unibrower
So I just battled El with his Arceus..level 75, and i lost and it sent me back to the pokemon centre at the 8th gym but when I was watching a walkthrough on this part the person who was playing lost the battle and the scene continued on. Albeit this video is from 3 years ago so i guess it's changed, but are you really expected to beat the level 75 arceus? I ended up going all the way back and i ended up paralyzing the arceus but not doing any damage to it, i switched to my golem with sturdy in efforts to do some damage and i used earthquake which shattered all the crystals, i used earthquake 3-4 times with some luck from the arceus missing focus blast and being paralyzed and the ceiling ended up caving in and it killed the arceus, and my golem with sturdy was left with 1hp and got 10,000XP lol. anyways was that supposed to happen? is it really expected to beat that arceus with pokemon under level 60? i guess i got lucky with my strategy lol loopholes but yeah anyone have an answer? Fumble
If you sided with Radomus, you are required to defeat the Arceus, but if you sided with El, you do not. So I guess, technically, it isn't expected for you to win, since it's optional. It is possible with luck or a good strategy (i.e. lower its accuracy and stall it, Destiny Bond / Perish Song, brute force, etc.)
unibrower
haha oh man that seems like a real costly decision to make, that's probably the luckiest thing that's happened to me in this game as of now. anyways thanks just wanted to clarify
Pandalex12
I used pure brute force sacrificing my focus sash ;-; Wasn't prepared at all but I refused to go back on my choice at that point.
Ironbound
It depends on the choices you made down there. Siding with Radomus pisses El off more, and the game forces you to beat Arceus-ditto in order to proceed. Siding with El, however, allows you to be beaten by Arceus-ditto and still continue the story. A bunch of fighting type moves can be of use; Close Combat on Arcanine or Superpower on Nidoqueen, if you don't have Blaziken or Infernape. Another Felix
I brute force it. Lowered it's speed a lot with Golem's Bulldoze (Sturdy was a godsend), lowered it's special attack with Delphox's Mystical Fire, and then just beat it down. The God Fist
I just 2-shot it with my Blaziken.
Ironbound
Good for you for having the KFCBURD then. It is the most borked starter after all.
unibrower
i regret my starter choice of squirtle more and more as the game progresses don't know what i was thinking..not even my top 3 favourite starter choices. are there any other starters i can get in the game? TimTim
Squirtle is bae, it has got multiple coverage moves like dragon pulse, dark pulse at its disposal man :[ You can get most other starters via event quests, like Piplup etc. I used haxes, haxes are your best friends during Arceus battle, especially Toxic from Dragalge etc Edited April 7, 2016 by TimTim

You can get Chikorita, Tepig, Squirtle, Chespin, Cyndaquil, Piplup, Turtwig, Fennekin, and Totodile from other events in game, although some are very late. All starters will be available by other events by the end of the game, though~ It looks like you can get Chikorita and Tepig from where you're at (and Squirtle I guess). In Azurine Island, in the shack there's a guy who wants a Chimecho and will give you a Chikorita. In Pyrous Mountain, you can use Strength and find Tepig. Ironbound
(But chikorita and tepig are two of the worst starters in the game. Really subpar stats, no great movepool, outclassed by every other bulky Grass or offensive fighting or Fire type) It's better for you to invest in a Tangrowth (Tangela can be found in the woods next to the vine-ravaged city wards) or a Darmanitan which you should be able to trade for a Luvdisc from a girl at Apophyll academy. (That stupid feesh is found in Tanzan lake)
unibrower
wow love how they're all obtainable, really want to get the piplup and totodile at some point and definitely the fennekin as i've never used the new generation pokemon in regards to my blastoise, how do i get those moves? i agree his defensive stats are very impressive but i really don't like having bite at level 55..lol same with protect and skull bash, i feel the movepool is horrible for most of my pokemon
Ironbound
You'll get the Dark Pulse TM eventually. One of the few good TMs in this game, but you've a longish way to go for that. You can also breed Aurora Beam onto it, if I'm not much mistaken. Also, Aura Sphere can be bred onto Blastoise by breeding it with a Clawitzer, which learns it naturally. Clauncher can be caught by fishing in certain locations of an icy Waterfall when you get to it... oldtofu
that walk back is stupid brutal - also, piggybacking on this thread a lil bit, but is it at all possible to head back to Reborn at this point without defeating Arceus? unibrower
sounds awesome thanks for not giving anything away, i don't want to know any spoilers or anything but was wondering if there was a thunderbolt TM in this game? my ampharos could really use a decent thunder move other than thunderpunch ah just checked the list and it learns thunder in 3 levels, need to beat the 8th gym though. im going to the move tutor and ill teach it discharge over thunderpunch as his special attack is much higher than his attack Edited April 7, 2016 by zfbhoy
TimTim
Adding to what Viri said, you can also get Flash Cannon for Blastoise via relearner, it is Blastoise level 1 move which cannot learn by its both pre-evo forms. and yes Viri, Magnezone is superior Flash Cannon user. dead account
that walk back is stupid brutal - also, piggybacking on this thread a lil bit, but is it at all possible to head back to Reborn at this point without defeating Arceus? It is possible, but I'm not sure if you can go through the shortcut that opens up after going down into Citae D'arc Astae(or whatever it's called) before beating Arceus. You'll probably have to go all the way back through Adventurine Woods, Tanzan Mountain, and the Rail Network to get back to Reborn City. Also, you can heal in the conservation center building on the west side of Route 1. So you don't have to go all the way back through Route 1 if you lose. Damn straight! But in any case, Flash Cannon is kinda terrible on Blastoise, because it lacks a lot of power when not used by a Steel type, and has terrible coverage anyway. Steel is SE against only Rock, Ice and Fairy, and Blastoise can already deal with the former two with its STAB water moves and with Aura Sphere, should it have it. And since Blastoise is so fat, he shouldn't have any problems with Fairy types. Actually, STAB boosted Hydro Pump has a base power of 165, whereas even a SE non-STAB Flash Cannon has a Power of only 160. Don't bother teaching Blastoise Flash Cannon, in all honesty. He can't make good use of it.
RainbowHugs
You only have to try beat him if you side with Radamus, if your with El, you don't have to
Alistair
As far as other starters go, you can also get Mudkip (current Squirtle event) and Bulbasaur (current Chikorita event) if you get your hands on an old version of Reborn, like episode 10 or 11 I think

unibrower
Thunderbolt isn't available yet, sadly :[ Discharge would probably be a good alternative though, yeah. that sucks, ampharos doesn't even learn it and yeah i taught him discharge definitely better than thunderpunch. just beat luna, really surprised she was that easy though, i honestly think that's the first time all game i beat a gym leader on the first try. weird that is was luna, her and bennet were actually the two easiest battles in terms of 'boss battles' as of yet
Ironbound
Luna is one of those leaders who is easy to beat if you have the right matchup, as she is more heavily reliant on a single build. As long as you have a good Fairy type with above average speed and power, like Gardevoir, most of her team should be easily defeated. The two things that can tank a Moonblast, being g Bisharp and Tyranitar, are both x4 weak to Fighting, so a good fighting type pair-up is even easier. All the best for the upcoming battles... And yes, most Electric types do not learn anything stronger than discharge by level up. The main exceptions are Anoharos, Pikachu lime and Heliolisk line, which learn Thunder. Helioptile also learns Thinderbolt and Volt Switch by level-up (Helioptile, mind you, NOT Heliolisk, which evolves by a Sun Stone and hence learns no moves...like that Arcananine) and Heliolisk is a fast, reasonably strong Electric type with good coverage like Grass Knot, Dark Pulse and Surf, so it might be worth your while to raise one. Edited April 8, 2016 by Viridescent
TimTim
Another electric type that learns thunderbolt by natural level up is Eelectrik, evolved form of tynamo, at level 44, Levitate on an electric type is really good leaving it without weakness barring Smack Down and Gravity, plus Eelectross the final evolved form has amazing learnset. Though if you want to get Tynamo, you will have to do it now as once you progress beyond Luna, returning to Reborn City requires completing entire story up to current update. Tynamo can be found in East Peridot alley on thunderstorm day. Also like Arcanine and what Viri said about Helioptile and Heliolisk, Eelektross cannot learn Thunderbolt once it evolves from Eelectrik, so there is that. Eelectross itself boasts a slight higher physical attack, therefore it is optional whether you like to train it to physical or special sweeper depending on what you need on the team, for physical, Eeletrik learns Wild Charge by level 59, which is a pain, i usually run mixed set, with negative nature in speed(it is slow anyway so why not sacrificing speed for more prowess) and positive nature on either physical or special attack(Brave/Quiet respectively)
