Personthing
Part 7 second half, Tin Tower - Blackthorn's section of Dark Cave: Well, at least Morty and Eusine have some more screen time. Wait so Suicune is the one causing this? The real question here is would Suicune actually be able to do this? All it can do is Rain Dance. Did the radio waves affect it or something? Suicune must run on some strange logic. You don't need to destroy a whole region to get rid of some scrubs with some Raticate. In fact, Team Rocket was destroyed literally just 10 minutes ago. Mmmk, as expected. Morty's hair turns pink for some reason a few steps into the tower's entrance. So, the fate of the region is at stake, but they still won't let me through. I mean, I absolutely do not have pure heart, but just let me know where the clear bell is and I'll grab it. Oh. Welp, we're all fucked now because some old dude won't bend the rules. Oh, well that makes things much easier. So the game just told a half truth. The clear bell is in the ruins of Alph, but you have to use the entrance pictured here in the Union cave to find it. Enter one of the chambers and... Well that makes things easier doesn't it? Time to piss off Dialga with some casual time travel! Now we're in the past. This island has a pretty straightforward cave system, but there are a lot of items. I make it to the top out of the island, and look who it is? Ho-oh. I grab the Clear Bell off it's neck and piss it off. It drags me to another island, where I then return to the future. Yeppers, now stand aside. More old people in my way. They really have skewed priorities if this could spell the end of the region. Raikou and Entei flee. Now it's time to catch Suicune. EDIT: K, so the spoiler refused to work properly, so I had to split this in two RIP Take two. If Sleep Powder spam and ball throwing is enough to excite Eusine, he must have low standards. And now that we dealt with Suicune, the Ice Path is now open. Blackthorn, hooo!!! First things first, gotta grab Waterfall. Near the exit, I encounter a Sneasel. I decide to catch it and I name it Deirdre. (If it were male, I would've named it Dio) Deirdre replaces Specter. I've never actually used a Sneasel before, and since this hack has the Special/Physical split it shouldn't be completely awful now. First thing I do after arriving at Blackthorn is go to the shop and sell some of the items I've been hoarding, and then buy a bunch of stuff. Before tackling Clair, I decide to explore the route south of Blackthorn. I notice this cave entrance, and... More Dark Cave. Oh hey, there's another old dude in a cave that wants to give me something... Could it be? Awwwwww yeah. I might be benching Hydrus. For now I'm leaning to yes. I go down a ladder just to the east of the old man, and find a long stretch of water that ends with a waterfall. Turns out I don't need Clair's badge to scale waterfalls. And I end up in a room with a bunch of easy strength puzzles, and quite a few hidden tiny and big mushrooms that I can sell. I make my way through because I want to see what's at the end. What the hell? Why is this here? Why is Jirachi in some random cave in Johto? The fuck is going on? Well, I may as well catch it since it's there. After catching Jirachi, I decide to grind Croc and Deirdre a little bit, as they are too far behind in level to even challenge route trainers. Look who it is! What are the odds. Too bad I didn't have the Wobbuffet I caught specifically to prevent the Dogs from running away. Wait a moment, Raikou attacked instead of running away? So I only have to find the legendary dogs once? And despite being low on balls after using most of them on Jirachi, I catch Raikou. Now I just need Entei to show up. This'll conclude Part 7. The team: Hasty nature. Naive nature. Naive nature. Hasty nature. Hardy nature. Docile nature. Next time, we'll be taking on Clair and possibly victory road. EDIT: I'm feeling fickle as all hell, so don't be surprised if right after Clair my team changes significantly. Personthing
And now, time for part 8: Clair - Victory road: We start off by clearing out the gym trainers and pushing some strength blocks. Identical layout to GSC's version of this gym. Gym leader #8, fight! For the self proclaimed best dragon master in the world, she sure likes her NFE Dragonair. Deirdre takes the first two out with ease. Then she brings out her ace, Kingdra. It took awhile to whittle this thing down as she used all of her healing items on it. And then another Dragonair. And as per usual, Clair refuses to give out her badge upon defeat. So she wants me to go to the Dragon's den as per usual, but there seems to be a gang causing some trouble. However, I don't head there immediately. This is where I go insane and change up my team completely. I get the Eevee from Bill in Goldenrod and decide to use it, replacing Willow. I nickname it Sol and make it into an Espeon. While grinding in the room where I found Jirachi in the Dark Cave, I find a Larvitar and a Zubat and decide to add them to my team, replacing Deirdre and Behemoth. I also bring Hydrus back into my team and bench Croc. After that long grindfest, I go into the Dragon's den and head to the building that you're normally supposed to go to. The master is dealing with some shady people in an eastern section of the cave. I surf north east, navigate some rock smash and strength rocks and look what it is? Team Saturn is back. They've made the depths of this cave into their hideout. "Just keep going" he says. There are actually about 3 floors worth of Saturn grunts and one admin to deal with. They specialize in Electric and Water type Pokemon. I finally make it to their base. Pretty sudden transition after that long cave. So there's some special rocks in a hidden room. Neat. This base is primarily hallways, and this is the only trainer here. All of the grunts were stationed outside the base. His first Pokemon was a Kingler, and it refused to die. His second and third Pokemon, Dewgong and Seaking, were far less remarkable. A strange chamber is behind the door that the admin was guarding, and when I try to proceed I get ambushed by these jerks. After dealing with the first two opponents, Axel shows up to fight this guy in my stead and let me move on. And waiting for me is... Lt. Surge? He looks almost identical to him at the very least. Nope, it's not Lt. Surge. It's Team Saturn's leader, some dude named Russel. He seems to have stolen something from Axel. You know, Russel really could've just tried stocking up on Ultra balls. Axel wouldn't have chased him around if he hadn't stolen it in the first place. Also apparently Russel is an army deserter. Lt. Surge's cousin Team Saturn boss Russel would like to battle. He leads with an Ampharos. Nothing particularly special, but it's not bad either. His second Pokemon, Elekid, isn't even worth noting. His third Pokemon, Electrode. It immediately used Selfdestruct. And his final Pokemon, Electabuzz. Put up a pretty good fight and even brought down Cinder. Team Saturn boss, defeated. While he was defeated, it does not deter him or his plans in the slightest it seems. Axel decides to punch Russel in the face before he can do anything else. It was super effective. And with that, Latios and Latias get really pissed off. Axel did not think this through. Russel decides to bail, but he promises that this isn't the last we've seen of him. So it's a family heirloom or something? Either way Axel did a poor job of taking care of it. Now I have to battle either Latias or Latios to calm them down. Axel fights the one you don't choose. And since I have zero intention of ever using Latios, I defeat it for the EXP instead of catching it. Axel apparently lost to Latias. After that, he takes us to the top floor of the Dragons den. And instead of getting in trouble with the elders, Clair happily gives up her badge now that we've fulfilled her request, and gives us the TM for Dragonbreath. After heading out of Dragon's Den, Elm decides that he wants to give me a Master Ball. That'll help greatly if I ever run into Entei. And Axel runs off in search of Team Saturn again. Look who it is? I ran into Entei on my way down to Professor Elm's lab twice, but it used Roar each time before I could catch it. That would've been nice 3 minutes ago. Now then off to the waterfall in Tohjo falls. I clear out all of the trainers on route 26. Every single one of them is a cool trainer, and they gave some nice EXP and money. Now it's time for Victory Road. Johto's Victory Road was super short and had no trainers, so this should be quick. Oh, looks like there are trainers here in this version. Cuts down on the pre-elite 4 grind. So instead of Cool Trainers, they actually make a distinction between Cool Trainers and Ace Trainers in this game. Ace Trainers so far have been exclusive to Victory Road, and are basically all boss fights disguised as random trainer battles. They have 4-6 high level'd Pokemon (One has 4 Pokemon, the rest have 6) with good Pokemon variety (and at least one Kanto or Johto starter) and non-generic movesets. They are significantly tougher than Clair, which is fitting given that these trainers are on Victory Road, a place exclusive to trainers who have all 8 badges. All of the Pokemon pictured above are from a single Ace Trainer. They also all pack multiple healing items, such as Max Potions and Full restores. Earthquake, get! I teach it to Cinder. Objection! Those are fighting words son. Rival The Black Knight Silver would like to battle! Unfortunate lead choice there buddy. This fight with Silver is a little anti-climactic compared to the generic Ace Trainers in this cave. Because he has yet to embrace the power of friendship, all of his Pokemon that don't evolve by level up are still NFE, so it makes him one of the weaker trainers here overall. At least his starter can put up a good fight. Zephyr goes down before Cinder finishes the job. Embrace the power of friendship. That and buy healing items, he was the only trainer in a looooooonnnngggg (like, pre-Morty) time who didn't have some sort of healing item. I guess that ties into him not caring about his Pokemon enough to actually heal them? Next time we see him, all of his Pokemon will have fully evolved. Not gonna lie, Silver is actually my favorite rival in the Pokemon series, period. He was the first character in the series to have real development, and he was the only real rival to have a genuinely nasty rivalry with the player, at first. (Even Blue banters with the player and acknowledges their strength throughout most of the journey) Here we are, the Indigo Plateau! Let's do this. I've got this. Yeah, nope lmao. I'll have to do some grinding before I take on the Elite 4. This'll conclude part 8. The team: Hasty nature. Lonely nature. Hasty nature. Quirky nature. Docile nature. Serious nature. Next time I'll be taking on the elite 4.

Personthing
Here we are, the Elite 4. At this point in time I don't exactly have plans to continue this playlog afterwards. Now then, the Finale Part 1: The Elite 4: Before I take on the Elite 4, I grind everybody to level 47. Sol learned Psychic, and Quartz learned Crunch. I change the battle style to set. Elite 4 #1, Will. His Xatu goes down without much issue. Rock Slide and Crunch were enough for a 2HKO. Jynx could have very well taken Quartz down. Thankfully, I have Cinder who cleanly OHKOs it with Fire Blast. His next Pokemon Slowbro tried to set up calm mind, but it didn't do it much good His 4th Pokemon is his second Xatu, and I immediately switch in Quartz because I want him to get EXP. Crap. 3 Thunder Punchs later... His final Pokemon, Exeggutor. Cinder missed his first Fire Blast and nearly goes down because of it. But Cinder clutches it out. 1 down, 3 to go. That went well enough. Elite 4 #2, Koga. Koga has a very unlucky choice in leads. It flinched, wasted a full restore and went down before it could even get a move off. Poor little spider. His second Pokemon, Venomoth goes down in a single hit, but it was a crit. Oh. Yeah, Quartz is not gonna be even putting a dent in that thing. That could be bothersome. Cooked walnut, anybody? His fourth Pokemon took quite a beating compared to his others. I decide to switch into Quartz as I don't want to waste Elixirs on Fire Blast yet. Koga's final Pokemon. Double team spam made it take awhile to bring down. And now we're halfway through the Elite 4. Time for Elite 4 #3, Bruno. Not the best choice of leads on my part. I was sort of hoping he'd lead with Onix. I'm not about to let a free switch in like this pass. Dammit. Clever dick. Oh for fucks sake. This thing went down easily at least. Lets try this again... ... Finally. SHIT That's better. Not a very clever idea there Bruno. Barely hanging on, but Zephyr takes down Machamp. Just one more Elite 4 before the champion. Final Elite 4 member Karen, fight! She leads with Umbreon. Cinder was a poor lead choice, but on the first turn it gets hit by mean look so I have to stick to my guns here. After many turns of attacking an healing, Umbreon finally goes down. Cute. A clean 2HKO. Houndoom's physical defence is so bad it should go down easily, right? Nope. At least Hydrus can easily pick up the slack. 2HKO with Blizzard. And he final Pokemon, Gengar. I don't see what it was trying to accomplish. Should she have sent it out earlier, then it would've proved useful. Elite 4, cleared! Now all that remains is the champion. Personthing
Finale part 2: Champion Lance: Champion time! Flying type master Dragon master Lance would like to battle! He leads with Gyarados. Gets 3HKO'd by Psychic and wastes it's first turn setting up rain dance. Sol would get screwed by this Aerodactyl, so I go with the best switch in possible. Quartz barely pulls through and triumphs. Dragonite #1. I switch out Quartz since he would be useful against the two Dragonites that don't have Blizzard so I want to heal him. Alucard served his purpose in this fight. Now then, the main reason I taught Zephyr Dragon Claw way back when. Another turn of this later and... That's really bad. RIP Zephyr, you tried. At least it put itself in a position where it can't avoid going down. Dragonite #2. I decide to switch out to Sol, mostly as a fodder mon, but thankfully this happens. Then I switch to Quartz and try to take it down. Quartz almost takes it down, and then this happens. As expected. Hah, take that Lance RNG is on my side now. Dragonite #3, and holy crap this one wrecked me. RIP. Didn't even stand a chance. All that I have left is Cinder, but now that it's confused I may stand a chance. You son of a bitch. I try to spam Fire Blast as it's my most damaging options, and I want to run the chance of burning this Dragonite. Lance doesn't want that, now does he? This might just be it... AWWW YEAH CINDER! Now it's my turn to spam healing items Lance! Plenty of turns of Healing + Fire Blast spam. Yes! Lance's final Pokemon. Fitting that it ends with Cinder vs a Charizard, the battle for the best fire starter is now. Thunder Punch crit pushes Charizard into 2HKO territory! I've got this! It's over! Cinder with the clutch against Lance! 10/10 best starter. Afterwards professor Oak shows up as per usual and Lance takes us to the hall of fame. The team: Now that Johto is finished the play log is over. I may come back to this eventually and cover Kanto, but for now it's over. Genesis
Ah man I have a ton of catching up to do. 3 dragonites. Damn, best find something fast to exploit x4 ice weakness and quick. I am so glad I can find a larvitar pre e4 though that is fantastic The collector in me wants to gouge your eyes out for not catching the Latios, but it's cool haha Great work on documenting everything btw, some of those E4 battles were intense! It is sad to see how whimpy Claire's team looks. I thought for sure she would have a Dragonite. I don't know why I remember her having one before
