Spineblade
Now that's a nice Volcarona, Viri. And Larvesta, too, of course. Edited March 24, 2016 by Spineblade
Ironbound
Thanks very much, Steffo and Spine. I greatly appreciate your support. But course I'd be glad to make a Noivern, Steffo. If you're OK with lineart, then it can be made sooner, but if it's to be a coloured thing it'll probably not be possible as of now, but I'll see what I can do! Ironbound
Really casual pen sketch of Noivern. Summer here is brutal; 43 degrees Celcius and it isn't even proper summer yet. Perfect weather for refreshing fruit. It is a fruit bat, after all. And I admit this sketch is very, very casual; I do like noivern, though, and I will make a more serious art of it later! I'm taking a small break from drawing for now. I won't be doing anything new, so if I do post something it'll probably be of something I've done in the past.

Ironbound
What? Of course it's casual! I didn't do any color, shadow or proper muscle/fur lining or anything. Barely more than a cartoon, really! *walks off grumbling*
mde2001
I'm with Flux. That is the most amazing casual artwork I've ever seen. My trying super hard artwork resembles disfigured plants that haven't had water in months. Everything in this thread is incredible and you are incredible! Keep at it
Ironbound
Aww, that's very kind of you, Michael. And don't discourage yourself! I believe that art is something that anyone can do, with the only element that's variable being time. If you keep at it, I'm certain that your work will shine! Halloween
here I am again – fun is over, kids Yeah of course i don't expect you to edit finished pieces (especially not made of ink), just... stuff to keep in mind i guess? i've also spent my entire career getting heckled by art directors; it feels so good to take it out on unsuspecting strangers on the internet. mhhhmmm who says Scizor is genderless? dude. dude. woah that's some twilight zone stuff right there. so let me say this: no matter the wasp waist and what buffy_the_vampireslayer_s01e04_720.mpg has told you, insects in bikinis hold a constant value of -1. here i made a graph to illustrate i lied it's not a graph please don't say "that's my fetish". please so i'm doing my best not to let this taint my view of that volcarona; dAMN that's one cool drawing. the specular on the legs especially, and the WINGS - how the fuck do you do something in INK? how many first borns did you sacrifice to evil fairies for talent like yours? my only issue is that the back-facing wing seems to be like, twice as wide as the one facing us. noivern - well screw you. i love that he's eating a watermelon. i love that noibat looks like sliightly creepy too, instead of being 100% cute flaff. i might re-include 'im on my team just because of this drawing. saving the best for the last; Genesect. I'm almost tempted to ask if I can 3d this design 'cause hoooly shit, so many details I love. the tire. the wires. i fucking love wires it's like my specialty to add way more wires, wires are love, wires are life. The arms! The knees! I love that you gave him fully functional ball-joint knees and then put a fucking steel beam on them so that they can't move worth shit. suck on that genesect. if anything i have a hard time seeing what's going on with the back-gun attachment - where is the thing behind his head coming from? but wergh i'm just nitpicking because unabashed flailing is unbecoming for a lady. good job man

Spineblade
Viri, if that's what a casual Noivern drawing is like in your eyes, I'm ready for a serious Noivern drawing to blow my mind and make a mess in my bedroom. People often find their own artwork to be less good than others seem to make of it, but I believe that's because it's so difficult to live up to your mental image of something - It's easy to imagine an incredible drawing, but far more difficult to actually make one. Since you're the only one who has access to the original mental image, your perspective might focus more on the imperfections of the real piece compared to it than the rest of us. Ironbound
All right, srs bsns talk: Once again, I must tell you all that I highly value all feedback, so you need not fear offending me or anything of that sort. I fully appreciate the points that all of you have made, and would be glad to continue receiving such inputs. Halloween, I must first tell you that the quoted Scizor comment was merely a joke. I do not have any fetish for insects; indeed, I am a straitlaced person who avoids even the so called 'artistic nudity'. I frankly do not see the semblance of a bikini in the Scizor armour, though I concede that you may see it as such. I will not now change it, since I feel that ruins the effort, but yes, i do take your point that the red/black contrast and the general waspish figure might lend that notion credence. Also I am disappointed that you didn't give me a graph. I love graphs. As for the Volcarona, I gather that you are happy with it, save for the width of the rear wings. I know that lepidopteran front wings are broader than their rear wings, but I must point out to you that what I drew is a Volcarona, not an actual Atlas Moth. The Pokemon Volcarona has six wings instead of the conventional four, and all are of the same shape and width. I have altered it and added enough detail to make it seem more realistic (such as adding venation, structured segments on the legs and spiracles) without changing the fundamental design. I take it that you're entirely happy with Noivern, even though strangely everyone is more pleased with it than I am myself. Last of all, Genesect. Yes, I am glad that you approve of the design in general. Your two points, I gather, are the position of the cannon and the steel strut below the knee. As for the cannon, it is mounted on hydraulic pistons/winches that stem from its shoulder blades/back. It is rather hard to render that without too much detail and cramped lines, so I gave it a more minimalist look. As for the beam on the knee, I know that placing a strut between two parts of a ball-and-socket arrangement arrests motion. That is precisely the point: to not let it move. I added the struts as a sort of 'kickstand' or retractable bar, to 'lock' the leg as Genesect steadies itself to launch its projectiles from its cannon. Don't ask me why I thought it should do that though; some things are just whimsical. I don't see it as a mechanical flaw, since it was intentionally added for the purpose explained, but I am always open to criticism. And yes, Spine, I agree that with the notion of the design in my head, what I translate onto paper usually tends to be viewed with a jaundiced eye. Thanks for your support! Ironbound
More lineart of STEEEEEEEEEL! You guys don't seem to like it if I call it casual, so I won't... CAW CAW: Skarmory seemed to me more reptilian than avian, so I modeled it after a ratite (the ostrich and emu family), more specifically the Cassowary, or dinosaur-bird. Of course, the only change was to make it a flying cassowary, since despite being bulkier than a battle tank the metalbirb can somehow fly. Popular Post Ironbound
This is too different to be edited in with the previous thing, so I add it as its separate post. Mods don't hurt me pls. This follows a general 'Pursuit' theme, featuring some of the best users of that move. More steel types, of course, but... [insert Vinny magnet here] It's a pencil sketch this time. Of course, it's still more of a cartoony style, but rather more macabre. I also thought it would be a nice touch to add the silhouettes of the pre-evolutions behind them. Shad_
That Skarmory is pretty good, even tho i have Ornitophobia so to see even a draw makes me feel quite "strange" lol Good work also with the team you posted after it, man i wish i was as good as you in this stuff

Ironbound
All right, here we are again...sort of, not really. SO it rained yesterday. A very heavy and sudden summer shower, not uncommon but still refreshing. I like the rain very much, and as I stood watching the thunderstorm I thought back to a happier time when I used to play in the rain on the seaside and watch dolphins. Which irks me today to remember that there still isn't an actual Dolphin Pokemon. The closest thing we have to anything that can fit in the Delphinidae family is Kyogre. Granted, Orcas are technically dolphins ('killer whale' is a misleading name; it stems from 'whale killer' as they hunted large whales, and are themselves not really whales per se), the largest of the family, but you know what I mean -- we need a 'proper' dolphin of the Bottlenose kind. Cetaceans are not even remotely unknown, and it beats me why we only have a beachball whale and an admittedly magnificent Orca as representatives of such a varied group of mammals. If GF can make multiple dogs, cats, snakes, and even jellyfish, why can't they make a Dolphin, a Beluga or a Narwhal? ...anyway, to get to the point, here is a concept I drew of a Dolphin Pokemon. I rather imagine it to be fast and powerful, with a wide movepool. It's something I did quite a while ago, to be frank, but as I have nothing new to show for now you may as well take a gander at this: Obviously it is a water/steel type. This drawing is in felt pens, and is supposed to be a mix of a bottlenose dolphin and a narwhal, another unique mammal GF missed out on. I rather imagine it to be the male counterpart of a split evolution line, a bit like the Ralts line, with the female counterpart being something modeled after the more graceful Beluga whale, which is again also technically a dolphin (damned Englishmen can't name things right for beans) and not a whale. I like this concept so much that in future I will do a detailed art of them both, perhaps with an explanation. Here's to hoping GF gives us a good and strong dolphin in Gen7! Until next time! Ironbound
Lazy Viri strikes back! This is the result of me getting bored in college, and makng the best of a black pen and paper. Of course, it's nothing more than a filled-in doodle, so don't expect too much importance given to perspective or angles and whatnot. nope. nothing here.

Halloween
Meanwhile, I love you you keep saying "no more art for a while now" after, roughly, every update and yet you keep blessing us with (for us) new stuff like every 12 hours.
Ironbound
Why do you keep catching me out? You know I hate to stop drawing, so even though I try to say nope, no more drawing, I invariably end up continuing. Best not look a gift horse in the mouth, hm? But quite seriously, come April and I'll be off for a month and a half. This is just me trying (and failing) to disengage before then. Sigh...in fact I've done another drawing just now. I'll post it tomorrow... Yes, within 12 hours again, goddamit. Prepare yourself for steel. Lots of steel.
