I'm surprised no one is talking about the remaining survivors count. There's 6 people still alive according to the count. Which could mean a few things. First, as much as I hate this same plot point being used again, it seems like Chisa faked her death. Pretty lame, but the odds really point towards that. So that makes 5 survivors. Secondly, there's either an unrevealed participant, or Juzo/Kyoko are still alive. In either case, it would bring the total to 6 like in the count. If I'm being honest, I'd rather see Juzo back. And I want him to punch the ever living shit out of whoever the mastermind truly is and activate his NG code to go out like the badass he really is.

I have said it before and I will say it once again: Ultimate/SHSL Luck is the best talent to have. We see it again with the fire extinguisher and the fact that Makoto and Munakata just so happen to fall into the area Munakata was chasing Makoto and crew through in Episode 2, where there's solid walls on three sides and exactly 1 way out normally and that is through the door although why Munakata couldn't just use his super sword to burn through the door or throw Makoto through the door thus "Makoto" opens the door, but whatevs. All the careful planning in the world or one of the craziest weapons in this series not counting the Ultimate Weapon from DR2 Chapter 4, of course, doesn't mean a damn if you end up trapped by luck.

Someone did die in EP1, though, so either Chisa really is dead or the extra player is her fake corpse. Juzo has been confirmed dead and Ruruka is definitely not surviving that, so Kirigiri is most likely alive.

I saw that immediately then saw who was still alive and thought hmmm maybe they didn't account for ruruka and kyoko's deaths putting it to 4 at the start of the next episode? Yes, another possibility is indeed Juzo or Kyoko are still alive despite what it looked like before. I'D RATHER HAVE MY BAE THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Juzo is cool but Bae comes first. :)

For amanojaku, how is Juzo confirmed dead? I'm curious if I missed it somehow.

I don't remember the specifics, but I think that it was confirmed on that recent voice actor interview. Also, he was stabbed right in the spine, there's no way he's going to contribute to the story now.

Eh, I've seen characters survive worse. Plus this show isn't entirely logical. Either way one of them is alive and we're gonna find out next week for sure. A lot of people are speculating he's alive though which is really surprising considering how hated he was lol. I kinda want to be trolled and have Bandai brought back tbh. He reminded me of a fat Luffy.

Given how he's in the opening, it's entirely possible the count could also be including Hagakure (even though he's not in the game itself, and it is a long shot), in which case it's one or the other (This would additionally explain the initial counter pointing to 16, when the game only has 15 players). Personally, I feel that it is that the "Murders" can be but are not limited to suicides because (IMO) Tengan's message doesn't really make sense without it (how could "Chisa" have attacked anyone but herself, assuming you associate falling to despair with attacking someone, and Makoto's still alive). At this point, I'm also thinking Chisa's also the mastermind, since it would explain the count. Unrelated aside, I'm surprised at how far Munakata managed to get when he couldn't open doors. Also, hooray for Asahina finding something out XD

Yeah you go Asahina! I hope next episode we'll get to see Izuru smash a bunch of boats and Byakuya bust everyone out. Although I too, am a bit disheartened to think that Chisa probably faked her death. Was hoping for something more plot twisty than what basically happened in DR1. It's probably not as simple as that though, and all of your speculations sound highly probable to me.

Also I didn't realize Naegi had Ultimate Luck as well. Must've been something I skipped over in DR1. But that fire extinguisher was hella funny.

yep he has regular luck where hope comes into play. But if chisa faked her death I would be unoriginal as junko did it already. I assume something different like brainwashing gas from the bracelets for the killer except the victims who are awake at the time

Both Naegi and Komaeda have good luck as their talent, but while Komaeda's luck is monkey's paw-ish in that it's almost supernatural and incredible at granting short-term results, but ultimately backfires on him and everyone involved (Getting caught in a plane hijacking and being saved by a meteorite, getting his whole family killed except him, and Zetsubou-hen episode 4), Naegi's luck is much more mundane and terrible at first but excellent later on (the first case of the original game, in which his bathroom door being misaligned proves his innocence later on, and Mirai-hen episode 10).

no monica was the robot player but she was already dead. Then monica didn't want to be involved anymore so she left for space. The mastermind is the sixth one alive in the game. I am very certain that its either chisa or someone on jabberwocky participating.

As much as I personally don't want it to be that Chisa faked her death, I will point out that on the Funimation website for the show, the right hand graphic shows exactly six people in it: Makoto, Ryota, Asahina, Munakata, Hagakure, and Chisa. There's no way that is a coincidence. The first five of those are most certainly alive, but Chisa is the odd woman out. If I had to guess, however, I would say that this is one of the series designers' ploys to throw us off the trail, like The Impostor posing as Byakuya in DR2.

...Did you not read what I said? The counter is counting people who are still alive. Not people participating, people who were in the game and are still alive. The robot wasn't alive to begin with so its "death" in the game doesn't count. While Monaca was not actually in the building or anywhere near it, she was still indirectly participating and actually fought some people. And she is still alive. It doesn't mater if she quit and went to space, the fact that she's alive is what matters here.

Count the characters in the killing game who are still alive. Makoto, Asahina, Ryota, Munakata and the mastermind. That's 5 people. That's why I'm saying Monaca might technically be the 6th person still alive(watch the OP for episode 10, it clearly says 6 despite the fact that Juzo, Kyoko, Ruruka, and mecha Gekkogahara were all killed in the 9th episode, which had the OP say "9 people alive" in the beginning) and it most likely isn't some reveal that "Oh wait, X character is actually alive! Hooray/boo(if it's Ruruka)!".

Also, why are you still suspecting the Remnants of Despair on Jabberwock Island? Didn't I already point out how it couldn't be one of them before? While I have no clue what's going on at Jabberwock island, I'm sure there's no way they could've been involved in the killing game. Because the mastermind knew where the Future Foundation building was(the island was outright stated to not be on any maps in the first episode), attacked Future Foundations' computer network from the inside, built an underground floor under the Future Foundation building, made the underground floor look very much like a part of the actual Future Foundation building(meaning they had to have either had access to a map of the building, or been very familiar with the layout, both of which point towards the mastermind being in Future Foundation), and did all this without drawing attention to themselves. This is basically impossible for someone who isn't a high ranking member of the Future Foundation. Like Chisa.

RIP Perfect Cinnamon Roll Chiaki, you were too pure for this world. I mean, I knew this was coming, but that just hurt >.<

...Man, now I just want a full Slice of Life anime which uses the School Life stuff. Might just watch Junko's punishment from DR1 for catharsis.

And RIP Juzo's unrequited love, considering how he dies..

just damn hs why of all ways to kill someone they di that gruesome way to chiaki, just why? The feels man im just sad right now. aside from my depression now atleast I know why Juzo was so dedicated to munakata in the future arc. Dude loved him. Gotta respect him still, he put his feelings aside because he knew his mission and the munakata loved chisa. Must of been sad to not know why his love killed him

The fact that Juzo was in love with Munakata got spoiled to me before I saw the episode but then I watched it and holy shit I never expected Chiaki's death to be so FUCKING BRUTAL I'M SO UPSET RIGHT NOW

I don't think she's dead yet because her eyes are still watching Izuru holding the hairclip after the credits but yeah I know. Junko really wanted her to suffer for maximum despair for the rest of her class. I really like Chiaki so that's not unacceptable to me. :( I have to commend the fact Chiaki if she's fully dead now did not die easily being she kept being alive despite multiple stab wounds and constantly bleeding out. CHIAKI NOOOOOO! First my BAE now you who I grew to like a lot through this and the DR2 game (not at first lol)

I wonder who the most popular character of DR is out of all of them. I'm sure Chiaki is close to the top for the majority for sure. :)

RIP Juzo who never got to reveal his feelings and died by his crush's hand in the future. What a sad tale.

It doesn't matter at this point. This was being watched by Junko. Chiaki broke into Izuru to find Hajime. But by breaking into him, Hajime was forced into despair, and as a result, Izuru was too. That's what Junko wanted. She got all remaining 15 members of the 77th class, and Izuru too.

I am very happy that we have our first confirmed gay character in the series though. And what's even better is that he doesn't fit the stereotype in the slightest. A shame his love won't work out.
