"I don't see any reason why not..." She said, chuckling just a bit at the sight of Morgan's arrival. The old girl certainly had a penchant for tagging along after them, it seemed. By now, the lights and their myriad of sounds had gradually begun to die down, knowing their era of chaotic liberty to be coming to a close. The gem in Maya's hand lost it's brilliant radiance with equal speed, as she began calling them back, "Lead the way."

"Well dayum... this might throw a bit of a wrench into my threat earlier; at the rate these two are going, any descendants he has will probably end up being hers too... ah well, at least the schmuck's sincere, I guess. Definitely better than her ending up the slave of that Cloudfucking pig..."

"I... you think the issue is my pose?"

He asked, sceptically, before performing a halfhearted heroic pose and casting another bolt of thunder towards the tree, this one arced in the opposite direction to the previous, still hitting the ground a similar distance away. "If that tree was a madman on a wyvern, we would both be in serious trouble right now." The mage sighed, dejected.

"Anyway, as ta your question. It's a simple thing really. A silly thing. Perhaps one I'd get laughed at for. I wanted to be a hero. I wanted ta be something that mattered. I wanted to protect people, the downtrodden, those that couldn't stand up or themselves. I figured I could make a difference. I was a lot more naive then. Worst of all though... I got my wish. I became a hero. It wasn't what I wanted." she shifted back again, clearly was a bit weary from running at full speed with a passenger on board. "I might need to get out of this armour for a spell. It's not great for the respiration. We should continue this back in the the tent."

Serene nodded and led the way to the tent. Once they were safely in the tent, Serene began helping Meredith remove her armor. A soldier herself, she was no stranger to the discomforts that accompanied adequate protection. As she did, she found herself staring at Meredith's finely honed arms, her sinewy back, skin stretched taut against trained muscle. Meredith certainly had a heroic stature, that was certain. Deciding that it was rude to stare for too long, she coughed and turned her attention to Meredith's words.

"Wanted to be a hero, you say? I can't... quite say I completely understand. I've never felt the same. I find that one has plenty of things to worry about without worrying about others. Of course, I hardly qualify as a normal girl, so perhaps I'm the exception. Do all girls have these yearnings? To be a hero? That archer girl seems rather taken with the idea, at least."

"Very well then," Ecquis replies as he takes Maya onto the wyvern and begins to fly up. Not wanting to stray too far, he directs Morgan in a circular path around where the group had set up camp. "I always do enjoy a nice joyride. Gives me a nice space to think about things. How are you feeling right now Maya?"

Meredith tried with everything in her power to keep it hidden. It was rather easy with Serene being behind her mostly so she wouldn't get a good look at her abdomen before she could fling on something to cover it. She wasn't sure why she was... so defensive about this, why she was trying to keep it hidden. She never really felt ashamed of it before, but she couldn't recall ever being in a position where this mattered before. She placed her hand over it, barely able to feel it through the cloth. It was a rather large patch of tissue that was vaguely in the shape of a human hand. Perhaps, she just didn't want to have to explain it Serene. Or, anyone really. Especially not her. Not with it's origin. She felt... so vulnerable out of her armour. She always did... she didn't really like the feeling that much. It felt like a par of her, so being without it she felt... naked almost. However... she just tried to focus, rather than let these thoughts bother her.

"I don't think so Firecracker. Though I'd hardly say I was a normal girl. My parents weren't fond of the idea, but that's getting ahead of myself." Meredith laughed while exhaling a sigh. Not really out of frustration but more out of nostalgia. Those times certainly were a special kind of strange. "I can't really speak for her, but I can speak for myself. I was always just fascinated by the tales of heroes when I was younger. Their darin' deeds, that they fought for the those that couldn't. Something about that selflessness just... captured me. Perhaps, I've always be a bit too much of an idealist, too much of a dreamer. I don't know, but I do know that as a child I always wondered why so many of those tales were about men. Very few I found involved women. It didn't seem like many appeared in them, save for the Goddess. It never really felt fair to me. But, I always wanted to protect people. To live up to those tales. I guess I just always wanted to give young women someone to aspire to. Old Man Gerson didn't help much with that, the bastard." She smiled widely as she said that. The type when you fondly remember someone.

"He always said he wasn't much of a hero himself, always mentionin' that most of his career was spent in an era of peace. But, I don't think that battle is the only way one can be a hero. He gave me something to believe in. He taught me how to fight... mostly because I kept sneakin' away from home to bother him until he would." Meredith suddenly went bright red. "That's... a bit embarrassin' to admit actually."

"But, in short, I doubt it's common. I think I'm an exception, as with Hoshiko. At least if the way my parents reacted to this all was anything. But, they knew my stubbornness would win out in the end so they eventually supported it. Begrudgingly of course, but they did in the end. Gerson refused to even train me if I wasn't serious about it. If being a hero wasn't the most important thing to me, he would've never trained me. He said he only did because he believed the resolve in my eyes. That it was one he once had. I don't think that's something just anyone has. I don't think all girls... or even young boys... mean it when they want to be a hero. I was different. I did."

"I- um- okay. I'll try my best I suppose?" Rosalvya said hesitantly. She was no seamstress, but she would try to do her best. She figured she'd pay Anna a little visit later to see if she had some thread she could have to fulfill Klaren's request. She folded up Klaren's robe neatly, and rose up to move. "I'll try to start working on your robe tonight. I just have to see whether or not Anna has some golden thread I could have."

"And- oh- before I forget," she paused, as she carefully picked up the tome she had found in the previous battle and delicately handed it to Klaren. "I found this book in our previous battle, and wondered if it's still useable."

"Thank you Lily~" Klaren jumped up, only barely containing the urge to hug Rosalyva (really grateful for all the complexes, Mayanna). "I'll leave you to it, then~ But I'm totally open to helping out if I can somehow." He was ready to leave and be on his merry way once more when Rosalyva handed him a book-or wait, a tome.

A yellow tome. A Terrin kind of yellow tome.

"Oh my Goddess!" He exclaimed, taking the tome into his hands. He shook it, brought it up to his ear, heard nothing, opened it next to it and felt a little electricity zapping him, giggled and turned back to Rosalyva with a smile on his face. "It's totally useable, where did you pick this up? From the enemies? But I can't use it. This would fit Terrin much better than me, so maybe you should take it to him instead~" He handed the book over to Rosalyva again.

Hoshiko nodded matter-of-factly at the first question. At the comment following up the blast of lightning, she sighed and shook her head.

ZL7mt8W.png "Well of course you can't hit with a pose like that! It has no energy, no emotion, no THIRST for JUSTICE! All in all it's a terrible pose! I don't expect you to match mine - they are sent directly from the Goddess, after all - but I've seen you do better than that. You can't expect the spirits to give their best if you're not doing it yourself. Here, let me show you." She snatched the tome out of Terrin's hand and thought for a moment. Then, she struck a pose: left foot far forward, the hand with the tome held over the outstretched leg, right arm held in an arc forward and over her head with her fingers splayed out as if lightning was arcing between them, and her right foot supporting. "Try that." She handed the book back over and picked her bow back up.

"I'm not sure my pose is the problem but... Sure, I'll try." He said with a shrug, it could hardly make things work. He carefully mimicked Hoshiko's actions- albeit mirrored -right foot forward, left arm arced out, tome held by the leg, the works. A bolt of thunder shot straight out of his fingers. It seemed more focused as it approached the tree. In the end it still swerved to the side and hit the ground, but got far closer to its target than his past two attempts had. "Huh, that IS an improvement." He remarked, surprised as he stood back up straight, thinking for a moment. "You're onto something- I'm still not convinced it's posing, but something is displeasing the spirits. The problem certainly isn't my aim..." He muttered, trying to form a theory.

Night wind blowing through her air, arms around the Rider's chest to keep herself stable, the priestess stayed silent for a while. Flashes of Dash lying injured danced through her mind, and with them, the memories of how near she had come to losing control over the light. And with them, the memories of the ones who had caused that near disaster... and while one of them, admittedly the most immediate culprit, had already been dealt with, the merchant bitch still remained.

"Well, I'm glad the mess with Freyl is finally over. He meant... means well, but even before everything happened, he could get a little overprotective and tunnel visioned sometimes. Thank you, for that... I'm glad you got the hint to follow me, I don't know if I could've gone through confronting him on my own. but... there's still what happened today, with the Nohrs. I can't help but think, if Anna hadn't lost her damn temper and smash that man's brains out like some savage, perhaps that whole fiasco could've been avoided. Maybe dash wouldn't have needed my healing at all. It's all in the past though, I guess, not like anyone can change it now..."

"I just hope the damn vixen keeps herself in line from now on, hopefully Meredith or Saffron or... someone confronts her about it. We barely survived out there, thanks to her, next time I might well be reading last rites for someone, instead of just closing their wounds and leaving them to sleep it off..."

"No problem at all. I'll be around to help," Ecquis responds to her thanks at his arrival. Upon hearing her then speak about Anna, he decides to mention what he overheard earlier. "Well I can tell you now that Saffron is going to be having a talk with her later. She was none too pleased with how things went either. She decided to spare Anna from a public scolding, but a scolding is to come nonetheless," he informed her.

"Good." The sudden smile that blooms on her face is a bit... unsettling to say the least, but compared to the tangible malice she had been exuding earlier, so thick it would have probably choked a man to death on it's presence alone if she had really wanted to try, it was honestly like seeing a snarling lion demoted into a purring kitten. "Good, I'm glad. Makes me job easier in the end... not that I dislike what I do, at it's core, or anything like that, but..."

c7f91Qj.png

"Well, it's not exactly the most pleasant thing in the world, examining wound after wound, no matter how bad or extensive they are, trying to devise ways to properly close them. I mean... I can't complain, I literally asked Papa to teach me what he does, but... still, after a while... it... on second thought, nevermind. It's much easier to explain the feeling to another medic than a fighter...

Can I... ask you something though Eqcuis? I've noticed it for a while, but, after how you talked to Freyl after all you saw, like it was nothing at all... how'd you become like this? So...unshakable? Unflappable? Has your travelling really taken you that far, that you... just don't get surprised or react to anything anymore?"

ZL7mt8W.png "I think I know what it is. You're trying to inspire the spirits to fight on your side for the cause of justice but your own spirit is unconvinced! You need to set your soul alight with the fires of the goddess, forge your will into a weapon meant to strike down the evils of the world, or your aim will waver just as much as your heart does! Think of the vile villainy that exists in the world, and remember that you have the power to strike it down. Fill yourself with the righteous anger and the conviction to do what must be done! Terrin, you must fill your heart with the light of all that is good in the world and your desire to protect it! You must become a true hero of JUUUUUSTIIIIIIICE!"

It was probably fortunate that no one in the camp was trying to sleep at the moment.

Terrin just sighed and shook his head. "I don't think it's that easy, Hoshiko." He muttered, closing his eyes a briefly while the ringing in his ears from her shouting died out. He smiled at her once he opened his eyes again, however. "Although that does remind me of something my teacher once told me..." Terrin cleared his throat before doing an impression of what sounded like an old man.

"Terrin, m'boy! That skill won't get you anywhere without PASSION. Magic is built on it. On Love. On Rage. On Fear. But not on this bullshit indifference of yours." Terrin just laughed once he finished the impression, shaking his head. "I just wish it was that simple, however." He sighed, dejected, as he turned to face Hoshiko, his back to the tree that was the target of this training excercise. "If it was easy as just letting go of everything- My frustration at Ashley's refusal to even aknowledge me, or my resentment of how father treated Terra over me, or my fear of what Lindl has gotten up to after everything we saw with Ignexius... And that can't be anything good..."

As Terrin began his rant about people that Hoshiko had no knowledge whatsoever of, he thrust his hands down by his sides while getting worked up. Unbeknownst to the thunder mage, but entirely in view of the archer, a bolt of thunder shot out from his hand as he did so, heading straight for the tree, and striking with such precision that it hit the lance he had thrown in there previously, causing char marks to crackle out from the tip where said lance was embedded into the trunk.

Serene nodded and stretched out, reflecting on Meredith's words, taking off her own armor. As she did, she exposed her back, revealing an impressive array of scars. Most seemed to be left by bladed weapons - long and thin, crisscrossing and running over each other. Serene casually wiped herself down, drying her sweat, while she responded to Meredith.

"Dreams, huh... nostalgic memories... must be nice to have them."

"It's nice to have something to remember. My life wasn't that easy, never was. That trainin' was tough... difficult, and hard. Gerson wasn't an easy mentor. He wasn't some soft old man that went easy on me. But, I still remember it fondly. I just remember at the end of the day always going for a swim in the lake. He'd always hang around on the shore. Sometimes I'd be too tired, but, we'd always go there to end the day." Meredith looked at Serene again, not really being phased by her scars too much. After all, Meredith had plenty wounds form blades and other weapons herself, but... none of them meant something to her like that burn. They were just part of the job. But, that burn was something else.

"Water reminds me of that. I suppose the way you feel about fire I feel about water. I feel something... different when I'm in it. It feels strange not being within it having touched it within awhile. I suppose understand your draw, though I'm not fond of the fact yours can cause you harm. I... just worry about that, I don't want any harm to come of you of your own vilotion. I don't want people to get the wrong idea."

Serene turned away briefly, hiding her face while she changed into her spare set of identical armor. Unlikely.

"Ah, no worries there; I'll not get burned. I know my limits, and more importantly, I know fire's limits."

Serene clapped Meredith on the shoulder as she left the tent.

"Get some rest. You did a blazing good job."

Exiting the tent, she heard a high voice shouting from the direction of the forest, along with the sound of crackling thunder. Interest piqued, she turned and walked in the direction of the sound.

"Hit my target? What are you talking about?" He asked, looking over his shoulder. He quickly noticed the char marks in the tree around the lance. "...Huh. I really just...?" He asked with raised eyebrows, looking at Hoshiko for confirmation.

"I see. It was one of the more in-tact items that one of the enemies still had. Well, I'm glad that the book is still usable. I'll do as you suggested, and see if Terrin would be interested in it," she said, as she tucked Klaren's robe under her arm. "There is something that you could help me out with. Would you mind visiting Anna for me and see if she has a needle and the color of thread you're looking for? After that, you can find me and I'll get started."

Rosalvya smiled, as Klaren went off in the direction of the camp. He still had more energy than he knew how to deal with. But that wasn't such a bad thing. With tome and robe in hand, she went off in search of Terrin. Fortunately, that didn't seem to be that hard. He seemed to be practicing his lightning magic, given the flashes of lightning that occasionally pierced through the darkness. The noise was a little hard to ignore as well. As she approached closer, she could see Terrin and Hoshiko in the midst of a clearing. It seems like they were talking about something. In that moment, a mischievous grin made her way onto her face.

She donned Klaren's robe, and kept the tome in hand. With the hood up, she tried her to best to approach Hoshiko from behind as silently as possible, while signaling Terrin not to reveal her presence.

With her best Klaren impersonation,

"Pee-ka-boo!"

"Over here dear!" Anna calls out from near the cart, where she and Ian are watching over the now sleeping Cherry. Bread crumbs and half finished loafs of bread lay all around her and she looks satisfied as can be. "Just look at this, she nearly ate all our supplies and now she has the nerve to fall asleep on my cart..."

"Some brat that was stuck in Nohr cells and was freed and she tried to steal our and somehow that gives her the right to stay with us." Anna said with arms crossed across her chest. "But anyhow I'm already in a lot of trouble with our commander. What do you need dear?"
