Prerax
Mine personally would probably be the Kotor (Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic) games. But tell me yours! I'd love to check out new games to play!
Combat
I would have to say either Okami or The Last Story. You could probably put Wind Waker in the top five list, but I'm split between those two.
Shamitako
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 (and probably all the other Neptunia games, but I haven't gotten to play those yet)
Flux
Probably Dark Souls 2. Tales of Zestiria and Final Fantasy X are up there too.

BlueMoonIceCream
I would definitely say The World Ends With You is my favourite RPG though it's only on DS and it would be difficult to emulate if you were to look into it
Tomas Elliot
I would definitely say The World Ends With You is my favourite RPG though it's only on DS and it would be difficult to emulate if you were to look into itDS is like, the easiest thing to emulate ever. I have 3 different emulators for it as well as the ROM of The World Ends With You.Anyway, as a hardcore RPG gamer, I should point out that "RPG" is a rather broad term: what kind are you asking about? WRPG? JRPG? SRPG? ISRPG? ARPG? Because I have a favorite for each, although in some cases it's difficult to pick just one.
Sejiren
Difficult question, I would probably go for Radiant Historia, TES V: Skyrim, Final Fantasy V, Treasure of the Rudras, ... So many good RPGs, though I'm usually more on the JRPG side.
Support Squad Felicity Posted January 30, 2016 Support Squad Share Posted January 30, 2016 DS is like, the easiest thing to emulate ever. I have 3 different emulators for it as well as the ROM of The World Ends With You. Anyway, as a hardcore RPG gamer, I should point out that "RPG" is a rather broad term: what kind are you asking about? WRPG? JRPG? SRPG? ISRPG? ARPG? you really, really, really need the touchscreen function for TWEWY and the precision you need a mouse for. Which makes it more awkward than other DS games. especially ith the meh way DS emulators tend to run in my experience. I tried it and it was horrible. Best RPG, depends. JRPG has to be Persona 3 or SMT Digi Devil Saga, look em up, they're so worth. ARPG is probably Kingdom Hearts. Nostalgia goggles were strong enough to sit through the horror that is proud mode on KH1, what I think is the hardest part of the series. BBS critical was a cakewalk in comparison. Fuck the endgame gauntlet. Best SRPG is Fire Emblem awakening. If you wanna hear people extol this games virtues, there is any number of people who can do so better than I. Best standard, choose your own adventure, dungeon plundering game? The Elder Scrolls Oblivion. I loooooooooove this game, however many flaws it has. The main questlines bar the Thieves guild are so much more interesting to me, the game is legit more challenging than Skyrim (I used console commands to max my stats at level 11. I STILL COULDN'T KILL SHIT EASILY) and the dungeons are just more fun to explore for me. Plus, more interesting characters and what feels like just etter writing overall. Fuck the Dark Brotherhood questline, it somehow made me feel bad for something I should have quite literally no moral compunctions about. Tomas Elliot
Yes, it is awkward, but with a good mouse and the latest Desmume is not that bad. Anyway here are mine: Fav WRPG: Star Wars KOTOR Fav JRPG: Persona 4, although I am playing LoH Trails of Cold Steel and it is ALMOST on the same level. Also big shout out to Ar Tonelico. Fav SRPG: Sakura Wars So Long My Love (AKA Sakura Taisen 5) Fav ISRPG: Disgaea Fav ARPG: Odin Sphere

InnocentSerenity
Favorite RPG would have to be Eternal Sonata, because I really like the battle system.

TaciturnPhoenix
Xenoblade Chronicles. Played through it 11 times and I'm still not bored.
Commander
Fav JRPG: Persona 4, although I am playing LoH Trails of Cold Steel and it is ALMOST on the same level. Also big shout out to Ar Tonelico. <<<<<<<< (Clearly not a huge fan) I suppose favorite RPG would be kind of Hard for me, but I'll do it by categoery SRPG: Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. Yes, I know it's not loved, but it's because of this game Path of Radiance is good storywise. Everything was just so well polished mechanics wise so it's a very enjoyable game, but it's sad there isn't any way to get it cheap. There are so many mechanics I miss from these games such as Canto and Shove. JRPG: This is honestly a tough one for me. I'm going to have to say Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, but that's because the story is just so good and the combat is fast and fun (I don't mind the flashiness at all). I gave Xenoblade Chronicles a higher score than this game, but my god is this game something special. I mean my only complaint about the game is the crappy trees and the character's are all likeable despite it being a cliche story. There's just so many little details it's hard not to fall in love with this game. ARPG: The Last Story. Seriously, I love this underrated gem. The combat is very unusual, but I feel like the dialogue that happens in battles and even boss battles really is what made it special. (There's a whole section of weak enemies where you and your team have a contest to see who can kill the most. You can actually hear them counting while killing enemies and it's great). ------------------------------------------------------- But yeah...I generally divide my game oppinions by Story and Gameplay as one generally is better than the other. Here are my two favorites based on that Favorite Story: The Xenosaga series. The gameplay of these games...is meh and the story starts out kind of slow, but for some reason, I really really liked going through this rollercoaster of a series. Half the reason I loved it is due to how well done the villains are and the arcs. It's not perfect, but it was one very enjoyable and long experience. Xenoblade X's 1/2-D villains was a really big step back compared to their Xenosaga counterparts. Favorite Gameplay: Paper Mario TTYD/The Word Ends With You. Normally, I'd just say Paper Mario as it still is one of my all time favorite games, but TTYD is probably one of the most unique game we'll never see again. Both require you to stay really focused and have some very enjoyable boss fights very few RPGs can even match.
Sr.F
Sora/Zero/Ao/Sen no Kiseki, Luminous Arc, Phantasy Star and The Last Story.
Chase
Lots of answers here. Perhaps the most obvious answer for me would be Pokemon. It's probably the game that started my love for multiple games in the genre. Western RPGs are headlined by an MMO - Runescape. RS is also celebrating a milestone year (15th) just like Pokemon (20th.) Outside of the Pokemon franchise, it's going to be Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door from the east. The game was arguably one of the best games to land on the Gamecube, and while it may not have been much different from it's its N64 predecessor, it was very much still in the spirit of the franchise. This game was also probably the best game to remain so going foward, as Super Paper Mario began what I feel is a decline in the Mario RPG saga. cmdemension
i love the final fantasy games but not sure wich 1 is best so i pick em all
Tomas Elliot
<<<<<<<< (Clearly not a huge fan) Lol your avatar is easily the male character with the most potential by the way, but I don't like how they handled him in some instances. I have to give P4 the edge, because its social scenes are actually shown. In LoHToCS, you have a static background being blurred out and the dialogue portraits slapped on top of it, which looks rushed. I understand they did this to save space on the cartridge, in order to make room for a MUCH larger world to explore, but still...
Loopysaurus
Paper Mario 2 is my favorite RPG, honorable mentions to Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn and Xenoblade. I have to say that I'm surprised by the lack of Undertale in this thread. I guess I wasn't the only one who wasn't really hooked by it. Monochrome_Complex
Skies of Arcadia for sure. Exploration was incredible, the cast was lovable and well designed, the soundtrack was beautiful, well-fleshed out setting, an enjoyable story and while the combat was typical turn based stuff, it didn't take away from the game and overall remains one of my favorite all time games. It was also the 2nd RPG I really understood, like Shining in the Darkness I played when I was little but I didn't understand it much at all lol. Grandia 2 was really good too(still has the best regular battle theme in any RPG IMO) but aside from more voice overs and combat/encounter system SoA was better in every way. Texasblazed
For me anything with the name elder scrolls (excluding eso) I have been playing these games ever since arena and still love them to this day.
Hutch333
My favorite JRPG is Breath of Fire. I'm so surprised there isn't more love for this series. I have played it through more than a dozen times and it never gets old. Also a huge fan of the disgaea games. Honorable mentions to Final Fantasy X and Star Ocean The Last Hope and Til The End of Time because I loved the story of those games.
