Administrators Popular Post Amethyst Posted April 25, 2016 Administrators Popular Post Share Posted April 25, 2016 Throughout development I've alluded repeatedly to the frustrations of a certain field effect that was hell to make simply for the fact that it was 5x as much work as every other field. This is its story. Based off of wisteria hanging gardens, the Flower Garden Field is the most complex Field Effect in the game. Throughout the course of a single battle, it grows and changes based on the action. For those who can use its power, tending the garden is necessary. For their opponents, unless they're able to pull the weeds, facing the fully fledged flowers' force will feel far and away like an exercise in futility. so i mean, honestly, please just burn this field down. just, do it. you'll be doing me a favor. you'll be doing yourself a favor. you'll be doing literally everyone a favor. except whoever you're battling against i guess. but they probably deserve it anyway. The Flower Garden Field has 5 stages it can progress through, each one with increasingly potent effects. Because of this, communicating the exact effects of each stage is a rather muddy process. While handled well by the new field effect app in-game, I've done my best to organize it below. Do bear with the clutter. "Seeds line the field." Starts at Stage 1 and increases to a maximum of Stage 5. These moves grow the field one stage on use:Rototiller, Flower Shield, Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Growth These abilities grow the field one stage on activation:Flower Gift, Flower Veil, Drought, Drizzle, These moves cut the field by one stage on use:Cut Activates Flower Gift and Swarm Rototiller additionally boosts user's Attack and Special Attack The stat-changing effect of these moves is amplified:Rototiller Growth's effect increases x2 Nature Power becomes Growth Camouflage changes the user's type to Grass Secret Power may lower Evasion STAGE 2 All Stage 1 effects in addition to and overridden by... Cut hits Grass types for super effective damage These moves increase in base power x1.5Cut Always activates Harvest and Leaf Guard Flower Shield additionally boosts Sp. Def and the user's defenses The base accuracy of these moves becomes 100:Sleep Power, Stun Spore, Poison Powder Grass type attacks increase in base power x1.2 Bug type attacks increase in base power x1.5 Overgrow activates at 66% HP Ingrain's effect increases x2 STAGE 3 All Stage 2 and lower effects in addition to and overridden by... Flower Veil passively reduces damage x0.5 to its user and allied Grass types Growth's effect increases x3 In the absence of Rain or Water Sport, these moves will transform this field into a Burning Field:Heat Wave, Flame Burst, Lava Plume, Eruption, Searing Shot, Fire Pledge Sweet Scent additionally lowers defenses Fire attacks increase in base power x1.5 Flower Shield's effect is doubled Grass type attacks increase in base power x1.5 Grass type Pokemon take damage reduced by x0.75 Swarm increases Bug attacks' power by x2 Overgrow activates at any HP amount These moves' base power increases x1.2: Petal Dance Petal Blizzard Infestation deals 1/6 Max HP Damage per turn (from 1/8) Secret Power additionally lowers both defenses STAGE 4 All Stage 3 and lower effects in addition to and overridden by... Chlorophyll is activated Grass type attacks increase in base power x2 Grass type Pokemon take damage reduced by x0.67 Bug type attacks increase in base power x2 Overgrow increases Grass attacks' power by x2 Sweet Scent's effect increases x2 Ingrain's effect increases x4 These moves' base power increases x1.5:Petal Dance, Petal Blizzard Infestation deals 1/4 Max HP Damage per turn (from 1/8) STAGE 5 All Stage 4 and lower effects in addition to and overridden by... The following moves target both opposing Pokemon in double battles:Petal Dance, Petal Blizzard, All Powder Moves Grass type attacks increase in base power x3 Grass type Pokemon take damage reduced by x0.5 Swarm increases Bug attacks' power by x3 Overgrow increases Grass attacks' power by x3 Sweet Scent's effect increases x3 Infestation deals 1/3 Max HP Damage per turn (from 1/8) Nature Power becomes Petal Blizzard Secret Power's effect increases x2 A doozy, right? But if that looks like a lot, remember that most of those effects are just similar forms of each other scaling upwards with each stage. Though inching ever closer to completion, E16 is still some time away. Make no mistake though, despite the massive downtime, the project still has a pulse. As does the episode. Good luck with that, by the way. Until then, may the fresh scent of flowers protect you always. 1
Rosesong
Flower Garden field... Hmm, sounds like quite the relaxing place, though hell on a battlefield. Can't wait to see this field effect in action, Ame
mde2001
Wow, that would have been painful to code, and it is going to be painful to learn. I'm all for burning it with fire , although I wonder if the AI will be able to use it well. Nice job!
bepe
Yikes! If you don't have a good fire type this field can get out of hand quickly.
DW~
Gets the fire types ready in advance Sounds cool, but I feel like mass soft resets will happen because of it. But that's a given in Reborn

ZEL
Infestation's deals 1/3 Max HP Damage per turn (from 1/8) I will burn this field and nobody will be able to stop me. I don't need someone trapping my 'mons on there for a three turn trip to hell, no sir. the project still has a pulse. As does the episode. Good luck with that, by the way. Ironbound
Woah. And I liked gardening, too. I can see this field being a massive pain to deal with if it's allowed to escalate. Grass types and Bug types, as well as things like Florges, I think, will be supremely powered-up by these effects. The field looks beautiful and intricate, certainly, and I appreciate the effort that went into coding it... Must be as painstaking as cultivating a trophy garden! 'Tis a shame that Chandelure will have to burn it down, then. Or maybe Yanmega can abuse Bug Buzz; it can stall out turns with Detect until the field grows, while also boosting its own speed in the process. Very interesting, indeed. Narckarth
Just burn it, wait you say that like there are other ways of playing? either way it'll go the way of anything else the crosses my path. looks like an interesting edition though I look forward to seeing how the flammably challenged deal with it. TheGamedawg
I think it's a cool attention to detail how the field visually changes depending on how powerful it is. This field in general looks crazy. A couple of my Pokemon actually benefit greatly from this, but I might want to just burn it down depending on who I'm fighting.
Sheep
Wait you want me to burn this? Are you crazy? In the level 5 version of the field: Heracross Swarm boosted Megahorn: 1080 Base Power. Lilligant Petal Dance (with my choice of Chlorophyll or Own Tempo): 810 Base Power (607.5 hitting both opponents in a double battle). I'm not going to destroy this work of art. I'm going to abuse the hell out of it.
Administrators Amethyst Posted April 25, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted April 25, 2016 some more personal thoughts that i didn't necessarily want in the main announcement: the hardest part of making this field was the graphics themselves, because it actually went through like five different variations before i settled on the current one, and i just really didn't like the look of any of them... i'd spent like six hours one night, had it finished, it was great, loaded it in game and the orientation was totally off so I had to redo the whole thing and it was just ... all bad from there. when i started looking for real gardens for inspiration I found the hanging gardens and was just completely awestruck. seriously, look up the pictures on google, they're absolutely gorgeous. but i'm really excited about that much of it in terms of attributes (what i've taken to calling each individual bullet point of a field effect) there was a lot i held back on, cut out, etc. don't remember specifics at this point but whatever. i'm almost certainly going to have to make balance changes to this field until it plays fairly but obviously those changes won't be happening for a while yet.
Fumble
so,,, is this Laura's field? It looks scary :x Could also be used for Bennett since Bug moves are also boosted. but rip no burning it and cheering the fight like in Shelly's fight till stage 3 :[
Hexagoen
Im guessing that this is probably the field for adrienn or that e4 member i forgot the name of. Laura. ty chubb. (guessing on the remaining leaders left in the league we havent battled) if so, this poses an interesting change of strategy for the player, as they either have to change the field, or utilize its bonuses to their advantage. Imo keep the changes. its a nice change of pace, and it makes for some potential interesting stategies! im looking forward to playing with this field (assuming we see it in e16) keep up the great work ame (and the rest of the reborn dev-kuns)
Imperial
I love how you tell people to just burn after spending so much time to create it xD. But properly used, this field makes you almost invincible, so it's time to train some new Grass types !

InnocentSerenity
Such a beautiful garden. Shame that it needs to burn, I guess... Or I can just put a Rainbow over it for the same effect. Yeah, I'll do that.
Atlas105
Goo my 7ft, fiery- wristed, ninja chicken! Burn it to the ground!!
Cyanna Cyril
Is fire the only way to stop the field from growing? Couldn't we hypothetically freeze the flowers to death instead of burning them, or is that too complicated? Anyways, seems like a fun field and can't wait to have it!
