raspbel
Some background on my art history: I've been drawing for about 4 years (around the same time I got into Tumblr and ask blogs). My art style was pretty weebish as seen here but look at what can happen if you practice! (Yes, I acknowledge that I didn't truly color the thing but it looks aesthetically pleasing). For around 2 years, i've drawn traditionally so it was hard for me to practice with my tablet without feeling bad for my art. Now i'm more adept with it and my digital illustrations have never been better! Of course, there is always room for improvement. I really love getting comments on my art! I am also up for art trades or art requests, so if you're into that sorta thing then hit me up because I can never get good ideas in my head. Mostly I draw females so if you want me to draw an overly masculine character then expect something less than what you would like. I also have a bunch of doodles for my OCs! They look simple, but I still love them. Here are some examples under the spoiler: UPDATED AS OF 07/03/16 Rawberry (The Gray Garden) - 04/26/16 Ryan (OC) - 05/27/16 Florinia and Julia (PKMNReborn) - 05/28/16 Etoile (OC) - 06/05/16 Ryan // SELF HARM (OC) - 06/05/16 Remilia Scarlet (Touhou Project) - 06/07/16 Ryan // SELF HARM 2 (OC) VER. 2 - 06/11/16 Art Trade # 1 - 06/12/16 Raspbel and Rawberry (The Gray Garden) - 06/15/16 Miniel and Daniel (OC) - 06/18/16 Yokaiying (Fanart) - 06/21/16 Etoile BLUE (OC) - 06/23/16 Miniel BLUE (OC) - 06/25/16 Art Trade # 2 - 07/01/16 Koishi Komeiji // BLOOD (Touhou Project) - 07/03/16 Thank you for reading / looking at the thread and have a nice day! Alou
Aah your art is super cute! Especially that strawberry girl picture! And your lineart is really clean and nice :3 The best thing I could recommend is to start working on shading. Once you start shading, you start getting a better feel for things like the folds in clothing and how light interacts with the materials you're drawing. It also helps with learning more about anatomy because pose affects shading. If you really feel like pushing your boundaries, try drawing some pics with full, real-life backgrounds! It makes you really think about how all the pieces of your art fit together. (and by real-life i just mean, having a bg that's like an actual location or something the characters are interacting with - not that it has to look realistic) It makes you consider proportions, shading, colors - basically everything! It's really good for teaching yourself more about drawing.
Ironbound
All the best; I'll be sure to expect great works from you in the future. Do keep up your efforts! Well, since you ask for feedback, and because I think I can afford to offer advice, having a little more experience in these fields, I would suggest that you focus more in drawing proportions as of now, and then gently progress to perspective and shading patters. For instance, your faces and body patters are a tad flattish, and while I'm not a fan of the anime-ish styles of art, I can nevertheless point out the somewhat vague features and postures. I do not mean to offend you, and I hope my suggestions will be taken in the right spirit. Everyone's pace is different, of course, but all achievements are also within everyone's reach! Halloween
First of all - u fessed up the links gurl! The links end in 400.png. i had to change it to 1280.png to enjoy the images in their full magnificent glory. second of all, don't listen to Viridescent; he's an accountant, they're disingenuous by nature. anime style and cal-arts is where the sweet sweet cash is. third of all, it's critique time. this is gonna be long, so grab some tea or a smoothie or smth and settle in. starting with strawberry gal. with a name like "raspbels", i'd think you'd stick to raspberries, but oh well. the colors are lovely! fantastic hues, they go very well together, and i love the mixture between the styles too – did you draw the strawberries as well? 'cause their different-colored greens are quite possibly my favorite part of this picture. i think that just the sheer beauty of the colors and the lineart lets you get away with a lot. her face is quite simplistic, and the anatomy is questionable (more on that later!), but thanks to the clean lines it looks like a stylistic choice. it's almost cheating, haha. Anyway, on the anatomy: the biggest issue are her legs. where did they come from? where did they go? cotton eyed joe. why are her calves as long as her entire torso and face? i get the feeling there's no stickman sketch under all those folds, patching her body parts together, and it should be. As for the torso, it's mostly good, there's just a lacking sense of direction – it doesn't feel like the neckline (which otherwise looks great) "points" the same way as the rest of her body. If her waist was as defined on the right side (my pov) as it was to the left, that would also help a great deal to angle her body. and since the legs and face makes it look the torso should be more angled, the left should be less visible; shorter if you may, just to sell the effect more. the arms are good, great length and thickness, the line could have gone further down on her right arm, as much of it as it's covering, but again your beautiful lineart makes this hardly noticeable (argh!) then the wings. they're mostly okay, but what's going on up with her neck? are the wings joining up behind her head? do they grow from the top of her neck? what's going on?? the overall shape of them is quite pleasing thou. and her face! ah, my achilles heel, my greatest weakness, the darkness to my ghost-typing: anime faces. They're so onerous to criticize because so much of it boils down to style n druthers; "oh it's not realistic to have eyes covering a third of one's face? suck it up" That being said. Her head needs to be bigger, and the face smaller. anime or not, there's no way anything resembling a brain in there, and if you look at the width of it, imagine where her ears would be. a face isn't supposed to end at the ears. The eyes... i almost feel like the picture would have looked better with both eyes closed, because her one open eye is sort of creepy. i'm out of my depth with this 'cause i don't know what kind of style you're going for, but if I had to take a stab, early Ghibli? Consider making the pupil larger and rounder, less goat-y, and add some specular to it. this is a bit later in style, but look at this handsome, handsome Howl and steal the fuck outta it. okay next one. as always with my critiques, i do one picture properly, then i run out of energy and half-ass the hell outta it his hair looks great! i wish my hair looked that great, haha. but his head is too small, again. and his eyebrows sort of look like they're lineart remaining, but the glasses are super neat and i like the design of them. i think. i don't actually know much about glasses, but they look nice! i have 99 problems with his neck, but it's one of those anime things, isn't it? to have necks like they have been decapitated and then had their heads put back on their bodies on poles? sigh. anime and their impossible beauty ideals; i wish all anime was about crudely drawn penguins. the anatomy of this guy is kinda all over the place. im gonna go in raw on this one and im already feeling sorry about it, but!! before i do that i wanna remind you that your lineart is delightful and you have a fucking fantastic sense of color. like, you made his skin tone match with the blue lines in the background, shoes and jeans. that takes skill. but you need to start using references for anatomy, study, study study!! you got what it takes and your progress has already been balls, this is just the next step. i recommend looking at naked ppl and just drawing what you see, there's plenty of references for that on the internet; if you want to, I can find you some, tell me and I'll pm you links – even if it's not porn, and most have underwear I don't wanna tempt the rules of this site more than I already am. okay, here we go. his legs are too short for his body by quite a lot, and I don't feel like I should be seeing his shoes quite that much from above. the knee is bending like it's made of rubber, and we should not be seeing any thigh-gap on this guy when one leg is casually put behind the other. the leg behind him is significantly thicker as well, at the top, it should be the other way around, and his crouch should be more to the left (again, from my point of view). he doesn't look like he's standing on something. again, the torso looks like it should be angled, since the face and legs seems to be, but isn't, and due to the upper arm being thicker then the lower arm, we should see more of the right upper arm. his right palm should also be longer, but the fingers look good! if you bend your fingers like that I feel like the lines of his hands should be visible too, but that might a stylistic thing; and you really nailed the position of his thumb. as for the other hand... i don't even know. the angle of the hand compared to the wrist is really good, but he doesn't look like he's actually holding his waist; the entire palm should be on it, and his fingers are like, waay too short. The outer line on top of his hand is good, the outer line on the bottom of his hand should be higher. phew. okay last picture. please don't leave the site!! again, really nice colors! especially on Julia's hair; that's a really nice shade of green! both their hair, overall, is really really nice. Julia's eyes are also my favorite so far on a character of yours. The critique on this one is just... pretty much what I've said before: too small heads, too long necks. But I really like the flower in the background; you have talent for mixing arts. do you know the artist sakura-rose12 and her webcomic dame daffodil? (it's very short so far, you can def get through it all in 15 min). I feel like she's what you should be looking at, because she has all your trademarks: beautiful lineart, a great sense of color, hard shading, but she's taken it one step further. Look at how she shades skin and works the anatomy, and her simple, yet effective clothing folds. And please keep us updated!! even if you'd abandon this site entirely otherwise (but you know... please don't), keep the thread alive, 'cause i wanna see your progress.
raspbel
Hello! It's been four days since I last posted and in that four days I have fallen into a slump and a couple of bad coincidences that made me uneasy about things. I did manage to make a couple of art for my original characters, although they were for venting. An image of Etoile, an idol. A star, if you will. And another image of Ryan. I've hidden it under a spoiler because it contains depictions of implied self harm. I apologize but I kinda don't want to get any more critiques... Although i'm not sure if that's possible since the title has been immortalized with "feedback" in it. Have a nice day! Ironbound
Just saying, the title can be changed to remove the 'Feedback' tag by editing your first post, and using the 'Full Editor' option. It's not immortalised in that sense, so if you don't want critique, you can always change the thread title to mean just 'Art:Drawing' or something and people will not comment suggestions or opinions. It's still advisable not to switch the tags too much though; better to be consistent. Have a nice day yourself.
raspbel
In honor of 6/6/16, I have made an image of Remilia Scarlet from the Touhou Project series! This is also somewhat of a redraw like the image of Koishi Komeiji, also from the Touhou Project series. I'm still surprised at how one can improve through the years... Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy it. It's pretty bland to look at methinks, but i'm proud of it nevertheless. Have a nice day!
raspbel
Hello. It's me. Back at it with more vent art. Content warning for blood. College is soon so I may not be able to update very much or at all. Have a nice day. Edited June 11, 2016 by raspbel
raspbel
Hello! I finally drew something that isn't bloody or considered vent art. It was an art trade I had with a friend on Tumblr and she wanted me to draw her OC. She told me she was a virus and "glitch aesthetic" popped into my head. I went a little overboard with the aesthetics I think... I think I did pretty well with this one! Even if all the aesthetic is probably considered cheating... Heh. Have a nice day! raspbel
Greeting from college! I'm still not a robot, haha. I was able to squeeze this thing out before it really started so I hope you enjoy it. I apologize since it's horrendously large as well. I did want the aesthetic for it though... Have a nice day! raspbel
I'm here with another pair of doodles!I don't have alot of otherworldly characters shown here yet so I here's some angels! Their names are Miniel and Daniel, respectively. Daniel is actually a fallen angel and her demon form is right here! I love my characters. Does anyone want to talk with me about them?

raspbel
That's a special talent of mine I guess? I just really love playing with aesthetics! I got a couple of palette requests from Tumblr, and here they are. A very blue Etoile and a Miniel for the art thread. Have a nice day!
