I did that in my Hoshido run but I used +Mag rather than +Def. I also married Orochi to create the ultimate +Mag -Spd Kana. It was something like a +8 magic mod. I found he was alright, but lacked the HP stat required to properly tank. This time around I'm using +HP -Lck and it's working really well. Because I'm not killing Spd/Str/Mag he's free to use both the Yato and the Dragonstone as he sees fit, and with +HP he's a great tank with the Yato boosting his Dragonstone boosted defenses.

In general I've found that even -Spd Corrin is too fast to really worry about getting doubled by much that isn't Ninjas, Samurai, or Berserkers (thanks for the useless speed buff Yato) so I don't think the wary fighter is necessary in practice, though I had the same theoretical idea as you.

As much as I like to rag on Corrin, the Avatar probably finds a way to strike most units twice with the Yato (especially if he gets good level ups in the stat) and thus I just opt for using the Dragonstone nearly all the time with this set - because the Dragonstone at least can't double.

I like Wary Fighter because it's insurance and I don't really want much of anything else anyway.

Nobility/Renewal from Castles later on.

...works perfectly fine with me. Fang gives me the extra firepower and it comes standard. Nobility still helps Corrin cheat with experience. Renewal and Def+2 because then Corny can just stand out there even longer, and Wary Fighter to insure ANY unit, speedy Gonzales or otherwise, doesn't get the jump on me.

......Ah, it's always nice to make progress in Conquest.

It had been a while since I'd attempted my Hard run and I decided I wanted to through with a different Corrin than before - and this time, I'm a Chapter 10 survivor. How I did it?

  • Mess Hall bonuses. The issue with Chapter 10 is that it's very early in the game and your Mess Hall was likely built at least one chapter ago. You may not even have characters running it, relegating either the Troubadour or the Lancer Chef duty and also dealing with only getting to use one ingredient. However, even limited, the Mess Hall is a fantastic tool because it allows you to pick a stat of your choice to give a boost to, while also providing a bonus stat increase (most of the time) depending on the flair of the dish. With the infamous 10Defend chapter, Defense is a helpful skill to boost.
  • TONICS. Tonics are an absolute blessing in Fates in general - and they allow for a character to boost a particular stat if you purchase them on top of other boosts like the mess hall boost, weapon and pair up bonuses, and skill boosts. My go-to poison of choice for this chapter? Speed, Strength, and of course Defense.
  • Trial and Error - In my sitting, I was to only pressed to replay the round ONCE - and in the first play of the sitting I was able to identify which turn the Hoshidans began causing my forces to bend - meaning instead of retreating I stood my ground too long. The result? I actually BEAT the chapter while losing Nyx, Niles, and Elise. That was the first time finding success, and I was able to adjust the second time playing the chapter to make it out without losses.

Interesting things about Chapter 10 Conquest with Hard as your difficulty? Well....There are not many units with skills in this chapter due to the majority of them being re-enforcement units. However, there is more units each wave than in Normal. For example, the Normal map starts with two Spear Fighters and ONE Ninja, where the Hard map starts with an additional Ninja, that poses a threat to Niles if you leave him on the Ballista following the first Ninja. Hinata and Oboro actually charge you in Hard (two turns after Takumi turns the tide), whereas they only direct traffic in Normal. That was actually scary as where Hinata is threatening if you try to initiate with him, Oboro's Nohrian Enmity can be a problem for defensive minded players (like 100% of players in this chapter.)

Normally, both if not just Oboro fall to Camilla in my runs, but the amount of Pegasus Knights in the chapter and Oboro's additional Seal Strength had Camilla steering clear this time around to protect her ability to one-shot other units.

New things this time around.

OH MY GOD HAITAKA IS AWESOME. Rally Defense is an amazing rally to have on the final two turns. 10/10 Captured Unit there.

Selena - paired up with Silas - is MUCH more effective than having Silas take on the western chokepoint by himself (which he CAN) and it also starts a beautiful relationship.........

Ok... I just finished Conquest Chapter 18 (the one with Zola),

(yeah a bit slow, considering my last post, but I didn't have much time to play lately)

and now there is one thing I don't understand in the Corrin/Azuras behavior in the dialogue at the end...

Both Families are sitting at the table, at that banquett... Corrin and Azura have a plan to defeat Garon... WHY ARE THEY NOT TALKING ABOUT IT??

It would make the whole thing so much easier if the Hoshidan-Family knew about this!

The Hoshidans could pretend to surrender / to be defeated - hide inside the Castle, let Garon take place upon the throne, and BAM! AMBUSH!

but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... they refuse to talk about their plan and with that, letting innocent people get killed...

I mean, sure there is the possibility that they wouldn't believe you (hell, you are Nohrian-scum to them)... but even Xander, Leo and Camilla said that Garon has changed for the worst...

BUT!

I guess I know why... the devs are using OOC knowledge!

Takumi is most likely under Iagos spell, acting as a spy - like in Birthright... but Corrin/Azura cannot know this by this point - so there is no reason why they shouldn't talk about it!

ARGH! If there is one thing that totally drives me nuts, it's plot-holes!

Ya boy got 'im some Revelation. I'm just going to jump to Hard and not beat this one on normal.

Here's what I know about the route:

  • Very generous with item spawns
  • Pre-promoted units have a degree of use
  • Fuga
  • Everyone is available for use
  • recycled maps
  • poor unit balancing and distribution
  • patchy story

Here's a synopsis of chapters so far

6 - Essentially flipping off both Xander AND Ryoma only to get ignored while they have an impromptu macho contest. The difficulty in this chapter comes mostly from having to protect Azura as you try to draw both forward commanders to you.

7 - Excellent new map in my opinion. Simple gimmick that rewards exploration and taking your time - making it not so pertinent to milk experience for Azura and Jakob (while the option is still there.)

8 - Recycled BR Fort Jinya map - but from the perspective of Silas' invading forces instead of defending the fort like in BR. The scariest moments are protecting Mozu here if you're using her at the very beginning from the two Sky Knights to the right of the fort entrance. Once getting past them and the leftward Spear Fighters you should be golden to invade.

9 - Discount Conquest Wind Tribe Map. It's still the annoying Fuga's Wild Ride map - but because it's an early chapter, the opposing units are terrible. Doesn't make the chapter easy though if you're trying to use Rinkah from Branch of Fate. She's behind the curb here and stuck at E rank clubs.
