Mid Season - Challenge Suggestions

My suggestions. Not complicated. Easy to apply for all Nations.

  • Monotype (use pokemon that share one type)
  • Monogen (use pokemon that were introduced in the same generation)
  • No dual types (use pokemon that only have one type)
  • Turn Down for What (inverse battle)

basically this

also

kinda opposed to this idea. most people that are familiar with the competitive scene pre-gen V, are already our more experienced players, while some newer players may have no idea how things went in gen V or earlier competitive. this may give the more experienced players even more of an advantage than they already have over newer, less experienced players.

note: im not saying that all good players have been around since gen IV-V already, and that all players that started in VI are inexperienced. just saying as an overall note that people that have only just started competitive may not know anything about pre-gen VI competitive.

I think void put it best when he said a good player will be good in any tier. This can easily be applied to past gens. Besides its not that hard to study up the meta. You have a week. The only real issue is fairy type, and that can be solved by taking a type away from the other nations to level the playing field.

Probably decent ones:

Ability Unity: OMotM from a while back, it allows a pokemon to use abilities from any other Pokemon sharing its type (regardless of order, so Normal/Flying = Flying/Normal). Quantity restricted to however many pokemon normally receive the ability for that type (eg. Rock/Flying has Defeatist from Archen and Archeops, so up to two Rock/Flying Pokemon on a team can have Defeatist)

<Plausibly add in ban for abilities obtained from above battling tier>

RainbowGen: Well, we already had RainbowTier.

Revisit Doubles/Triples: We had DUU, so how about a visit to DOU, or a Triples category? Triples with forced all Choice items gogogogo.

Suppression Cup: All Pokemon used must have a BST at or below... 520? 500? 480? Decide via matchups? Plausible ban on Choice, Evolite, and AV, as they provide immediate boosts.

BoringMons: aka you get a Pokemon and four moves. No IVs, EVs, or Nature, outside of those required for Hidden Power.

Bad/meme ones:

Explosionmons: Each pokemon must have either Self-Destruct or Explosion on it. Yes, it's a bad idea.

Hackmons: Like Balanced Hackmons, but without the balance. Everything gets everything, no bans, RIP if you don't get good BST mons.

BH: Heck, that's even a bad idea, what with several of the central mons being obtained by the same nation.

Tier Shift: This is only down in the "bad idea" section due to [REDACTED] getting deities out of the NU/PU region. Shame, since it'd work decently otherwise.

Just to display some larger additions by gen:

Gen III: All normal abilities

Gen IV: Physical/Special split, Snow Warning

Gen V: Hidden abilities, Explosion nerf, Drought/Drizzle outside of Ubers, Scald, Psyshock

Gen VI: Fairy-Type, HP set 60BP, Weather 5/8 turns, K-Off Buff

Yes, I left stuff out, but those are the broad additions. HP, KOff, Shock, Explosion, and Scald were all significant move additions/changes.

Bare-Bones: No EV's or held items (including mega stones) and must have neutral nature (Hardy, Bashful, etc)

Oooh I really like this one.

Word Chain challenge. Pretty simple really: pick your first Pokémon. The second one has to start with the last letter of the first one and so on.

This way even Gaia can play OU

Stand Your Ground: No switching will be permitted by any means, including special ways, such as U-turn or Eject Button, or forcing an opponent to switch, such as Roar, Dragon Tail, or Red Card.

Puts Explosion on every mon to prevent sweeps

Bit late for this, but:

Insurrection: Each team's leader may (for the remainder of the season) take one of the 7 people their opponents have put up to fight this week to fight for their nation.

Mono-a-Mono: When submitting the team roster for the week, each team leader selects one of their types that week, and the team plays using 'mons from only that type (so Monotype).

A Nation of Specialists: Each 'mon must have a different one of the six stats as its highest stat (with EVs taken into account).
