Flux
So with the recent release of Dark Souls III, I figured there'd be at least a couple of us playing it. I just got the game today, and I have to say I'm LOVING it so far. It definitely has the potential to be my favorite Souls game, but we'll see how things develop. Anyway, I figured we could all use this thread to discuss the game itself, the lore, the mechanics, neat tricks we find, etc. This would also be a nice place to request Co-Op or PVP or something like that. I'm more than willing to help anyone that I can who's stuck. I can't guarantee I'll know much more than you as I'm new too, but I do have... a good bit of time in Dark Souls I and II, to say the least. Anyway, remember to use spoiler tags when discussing spoilers, which means anything about the plot a boss, etc. should be hidden. Edit: I suppose it'll also help to list what platform you're on. I have it for Steam, so Steam users feel free to hit me up of you want. \[+]/
Narckarth
I'm on PC DS3 it has definitely faster and more aggressive than DS1 and 2. Greedy hits are less risky as well as stamina regenerating being much quicker means that there is more incentive to get the first hit in a fight. estus chugging is also much faster. One thing I'm wondering is that are unkindled undead? At first I thought yes but you don't hollow upon death. But you do have the dark sign which is the mark of the undead. Does anybody have any theories on this? Also am I the only one who has now added weapons skills to the list of "things npc characters shouldn't be allowed to use"? Finally hollows went from pink to green to white. somebody needs to make up their mind. Edited April 14, 2016 by Narckarth
Godot
I picked it up after really enjoying last year's Bloodborne. Apparently DSIII borrows a lot from BB and I approve. I have yet to plug the game in though.
Flux
I've gotta say, I'm really loving the atmosphere and aesthetic this game brings. The moving grey skies in the first area, the castle walls and village in the second.... The Undead Settlement also gives of a very "Salem Witch Trials"-esque vibe, which I think is really cool. Minor Settlement spoilers: Also the little dudes wearing the Thrall Hood are awesome. Easily one of my favorite Dark Souls enemies, especially the one that drags the greatsword around. Minor Settlement spoilers: Also the little dudes wearing the Thrall Hood are awesome. Easily one of my favorite Dark Souls enemies, especially the one that drags the greatsword around. who the fuck decided to give those little bastards a greatsword? The undead settlement is awesome for sure. I'm guessing what's happening there is a fanatic cult who are against the undead have wanted to pillage that place for a while. But with the kingdom of Lothric right there it would be rather difficult to do so without attracting unwanted attention. So when Lothric went up shit creek and lost the paddle the cultist decided to attack. This is just a proto-theory based of the enemy types that are all around the place in the settlement. Can we just take a moment to talk about how awesome some of the weapons are in Dark Souls 3? The move sets in DS3 are amazing! they have so much cool stuff. Most Katana weapons can do the classic sheath followed by a dash and large slash. The Farron Greatsword when two handed gives you a hook which your character slams into the ground and then spins around on, using the momentum to swing the sword. And my personal favourite and weapon of choice the Demon Gauntlets let you attack with a fire spin and then if you strong attack during this slam down creating a pillar of fire. Who else has found some badass stuff like this?
Combat
I just finished watching a play-through of Dark Souls 3, and I still have no idea what just happened. All I know for sure, is Praise the Sun.

Who else has found some badass stuff like this? The Demon Gauntlets are indeed pretty cool. I actually only recently found the Transposing Kiln (I'm playing without any guides or internet help on my first run), so I haven't been able to look at the cool boss weapons until today, when I went on a Transposing spree with all the Souls I had saved up. I just beat Pontiff Sullivan and got the kill 1 or 2 bosses before him, so that shows how long it took. Basically, I spent today going back to all the places where I had seen items that I hadn't gotten or doors I couldn't open and tried to figure out how to get to all of them, eventually getting the Kiln (I felt really stupid on that one because it was just a path I had seen and planned going down but forgot about and never ended up doing it until now). Anyway, I really like a lot of the special moves in this games. The boss weapons have some really cool ones (unfortunately my levels aren't high enough in certain skills to see all of the weapon skills yet). I'm liking Stomp in PVP so far. The poise really catches people by surprise and can net an easy last hit. Spin Slash seems really cool too, although I admittedly don't use any of my weapons that have it. I reeeeally like the Great Scythe special though. I'm leveling up the Scythe now, partially because the skill's so cool and partially because I loved using Scythes in Dark Souls 2, but I haven't actually tested it on enemies yet. It looks cool and the idea of bonus headshot damage sounds awesome. I'm also curious, what's everyone around here using for their current loadout? Do you play Fashion Souls or based around stats? Peersonally, I'm all about Fashion Souls, currently rocking the Fallen Knight Armor (still), the Dark Sword+7, and most recently, the Black Knight Shield. Flux
Sorry for the double post, but I feel like I have to post what just happened to me here. It involves the boss fight with Aldrich, so if you don't want spoilers for that (though there really aren't any, for reasons I'll get to) don't read it. So I accidentally came across a reaaally cheap glitch that allows you to hardcore cheese this boss. I was in the Aldrich covenant all the way through this area, and since the game is so new, I was getting summoned every couple seconds to do pvp against invaders. Anyway, I got into the boss room, started the fight, rolled under his first spell (Which I'm seeing for the first time at this point. This was my first attempt at the boss) and got in 2 hits with my sword. At that point, I get the message "Being Summoned to another world." AKA, my Aldrich covenant was starting up mid-boss fight, which caught me by surprise. I didn't think it would trigger during that. Anyway, I go do the PVP, finish up there, and get teleported back to the boss room. No big deal. The boss regenerated up to full health when I return, as most normal enemies do when you get pulled away for a covenant, which was a little annoying, but I'd only gotten 2 hits in. The big thing was that Aldrich wasn't doing anything. No movement, no attacks, just his idle animations. I ended up killing him without him ever fighting back, which honestly felt really lame. I wanted to see the boss's attacks and patterns, but I guess I'll have to save that for NG+ or watch it on Youtube. Anyway, if you really can't beat this boss and want to resort to cheesing it, that's how. Just join the Aldrich covenant and get summoned while in the boss fight. Definitely a glitch that needs to be fixed, and one I'd like to report to the devs if I knew how.
Narckarth
My current load out is Demon Gauntlets+5 and Pyromancy Flame+10 are my weapons and my armour is currently the firelink set but I'm looking to change it. I'm definitely fashion > function Updated my outfit to be an actual fashion souls instead of just wearing a set. The Flame Witch Karla's Pointed Hat Black Hand Armour Undead Legion Gauntlets Fallen Knight Trousers That 's a weird glitch I haven't even found anything similar in the game that might be worth testing on other bosses. You didn't miss out much on Aldrich he is a rather standard boss, except for his one hail fire attack that can very easily murder you. Also encase anybody is having trouble with him and doesn't wanna glitch it he is super weak to fire so if you can get a hold of a weapon that does fire damage or summon a pyromancer you should have a much easier time. Hank_Nghiem
So I just beat Dark Souls III, and dear god are some of those bosses ridiculous to beat. I ran with a Uchigatana + 10 Sharp Infusion, with a Yorshka's Chime with that Great Magic Barrier, Bountiful Sunlight, Dark Moon Blade and Sunlight Blade. For the armor I used the Fallen Knight Set, and I threw the shield in the trash after realizing the bosses literally slam you on the floor for blocking anything, however I do swap the Grass Crest Shield for that stamina regeneration. Going to say after the semi disappointing Dark Souls II I was super happy to be crushed and pummeled into the ground by these bosses. I still love Dark Souls I as my favorite, but Dark Souls 3 definitely hit that second spot for me. Anyways going to try pyromancer/strength build next run. So.......... how about that poise.
