"Just don't snap at me like that again." She closed her eyes once again and inhaled deeply, trying to relax herself again. This was shaping up to be a true trial, but she refused to let one day slow her down. They had much further to go, after all.

Luka looked at the girl, her eyes closed as she sat down. Perhaps she had chosen to continue praying. Eh, wouldn't hurt to stay and do the same, maybe. Luka sat himself back down, his back to a tree. Nothing to do until we go back, anyway. Luka closed his eyes, trying to remember the words to a prayer. This is gonna be a long journey.

Chapter 1: The Embers of Change

Year 1020, 20th of Last Bloom

After a successful operation, the members who raided the warehouse were celebrated and congratulated. The group earned themselves a few week's rest. They spent these days in town, holding out in Laguna Bay as usual doing their best not to draw too much attention. After the attack on the jailhouse, soldier movements seemed non existent and oddly enough Laguna Bay and it's surroundings seemed peaceful.

On the 20th, this group was to have another mission. Half a day's ride away from Laguna Bay, there are few villages and houses scattered around the country side. Hidden away near a river the group and a few other rebels plotted the next plan.

A thin looking man rushed to the group as they were laying about, a young boy who was nicknamed "Dash" for his remarkable speed. He mostly acted as the scout for the group. "They are holding up tight just like you said boss. About three dozens of them, all armored and weaponed up."

Dash spoke to a large man. Large might be an understatement, he was more like huge. Standing a good 2 meters tall, he towered over the thin and short boy. "After the beatin' these youngsters gave them I'm not surpirsed ha ha!" The man laughed heartily. You've come to know him for this. Samwell "Sea Bane", a known pirate and vagabond of the seas; and the leader behind the Misguided Children. He'd taken up his axe to defend the country in his own way; by striking away at soldiers and saving people. "Alright, I'll lead the charge. I'll take my crew and a few of the newbies." Sea Bane looked directly are your group now. "All of you are to run support on this mission. None o' us are sure if the King has caught whiff of us but there sure are a lot of soldiers about today. If reinforcements come; take them out you hear? If we get caught with our breaches down we'll be as good as shark food!" He let out another laugh as he finished his sentence.

"So good luck, and watch ou' backs." Samwell gave a thumbs up with a cocky grin in his face. He picked up a huge axe that was laying against a tree and slung it over his shoulder. He and his men walked off to their mission, trusting full well in your capabilities.

Several minutes go by. The sounds of battle start being heard far away, surely Samwell and the others fighting hard against the Dragao soldiers. Otherwise there is a soothing silence, not a soul in sight. Until once again, Dash breaks through the tree line, panting after running so much. "You're needed, there are soldiers further down the river. I think they are chasing someone... Just follow me." He pointed to the direction opposite to where Samwell and the others were fighting. The group follows after Dash; unsure of what's to come next.

They come right behind a large group of soldiers, armed and ready to fight. They all surround three individuals; an armored man, a robed man and a girl mounted on a Pegasus. Their backs are against the river, and with the soldier's blockade they have no clear path to run. The soldiers and the three trapped strangers started each other down, neither of them moving.

"Saffron, get Feri on your pegasus. Fly over the river and don't look back." Said the armored man with a deep growling voice.

"I don't think that's wise Keagan." The robed man stepped forward, pulling a tome from a leather pack. "If you are going to stay behind you won't buy much time by yourself. Lady Saffron go alone; hurry to the city."

"No!" The girl was disgusted with the idea. "I won't leave either of you behind!"

"What's the point if you just die here? We came so far so that you could make it here. Go!" The armored man barked. The girl looked back for a few seconds considering her options. She took a deep breath, and pulled on the reins of her pegasus bringing it into flight.

"I will not run. If you two die here, then I refuse to go on." Before either of them could protest the girl had a spear in hand and a buckler on her other arm. "A riverside grave doesn't seem like a bad place to rest."

The soldiers took the sign of the girl flying up into the sky as aggression. Several cavaliers rode up; on the center of their formation a sword wielding woman shouted out. "Kill the girl; she will not make it back alive. Capture the other two, they are too be executed in the capital."

A soldier bow wielding soldier rides up to her and reports; "Commander Maris, there are armed civilians to our rear. Orders?"

The leader looks surprised but quickly brushes that expression of her face. "If they attack, kill them. Do not let anyone interfere with our orders. MOVE OUT!"

Your group's orders were to eliminate any Dragao soldier activity;

WIN CONDITION: Defeat the boss!

LOSS CONDITION: Saffron dies!

After surveying the area, the 3 individuals were further to the back. Trying to reach them may take a while, but if we take down their boss, that may be enough. Given the new battlefield, Ecquis decided to use Morgan as his mount. He felt like she could use the warm-up, and its been a while since he had brought her out.

"So then, our objective is to help out those three eh? Well Morgan, lets deal with these brutes first," he states. Morgan roars in agreement, her green wings spreading out before they move on to their target.

Kicking off the dirt, Ecquis' wyvern flies forward charging at the Mercenary. "Halt; you are interfering with the order's of the King!" Just as he finishes saying that Ecquis has already began attacking.

Not a moments respite. Better that way, one didn't get rusty. Meredith this time didn't see time to wait, she wanted to get in the thick to tie up the enemy as soon as possible. It wasn't her typical style so, this probably wouldn't go amazingly but, she figured it better than waiting for the rest of her force to mobilize. "I'm going in, form up around me when you get the chance!"

With that the red haired woman bolted towards the other unengaged mercenary, brandishing her spear, ready to give him a swift blow.

The fields were teeming with enemies, and the slightest misstep could result in being overwhelmed. Rosalvya moved to protect Ecquis' flank. "I'm here with you," she said with reassurance.

It would seem that enemies were not all that were on the battlefield. Unable to discern the figures by the riverbank, Rosalvya focused on the opponents ahead of her.

Meredith gives no quarter; as she charges her lance pierce through the soldier. It's end comes out of the other side. The lance comes out of the mercenary cleanly. The swordsman drops his weapon, it's perfect condition gleaming in the sun light.

A fever pitch resounded through the area as Meredith's spear pierced metal. A tone that could would send shivers down the spine of any solider, the tone that said your armour failed it's precious job. If it wasn't enough... Next came the next most crippling sound on the battlefield, the sound of crunching bone. The cracking of ribs and other important structural bones. They shattered and gave way under the mighty thrust, dust before the iron capped weapon. A fountain of red released as a response. The wonderful reward of a swift kill. It splashed her face lightly and clung to her armour. The paint of a warrior's triumph. A strange satisfaction one got from being covered in the blood of their foes. Perhaps, she shouldn't admit that... but it felt good in the moment. She reveled in it for but a second, the quick but bitter end. She hoped it hadn't hurt too much. However, remorse for one's foes was best saved for off the battlefield. She would adhere to that. Meredith kicked the corpse clinging to her spear. It fell to the ground, landing with a wet dull thud. Nothing but a lifeless marionette with cut strings.

"WHO'S NEXT?!" Meredith shouted, daring the rest of the soldiers to come after her. She slammed her Lance across the breastplate of her armour with a crashing force to met the ferocity of her wail. She stood staring down the forces arrayed in front of her. What would they do after such as display? She hoped piss their drawers. Though she hoped they were more disciplined than that. It'd not be much fun later on if they were that weak willed.

Luka looked away from the front lines, trying to stifle a laugh from watching Ecquis miss the enemy. Oh gosh, that killed me! Looking back, he caught a glimpse of red liquid, and Meredith's spear through a Mercenary. Well, be glad someone's picking up his pace.

Rushing towards the front lines, Luka took a position behind the line of allies. Looking around, he made sure that no one was close enough to attack him. With a cheer, Luka grabbed the attention of the Soldier and the Rider. "Once more, you both!" I bet that swordsman wants a fight.

Move to Y4 and dances for Ecquis and Meredith

"I suppose I should thank you," he replied to Luka, Looking besides him, he noticed that Rosa had come to support him. Confident that he had support, he turned his attention back to the mercenary.

"You seem to have some sharp reflexes. Think you can manage it a second time?" Ecquis taunts before striking yet again.

"Nice work, but now I'll show you all what the Goddess's chosen champion can do! Haa- tah!" She took a few steps forward, spun an arrow about in her off hand, then nocked, drew, and fired in one smooth motion.

"You feeling okay Luka? You look... Different. Na... It's probably just the battle getting to me." Meredith said as she watched the dancer perform. She was glad for it, it meant she could continue on the momentum she already had. She rushed forward hoping to help end the the miserable life that was the next target.

"Aim true." she said addressing the archer before she loosed her arrow. "And, stay behind me. I'll keep you from harm." she said now addressing both Hoshiko and Luka. She dropped back after tasting blood to cover her allies. Advancing now with this many enemy troops was suicide. It was the best course of action to protect the backline rather than over commit to the offensive. Even if she was still on a rush from that first blow.

"I trained as a soldier for nearly 5 years and I don't think I have EVER seen anything as BLOODY BRILLIANT as that!" Terrin exclaimed with excitement as he watched Meredith's display of force, running up to a new position behind the defensive wall his allies seemed to be forming. "Almost makes a guy regret the day he eschewed his lance to pick up a tome." The mage grinned as he spoke, rather loudly, to himself, before pulling out his tome so he could be ready to jump into the fray at a moment's notice.

"Three stragglers, with an entire force chasing them down like dogs." Maya said, gripping the cold wood of her staff. "Why am I not surprised?" She was curious though, just what had the strangers done to elicit this sort of response? An entire unit for so few seemed overkill... then again, alot of the things the King's men did these days seemed overkill.

"Oh well...guess this can't be helped" she sighed, taking vantage of her own allies for a moment. A few of them had been scratched a little thus far, but none quite enough to warrant immediate attention; Those three pressing the line though, they'd likely get battered enough before long. Best to take the opportunity to get closer and lie low for when she was truly needed.

Klaren wiggles his way onto the battlefield, right next to Luka, glad that they'd managed to get into trouble again so soon~ Meredith did a number on that Merc too. The squishing of his internal organs as the lance passed through his torso sounded painfulliciously fantastic~

"Hi, Lou~ What a happy day today!"

Moving to Y5 (PROVOKEPROVOKEPROVOKE)

Surveying the battlefield, Luka saw the Monk taking position nearby. While a simple greeting, Luka's smile shook a bit from hearing it. Don't call me Lou, you weird Monk. Regaining his composure, he returned the greeting back to him.

"It is a beautiful day, Klarenfilia. Nice to see you cheery as ever."

Klaren smiled and clapped his hands happily in response.

"Mm, I'm glad you agree!" Klaren began cheerfully. "But don't worry, Lou. You can call me Klaren~ We're all friends here."

Some of the soldiers were awestruck by the show of power the Misguided Children showed. The commander had to step in.

"Soldiers of Dragao, do not be scared by these countrymen. Focus on your orders; take down our marks and then we will bring the King's Justice down on these rebels." She pointed her sword forward. "Charge! The Dragon King guides our blades!" In response all of the soldiers repeated the war cry, and started their attack.

The Cavalier, confident in his skills runs forward with his spear and stabs at the flying pegasus, slashing the rider's leg. In a bit of a clumsy fashion the girl on the pegasus manages to circle around the cavalier and hit him with her spear.

Another cavalier comes charging forward, slashing the unsuspecting mage with his sword. The mage opens his tome, quickly reminding himself of the necessary incantations. Soon enough, the wind around the cavalier seems to come alive and starts cutting at the man's armor.

After watching his fellow soldiers hit their attacks, the cavalier charges forward confident as the others. However, as he strikes Keagan perfectly blocks the attack with his shield. He grunts in amusement, and brings his axe down on the Cavalier, striking a hard blow almost knocking the cavalier off his horse.

"Saffron this a battlefield, there is no time to be distracted" The armored knight warns her.

"Keagan there are people on the other side of that tree line. They are fighting the soldiers... We're saved!" The girl closes here eyes and opens them moments later with renewed determination. "Keagan, Feri. We do not die today. We just need to hold out we will live another day."

Having dealt with the first Mercenary, the rest of the enemy forces started mobilizing. The fighter before him had tried to fight him, but his speed on the wyvern outpaced him slightly. One hit would be enough to finish things, provided he could land it. Looking past, he noticed that the 3 strangers have managed to deal with some of the opposition on their side. That meant that his group could deal with this lot.

"Alright Morgan, time for another go," he tells her before getting ready to strike. However, he does decide to pose a question to this fighter just before.

"So then mister, care to tell us why you're chasing those three?"

"I can only do so much here..." The decision she was about to make weighed heavily on the young priestess...well, it wasn't a matter of choice, in the end; her path to Eqcuis was blocked at the momen, and Klaren had gotten himself into an even worse spot... provoking two soldiers at once, not exactly what she would've called the smartest of decisions...but foolish as he was, she wasn't about to let him die.

Equis seemed ready and raring to go again anyway, and he had the advantage of armor and flight...the Rider would just have to tough it out for now...hopefully his confidence wouldn't prove as foolhardy as Klaren's, and that wyvern mount would live up to it's kind's reputation.

"I'm sorry about this..." She whispered, staff in hand as she instead turned her path towards the weird monk instead "You have to be more careful, Klaren! Don't waste your life just to draw their attention..."

"Klarenfilia, you're quite the strange one. It seems as if weapons are just drawn to you. Perhaps I should thank you, but... Don't flatter yourself. You're reckless... might just be what I need right now though." Meredith said gritting her teeth. She wasn't much fond of the Monk, but she had to admit, at least to herself, he was useful to have around. Something about the man just drew all attention. She was almost certain it'd get him killed one of these days. Nearly 100% certain. Some curse to bear. Though she saw how he acted, he enjoyed the pain. Perhaps, it was no curse. It was probably a blessing to him. However she had a job to do, and didn't have time to focus on this particular thought at the moment.

"Ecquis, you better help me hold the line. I'm counting on you. May that spear land true. Morgan, you make sure he keeps hitting. " she addressed the Wyvern Rider who was next to her. Felt strange fighting rank and file with a spear wielder who wasn't on her level this time, but it'd work out. She knew of it. It was a pretty sad line, just two, but she rather have something than just be on her own in this. "HAVE AT THEE!!!" she shouted bearing down on one of the soldiers. that attacked Klaren.
