Pokemon XY and XY&Z. Did the Pokemon Anime get better?

The only real problem I have with the new trailer is the way Ash looks throughout it. I don't have a problem with the art style or animation of other characters, just Ash. I'll still probably watch it just to see what it's about though.

I just watched the subbed version of this weeks episode and noticed a few things I missed the first time watching it.

First of all, it looks like Alain got rid of his mega ring. You do not see it one his arm and even Charizard doesn't have it's mega stone.

Next, Ash makes a speech about returning to Kanto and "starting over from zero." We already knew this was happening, but further proof he's abandoning all his pokemon

Finally, when Ash suggests a rematch against Alain sometime in the future Alain thinks "I've always been saved by you. This time is no different. I cannot win against you." I did not understand this part at all, especially considering that Alain has beaten Ash not only during the league, but two other times. Of course he could be talking about Ash's determination or something, but it's phrased a little weirdly.

Yeah, it's presumed Alain got rid of his mega bracelet because its origins tie it to Lysandre and Alain doesn't trust that the bracelet won't be doing something else to fuel malicious intents. I think that's fair enough, I'm sure he'll get a new one eventually, maybe from Steven or Sycamore. I'm also sure he still has his Zard X stone, just nothing to use it with.

I think what Alain means is that he can never win against Ash in a way that isn't the traditional battle victory meaning of the phrase. More like, Alain has realized that as a human being, he can never win against Ash's pure determination and strength because Ash was able to believe in Alain even after finding out about everything. Ash was able to not break down in the face of Kalos destruction and Ash was able to open Alain's eyes to what he must do. All in all, I just think Alain believes Ash has the qualities of a winner in a moral sense and that he himself can never match them.

For the remainder of this anime, we have Serena's episode, we have an episode for RIP syncfrog, an episode where the group says their goodbyes, and then we have a random episode about Alexa and Sycamore exploring ruins in attempt to find out the secret of the legendary pokemon (Zygarde? Or maybe all 3 Kalos legends)

Regardless, it seems like the Sun and Moon anime starts on November 17 with a 1 hour special. I will probably watch it to see what it's like, but if it's 40 minutes of Ash being stupid (and I mean more stupid than usual) I will probably drop the series

So while in this video the host is in awe of the software he completely forgot the point. Ash looks completely unappealing, it does not matter if he detail is more increased or we are reaching a new era in animation. If the end result is bad then it failed. The viewers don't care about such stuff. A new software should never be an excuse for lack of quality to begin with since that is the animation team's responsability. The nonsense he spews of at the end , starting from 6:08, makes me wonder how out of touch he is with reality. He basically blames the viewers for not liking the new series.

I've heard this argument spewed before for what is probably one of the best anime this year, Mob Psycho 100. Look, if you dislike the new character designs, that's entirely up to you. But, at least recognize that the new character designs were not meant to make the show more kid-friendly, etc. They were designed that way to allow for more vibrant movement and to pour more visual personality into the animation. What you've failed to realize is that the more rigid or complex you make a character design, the harder it is to give that character vibrant animation because of how many parts the animation director has to keep an account of and because of time and budget constraints that the animators have to work under. Rigid designs lead to rigid movement.

So, don't paint the viewers in a broad strokes. A lot of people really are looking forward to the more vivid animation. They just don't happen to be the vocal portion of the base.

It's funny. He seems more in touch with it than you as the point of the entire video flew right over your head. That last minute, which you claim he's blaming viewers in, is saying that if you don't like the new character designs and would rather keep them on-model 100% of the time in exchange for being less animated, fine. That's your prerogative. But, then stop making up these false arguments about 'running out of budget', 'appealing to kids', and 'capitalizing on Youkai Watch', etc.

I'm not even sure why there's an argument about this. Neither side can prove or disprove the reasons behind the art/design changes, so may as well just all agree to disagree. If you like it, cool, if you don't, also cool. It may or may not be trying to appeal to children or may or may not be trying to emulate Yokai Watch. Maybe it is to allow for more vivid animation, maybe it's not. All in all, studios always have a reason for changes and sometimes those reasons do indeed come from public discontent with the previous installment.

One thing is for sure, and that is, the SM anime is going to be light-hearted and focus more on casual slice of life themes rather than intense badge-collecting and fighting in tournies or leagues and saving the world from the villains. Its tag line is apparently "a laugh a minute", so that entails they wish to emphasize a more comedic aspect this time around instead of action( hence Ash's numerous questionable faces and acts). Personally, the change isn't to my taste since I don't approve of retcons and blatant disconnecting from previous series. I like my continuity and consistency along with closure, thus I've chosen to stop being a viewer of the anime after XY&Z. Other people are free to like or dislike the new thing, as well as watch or not watch it.

Now onto today's episode:

I found it overall uninteresting and fillerish, but it was a needed buildup to let Serena make her decision. It seems she turned down Palermo and instead took her suggestion to visit Hoenn and partake in contests there before returning to Kalos. Can't say I'm surprised, there weren't too many options to begin with. I'm disappointed that she basically never voiced her feelings to Ash, but her feelings were never what defined her character, so I suppose it's nothing new or different than previous females who may have had crushes on Ash. At the very least we know Serena is mature and accepts her close bond with Ash even without voicing her feelings.

Next week's preview:

Apparently we're going to see a zombie Clemont, Xerosic, Snakegarde and generally more Zygarde stuff. From the preview it seems that Ash is going to drop Goodra off at the marsh again, and it also looks like Greninja(or its sync variant) is going to stay in a forest with Snakegarde, maybe it will act as the forest's protector from now on or something. In any case, it's likely getting ditched but at least it's not getting ditched at Oak's. It's also unclear whether it loses its sync form, but I don't think it will, not permanently anyway

this week episode is interesting

except thaat one word which has been said above

at least the writer didn't troll that much

and for the next week! Why do I feel like Greninja would become Zygarde's bodyguard...?

Because that's what the preview hints at

At least its not Johto were literally every character is atm. Could mean they want her to be in a Sun and Moon arc at one point as well.

And after watching the last preview, that could make a lot of sense. It will be really sad and slightly disappointing if true though. Although it be a pretty interesting twist, so it wouldn't be terrible.

tldr of today's ep:

TFW a super speshul snowflake frog supposedly does a better guardian job than your own local ecosystem guardian LEGEND and thus has to stay behind and protect Kalos .

Such a parody. But on the bright side, when Bonnie becomes a trainer, she's gonna travel the world with puni-chan! .

Rip anime next week, 'twas nice while it lasted
