"Oh...my..." She couldn't but take a startled step back or two at the descent of the second wrym, this one gleaming white like virgin snow against the morning sun. Oddly enough, her beauty seemed to surpass even Morgans... there was an almost mesmerizing quality, the stark white against the colored background of the world around her... like a blank canvas...

"uh..." She tore her eyes away from the second drake, already feeling herself beginning to space out. From all the books, she had thought wyverns rather rare, their riders even harder to find... let alone ones in the possession of more than one mount "She's a beauty as well, I must admit... like the flakes of the first snowfall in winter... um, Eqcuis, exactly...how many wyverns do you have? Just out of curiosity?"

"Oh? Counting the two you see here, I have 5 wyverns in total. I would call the rest down, but that may get a bit overwhelming," Ecquis answered. It was very rare for him to see anyone genuinely curious about his mounts. Only two other people ever expressed any sort of interest that Mayanna has shown. The rest...

"My...the place I once called home actually had a group of people who had wyverns that would be given off to various soldiers. Since those people were...my parents, I was able to be around them for a bit of time," Ecquis started before taking a pause. He never thought much about the place he called home. Granted, it has been quite some time since he had to leave, but still.

"Cynthia in particular was a strange case. Not too many people in that town were keen on albino wyverns. They tended to think of it more as a curse than anything else. Because of that nobody would ever take her. That just meant that I could get closer to her over the years but..." Ecquis paused again. He hadn't told this story to very many people, and his time in Dragao certainly didn't help matters much. It didn't help that this wasn't one of the best memories he had.

"Well, in the end, I managed to have Cynthia and the others as my personal mounts. Though the cost of that was a place to call home." Ecquis finally muttered.

"I'm with you, miss Merryberry!" Klaren seemed to suddenly pop out of nowhere behind Meredith as she had her big speechy thing. He tried to raised a hand up in the air but had to retort it back to his stomach as it churned. Hehe, he took quite the beating. And no healing. He'd have to go find miss Maya later and ask her to heal him~ For now though, he stayed there behind Meredith, smiling. He didn't seem fazed by Saffron's introduction as the princess. Instead, he put his arms on Meredith's shoulder pads. "Right, miss Merryberry~? One hell of a speech, if I may say so, tee hee~"

"I'm sorry... it must've been difficult for you, Eqcuis" She placed a hand on the rider's shoulder in gentle comfort, as her staff again hung by her side. Home... yes, she knew far too much that void... the hearth and safety that so many took for granted... only those forced to survive without ever truly understood it's real value; because most of them lived and died wishing they could reclaim what a place to call their own was supposed to feel like, at least once more before they left this world... few seldom got the opportunity. "How...how did you get by though, after... you left? I-If you don't mind me asking of course, I'm sorry to pry if not..."

The man's privacy was his own right in the issue, and if he didn't want to, she wouldn't push any further... but she was curious. Most children who were cast out or orphaned turned to rather dubious means to survive...means some of them might not be proud of, later on in life... but in the moment of survival, were the only real alternative to lying down and dying...

"I'm sure we can talk plenty about poses later." Terrin murmured to Hoshiko with a small smile, before turning to their new company and bowing. "My name is Terrin, it is a pleasure to meet all three of you." He said calmly, but furrowed his brow somewhat as he returned to full standing length and listened to Meredith's speech. "Well said, very well said. But alas, I cannot so easily dismiss Feri's pessimism here." He sighed, shaking his head.

"Fear or not, there are of course a very many people with no love for Saffron's uncle, that's why we're here. However there are also very few people that aren't put off by even the slightest mention of her father. Indeed, while I hope you don't take offense at this Saffron, even I have my reservations. Can I be certain you won't be a worse influence on Dragao than your uncle? Of course I can't." The mage folded his arms before continuing. "However, you have not given us any reason to mistrust you yet. And unless you do, I'm of a mind to consider this chance meeting of ours the best thing that could have happened. For the Misguided Children, for Dragao... For the entire land." With that, he simply nodded at the trio and offered his hand in their general direction for a shake, to see if any of the three would take him up on it.

That may have come off a bit sharp, I'm certainly hardly as good at rousing speeches as Meredith... I hope they got what I meant. Last thing I want is to piss off our potential greatest allies... He thought, but didn't let his nerves show through, that was one of the very basics a young noble in Caelum learnt, don't show weakness.

"Meredith..." Saffron's eyes begin to water, and she had to close them and open again to stop herself. "Everyone thank you. We might have only met, but I feel like I can trust all of you. And that is a feeling I need."

Feri is the one to meet Terin's handshake. "From my observations you are man of the magics like myself. Perhaps an intellectual as well? I can assure you; I have seen to Lady Saffron's education myself. She is versed in the history of our good Kingdom and it's surrounding lands, as well as all of the mathematics, language and scientific skills she will ever need. She has the knowledge for it, and surely the charisma. I do not know what kind of Queen she will be, but surely she will stop this war."

"It gives me much more confidence to hear you say that." Terrin smiled as he firmly shook Feri's hand, before turning to look over at Meredith, and then Saffron. "Perhaps I'm a few months too early then, but at this point, I don't think there's much else left for me to say. Long live the Queen." He announced stoutly, trying to capture at least some modicum of the raw inspiration which came from Meredith's earlier speech with his words.

"Well, one of the benefits to having a couple wyverns is that you can carry a lot of stuff with you. At least from the start anyhow. I had gathered up a few things before I was forced to leave, but there wasn't much time to. I was put on rather short notice really. Three days before my birthday actually." Ecquis answered back. His past didn't hold too much in the way of dark secrets. Some of it however was not an enjoyable one.

"Now that I think about it, in 3 days it will have been 9 years. Nine years since I had to leave. Hard to imagine how I managed that. The only thing around my home was the mountain border between Dragao and Yukihana. Dragao wasn't a good place for me to go, so I had to manage my way through to Yukihana. The set of supplies I brought only lasted a few months, but I had a small bit of knowledge of edible plants and hunting. Not enough to survive on, but enough to get me from town to town," he continued, petting Cynthia in the process. Thinking back, he didn't regret his decisions. His journey had taken him to many places, and he was able to learn quite a bit.

"If you're willing, what was your home like? Provided its a story you're willing to share as well." he asked Mayanna.

"That's terrible..." She commented at the mention of literally being kicked out...what the hell type of people were those of his hometown, to exile a child over something so seemingly trivial as the color of a dragon? Well... to be fair, there was probably a bit more to the circumstances than just that factor, but still... it was despicable nonetheless. And days before his... simply awful...all of them.

"Oh...um...home..." She shifted a bit on her feet, eyes turning to the ground. Right...home... she was torn. Eqcuis had been kind enough to share his own tale, but... there was nothing of home for her to recall except what she wanted only to forget.

But...fair was fair, she supposed...

88dOLAF.png

"Home...right... it was a port city, far on the southern shore, right near the border I think. It was a place originally founded by pirates who got tired of always being on the wrong side of the law, at least, that's how the story goes... they settled down there with whatever stolen goods they had left and eventually... it all built up from there." She stopped her idle stroking of Morgan, wandering off as she continued, gazing at the river far in the distance and clutching her staff. "It was called... Greyhelm, I think... or, something with Grey in the name. The founders didn't exactly turn completely lawful, you see, even after settling so... I guess they felt it fitting."

She stopped, debating whether to continue. She gave a sidelong glance to Eqcuis and his wyrms, pained reminiscence in her eyes...

ZL7mt8W.png Hoshiko bowed politely at the group after all the speeches were over, having cheered at Meredith's rousing speech. "If you'll excuse me, I have something important to tend to." With that, she walked off, starting the same routine she had after the previous battle - though lacking an axe wound, there was a bit more spring in her step. She headed for another stand of trees and settled down behind one, performing the familiar ritual of maintenance on her weapon. I suppose I'm going to have to get used to big groups like this, but for now I'd prefer the company of the Goddess and no one else. Once again, she crossed her legs, leaned back against the tree slightly, and closed her eyes, almost looking asleep.

Ecquis noticed the pained expression that Mayanna had after she told him about her home. Something must have happened to make her have this reaction. As if noticing this, Morgan rubs her head on Mayanna as an attempt to comfort her.

"Did something happen to your home? I understand if you don't want to say anything about it now but...I'll be here to listen if you ever want to talk with someone about it," Ecquis remarked. Ecquis wasn't entirely sure what may have happened, but he decided that he would listen to her, or at the very least respect her wishes if she declined to say anything.

Meredith placed her free hand onto Saffon's shoulder. She was still holding her spear so she couldn't really do both. "We're in this together now. Me and you." She looked back a bit nervously. "And all of them too I suppose heheh." She shifted her weight, She only just realized she was still covered in the stains of battle. She hoped it wasn't too awful. She wondered... moreso why she felt so... odd. She felt... so strange. She'd have never been the type to be doing this in her previous tours as a solider. Perhaps it was because here rank truly didn't matter that she felt that way, where as in her previous post... rank was something entirely necessary and disobeying the chain of order was a capital offense. In the Misguided Children... Meredith could just be herself. Perhaps, she was always a natural born leader, just held down by the weight of bureaucracy before. She laughed at the thought.

"We both have the same cause. To protect the people from a horrible tyrant. We are in this together. I'll always have your back in this Saffron. Because, well... I once promised a certain someone that if I ever had the power to make change in this country, that I would fight until the bitter end to achieve that goal. I already found that in the Misguided Children, but I find even more solidarity in that cause in you. I am further assured, that this is what I meant to do in this world. I am glad to have met you Saffron. Together, we'll achieve great things."

Klaren pouted at Meredith ignoring him, though his ability to somehow always get back to smiling and clapping hands set in as he pushed himself over to the trio of mages, taking note of Hoshiko who seemed to be leaving. Pokety-poke poke. It should be fun to try and stop her the next time around~

klarenfin_by_ninjacyndaquil-dadvdof.png

"Oooh, education~!" Klaren clapped his hands. He put a finger to his lips as he stood right next to Terrin, shoulder to shoulder, and looked each of the trio one by one. "Please do continue, don't mind me-no wait, right, I gotta get myself healed up first!"

And with that, Klaren whizzed out of the scene, looking for Mayanna. "Miss Mayaaaa~!" He shouted. "Oooh, wyverns~ Hi. I'm kind of bored, you know. There's nothing much to see here unlike in that prison we raided~ Oh, and I need myself healed up. My tummy aches inside where the sword hit me." Klaren pointed at his abdomen. I suppose you couldn't choose on the battlefield, right~?" The Monk said and waved as he approached Equis and Mayanna.

She still stayed silent, for a few moments longer. Finally though ,she let her staff drop back to her side, sighing "No... fair is fair. You told me some of your tale, it's only right I give more of mine now... No, nothing happened to Greyhelm, it's still standing, at least last I heard... just as it has for the past 300 years...as for the actual place I grew up though...well-"

"Miss Mayaaaa~! Oooh, wyverns~ Hi. I'm kind of bored, you know. There's nothing much to see here unlike in that prison we raided~ Oh, and I need myself healed up. My tummy aches inside where the sword hit me. I suppose you couldn't choose on the battlefield, right~?"

Oh shit she had forgotten all about the wicked monk... "Just...great..." She scowled for the briefest of moments, her disdain only visible to Eqcuis and his dragons as the Not-so-holy Man approached, and in a whispered voice to the rider. "I'll...I'll tell you more once I get rid of him."

"Oh, terribly sorry about that, brother Klaren" She said, giving a mock bow as she turned to face the wickedness that was Klaren. Her eyes and tone were nothing as such kind words should've suggested though, gaze seeming to go right through the monk and the usual benevolence nowhere to be found. "I was so preoccupied with Meredith and then our friends from across the field, I had completely forgotten about you...and your... ways."

Whatever the hell she meant by 'Ways', there wasn't much time to question it, given she had already passed the healing light of the staff over him and flashed a paper smile once his injuries closed, waving a very obvious goodbye as her feet already pointed back towards Eqcuis "Do take care from now on... It'd be an utter shame if you took things too far in battle...I'm but one Sister, afterall, with one staff..."

Having observed the little...interruption that occurred, Ecquis chuckled a bit after seeing Mayanna's expression towards Klaren's arrival. They must not be on good terms. Ill ask about it later, Ecquis thought. For now though, he had to simply see how this interaction would play out between the pair. That being said, he wasn't too pleased about the sudden interruption.

"Oh, but you're such a great nun, miss Maya! Even on the battlefield! You run around and heal us all the time! We're all very grateful, I'm sure and I got nothing to fear~" Klaren began after making sure his tummy was fine once again, before Maya could turn away. Speaking of, he didn't seem to notice her unwillingness and retained his playful vigor. He waved at Equis over Mayanna's shoulder before focusing once again on her. "I had a friend like you before~ She was a great nun as well, she never complained when she had to take care of me and my wounds, and that was a lot, hee hee. She was really nice to me, yep. I'm really glad I got to meet you too, miss Maya. Thanksies~" Klaren seemed to reminisce for a moment as he spoke, pulling out his journal and placing it on his chest wearing the same smile as always, only a bit more blisful.

"He can't take a simple hint either..." She gave one pained glance to Eqcuis before resuming the paper smile back at the monk... of course this wouldn't be so easy as just healing him and sending him off. Why should she have expected the Goddess be so merciful? "Oh, well, I'm flattered then, thank you." Did she know of your degeneracy in battle as well, you hedonist? Even worse if she was involved in enabling you...both of you sully the good work of the Goddess... "But uh... even still, do be careful, alright? You're no help to our allies if you fall while indulging in so much pleasu- Er, hostility, and there are some situations not even I can move fast enough to intervene in...be seeing you now."

"Mhm~" Klaren giggled. "I'm always careful, don't worry, I don't want to die~

Klaren waved Mayanna goodbye. "Bye, miss Maya~" She seemed to be doing something with Equis and those wyverns. No wait, wyverns~!

Faced with the realisation, instead of walking away, Klaren moved to the background, circling around Mayanna and Equis and closer to the wyverns and pulled a pen out of his robe. Opening his journal, he began scribbling something down while continually glancing over at the wyverns. He gave a thumbs up to the duo as if to tell them not to mind him before moving on with his work.

Between the pained look Mayanna had on her face and Klaren's behavior indicating that he wasn't willing to leave, Ecquis decided that he should do something about this mess. Fortunately, Klaren's arrival made Cynthia very flighty. She never did like strangers, and Klaren certainly counted as one. With that in mind, Ecquis went towards Morgan and Mayanna in an attempt to fly out of this situation...literally.

"As much as you must enjoy this Klaren, I was actually about to take a flight on Morgan. Mayanna was to be accompanying me as well." Ecquis stated, beginning to remount Morgan. "I'm afraid you won't be able to join us; Morgan can only carry one other person with me." Ecquis told the monk. In truth, this was a complete lie. Morgan could easily carry 5 or so people, but Ecquis wasn't planning on letting him know that.

"Also no, you can't ride Cynthia, she'll only let me touch her. If you tried... being bit at would be the least of your worries. Anyhow, Maya, shall we go?" Ecquis asks the lady, holding his hand out to her.

Klaren didn't react right away. He followed the wyverns with his eyes and kept scribbling down until Equis entered his visual range to calm the wyvern down. Klaren gave him a confused look, putting his hands down and halting.

klarenfin_by_ninjacyndaquil-dadvdof.png

"Oh, you're leaving?" He asked. "That's too bad... I was hoping to get a better look at the wyverns..." He said, extending his hand towards the wyvern Equis had mentioned almost instinctively. Even wonder what a wyvern's bite felt like~? Oooh, and what about all the other things she could do to him~! And a healer was nearby as well. This situation couldn't be much better...

But he stopped himself and slumped his shoulders. Maybe it was the same feeling like during the fight when Meredith ignored him. Or maybe when she ignored him again now. And Equis and Mayanna weren't gonna keep him company. He almost wanted to go find Hoshiko, but he would feel too bad if he were to disturb her time in prayer. "A-allright then. I didn't know I was interrupting..." The Monk glanced away for a moment before reforming the smile on his face that had faltered, replaced by a disappointed sad face. "Mmm, I'll go, then. Bye, miss Maya. Bye, Equee. Bye, wyverns." Klaren waved and let them leave. Now he didn't have much else to do. And his frownie mood continued...

"Hmm..."

"...Thank all that is still holy in this world" She sighed beneath his breath once the man was gone. She turned back to Eqcuis and his mount "He finally got it through his thick head that he's not wanted. I have to say, that was some quick thinking though, Eqcuis... acting like you had promised to take me flying" she couldn't help but stifle a slight giggle at that... flying, yes, right, her, up in the air? how absurd, her whole life had been spent on th-

Looking towards his allies, Luka noticed Klarenfilia, the boy watching Ecquis and Mayanna off somewhere else. Guy's just standing there on his own. Luka had caught glimpses of some of his actions on the field, very curious about the boy's... interest in pain, so to speak. As much as Luka would ignore him, something about the boy was familiar. Standing there on his own, no one wanting to talk with him. Luka gave a sigh, annoyed of his memories. Eh, fine. I'd hate for him to end up like that, too.

Luka approached the Monk, putting a smile on his face as he approached him. "Hey, Klaren." Hoping to find some reason to talk to him, Luka's eyes fell on the notebook in the Monk's hands. "What are you writing?" Better not be some weird fantasies or something.

"Well, I suppose it is a little strange at first. Being in the air is a completely different experience. But don't worry, between myself and Morgan, you should be just fine." Ecquis reassured Mayanna. Having been riding on wyverns for so long, the idea of flying was second-nature to him. For someone who has never left the ground...it must be quite the idea.

"At any rate, I was quite serious about the flight. If you don't want to I understand, but I ask that you at least consider it. Morgan would also like it quite a bit. Wouldn't you?" he asks his mount. In response, Morgan makes an excited chirp and lowers herself down enough so that Mayanna could climb on if she so chose.

"Hmm? Oh, Lou!" Klaren seemed startled by the dancer's sudden appearance. To say the least, he wasn'z used to people actually approaching him. It was usually always the other way around. The confusion only grew when the boy asked about the notebook. Klaren smiled and held it in front of himself with both hands, almost in a proud fashion, apparently accepting the company.

"This is my journal~I record all the things I like in it!"

"Weeeell...I suppose..." She felt her nerves edging her away from the idea, but on the other hand, she truly did think she could put her faith Eqcuis and Morgan not to send her tumbling hundreds of feet to her death like a bag of bloodied flesh of twisted bones...after all, the Rider had to have done this type of thing since he was a boy, right? If he had five of them...surely that required a fair bit of experience to keep each under control, right?

"alright..." she finally sighed, taking his hand and letting him pull her up. She still trembled, just a bit as she took a seat behind him "I-I trust you two..."

she looked around the polished and glossed scaled for a moment or two, wondering just what exactly to hold onto... it certainly wasn't about to be the man's waist; she was a Sister of the faith, her father had raised her better than to be that easy... and this was moving a bit fast...

Still unsure of the whole thing as she was though, how quickly that little conviction might change once they were up in the air though, was anyone's guess...
