Fire Emblem Fates [Waifu Simulator 2k16]

Aite team, so Waifu Simulator 2k16 is on the horizon and much like it's predecessor Waifu Simulator 2k12 (FE: Awakening) it's seems to be a fairly good game from what i've personally played and seen. I'm neither for nor against the direction FE has taken in terms of their franchise and generally they seem to be doing well for themselves so I doubt they'll be any significant changes to their current system.

So I'm curious are people hyped for Fates, what version are you guys gonna cop and why? Or if there's anything else about the game you guys care to share go for it. A friend of mine bought the Japanese game with a Japanese 3ds and let me play around with the Nohr side for a bit. admittedly it felt a lot like Awakening, except you weren't nearly as absolutely broken, especially when it came to pairing up. The latent abilities of certain classes is definitely going to make it a lot more challenging as well. For example the ninja class regardless of who wins or loses the unit fighting the ninja takes damage iirc. Adding an interesting twist especially when the map your on is literally like 15 ninjas.

Respectable choice. But that does remind me they took out the pet your waifu option in the NA versions of the game. Knowing I can't pokemon amie the pout princess has left me with mixed feelings. On one hand I'M TRYNA PET ME'S A POUT PRINCESS. On the other I don't wanna be the dude looking forward to the face rubbing simulator part of a game.

[stares at nonexistent release date for europe] weh

either way im probably marrying nishiki first because he's fucking adorable and i want to pet him

Yeah…from the news going around…that might not happen...

Which sucks because I want to pet mah waifus.

Yea, then there's people like me who heard about the Petting thing and now pretty much really actually want nothing to do with the series.

~((I'm not actually serious here, but like... I really really don't care for that. I already find the whole "Shipping simulator" stuff to be a level of creepy I don't like. I find putting another level of that and making your character treat these characters they apparently care about like pets/animals eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeven weirder.))~

You know what they say, 'Different Strokes'

I will say the characters I'm looking forward to the most are lobster brother, and Odin. While I didn't get to use Lobster Brother the samurai class is looking to be the most interesting in the game, and they've fully made Odin a 'full' mage which I feel fits best for his character. On the samurai end Nohr doesn't get too many and that's the side I feel like I'm gonna be most invested in if for difficulty alone sadly. I do plan on buying all three and dropping the full 80$ so I don't have to stress it in the long term though. One thing that I was able to experience in the game despite my short time with it was the whole Kamui/Corrin Draconic field change thing, and that was actually super cool, and adds a fair bit of depth to the system. Sidenote: all of the MC's battle animations are super cool and over the top. Really they outdid themselves and you can watch the MC just flip for days on end when they prepare a critical.

I know Awakening and Fates kinda have come to be known as waifu simulators but tbh... I'm mostly in it for the storyline :V I'm so ready for getting my heart torn to shreds (i heard fates was really heartbreaking kjsdhfaskhfaskghakajhs)

the marriage thing is just a nice extra to it and the support convos are just fun to read c:

Yea like that stuff doesn't bother me tooo awful much... like I can get past it even though I don't care for. Like I'd be fine if they didn't do the whole matchmaker thing ((mostly cause to me it feels... super forced and I really hate super forced relationship things. I honestly hate this system less than the Crappy Bioware systems for them... eeeeeeew....)) And I still need to play Awakening but I've not got the cash to pick it up yet. Personally for me I just like the gameplay of the games disregarding all that stuff so I can get past it existing... mostly.

Also, I felt the support convos in saaaaaay... the earlier games were very interesting and still even are nice views into the characters and what they are about. I do really love those just because they are very cool ways to expand on the characters in a way without taking out too much time of the normal gameplay and the narrative. ((no matter how silly some of those conversations are in the middle of a battle XD.)).

I honestly just wish that instead of outright censoring these features, they can just be restricted by Parental Controls. That way, people who truly want these features can have them, those who don't can ignore them, and by restricting them the poor depraved 13 year-olds who totally don't curse and utterly naive won't be influenced by the game's more unholy content. Would that still cause the rating to fluctuate? I mean, online features aren't really counted, as online is typically unrated. Alas. :c

The reason Nintendo Censors a game or actually really any company is mostly due to the rating system and to avoid getting an M rating as Nintendo is known to be kid friendly. I love how in Xenosaga that they couldn't have a certain villain chop his own head off with a knife so they literally renedered it so that he rips his own head off with his bare hands making the scene even more horrifying. The rating system is really stupid and I could see this being a part of it as ratings really don't make sense.

I'd probably be more upset if they dumbed the game down if they believed American gamers aren't capable (cough Path of Radiance cough), but that's the big thing to worry about. The whole petting your waifu thing I felt was really dumb, but I suppose I can see why people are getting upset. What I don't understand is why people are boycotting the game and canceling their pre-orders because they can't pet their waifus in what is supposed to be a tactical RPG about strategizing (and what is usually a pretty good storyline). Tbh, I was more upset about the drugging removal than this, but you still have most of the game there.

Never forget 'path of Ike solo' 2k05

Anyways I went out and payed off conquest today I'ma do the same for birthright the week after next so I'm a little excited. Even with the minor removed content I don't think the face petting is a big thing because it's mainly a japanese mechanic if that makes sense specifically with the idol master genre of games. I understand why they wouldn't even looking at the general make up of this thread you can get some idea of why it wasn't included. I can't fault nintendo for that. The drugging thing I don't really care too much for either. word is the whole thing spiraled out of control cause of some tumblr post about it. I don't know what the original scene portrays exactly, but I doubt it was anything horrific, or at least as horrific as tumblr most likely made it seem.

Played through all three of the versions in Japanese, and I'm looking forward to playing Conquest and Revelation again in English. Completely on the fence if I ever want to visit Birthright again, as it was by far my least favorite version. (I found it's cast of characters to be the least interesting, and it's by far and away the easiest version of the game) I'm completely neutral about the removal of skinship, as the feature always rubbed me the wrong way simply because Fates is a SRPG and I felt being able to do it immediately after dark story moments kind of shattered immersion, but some people wanted it so it's a shame for them.

It wasn't as horrible as tumblr made it out to be, Soleil was actually quite pleased with the results and Corrin wasn't trying to change her sexuality. The problem for a lot of people who understood that this wasn't an attempt at gay conversion was that Corrin slipped a substance into Soleil's drink without Soleil knowing. Anyways, I'm quite interested to see what they've done with Soleil in the North American release, as she was a really one dimensional character in the Japanese release who was found to be quite offensive.

What else is new?

But really, when it comes to censorship, I dislike it just on principle. Regardless of whether you want to pet the characters or not, regardless of whether you wanted…whatever happened involving Soleil, denying people who may enjoy it the opportunity to enjoy the original devs' work in the fullest is stupid. It reeks of a childish mentality.

You may not realize this, since Fates by far has had the most attention before localization out of any Fire Emblem game, but things have always changed considerably to appeal to the western audiences in localized Fire Emblem games. Marth in Shadow Dragon is one of the biggest examples of this. In the Japanese version Marth is a pretty childish, very naive and teamwork centric hero who desperately wants to get through fights without sacrifices. In the North American version of Shadow Dragon, after the prologue Marth is a stronger, more confident lead character who understands that sacrifices have to be made to achieve victory. It's always happened, I just am interested in seeing what they do with Soleil, as they also edited a character in Radiant Dawn named Kyza who's only character trait was wanting Ranulf to love him because he was an offensive homosexual stereotype just like Soleil is.

The thing that happened with Marth also happened with Eliwood. There's a reason the community called him Eliwuss for a long time.

Anyways, from what I've been hearing the petting part has been removed, but you can still view the models and have the characters say things. How that works is kinda beyond me though. To be honest the thing I dislike the most about this localization is the name changes and the removal of dual languages for the North American copies. Both of which are minor gripes at best.

I managed to secure myself a special edition, so whether they're good or not, ill likely end up playing all three sometime down the line. Starting with Nohr.

I'd blame Hitori Omou (The Japanese version of Azura's song) being the Japanese artist Renka's debut single for this. The licensing issues this could very possibly have caused would make giving the English version dual audio cost way more than it's worth or be outright impossible. I'd give this a read for a better explanation: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=525009

(Ultra late response, whoops) From someone who has a copy... You can still invite a character into your room, it will display the petting screen but you can't pet them.. After a few seconds the character will say a thank you message and leave... I've only heard this, so no conformation.. But you can skinship the person who you are married to.

So here we are, edging ever closer to the American release date of Fates... And Europe still doesn't even have a fucking release date

They've really dropped the ball on that. Like holy crap, North America has had their release date for months now.

Fates and Awakening went full casual compared to the other games in the series, but I'm potentially looking into Birthright.

For Birthright? Absolutely. I wouldn't say that's the case for Conquest. Conquest end game gets really ridiculous and just in general has pretty well put together maps. And while it isn't present on all modes, on Conquest Lunatic all enemies have set skills unlike the random ones in Awakening, and some of the skill sets are really nasty or just annoying to deal with. Minor Conquest Lunatic strategy spoiler:

For example on one chapter there's a Swordmaster with the skill cut-through (Cut through makes the unit switch positions with the unit they attack, and it is a selectable skill rather than a percentage based skill), who will only attack if switching positions will put you in the range of the boss. This boss has high magic and strength, and with his very high speed he will double and and do a lot of damage to all of your units except the very fast ones. He's also sitting on a throne which gives him a substantial avoid bonus, and even units with a weapon triangle advantage will have around a 50ish% chance to hit him.
