Halloween
I just saw this released, thought I'd share 'cause it's mad sweet watch before the nintendo snipers strike it down https://youtu.be/eHgCmnVvfTI no idea how to post youtube videos pls help
Masquerain
Looks as lame as I imagined it
Combat
I have mixed feeling about this. First off, the videos quality is kind of bad, so it was kind of hard to tell what was happening. From what I can tell, the game play is less about battling wild Pokémon, and more about having a good aim, which almost makes it akin to the safari zone, which is... Well, it's something I guess. It is important to note that this is a beta version of it. My real question is who posted this? I didn't do too much research, but this looked far from official, and almost looks like a leak of sorts. I'm going to be looking into this. Halloween
It's from the Pokémon Go panel at SXSW, the person talking is the CO, idk who filmed it
Red_Chaos
If they are willing to keep working with the program the could have something amazing. so im ok with baby steps right now.
Halloween
yah, agreeing with Red up there, i mean, it's an app, ain't it? something you'll wipe out on the train to play with for five minutes before going back to reading erotic fanfiction and playing neko atsume, and for that, this looks pretty balls. NickCrash
yah, agreeing with Red up there, i mean, it's an app, ain't it? something you'll wipe out on the train to play with for five minutes before going back to reading erotic fanfiction and playing neko atsume, and for that, this looks pretty balls. If that's your cup of tea, yes, be my guest Right now I'll ask for more, because simply aiming at the pokemon does not make it any different from those games you toss a folded sheet of paper and try to send it to the bin with the help of a fan. CURIE
Sorry Re_Chaos but this isn't baby steps, the fact that they put it on a public press release means that this is likely a very close to or completley finished product.
Shing
The gameplay looks pretty boring. But i'll wait how the game will see in the end. Also wtf use master ball at ivysaur!?
Alex
there wasn't really much shown but for a mobile game it doesn't look too bad so far; I'll have to see the rest of the game for a more informed opinion though
CURIE
Well some more info came out about the game and confirms that everyone's fear is true: you don't actually fight the wild Pokemon, it's just throwing the ball and hoping it works. Also, it appears Pokemon don't have levels, only trainers. To evolve Pokemon you need to catch multiples of the same Pokemon. So is there battling at all? Kinda. Remember how this was made by the guys who made ingress? Well the "gyms" work exactly like the portals in ingress. They're all over the place and you can have your team "claim" them and leave a Pokemon (yeah, just one) there to defend each one. Players from other teams can then fight that Pokemon in an attempt to capture the gyms for themselves. Wether or not actual, active trainer battling (and trading) is in the game like it is in the trailers is still unconfirmed. Oh, and so far it still looks like it's gen 1 only... Masquerain
Still would rather play fangames and 3ds pokemon games than that .. And it being gen 1 only is even more demotivating
mde2001
I'm am pretty disappointed by this as well. It looks pretty basic and not at all like what people were expecting. But hey, if people will enjoy it I guess I can't complain. Hopefully it will develop some more. And to show videos on here you can use [,media] [,/media] around the URL without the commas. DemICE
if there are no wild pokemon battles or training this is going to be kinda dull. just walk to x area and throw balls...
Masquerain
There's gym battles so... by association there should be training, unless your pokemon dont come with levels or anything
CURIE
The field test has like, just now begun in Japan. We'll be getting details on how the game plays momentarily. EDIT: Well it seems updates will be slower than expected, because the company's really pissy about not letting anyone see what's in their game and is trying to hunt down and eliminate people who post screenshots on the Internet. That's NEVER a good sign... What has been leaked so far though, is mostly just a bunch of menus. It looks like Pokemon really don't have levels, only trainers, and that is really is Gen 1 only after all. At least character customization is a thing? EDIT 2: So someone's hacked the game already, and discovered that the animations of several moves are mentioned in the game's code. It seems battling of some kind is in the game after all, still unknown if it's, you know, ACTUAL battling and not some crappy mobile replacement. Also still unknown if there are trainer battles, or if these moves are only for that dumb gym mechanic. EDIT 3: People have reported that there's only 30 Pokemon in the whole game and they're all gen 1. This is likley just for the beta though. This means that there could possibly be more than just gen 1 when the actual game comes out. Though after ORAS, I wouldn't count on them putting something in the game that isn't advertised. EDIT 4: There's a "train" button mentioned in the code (not in the actual game though) that would have been used at a gym that your team occupies. Maybe when the actual game comes out, Pokemon will actually have levels. Also, the three teams you can join are Red, Blue, and Yellow. That does not help our chances of ever having anything past gen 1... EDIT 5: Dataminers have found a pokedex entry (for Charizard in case you're curious), so those will probably be in the final game too. Gosh dangit, how long until someone comes across another player or something? EDIT 6: Datamining has, interestingly enough, uncovered the existance of evolution stones. And despite all the coding that was mined, there is no mention anywhere of any Pokemon that is from Generation 2 or above. It looks like the game really will be Gen 1 only. STILL no word on anyone who's participated in a gym battle, or if actual PVP trainer battles exist. EDIT 7: People have reported that you can catch a maximum of 500 Pokemon, wether or not this is just for the beta is unclear. Also there are references in the game to other facilities being in the final version like "aquarium", "bike shop", and "car shop". A video has been leaked, but like so many other leaks it's just a bunch of menus, nothing new.
Masquerain
Don't you have to cross another beta tester for that?
CURIE
leaks have all but stopped happening, it seems Nitanic successfully destroyed everyone willing to share info on the game. However, we still have the datamine. From this we've found out: Pokemon are assigned 2 moves and you can't change them or add more. RIP battles. There are only 7 "natures": raider, assassin, stoic, guardian, protector, sentry, and champion. Again, RIP battling. Trading's a thing, at least. Local only though. Pokemon are divided into common, legendary, and mythical... Which is stupid, because this is gen 1 only. That means there's a grand total of 4 legendaries and 1 mythical, and the rest at common. Why even bother having that distinction. We still haven't figured out how the battle system works, but given the information above we can safely say it's not ACTUAL battling, but some crappy watered down mobile replacement. Which is probably done automatically, because that seems to be the way mobile games are these days.
Masquerain
Well.... sorry, can't get hyped for this thing. I get that it's the first of its kind for pokemon and all but eh. Hope we get improvements in the future
NickCrash
The first pokemon games came 20 years ago in a console that could do 1/nth of what mobile phones can today, included 151 pokemon full with levels, moveset and stat distribution and had multiple battles and trades. Now the same games have this basis, with major development on moves, abilities, natures. Today I can play all generations on my computer/tablet. I cannot understand why this company cannot do more or at least something in par with the originals. The only reason so far it does not give out information is because they are ashamed of their product.
Masquerain
Well we don't know what will be different from the beta but facts remain, this is a shameful display of a product. Likely they don't know how to include stuff on a phone or what to even include to make it work properly, and what to make people pay money for etc
Combat
I find it interesting that there appeared to be data for Steel, Dark, and Fairy types in the leak. Perhaps at release, they only plan on having the first 151, but will continue to add new Pokémon as time progresses? Plus, they may be waiting just to see if Go is worth the effort. If Go flops, then they won't need to put in the extra effort. I do hope they don't just try to appeal to Gen Oners...
Masquerain
20th anniversary is so far almost entirely only appealing to genwunners ..we get that yes 20years the gen 1 started and all but ehh, how about not forgetting how far you've gotten in those 20years as well? This thing will likely be a flop unless enough overhyped kids use it or sumt
Halloween
I mean, I'm gonna play the hell outta this once it gets released... But in the initial press releases, they promised us training and battling. I'm thinking it's starting to sound like they ran over budget, or out of time. Pokémon GO isn't run by Nintendo, it's made by Niantic, who got a budget of $20m. Wikipedia says that they had 41 employers at that time, a year ago. I got 54k a year as a junior 3d modeller at my best, 41 of that alone would be the budget, and it doesn't look like they have much else going on. One year for doing what the initial plan is also fucking insane, like, noope.
Combat
The more and more I think about it and/or look at it, the more and more I think that it may be mediocre at worst, ok at best. (I'm sure that you can say that these two worlds are just about the same, but what I'm trying to say is the game will be just flat out average.) my current guess, is that the game will be alright in its own right, but it won't be a Pokémon game. It will just feel like a game that had Pokémon placed on top of it to attract more people. Go is an ambitious project, and I'd like nothing more than to see myself proven wrong, but the best way I can describe it, is that it's catering to the wrong audience.
