Same with Saffron or Anna.” Though, if you do mess up, I don’t know how to help you there. With that short remark, Luka ran off towards his allies. “Rosalyva, why don’t you hang back a bit? Take a Vulnerary and stay behind me.” Or you can stay in range of that Pegasus Knight and watch what happens. If you think that’s a good idea, go ahead! It was always one of the stranger things in this world. She wondered if even they knew. Wasn't really the time though. She took a deep breath. And looked straight forward at the Pegasus knight straight down the way. "You!" she said pointing with her Javelin. She ran forward, getting a running start for her javelin toss. He was starting to feel like the weak link of the group, but now was not the time for doubts. Now was the time to rejoice in the competence the allies of this cause he believed in so much. As he moved beside one of the fellow mages of the group, he raised his eyebrows at her. "Is that how they teach mages to fight in Dragao, or did you come up with the style yourself?" Most of the strike was guarded by the soldier's armor, as he only grunted in retaliation. His spear came swinging around, dealing to her a devastating blow. Once again, she was unable to dodge her opponent's attacks. The soldier was preparing to strike again, winding his lance for another attack, when the world seemed to slow down before her eyes. In this moment, her wound no longer ached, the enemy's moment became transparent, and it was time for her to strike back. Gracefully sidestepping the lance, she winded her sword arm back, and slashed at the gap in the soldier's neck. His forward momentum carried him with his lance, past her, and tumbling into the ground. Rosalvya gasped, as she was thrown back into real time. It happened again. But with time coming back normal, so did her pain. ow ow ow ow ow. She could hear Luka tell her to patch herself up, and that wasn't such a bad idea. Thanks to Luka's dance, she was able to make her way beside the dancer. "Thanks, Luka. I'll do just that." "My style of burning is self-taught. It involves layering the fire multiple times and concentrating the flame such that it gains actual volume. That is, I could hit you with it and you would feel an impact. It wouldn't feel as painful as an impact from a normal weapon, but then the burning starts. It's also easier to aim since it's not an abstract idea. That said, I didn't deliberately create this style. It was a side-effect of me trying to find ways to make my fire cuter. Like so." As the ball continued circling around her, it morphed and changed, parts of it forming into legs, then a tail, then a head. Finally, Serene was no longer being circled by a fireball. In its place was a fiery squirrel that excitedly ran rings around her. She laughed and tickled the fiery creature under the chin with her armored hand, then let it dissipate into nothingness. "I don't know if you can do it with thunder, though. Thunder's form is a lot more volatile than fire's. It's definitely possible to gather lines of thunder together to make simple weapon shapes, but I haven't had success with anything more complex." Still though, Ecquis reasoned that this situation could be handled between the four of them. "Maya, if I recall, didn't you get some form of sleeping staff recently? Already, the green sphere burned with ominous light beneath her robes. There was disdain on her face though, as she focused, reaching out a hand. It was hard to tell whether she spoke to Klaren or simply out of idle thought. "It's been a long while since I used one of these. They're far more volatile than other Orbs; managing to get the energy under enough control to actually hit what you want once it's released is like herding alley cats... in heat." A flash and a unearthly, ringing roar. That was all there was as tendrils of shimmering green snaked down the length of her arm and into her palm, condensing into a rough little sphere resembling a mass of clouded wisps that immediately fired itself towards the woods, leaving a trail of shining mist in it's wake... It was important to steady herself throughout the battle. If she retired so early in the fight, she would only become a liability to the others. Meredith had forced the Pegasus Rider back, only to have her wounds treated by their Troubadour. Their healer would pose to be a problem if they didn't finish off the enemy properly. Being so far away, they could only hope to press them into a corner. All right, she thought, as she slapped her hands to her face to refocus herself. Time to meet up with the others. She made to move in that direction, but stopped herself. It would not be wise to split up from the main group, not at this point in time. Far better to stick close to Sapphire. She ran up to the group a bit to her left and tapped Meredith on the shoulder, the metal of her gauntlet ringing out as it struck Meredith's armor. Moves to L4 "Ho there, Rampart. That's some majorly fiery bloodlust you're emitting. Not that I can't understand the feeling." She snapped her fingers, and the fire rabbit reappeared midair, tilting its head in an adorable gesture of questioning. Serene patted the flame's head, causing it to nuzzle against her gauntleted hand. "Been a while since I've been able to let loose and burn free." Klaren diverted his gaze from Equis. However, his eyes fell on another person standing close right now-Mayanna. The monk froze. He wasn't ready to face her...or well, she didn't want to face her yet. Especially not after the dinner accident. She of all people should never find out about that. But Equis was definitely gonna tell her. Aww...why do wyverns have such great sense of smell... Slowly, Klaren wiggled around the trees and away from Mayanna. *wiggle-waggle-struggle* Everything was full of pegasi, though...sure, they had lances on them, but they still drained his magic...and he couldn't quite combat them... It was amazing really, the damn thing had hit spot on but failed to do actually knock the fool out... usually how it played it was one of only two ways: The shot hit and did as it was supposed to, or the thing went wide or zigzagged or...something ridiculous mid flight, as if possessed of a will of it's own, and missed the mark entirely. With the latter of those two being the most common ending... this though? This was like being mocked by fate... "I'll never understand how papa always put up with these bedamned affliction gems and their fickle nature...it's simpler and less frustrating to just stand back and let the others deal with the opposition while you keep them intact." "Look, Eqcuis," She called to the rider in the distance, her tone rather blunt "you might as well just come and kill the poor bastard; even if the spell had done it's damn job, he probably would've still ended up dead in the end." She kept her one eye on that damn Pegasus Knight. Runnin' away, coward. She noticed that Serene referred to her as Rampart rather than her name. "But... nicknames are my thiiiiiiiing." she thought to herself. "Well, maybe she does it for the same reason I do. Still my thing thouuugh... well it's good at least I suppose." "Rampart? Huh... I like it~" Meredith smiled, with her eyes at least. Her face remained mostly serious cause battle could break out at anytimem but she figured her opponents were going to wait it out. "So, while I smolder a bit here... we need to approach this... controlled. Cause, I could run in there and huck a spear at the COWAAAAAARD over there. But, I'd put myself in an awful position there. Cause those fighters probably think we can't see them in those woods but I can, would definitely be able to reach me. So I can't just go in. I could approach the fighter and huck one at that guy in the woods, definitely puts me in less of a bad position... I dunno, what do you think Firecracker?" Still though, with Hoshiko having taken down the pegasus knight and Klaren already preparing against this fighter, things would work themselves out anyhow. Still though, the fact that the soldiers weren't actively going for them did strike him as odd, but for now he had other matters to attend to. "Come now Ziona, let's not keep everyone else waiting," Ecquis said before flying off towards the fighter. At present the little man in the forest poses no threat, and leaving Saffron alone might not be the hottest idea, tactically speaking." The incorporeal animal changed into a fiery puppy and began running circles around Serene, Saffron, Anna and Meredith. Serene glanced at the enemy line and frowned. "As much as it pains me to say it, our primary objective should be to blaze a path to the troubadour. Taking out the medical support is the most basic aspect of strategy, after all. It's a bit dangerous, but if we can get Dash to run distraction, we should be able to thin out the protection around her. Your call, Rampart." Raindrop Valkyrie Posted October 21, 2016 Share Posted October 21, 2016 Meredith got a bit distracted by the small pup running around her feet. Serene's mastery over fire was... quite something. Meredith had never really seen anyone do such things with flames before, or really ever with any magic. It was nearly mesmerizing. She'd have reached out to pet the small creature if she didn't know it was made of pure flames. Meredith definitely wasn't fond of fire in the same way Serene was. She actually had been pretty afraid of it as a child, not for any particular reason that she could recall. Having been hit with a few times in her soldiering career however she certainly got over that fear if it still lingered. She still wasn't that fond of burns. It hurt like crazy to have to keep them. She had a few on her after that fateful day. She touched her stomach, out of instinct moreso than anything else. Thinking of this made the burn there ache dully with pain. It was something she could probably easily have had repaired with the healing magic that day so long ago but... it was her reminder of what she had done that day. It wasn't fair to that man if she erased what he tried to do with his life... erased what was the result of her own failing. It was her reminder as to why she was fighting against the army she had once served. She held her hand there on her armour for awhile. Just remembering. She was still aware where she was however, so she didn't totally space out. However she had barely noticed what Serene had said until the utterance of Rampart snapped her back. She tried to be elegant about it, but... it was probably clear by how suddenly she jerked her head back to look at the fire mage. "I suppose you're right Firecracker." she said, without as much of her usual flare. "I apologize, I was a bit... taken aback by what you can do with flame yet again. You have quite the talent with it, the spirits must be extremely trustin' of ya, or just take a natural shinin'." Meredith used it as an excuse, just to put some reasoning on to why she was acting a bit strange. She knew she let another tell slip so, she tried to cover it up with that statement. It was at least something she was thinking as well, so it wasn't like she was entirely lying... though she still felt bad about it for some reason. She didn't like being dishonest, even if it was only in part. Just, now wasn't really the time. Hopefully Serene wouldn't question it too much and take it at face value. "I'm going to move up and position myself better. If the enemy charges us, they probably head for Saffron, at least that archer they have, so I'll need to move to intercept, I'll need another of us to do so as well. Dash! When it comes time you definitely make a distraction for that fighter if he comes out of the woods! Saffron, be mindful of the bow! Otherwise, do as you will! The rest of you MOVE UP! We got work to do! We need to thin their numbers or at least spread their forces so that we can take a crack at that archer and healer!" she turned back to Serene now. "I appreciate it Firecracker~. I'm not so hot at the field commander stuff. Tactics were never my strong suit. I'm a soldier first, commander... probably a distant 5th. I fight well, but my leading skills in tactics... barely embers. Hopefully I improve somewhat, but it seems at the very least our dancer has a head for them. It's the strangest thing." she smiled before setting off, she didn't move far, she was only going just forward enough to intercept in case the enemy moved forward. Move to O5. Terrin shrugged a bit, the enemies were thinning out already, but there were still enough to be wary. He walked over and took up a new position near Anna and Dash. "Miss Anna. Dash." He said with a polite nod as he surveyed the surroundings from his new position, curious to see what Meredith was planning for them, having not yet noticed the imminent danger that the princess was in. I liked my time of mindlessly letting them come to us with their idiot tactics, though. Luka’s eyes went towards Saffron’s position. Looking eastward, Luka also saw a Troubadour holding a bow, as well as two Pegasus Riders. Luka let out a sigh as he realized the very few options he had to help them. As much as it was against his better judgment, it was certainly their best option. “Dash, you better take a Vulnerary from Serene, because someone’s gonna need one. Anna, attack the Fighter if they don't move.” With that remark, Luka dashed past the wall of allies and stood where enemies can see him. No weapon, just his own feet to protect him. It was her order that placed them in the current situation so she wasn't about to let Saffron take the blame for. "I'll admit, tactics aren't my strong suit, I should probably leave it to you but, eh... what kind of commander doesn't at least try to command? Fightin' is more natural for me, but sometimes you gotta do things other than that on the battlefield." In her old unit she didn't really need to, she was just rank and file. She never really learned the ropes of command and she had never really concerned herself with it. Technically, there wasn't much of a command structure in this unit either. Meredith preferred it that way, she always hated the old drag of ranks. It was such an outdated concept, though she guessed it was needed in groups of that size to keep them somewhat orderly. Still in a unit like this, but a handful of people it wasn't overly needed. Yet, she always felt like she should be more responsible for those she took under her wing. It was strange... she had lost her entire unit before, and now she was building one. Life ended up in some strange places. "On that note, this is also, a battlefield despite the momentary pause. So, how about we keep that anger pointed towards our foe. Cause... man I'd like to stab that coward that ran from me sooooooo bad right now. So, I'll do the stabbin' you do the gabbin'. As the rider falls to the ground Saffron looks at her spear confused. She quickly regain her thoughts and focuses on the battle once more. She muttered as she watched the axemen fall, mildly satisfied that regardless of her... mishap with the spell, at least something had gotten done. She gave one last glance to Ecquis "Now... why don't you take care of that cheeky little rider too, Ecquis? Show her what happens when you bring a pegasus to fight a wyvern?" With that said, she was by hoshiko's side before the man could even answer, the azure orb atop her staff beginning to glow, as was traditional as the energy began to pour out and flood through the girl's wounds. Just as with when she'd healed her in the last battle though, something felt... off about it. The archer could feel a strange...not malice, nor twisted joy, but rather... contentedness, almost like one might feel after watching a sworn nemesis finally get their comeuppance...
