanders. The first story arc would be them climbing a mountain and would introduce the villains, ninjas who wear neon bunny masks. The second story arc would be them visiting an underwater hotel and fending off said ninjas, and Ronald McDonald would fight one of their commanders. The third story arc would revolve around food in some way and the leader of the bunny ninja group is revealed to be deadmau5. This or the fourth arc introduces the talking M&Ms as major allies. Also at some point the Burger King would fuse with Lord Farquad.

Cobalt996
Self-insert fanfiction about me in the Pokemon world being forced to write a self-insert fanfiction about me in the Fire Emblem universe being forced to write a self-insert fanfiction about me in the Tales Of universe being forced to write a self-insert fanfiction... The sad part is, I would actually seriously write that before other ideas
Support Squad Felicity Posted January 29, 2016 Support Squad Share Posted January 29, 2016 Well you're wrong that the creative writing section is about writing fanfiction. It includes all fiction. That's it. There's plenty of unique stories such as short stories that expand upon RP universes made in the RP section. So let's set that straight before someone like Stratos kicks you. My fanfiction would be about one of those stupid romances where no one makes the obvious, sensical decisions. See how short it would be. Sutoratosu
Well you're wrong that the creative writing section is about writing fanfiction. This. You know what dobby, I saw this earlier today, and I really did consider setting him straight myself... but I figured I should go calm down and have an apple juice before I ended up flipping my shit. But yeah, exactly like Dobby says, we got faaaar more variety in those parts than just mere fanfictions. There's so many original peices of work ranging from poetry to a few essays to fully original fantasy and stories, that I honestly don't even feel like coming through all 6 pages or so of forum to count them all... Anyways... back onto the actual topic: For me it would probably be... A Fanfiction... in the universe... of a Heavily Romance-focused Manga/Anime. I'd be getting 'Forced' to write it after all, and considering I honestly can't stand romance unless it's written and paced and portrayed in a very particular way... and I generally am not too big of a fan of the more cutsie things in media... well, what better torture to inflict on poor Strat? I certainly can't think of any... Only problem is, eventually the torture part would probably stop because I'd simply be exposed so much that I stop giving a damn and become desensitized and start just rolling with the punches... which is...exactly what happened when I got goaded into participating in a Magical Girl RP. And I swear to Arceus, don't any of you guys even say anything. You know who you are... I'm not doing it... not... I'm telling you, nope...never... no damn it. Chevaleresse
The CW forum isn't "pretty much about fanfiction," fyi. Most of it is poetry or original stories. Also, Kyuubey. OT: I suppose I've pretty much written Fate fanfiction already, but I'd go with that series since it's pretty easy to mess with.
Flux
If forced to, I'd probably try to write some sort of continuation for the end of Darker Than Black: Gemini of the Meteor. Though in general, fanfiction isn't for me, simply because I feel like I'm interfering with someone else's world and ideas. Just a personal thing; I don't intend to sound like I'm against the writing of fanfiction, because I'm definitely not.

Maelstrom
I think the easiest one for me would be to do would a Destiny/ other video game thing ala Log Horizon/SAO. Something happens and you get pulled into in-game worlds(s) or it becomes real. With your outside knowledge, how would you handle it? What would naturally be different? etc. So much to work with. FeralGator
I'd write the fanfic that I'm writing now. Oh and also finish the Mystery Dungeon fic that I started years ago. I seriously have like... over 200 pages of notes and previous chapters on it. I really should finish it... >3>;
Shamitako
As an active writer I doubt you'd have to force me to just write a fanfiction. In fact I'm currently working on an SAO fanfic (well, technically, it's unrelated to the canon but uses the material) Now if you were trying to force me to write a bad fanfic, it would probably be related to MLP or Homestuck, since those fandoms are super easy to troll around with. Reishi Astrea
Right now? either Gravity Falls Reverse Falls AU or Undertale Gaztale AU (sadly, the AU's creator stopped creating, some personal problems, I don't know the details) or Undernovela AU (the only Telenovela I would have watched). Ironbound
If I were to write a fan fiction, as Unlikely with a capital U as that may be, it'd probably involve the heroic battle between the Audit Report and the evil Tax Infringement over the fair Profit Statement and the quest to protect its beautiful Reserves and Surpluses from misrepresentation! Zephyrus the Priestess
(insert everything that's been said about the CW forum not being just about fanfics) i'll probably write a fanfic where a frickton of OCs in the RP subforum all meet each other and crazy shit happens. ... or a fanfic about fanfics. also known as a satire. Yours Truly
I honestly can't see a situation where somebody could force me to write fanfiction; unless if you count being forced to write propaganda for a dictator fanfiction; in which case yes; I can be forced to write fanfiction. Maelstrom
I honestly can't see a situation where somebody could force me to write fanfiction; unless if you count being forced to write propaganda for a dictator fanfiction; in which case yes; I can be forced to write fanfiction. Then you haven't seen the movie or read the novel called "Misery" And in response to the original post, I would posit that while not many people ever think to write a fanfiction... most everybody that watches or reads a good work of fiction imagines themselves in that world. Imagine what they could or would do. What is that phrase? "Capture the imagination." Creativity inspired by a particular set of guidelines or background. Branch off on their own line of thought from what is shown. I'd say fanfiction gets its reputation in that very few are those who studied and endeavored to enter into professional writing. Few have really studied what makes for good and bad writing. Characterization, motif, choice and method of description, diction, connotation... all the things that public education barely scratches the surface of before 'more practical' considerations come to the fore. Like the hard sciences, STEM. A good piece of fiction can inspire much, but rarely does it or any one piece of work teach its audience how to recreate its success. And so, most fanfiction has the craft and subtlety of an elementary school play. I think the seed for fiction or fanfiction exists in everybody. But not everyone is so caught up to carry the line of thought to completion, much less willing or determined to express it to others. Even fewer are those who are capable of expressing it masterfully.
starkidcosmo
The only way I'd be "forced," as in "I don't want to but I have to," is if I had to continue one of my old fanfics from when I was 12~13. They were bad and I don't really like thinking about them... but in short: Tragic Mary Sue meets the main cast (who all act ridiculously OOC of course) and ends up dating the guy my child self liked the best. A lot of swearing happens because I was an unironic edgelord. The "romantic" scenes make all the readers' eyes bleed. The end.
IntSys
If I were to write a fanfic, I would write it off showing the protagonists and the antagonists' clashes and results through an otherwise minor character, preferably a mere civilian or something. That's probably the furthest I'm willing to go to create an OC.
